This work is aimed at studying the noise caused by the transformers found in electrical substations located in calm areas in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Although the level itself reaching the nearby buildings is not high if compared to other noise sources commonly found in a large city, they produce an annoying noise due to its low frequency tonal components. Two substations and their surroundings have been analyzed and acoustically mapped. The results have shown that some houses receive up to 35 dB(A) near one of the substations, which may led to some discomfort. It has also been noticed that a good planning of a substation, mainly of the firewalls, may help putting the houses under acoustical shadows.  相似文献

The railroads that pass through the city of Curitiba played an important role in Brazil’s economic development. When the rail tracks were laid down, their route was consistent with the city’s layout, but today they are incompatible with its occupation and urban density. Due to its considerable presence in the urban grid, the railway track causes many problems to the population living in its proximities, such as noise pollution. The purpose of this study was therefore to assess the noise levels generated by a railway that passes through an urban area of a large city and to evaluate possible steps that could be adopted to mitigate the noise levels. To this end, three possible alternatives were simulated to control the noise pollution generated by railway traffic: (1) exclusion of the train horn, (2) inclusion of acoustic barriers, and (3) removal of the railway tracks from the urban perimeter. Noise levels were assessed in the surroundings of two major hospitals and a large educational institution. Acoustic mapping revealed that the simulated noise mitigation measures led to a reduction of 2–12 dB(A) in noise levels reaching the facades of the hospitals and school.  相似文献

The adequacy of a model for the sound level close to a road is investigated by comparing resulting predictions for the sound level over a building façade with measurements. The road model involves the road geometry (the number and positions of traffic lanes), the traffic structure (vehicle flow rates and their average speeds in each lane) and equivalent omnidirectional point sources representing the vehicles. It is found that the assumed road traffic noise source model is adequate only for predicting levels over the higher part of the façade. However the investigation has allowed definition of what improvements are needed in the road source modelling to enable adequate predictions over the whole of the building façade.  相似文献

The CNOSSOS-EU method is recommended in Europe for environmental noise prediction. In regards to road traffic, it includes vehicle noise emission models implicitly referring to internal combustion vehicles. The development of electrically driven vehicles calls for the future consideration of these vehicles in prediction models. On the basis of experimental data, the study reported in this paper proposes a noise emission model for extending CNOSSOS-EU to light electric vehicles. Correction terms to be applied to the propulsion noise component are determined. Investigations on a sample of tyres with good rolling resistance performance, which is a main tyre selection criterion on these vehicles, indicated that no correction is required for the rolling noise component. Differences between the noise emission from conventional vehicles and electric vehicles are discussed for several road surfaces. Owing to the limited vehicle sample as well as transitional statements, this new model for electric vehicles running at constant speed over 20 km/h should be considered as a first step towards the definition of this vehicle technology in CNOSSOS-EU.  相似文献

This paper investigates the relevance of different interpolation techniques to improve the spatial resolution of urban noise maps, in complement to measurements achieved at fixed stations. Interpolation techniques based on mobile measurements are compared to usual spatial interpolations techniques, namely Inverse Distance Weighting and Kriging. The analyses rely on a measurement campaign, which consisted of nearly 8 h of geo-referenced mobile noise measurements performed at random moments of the day, conducted simultaneously with continuous measurements collected at five fixed stations located on the inner city of Gent, Belgium.Firstly, a procedure is proposed to build a noise map with a high spatial resolution (one point every 5 m). The procedure relies on both mobile and fixed measurements: the mobile measurements are used to capture spatial variations on the network, and the measurements at fixed stations are used to capture the temporal variations. The map produced is then used as reference to compare the interpolation techniques based on a significantly more sparse measurement set.The spatial interpolation techniques tested fail in predicting accurately the noise level variations within streets. The explanation given is that they do not offer a sufficient covering of the network, and assume spatial variations which are not coherent with traffic dynamics or street configurations. Inversely, mobile measurements cover the entire network. As a result, they allow a more accurate prediction of noise levels even if very short samples are used, provided that the procedure used to estimate noise levels includes a spatial aggregation, which aims at smoothing the high spatial variations inevitable with short samples. Moreover, mobile measurements can advantageously be used to optimize, through a Genetic Algorithm, the locations where to install fixed stations, promising an efficient noise monitoring at reduced operational costs.  相似文献

