The efficiency of activated carbons prepared from corncob, to remove asphaltenes from toluene modeled solutions, has been studied in this work. The activating agent effect over carbonaceous solid preparation , and also temperature effect on the asphaltenes adsorption on the prepared activated carbons, was studied. The asphaltene adsorption isotherms were determined, and the experimental data were analyzed applying the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich–Peterson, Toth and Radke–Prausnitz and Sips models. Redlich–Peterson model described the asphaltenes isotherm on the activated carbons better. The asphaltenes adsorption capacities at 25° for activated carbons were: 1305 mg g?1, 1654 mg g?1 and 559.1 mg g?1 for GACKOH, GACKP and GACH3PO4, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH°, and ΔS° were also evaluated from the adsorption isotherms in asphaltene solutions from toluene solutions, and it was found that the adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. Kinetic parameters, reaction rate constant and equilibrium adsorption capacities were evaluated and correlated for each kinetic model. The results show that asphaltene adsorption is described by pseudo-second-order kinetics, suggesting that the adsorption process is chemisorption. The adsorption calorimetry was used to analyze the type of interaction between the asphaltenes and the activated carbons prepared in this work, and their values were compared with the enthalpic values obtained from the Clausius–Clapeyron equation.

The so‐called colloidal template synthesis has been applied to the preparation of surface‐engineered nanoadsorbents. Colloidal microporous organic network nanotemplates (C‐MONs), which showed a high surface area (611 m2 g?1) and enhanced microporosity, were prepared through the networking of organic building blocks in the presence of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). Owing to entrapment of the PVP in networks, the C‐MONs showed good colloidal dispersion in EtOH. MoS2 precursors were incorporated into the C‐MONs and heat treatment afforded core–shell‐type C@MoS2 nanoparticles with a diameter of 80 nm, a negative zeta potential (?39.5 mV), a high surface area (508 m2 g?1), and excellent adsorption performance towards cationic dyes (qmax=343.6 and 421.9 mg g?1 for methylene blue and rhodamine B, respectively).  相似文献

The change in the thermodynamic properties of triclosan adsorption on three activated carbons with the different surface chemistry was studied through immersion calorimetry and equilibrium data; the amount adsorbed of triclosan (Q) during calorimetry was determined and correlated with the energy associated with adsorbate–adsorbent interactions in the adsorption process. It was noted that triclosan adsorption capacity decreases with an increase in oxygenated surface groups. For an activated carbon oxidized with HNO3 (OxAC), the amount adsorbed was 8.50?×?10?3 mmol g?1, for a activated carbon without modification (GAC) Q?=?10.3?×?10?3 mmol g?1 and for a activated carbon heated at 1073 K (RAC1073) Q?=?11.4?×?10?3 mmol g?1. The adsorbed amounts were determined by adjusting the isotherms to the Sips model. For the activated carbon RAC1073, the immersion enthalpy (ΔHimm) was greater than those of the other two activated carbons due to the formation of interactions with the solvent (ΔHimmOxAC?=?? 27.3 J g?1?<?ΔHimmGAC?=?? 40.0 J g?1?<?ΔHimm RAC1073?=???60.7 J g?1). The changes in the interaction enthalpy and Gibbs energy are associated with adsorbate–adsorbent interactions and side interactions such as the adsorbate–adsorbate and adsorbate–solvent interactions.

The immersion enthalpies in benzene, cyclohexane, water, and phenol aqueous solution with a concentration of 100 mg L?1 are determined for eight activated carbons obtained from peach seeds (Prunus persica) by thermal activation with CO2 at different temperatures and times of activation. The results obtained for the immersion enthalpy show values between ?4.0 and ?63.9 J g?1 for benzene, ?3.0 and ?47.9 J g?1 for cyclohexane, ?10.1 and ?43.6 J g?1 for water, and ?11.1 and ?45.8 J g?1 for phenol solution. From nitrogen adsorption isotherms, the surface area, micropore volume, and average pore diameter of the activated carbons were obtained. These parameters are related with the immersion enthalpies, and the obtained trends are directly proportional with two first parameters in the nonpolar solvents, which is a behavior of microporous activated carbons with hydrophobic character. Phenol adsorption from aqueous solution on activated carbons is proportional to their surface area and their immersion enthalpy in the solution.  相似文献

