An iodine-mediated green synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles under solvent-free conditions using grinding technique

Abstract

An eco-friendly efficient synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles is described through the reaction of aromatic hydrazides with aryl aldehydes obtained by grinding them in the presence of catalytic amounts of molecular iodine in a mortar in a single step. The present method avoids the isolation of N-acyl hydrazones prior to their oxidative cyclization and avoids the use of organic solvents at any stage of the reaction.     

An efficient synthesis of pyrazole chalcones under solvent free conditions at room temperature

An easy,safe,solvent free and effective method for the synthesis of pyrazole-substituted chalcones has been achieved by grinding pyrazole aldehydes and acetophenones in the presence of activated barium hydroxide(C-200) in high yield within short span of time.All reactions were carried out just by grinding the two reactants in the presence of activated barium hydroxide(C-200). Results are also compared with sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.

An isocyanide based multi-component reaction under catalyst- and solvent-free conditions for the synthesis of unsymmetrical thioureas

A new and efficient method for the synthesis of thiourea derivatives by a sequential one-pot, three-component reaction between aromatic isocyanides, amines, and 1,2-di-tert-butyldisulfane (DTBS) was developed and 27 different examples were synthesized in good to excellent yields. DTBS was identified as an effective sulfur surrogate without the use of both catalysts and solvents. This protocol does not employ any transition metal catalyst or special experimental setup.     

Convenient and efficient method for synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylpyridines using catalytic amount of PEG1000-based dicationic acidic ionic liquid under solvent-free conditions

A convenient and efficient method for synthesis of substituted 2,4,6-triarylpyridines by the reaction of chalcones and ammonium acetate or via one-pot, three-component condensation of aromatic aldehydes with acetophenones and ammonium acetate has been developed by using the efficient catalyst PEG₁₀₀₀-based dicationic acidic ionic liquid (PEG₁₀₀₀-DAIL) under solvent-free conditions. Recycling studies have shown that the PEG₁₀₀₀-DAIL can be readily recovered and reused several times without significant loss of activity.

Silica supported perchloric acid (HClO4-SiO2): a green,reusable, and highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of thioethers under solvent-free conditions at room temperature

Abstract

A highly efficient and clean procedure is described for the synthesis of thioethers with excellent yields under solvent-free conditions at room temperature using a catalytic amount of HClO₄-SiO₂. The catalyst is easily prepared, stable, and reusable without much loss of catalytic activity, and is efficient under the reaction conditions.     

Protic guanidinium ionic liquid as a green and highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of functionalized spirochromenes under solvent-free conditions

A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of functionalized spirochromenes is explained using protic guanidinium ionic liquid as a catalyst under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. This procedure is simple, clean, and excellent yields are obtained in short reaction times.     

An efficient one‐pot synthesis of 2‐aminopyrimidinomethylnaphtols under solvent‐free conditions

A novel one‐pot three‐component condensation reaction of an aldehyde, 2‐aminopyrimidine and 2‐naphthol to afford the corresponding 2‐aminopyrimidinomethylnaphtols in good yields. The remarkable features of this new procedure are high conversions, short reaction time, clean reaction profiles, and environmentally benign and simple work‐up procedures.     

An efficient procedure for the synthesis of coumarin derivatives using TiCl4 as catalyst under solvent-free conditions

The ability of titanium(IV) chloride as a catalyst to promote the Pechmann condensation reaction with a range of phenols and β-keto esters is described.The reaction was carried out by addition of TiCl₄ to a mixture of the phenol and the β-keto ester with thorough stirring in the absence of a solvent and represents an improvement on the classical Pechmann conditions. The yields of coumarins obtained via this novel protocol were significantly higher than those using the conventional method and the reaction duration was reduced to a few minutes or even a few seconds.     

An efficient green protocol for the synthesis of 2-aryl substituted benzothiazoles

Abstract

Cyclocondensation of 2-aminothiophenol and various aryl/heteryl aldehydes was carried in polyethylene glycol-400 as a catalyst and reaction medium at room temperature to obtain 2-aryl substituted benzothiazoles with excellent yields.     

Hydroxyl ammonium ionic liquid-catalyzed simple and efficient synthesis of 5-arylidene-2,4-thiazolidinediones under solvent-free conditions

A simple and efficient synthesis of 5-arylidene-2,4-thiazolidinediones by the Knoevenagel condensation of aldehydes with 2,4-thiazolidinedione in the presence of 2-hydroxy ethylammonium propionate under solvent-free conditions is described. The attractive features of this procedure are operational simplicity, high yields, short reaction times, easy to prepare the catalyst, mild and environmentally benign reaction conditions, and recycle of the catalyst.     

Selenonium ionic liquid as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of thioacetals under solvent-free conditions

Acidic ionic liquid butyl ethyl phenyl selenonium tetrafluoroborate, [BEPSe]BF₄, was successfully employed as a catalyst for the synthesis of several dithioacetals in the absence of a solvent. The method is general and selectively afforded thioacetals derived from aldehydes and ketones in good yields.     

Wet carbon-based solid acid/NaNO_3 as a mild and efficient reagent for nitration of aromatic compound under solvent free conditions

Nitro aromatic compound can be obtained in high yields via nitration of aromatic compound with wet carbon-based solid acid and NaNO_3 under solvent free oxidation at room temperature.     

A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of benzimidazoles using air as the oxidant

Direct one-step synthesis of various benzimidazoles from phenylenediamines and aldehydes is described using air as the oxidant. The salient features of this method include a simple procedure, mild conditions, no coupling agents or commercial oxidants/additives used, no waste produced (only by-product being water), easy purification, and high generality.     

Rapid synthesis of substituted 5-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ones under microwave-induced solvent-free conditions

Under microwave irradiation and without solvent, racemic and optically pure mandelic acid readily condenses with aldehydes and ketones to give 2-alkyl substituted 5-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ones in good yield.     

An efficient green synthesis of proline-based cyclic dipeptides under water-mediated catalyst-free conditions

l-Proline-based cyclic dipeptides were synthesized from N-Boc-protected dipeptide methyl esters under catalyst-free condition using water as a solvent. One-pot deprotection and cyclization have been used as the key steps, providing an efficient and environmentally friendly approach. Clean reaction conditions, easy isolation, and good yields of cyclic dipeptides are the salient features of the proposed methodology.     

An efficient synthesis of imidazo[2,1-b][1,3]thiazins via a one-pot,three-component and solvent-free reaction

A simple and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of novel imidazo[2,1-b][1,3]thiazin derivatives has been developed via the one-pot, three-component and solvent-free reaction of thiohydantoins, aromatic aldehyde and 5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione in the presence of catalytic amount of p-toluene sulfonic acid, in good and excellent yields.