Electric and Hybrid Electric vehicles (EV and HEV) seem to be the future of transport in smart cities and the key for the total reduction of noise disturbance and pollution in urban areas. However, several problems have to be solved to guarantee the safety of these types of vehicle. Up to now, the use of HEV has shown the dangers of a “quiet” transport system in urban environments; in fact, it has been estimated that an HEV is twice as likely to be involved in a pedestrian crash as would be an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle in the same situation. With the aim of improving their safety, different kinds of warning sounds are being designed to increase the detectability of EV and HEV without themselves becoming new annoying sound sources. The sound directivity, frequency of emission and intensity of warning sound systems will guarantee their efficiency and limited noise impact.  相似文献

The dominating influence of road traffic on the noise climate of the world's cities is now established and attempts to reduce the problem follow two main lines: The first involves ameliorating the effects of traffic stream noise; the second an attack on the noise levels of individual vehicles. The great expense involved in developing and building quieter vehicles justifies expending considerable effort in establishing the relative noise contribution of the vehicle types found in typical urban traffic mixtures. This paper describes the development of a field method for examining the effects of heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses on the noise profile of the traffic stream. The essential feature of the method involves synchronisation of a recorded voice commentary with the traffic noise. The graphical record of this noise can then be annotated to show what type of vehicles cause the peaks in the overall noise profile.  相似文献

A model for motorway traffic noise has been obtained from measurements along the the Bangkok-Chonburi motorway. The model’s parameters include traffic volume and combination, the average spot speed of each type of vehicle and the physical conditions of the motorway in terms of right-of-way width, number of lanes, lane width, shoulder width, and median width for both of the main carriageways and frontage roads. The noise level that is generated by each type of vehicle has been analyzed according to the propagation in the direction perpendicular to the center line of motorway’s carriageway. The total traffic noise is then analyzed from traffic volume of all vehicle types on both sides of carriageways and frontage roads. The basic noise levels used in the motorway traffic noise model are modified according to the effective ground effect along the propagation path. The final result of this study is that a motorway traffic noise model based on the perpendicular propagation analysis technique performs well in a statistical goodness-of-fit test against the field data, and therefore, can be used effectively in traffic noise prediction for related or similar motorway projects.  相似文献

Prediction of noise levels at shielded positions in urban areas is more difficult than on exposed positions. At shielded positions, the predictions method must include multiple reflections, and many sources must be taken into account. Using numerical methods that solve the wave equation is possible, but very computationally heavy. Here two methods have been used, a very simplified ray model and a statistical model. The results show that concentrating the traffic and introducing absorption onto building façades will give lower levels at shielded positions.  相似文献

Due to the rapid urban development and massive population increase in many eastern cities, the difference in urban density and morphology between typical western and eastern cities is becoming significant. This consequently makes the noise distribution in the eastern cities rather different from typical low density European cities. In this research, two representative cities with different urban densities, Greater Manchester in the UK and Wuhan in China, were selected, which have low and high average urban density respectively, and also have considerable differences in building form and traffic pattern. In the mean time, these two cities have similar urban scale and traffic amount. In each city, based on the urban morphological analyses considering urban land-use, building and road density, and noise source distribution, a number of typical urban areas, 500 * 500 m2 each, were sampled. A noise-mapping software package was then used to generate generic noise maps, based on existing digital vector maps for terrain and building, and traffic data obtained by on-site measurements. The comparison results show that the average and minimum noise level in Greater Manchester samples is generally higher than that in Wuhan samples, while the maximum noise level in Wuhan samples is mostly higher. By developing a Matlab program, correlations have been analysed between noise distributions and the urban characteristics relating to urban density, such as the road and building coverage ratio. Overall, comparisons between these two typical cities have shown significant effects of urban morphology on the traffic noise distribution.  相似文献