Four nanoporous carbons obtained from different polymers: polypyrrole, polyvinylidene fluoride, sulfonated styrene–divinylbenzene resin, and phenol–formaldehyde resin, were investigated as potential adsorbents for carbon dioxide. CO2 adsorption isotherms measured at eight temperatures between 0 and 60 °C were used to study adsorption properties of these polymer-derived carbons, especially CO2 uptakes at ambient pressure and different temperatures, working capacity, and isosteric heat of adsorption. The specific surface areas and the volumes of micropores and ultramicropores estimated for these materials by using the density functional theory-based software for pore size analysis ranged from 840 to 1990 m2 g?1, from 0.22 to 1.47 cm3 g?1, and from 0.18 to 0.64 cm3 g?1, respectively. The observed differences in the nanoporosity of these carbons had a pronounced effect on the CO2 adsorption properties. The highest CO2 uptakes, 6.92 mmol g?1 (0 °C, 1 atm) and 1.89 mmol g?1 (60 °C, 1 atm), were obtained for the polypyrrole-derived activated carbon prepared through a single carbonization-KOH activation step. The working capacity for this adsorbent was estimated to be 3.70 mmol g?1. Depending on the adsorbent, the CO2 isosteric heats of adsorption varied from 32.9 to 16.3 kJ mol?1 in 0–2.5 mmol g?1 range. Overall, the carbons studied showed well-developed microporosity and exceptional CO2 adsorption, which make them viable candidates for CO2 capture, and for other adsorption and environmental-related applications.  相似文献

The cost-effective activated carbons derived from waste Camellia oleifera shell (COS) by ZnCl2 activation method are investigated as the active electrode material in electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) for the first time. The activation temperature and ZnCl2/COS impregnation ratio are two key factors affecting the surface area and pore structure of the prepared activated carbons, which accordingly affect their capacitive performances. Electrochemical investigations indicate that the activated carbon (AC-3-600) obtained at the activation temperature of 600 °C and impregnation ratio of 3 shows the maximum specific capacitance of 374 and 266 F?g?1 in 1 mol L?1 H2SO4 and 6 mol L?1 KOH electrolytes at 0.2 A g?1, respectively. The high capacitance of the AC-3-600 is attributed to its high surface area (1,935 m2 g?1), high total pore volume (1.02 cm3 g?1), and especially the large percentage of micropores (735 m2 g?1). Meanwhile, the activated carbon presents good cycle stability in both acid and alkaline electrolytes during 5,000 cycles at a fair current density of 4 A g?1. So, we had reasons to believe that the activated carbons from waste COS by ZnCl2 activation might be one of the innovative carbon electrode materials for EDLCs application.  相似文献

In this article, a serial of bi‐functionalized hollow polymer particles (BF‐HPPs), containing both carboxylate and different amide/amine groups [HPP‐NH2, HPP‐ethylenediamine (EDA), and HPP‐diethylenetriamine (DETA)], were specially designed and synthesized to investigate the effect of neighboring amino groups on their adsorption/desorption behavior. Due to the high density of carboxylate groups, these BF‐HPPs can serve as efficient adsorbents for selective removal of positively charged methylene blue (b‐MB). With increasing chain length of the neighboring amino groups, the maximum adsorption capacities (qmax) at pH 7 decrease dramatically from 606.1 mg g?1 for HPP‐NH2, to 404.9 mg g?1 for HPP‐EDA, and 332.2 mg g?1 for HPP‐DETA, due to increasing steric hindrance. Significantly, the equilibrium adsorption can be achieved within 15 min for HPP‐EDA and HPP‐DETA, while it takes more than 720 min for HPP‐NH2. Moreover, the qmax of HPP‐DETA exhibits remarkable pH‐sensitive property, which decreases sharply to 32.7 mg g?1 at pH 3 due to strong electrostatic repulsion between positively charged ammonium groups and b‐MB molecules. Accordingly, the desorption efficiency of HPP‐DETA reached up to 94% after one desorption step, which is much higher than that of HPP‐EDA (78%) and HPP‐NH2 (60%). The absorbed b‐MB can be facilely desorbed and the adsorption capacity of the regenerated HPP‐DETA keeps above 95% after five consecutive adsorption–desorption cycles. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mg-, Al and Mg-, Cu-, Al-layered double hydroxides well-known synthetic hydrotalcite-like sorbents, were used for the first time as carriers for indicators in the sorption catalytic determination of copper(II) and L-α-alanine. Mg-, Al and Mg-, Cu-, Al-layered double hydroxides were synthesized by coprecipitation and characterized using infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The adsorption of 0.50?mg?L?1 copper(II) solution by Mg-, Al-layered double hydroxides followed a pseudo-second-order model with an equilibrium sorption capacity of 24.2?×?10?3?mg?g?1 (3.8?×?10?4?mmol g?1) and a reaction rate constant of 4.2?g mg?1?min?1. Mg-, Al-layered double hydroxide tablets were prepared and used for sorption concentration and subsequent sensitive and selective sorption catalytic determination of 5.5?×?10?3 to 1.0?mg?L?1 copper(II) at the sorbent phase. The method was used for the analysis of natural water. A method was developed for the determination of α-alanine in Mg-, Cu-, Al-layered double hydroxide tablets with a limit of detection of 4.0?×?10?3 mol?L?1. In addition, thin layers of Mg-, Cu-, Al-layered double hydroxide were used to separate α-alanine and determine α-amino acids by thin-layer chromatography.  相似文献

