An Adjacency Criterion for the Prime Graph of a Finite Simple Group   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
For every finite non-Abelian simple group, we give an exhaustive arithmetic criterion for adjacency of vertices in a prime graph of the group. For the prime graph of every finite simple group, this criterion is used to determine an independent set with a maximal number of vertices and an independent set with a maximal number of vertices containing 2, and to define orders on these sets; the information obtained is collected in tables. We consider several applications of these results to various problems in finite group theory, in particular, to the recognition-by-spectra problem for finite groups. We focus on derangement characters of GL(n,q) which depend solely on the dimension of the space of fixed vectors. This family includes Thoma characters which become asymptotically irreducible as n→∞. We find explicit decomposition of Thoma characters into irreducibles, construct further derangement characters and seek for extremes in the family derangement characters. Presented by A. In an article of 2003, Külshammer, Olsson, and Robinson defined ?-blocks for the symmetric groups, where ? > 1 is an arbitrary integer, and proved that they satisfy an analogue of the Nakayama Conjecture. Inspired by this work and the definitions of generalized blocks and sections given by the authors, we give in this article a definition of d-sections in the finite general linear group, and construct d-blocks of unipotent characters, where d ≥ 1 is an arbitrary integer. We prove that they satisfy one direction of an analogue of the Nakayama Conjecture, and, in some cases, prove the other direction. We also prove that they satisfy an analogue of Brauer's Second Main Theorem.  相似文献

It is shown that the condition of nonadjacency of 2 and at least one odd prime in the Gruenberg-Kegel graph of a finite group G under some natural additional conditions suffices to describe the structure of G; in particular, to prove that G has a unique nonabelian composition factor. In the ordinary character table of a finite group G, the values of the real valued irreducible characters on the real conjugacy classes form a sub-table which is square by Brauer's permutation lemma. We call this table the real part of the character table of G. Unlike the ordinary character table, viewed as a square matrix the real part of the character table is often singular. Let G be a finite group and k an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. Let F U be the Rickard idempotent k G-module corresponding to the set U of subvarieties of the cohomology variety V G which are not irreducible components. We show that F U is a finite sum of generic modules corresponding to the irreducible components of V G . In this context, a generic module is an indecomposable module of infinite length over k G but finite length as a module over its endomorphism ring.  相似文献

Let k be a commutative ring of coefficients and G be a finite group. Does there exist a flat k G-module which is projective as a k-module but not as a k G-module? We relate this question to the question of existence of a k-module which is flat and periodic but not projective. Let H be an extension of a finite group Q by a finite group G. Inspired by the results of duality theorems for tale gerbes on orbifolds, the authors describe the number of conjugacy classes of H that map to the same conjugacy class of Q. In the representation theory of symmetric groups, for each partition of a natural number n, the partition h() of n is defined so as to obtain a certain set of zeros in the table of characters for Sn. Namely, h() is the greatest (under the lexicographic ordering ) partition among P(n) such that (g) 0.