We consider periodic and chaotic dynamics of discrete nonlinear maps in the presence of dynamical noise. We show that dynamical noise corrupting dynamics of a nonlinear map may be considered as a measurement “pseudonoise” with the distribution determined by the Jacobian of the map. The formula for the distribution of the measurement “pseudonoise” for one-dimensional quadratic maps has also been obtained in an explicit form. We expect that our results apply to an arbitrary distribution of low-level dynamical noise and hope that these results could help to find a universal method of discriminating dynamical from measurement noise.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to present a statistical model which can predict the noise level of road-traffic in urban area. A spatial statistical model which can take into account spatial dependency on geographically neighboring areas is constructed from a noise map of a city in South Korea. A system of 250 m × 250 m grid cells is placed on the city of Cheongju, South Korea, and the noise level and urban form indicators are averaged over each cell. The population-weighted mean of the noise level is subsequently regressed on the average urban form by adopting the spatial autoregressive model (SAR) and the spatial error model (SEM), as well as an ordinary least squares (OLS) model. Direct and indirect impacts are analyzed for a valid interpretation of the spatial statistical models. Factors such as GSI, FSI, traffic volume, traffic speed, road area density, and the fraction of industrial area turn out to have significant impacts on the noise level.  相似文献

Road traffic noise pollution has been recognized as a serious issue which affects human health as well as affects urban regions. Noise maps are very beneficial to identify the impact of noise pollution. A noise mapping study performed to study the propagation of noise in tier-II city along with field measurements. The noise maps are developed using a computer simulation model (SoundPLAN essential 4.0 software). The noise prediction models like U.K’s CoRTN, Germany’s RLS-90, and their modified versions, which can be used for homogenous road traffic conditions, cannot be successfully applied in heterogeneous road traffic conditions of India. In developing country like India, road traffic noise pollution depends on the composition of heterogeneous traffic volume, variance in road geometrical, honking conditions, un-authorized parking, and varying density of the building on either side of the road. These traffic compositions contain vehicles, which have different sizes, speeds variations, a different dimension of vehicles. Because of fluctuating speeds, lack of lane disciplines, and un-authorized parking on main road lanes, honking events becomes inevitable, which changes and affects the urban soundscape of nations like India. Analysis of noise maps showed that horn honking due to un-authorized parked vehicles contributed an additional increase up to 11 dB (A) noise, which is quite significant.  相似文献

There currently exist a number of commercial tools which may be used to develop strategic noise maps in an effort to satisfy the requirements of EU Directive 2002/49/EC. However, these tools may not be readily available to local authorities with limited resources. This paper investigates the possibility of developing a simplified alternative to using detailed commercial software for the creation of strategic noise maps. In-house noise prediction software was used to calculate a noise map of Dublin city centre and results were compared to those of commercial standard software. The in-house software tool was then used to assess the impact of various source-dependent action plans in a time-efficient and practical manner. Measurements were also carried out at various locations throughout the test area, which were then used to investigate the accuracy of predictions. Finally, a hybrid approach to developing a strategic noise map by integrating measurements taken on-site with predictions was developed. This approach was applied to the test area and yielded a refined noise map that presented noise levels which were more reflective of the measured levels recorded on-site. This demonstrated that the method could be used to determine noise levels that would be representative of the acoustic environment experienced on-site.  相似文献