Lignocellulosic materials are good and cheap precursors for the production of activated carbon. In this study, activated carbons were prepared from the lignin at different temperatures (200 to 500°C) by ZnCl2. The effects influencing the surface area of the resulting activated carbon are activation temperature, activation time and impregnation ratio. The optimum condition, are found an impregnation ratio of 2, an activation temperature of 450°C, and an activation time of 2 h. The results showed that the surface area and micropores volume of activated carbon at the experimental conditions are achieved to 587 and 0.23 cm3 g?1, respectively. The adsorption behavior of methyl orange dye from aqueous solution onto activated lignin was investigated as a function of equilibrium time, pH and concentration. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms. A maximum adsorption capacity of 300 mg g?1 of methyl orange by activated carbon was achieved.  相似文献

Two series of activated carbon have been prepared by chemical activation of Amygdalus Scoparia shell with phosphoric acid or zinc chloride for the removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions. Several methods were employed to characterize the active carbon produced. The surface area was calculated using the standard Brunauer-Emmet-Teller method. The microstructures of the resultant activated carbon were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The chemical composition of the surface resultant activated carbon was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In the batch tests, the effect of pH, initial concentration, and contact time on the adsorption were studied. The data were fitted with Langmuir and Freundlich equations to describe the equilibrium isotherms. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) on the resultant activated carbon was 36.63 mg g−1 with H3PO4 and 28.74 mg g−1 with ZnCl2. To regenerate the spent adsorbents, desorption experiments were performed using 0.25 mol L−1 HCl. Here we propose that the activated carbon produced from Amygdalus Scoparia shell is an alternative low-cost adsorbent for Pb(II) adsorption.  相似文献

The adsorption of activated carbon prepared from Scenedesmus obliquus (algae) was evaluated through adsorption of Astrazon red. The adsorption efficiency of activated carbon was determined based on the specific surface area and pore size distribution. These results were compared with the results obtained with untreated algae. Approximately a 3-fold increase in the percentage of dye removal was observed for activated carbon compared to the untreated material. The primary reason for this observation may be the increase in specific surface area and total pore volume by chemical activation from 0.0136 to 423.7001?m2?g?1 and from 0.0012 to 0.1643?cm3?g?1, respectively. A pseudo-second-order model was fit with the kinetic data and the results indicate chemical adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity of activated carbon was 181.82?mg?g?1 at 25°C according to Langmuir isotherm model.  相似文献

Two commercial activated carbons with differences in their superficial chemistry, one granular and the other pelletised, were modified for use in phenol and 2,4-dinitrophenol adsorption. In this paper, changes to the activated carbon surface will be evaluated from their immersion calorimetry in water and benzene, and they will then be compared with Area BET, chemical parameters, micropore size distributions and hydrophobicity factors of the modified activated carbons. The activated carbons were modified using 60 % solutions of phosphoric acid (H3PO4), nitric acid (HNO3), zinc chloride (ZnCl2) and potassium hydroxide (KOH); the activated carbon/solution ratio was 1:3 and impregnation was conducted 291 K for a period of 72 h before samples were washed until a constant pH was obtained. Water immersion calorimetry showed that the best results were obtained from activated carbons modified with nitric acid, which increased from ?10.6 to ?29.8 J g?1 for modified granular activated carbon, and ?30.9 to ?129.3 J g?1 for pelletised activated carbon. Additionally, they showed the best results in phenol and 2.4-dititrophenol adsorption. Those results indicate that impregnation with nitric acid under the employed conditions could generate a greater presence of oxygenated groups on their surface, which favours hydrogen bond formation and the increased adsorption of polar compounds. It should also be noted that immersion enthalpy in benzene for modified activated carbon with nitric acid is the method with the lowest value, which is consistent with the increased presence of polar groups on its surface. Regarding hydrophobicity factors, it was observed that granular carbons modified with nitric acid and potassium hydroxide have the lowest ratios, indicating greater interaction with water.  相似文献

Magnetic ion-imprinted polymer nanospheres, which have core–shell structures, have been synthesized as an adsorbent for extraction of Pb2+ from real samples prior to its flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination. The prepared adsorbent has been characterized using XRD, VSM, TEM, and FTIR measurements. The optimization results revealed that the adsorbent exhibited high selectivity toward Pb2+ over other cations such as Cu2+ and Zn2+. In addition, the removal efficiency of synthesized adsorbent was considerable (qm?=?171.42?mg g?1), its calibration curve was linear (0.5?850.0?ng mL?1), and detection limit was 0.01?ng mL?1. These results suggested that the prepared nanoadsorbent is an ideal candidate for solid-phase extraction of Pb2+ ions.  相似文献

Activated carbons from watermelon shell (GACW) and walnut shell (GACN) were synthesized through chemical activation with phosphoric acid 40 % w/w, as an alternative low-cost adsorbent for the removal of lead(II) and zinc(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The yield of production was 85 and 80 % for GACW and GACN respectively. To compare the differences and similarities between the two activated carbons the following tests were performed: surface and pore width with SEM, nitrogen adsorption isotherms at ?196 °C (77 K), IR spectroscopy, TGA, point of zero charge (PZC) and Boehm titration. The GACN has 10 % more surface area (789 m2 g?1 for GACN and 710 m2 g?1 for GACW) and 13 % more pore volume than GACW. Also, GACN has a better resistance to high temperatures than GACW (the loss of mass at 900 °C was 20 % for GACN, while for GACW was 31 %). The effect of the initial concentration of lead(II) and zinc(II) ions on the adsorption process was studied in a batch process mode. To quantify the adsorption of lead and zinc adsorption isotherms of both metals in aqueous solution were performed for each carbon using analytic technique of atomic absorption. The adsorption isotherm data were better fitted by Langmuir model. Experimental results suggests that one gram of GACW adsorbs more milligrams of lead(II) and zinc(II) than one gram of GACN; it is suggest that the pore distribution is a significant variable in the adsorption process because GACW present mesopores and micropores, while GACN has only micropores. Also, the surface chemistry is an important variable in the adsorption process because GACW presents a lower pHPZC than GACN (3.05 for GACW and 4.5 for GACN) and the solution’s pH of each metal was adjusted in 4.5, for that it could be suggested that the electrostatic interactions were increased between the ion and the carbon surface.  相似文献

A series of activated carbons with high mesoporous ratio were prepared by KOH reactivation based on activated carbon as the precursor. As the KOH/AC mass ratio was increased to 4:1, the mesoporous ratio increases from 60% to 76%, and the average pore size from 2.23 to 3.14?nm. Moreover, the specific capacitance for the activated carbon in ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylmidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([EMIm]BF4) can reach the maximum value of 189?F?g?1 (8.0???F?cm?2). In addition, the decrease of specific capacitance for activated carbons by KOH reactivation with current density increase shows two regimes, suggesting that activated carbons with high mesoporous ratio are much fit for charge?Cdischarge at larger current density.  相似文献

Hazelnut husk (HH), an agricultural waste, was converted to carbonaceous material by chemical activation using potassium acetate. The produced activated carbon (KAHHAC) was characterized by FTIR, SEM, N2 adsorption–desorption experiments, CHN elemental analysis, and determination of moisture, ash, and point of zero charge. KAHHAC was used for the batch adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. Optimum pH and contact time were found to be 5.0 and 240 minutes, respectively. The adsorption equilibrium data were described well by the Langmuir equation providing 105.3?mg?g?1 Cu(II) adsorption capacity. The pseudo-second-order model successfully described the kinetic of Cu(II) adsorption by KAHHAC. The adsorbed Cu(II) onto KAHHAC was completely desorbed by 0.5?M nitric acid. In conclusion, HH activated carbon (AC) produced by the potassium acetate activation method is a very useful and efficient sorbent material for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solution.  相似文献