Noise pollution due to road traffic is a major global concern because of its negative impact on the quality of life in communities everywhere. In Vietnam, traffic noise has become an increasingly noticeable and serious problem in large cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. To gain more insight into the characteristics of this noise, intensive noise measurements were conducted in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in September 2005 and September 2007, respectively. A comprehensive dataset of noise was obtained that included 24-h noise measurements as well as short-term noise recordings. The volume of traffic was also quantified by reproducing video camera recordings. Noise datasets from both cities were then compared with a dataset of Japanese traffic noise obtained in Kumamoto. The results showed that the traffic noise in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was characterized by relatively high noise exposure levels due to the large number of motorbikes and frequent horn sounds. The sound of horns contributed a definite impact of 0-4 dB on noise exposure in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where noise levels decreased with the absence of horn sounds. Our results also showed differences in the characteristic traffic noise of Vietnam and Japan.  相似文献

BackgroundBoth the WHO and the EC recommend the use of Lnight as the primary indicator for sleep disturbance. Still, a key question for noise policy is whether the prediction of sleep quality could be improved by taking the number of events into account in addition to Lnight.ObjectivesThe current paper investigates the association between sleep quality and the number of aircraft noise events. The first aim of this study was to investigate whether, for the purpose of predicting sleep quality measured by motility, the nummer of events is adequately represented in Lnight for the purpose of predicting sleep quality measured by motility. The second aim was to investigate whether the number of events at a given Lnight has an additional predictive value. In addition, it was explored whether the total number of events should be taken into account for the production of sleep quality, or only the number of events exceeding a certain sound pressure level.MethodsThis study is based on data of a field study among 418 people living within a range of 20 km from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The data from this study are well suited for this purpose, since for every subject both the number and the exposure level of events are available. Sleep quality was measured by motility, derived from actimeters worn on the wrist, and by self-reported sleep quality scored on a 11-point scale. Mixed linear regression models were built in a stepwise manner to predict sleep quality during a sleep period time.ResultsThe results show that, given a certain equivalent noise level, additional information on the overall number of events does not improve the prediction of sleep quality. However, the number of events above LAmax of 60 dB was related to an increase in mean motility, indicating lower sleep quality. No effect of number of events was found on self-reported sleep quality.ConclusionsThis study suggests that the number of events is more or less adequately represented in Lnight and only the number of high noise level events may have additional effects on sleep quality as measured by motility. This may be viewed as an indication that, in addition to Lnight, the number of events with a relatively high LAmax could be used as a basis for protection against noise-induced sleep disturbance.  相似文献

The scaling law for aerodynamic dipole type of sound from constrictions in low speed flow ducts by Nelson and Morfey is revisited. A summary of earlier published results using this scaling law is presented together with some new data. Based on this, an effort to find a general scaling law for the sound power for components with both distinct and non-distinct flow separation points are made. Special care is taken to apply the same scaling to all data based on the pressure drop. Results from both rectangular and circular ducts, duct flow velocities from 2 to 120 m/s and sound power measurements made both in ducts and in reverberation chambers are presented. The computed sound power represents the downstream source output in a reflection free duct. In particular for the low frequency plane wave range strong reflections from e.g. openings can affect the sound power output. This is handled by reformulating the Nelson and Morfey model in the form of an active acoustic 2-port. The pressure loss information needed for the semi-empirical scaling law can be gained from CFD simulations. A method using Reynold Average Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations is presented, where the required mesh quality is evaluated and estimation of the dipole source strength via the use of the pressure drop is compared to using the turbulent kinetic energy.  相似文献

A mass web-based experiment has been carried out to explore people’s perception of horrible sounds. The advantage of a web-based methodology is that it enables hundreds of thousands of judgements to be obtained over a diverse population. As part of the project, the effect of what people saw on the screen on how they rated the sounds was examined. The sounds were auditioned with images that were either associated or unassociated with the sounds. It was found that images often affected how horrible the sound was perceived to be. For example, the image of finger nails on a blackboard made the associated sound more awful. However, in the case of disgusting sounds, such as the sound of someone eating, the images used had no significant effect on voting behaviour. The colour of the website was also varied. The hue of the website was found to be a significant factor, with a red website making the sounds less horrible than a blue/green website. The brightness and saturation of the website also altered people’s perceptions, with the brighter, more saturated website making the most awful sounds, such as the sound of someone vomiting, less horrible.  相似文献