The use of enterosorbents—materials which can be administered orally and eliminate toxic substances from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) by sorption—offers an attractive complementary protection of humans against acute and chronic poisoning. In this study, we report the results of developing a microgranulated binary biomedical preparation for oral use. It was designed with a core-shell structure based on pectin with low degree of esterification as the core, and nanoporous activated carbon produced from rice husk, AC-RH, as the shell, designated as AC-RH@pectin. The adsorption properties of the synthesized materials were studied in aqueous solutions for the removal of lead (II) nitrate as a representative of toxic polyvalent metals and sodium diclofenac as an example of a medicinal drug. The composite enterosorbent demonstrated high adsorption capacity for both adsorbates studied. Adsorption kinetics of lead and diclofenac adsorption by AC-RH, pectin, and AC-RH@pectin, fitted well a pseudo-second-order model. According to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, the best fitted isotherm model, the maximum adsorption capacity, qmax, of AC-RH@pectin for diclofenac and for lead (II) was 130.9 mg/g and 227.8 mg/g, respectively. Although qmax of AC-RH for diclofenac, 537.6 mg/g, and qmax of pectin for lead (II), 245.7 mg/g, were higher, the maximum adsorption capacity of AC-RH for lead (II), 52.7 mg/g, was much lower than that of the composite AC-RH@pectin and the adsorption capacity of pectin for diclofenac was negligible. Therefore, the composite material AC-RH@pectin demonstrated substantial efficiency of removing both species which potentially defines it as a more universal enterosorbent suitable for treating poisoning caused by substances of different chemical nature.  相似文献

The current study discusses application of the lanthanum ions (La3+) as an activating agent incorporated /immobilized into coconut shell–based granular activated carbon (GAC) for porosity development; subsequently, the carbon material is used for the adsorption of phenol from aqueous solutions. The new carbons were characterized using FTIR, XRD, CHNO, burn off, and carbon yield. The surface functional groups were determined by Boehm titration. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of the carbons is 953 m2 g−1 (GACLa1073), 997 m2 g−1 (GAC383), and 973 m2 g−1 (GACO383). Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin–Radushkevich, and John–Sivanandan Achari (J-SA) isotherm models on the equilibrium isotherm data were examined for the new carbon-phenol system. It is found that the Langmuir isotherm fits better with a monolayer adsorption capacity, highest for GACLa1073 (387.59 mg g−1) followed by GAC383 (303.03 mg g−1) and GACO383 (197.62 mg g−1). Kinetic studies reveal that the adsorption system follows the pseudo–second-order kinetic model. Isotherm analysis by the phase change method of John-Sivanandan Achari (J-SA) isotherm gives a better insight into adsorption phenomena, which is accompanied by regeneration studies of carbon with >75% for GACLa1073 after three cycles.  相似文献

A simple separation/pre-concentration method was developed for extraction of Pd(II) in various environmental samples, based on its adsorption of 4–phenyl–5–{[(4–phenyl–5–pyridin–4–yl–4H–1,2,4–triazole–3–yl)thio]methyl}–4H–1,2,4–triazole–3–thyol (PPTTMET) complex on Amberlite XAD–2010 resin in a mini column. The ligand has high affinity for Pd(II) among many other metals that are taken into consideration. The flame atomic absorption spectrometry is employed to determine the concentration of Pd(II). The optimum working conditions which were determined are as follows: 0.05?mol?L?1 HNO3 as working medium, 1.0?mol?L?1 HCI in acetone as elution solvent, 0.75?mg of PPTTMET amount and 750?mL of sample volume. The system was independent from the flow rates between 3.1 and 23.1?mL?min?1. The Pd(II) adsorption capacity of Amberlite XAD–2010 resin was found to be 12.8?mg?g?1 and the enrichment factor was calculated as 375. The method was successfully applied for the determination of Pd(II) in motorway dust samples, anodic sludge, gold ore, industrial electronic waste materials and various water samples.  相似文献
