The spectrum of massless bosonic and fermionic fluids satisfying the equation of statep=(–1) is derived using elementary statistical methods. As a limiting case, the Lorentz-invariant spectrum of the vacuum (=0,p=–) is deduced. These results are in agreement with our earlier derivation for bosons using thermodynamics and semiclassical considerations.  相似文献

A variety of rigorous inequalities for critical exponents is proved. Most notable is the low-temperature Josephson inequalitydv +2 2–. Others are 1 1 +v, 1 1 , 1,d 1 + 1/ (for d),dv, 3 + (for d), 4 , and 2m 2m+2 (form 2). The hypotheses vary; all inequalities are true for the spin-1/2 Ising model with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic pair interactions.NSF Predoctoral Fellow (1976–1979). A note on the theory of the successive production of moving striations in the plasma of inert gases
Approximate expressions are derived on the basis of Pekárek's theoretical paper [1] for the period of the maximum tB of a wave packet produced by the passage of a wave of stratification before the aperture of a photomultiplier, and for its time width in the half-height tB. The relaxation time of a wave of stratification, following from the theory [1], can thus be calculated by means of the experimentally measured velocity of motion of the maximum of a wave packet u and its width tB. The calculation is supplemented by numerical data on the magnitude of errors committed by using approximate expressions.

An X-ray diffraction method is described for the quantitative determination of the fibre texture in cylindrical specimens (wires), which does not require specimen preparation. The integrated intensity of the diffracted radiation from a certain atomic plane is measured in the direction parallel to the plane determined by the axis of the wire and by the direct beam for different orientations of the axis of the wire. These measurements can be carried out in practice using an X-ray counter diffractometer or Weissenberg goniometer. The pole figure is determined from the dependence of the diffracted intensity on the orientation of the wire after correcting the intensities for the absorption of radiation in the specimen. The geometric arrangement enables the absorption factor to be calculated analytically. Its form was verified experimentally by measuring the dependence of the intensity of the 220 reflection on the orientation of the axis of a cylindrical specimen of Al containing randomly oriented crystals.

The structural and dynamic parameters of urea at 112°K and 295°K were determined by the least squares method. The characteristic temperature of the torsional optical vibrations of a molecule about a C-O bond was determined and is in good agreement with the value determined by Raman scattering. The fractional X-coordinate of the nitrogen atom corrected for torsional vibrations was determined and it was found that the magnitude of the projection of the C-N bond in the given temperature range changes only within the limits of observational errors. A new method, called temperature difference synthesis, is described and it is shown that it is suitable for rapid qualitative determination of the thermal anisotropy of the vibrations of atoms in a crystal lattice.

Explicit solutions are found for a number of special cases of the potential problem of periodic charge distribution. The effect of uneven distribution of the charges of a Bloch wall on the magnetostatic energy is studied, the effective width of the Bloch wall is determined, an analytical expression is found for this distribution of poles and finally the effective height of the surface layer is also determined. An expression is derived for the orientation of the vectors of magnetization in the surface layer with respect to the easy directions of magnetization. The stability of the basic domain structure up to an inclination ofof the plane under observation to the direction of easy magnetization and the dimensions of the domains in periodic closure structures follow from the calculations.

A model for the distribution of cations in the spinel lattice of manganese ferrites MnFe2O4+ was elaborated on the basis of the experimental studies of the basic magnetic quantities, electrical conductivity and magnetic relaxation of the given ferrites, taking into consideration their crystallographic properties. The conclusions following from this model are in good agreement with the experimental results obtained by us and by other authors both for stoichiometric manganese ferrite and for a ferrite where 0.

We have found that gamma-irradiated polyformaldehyde does not exhibit the effect of the disappearance of the hyperfine structure of EPR spectrum as a function of the dose or the time passed since the end of irradiation, as was found earlier for a group of polymers having only C-C-C-C-atoms in the polymer chain. This difference in the change in the EPR of the polyformaldehyde (PFA) spectrum compared with the polymers with a -C-C-C-C- chain is explained by the impossibility of forming a conjugate double bond in the -C-O-C-O- chain in PFA.

Conclusions A feature of our problem of restoration of fluctuations in ionosphere height is that the experimental data(t, k) obtained at a fixed reception point are functions of time, whereas the function 1(u, y2) to be restored is a function of the coordinates. If we use the assumption that the irregularities migrate transversely, coordinate y2 can be exchanged for time t. Restoration with respect to the second coordinate u=xi–x0/2 is in effect obtained by using data(t, k) on some set of carrier frequencies.The resultant solution of the restoration problem is in the form of an expansion of 1(u, y2) in known functions determined from the observed data(t, k). We have evaluated the solution accuracy, which depends on the overall power signal-to-noise ratio at all frequencies used. We have demonstrated that the restoration algorithm contains an optimum number (with respect to accuracy) of coefficients to be evaluated.Khar'kov Aviation Institute. The first part of the paper gives a general equation for triple-crystal arrangement with perfect crystals on the assumption that the third crystal is rotated. It is shown that in the case of perfect crystals the shape of the reflection curve is practically independent of the vertical divergence. The case of mosaic crystals is also solved and the possibility of rotation by other than the third crystal is considered. A method is proposed for investigating the imperfection of a crystal which is different from methods used up to now. The paper is supplemented by some experimental results.

The local sensitivity of photo-multiplier photo-cathodes
The influence of the non-uniform distribution of the sensitivity of a photo-multiplier photo-cathode on the spectrum shape of the output pulses from a scintillation detector is studied. Methods of scanning the local sensitivity and determining its distribution function are described. The theory was compared qualitatively with measurement on a slow-neutron detector from a mixture of zinc sulphate and boric acid.

The losses caused by bremsstahlung during electron-ion and electron-electron collisions in a completely ionized plasma (in Born's approximation) are calculated. The calculation can be carried out analytically for a sufficiently dilute plasma (plasma with infinitely large Debay-Hückel radius). This assumption is satisfied very well by the known classification to actual controlled thermonuclear reaction. A dependence of the formI=an 2. (1+3/2), wherea=0·73×10–16 MeV.cm3.sec–1,n is the number of ions per cm3 and =kT/mc 2, is determined for the amount of energy radiated from 1 cm3 of plasma per sec. In the relativistic temperature regionkTmc 2 the influence of electron-electron collisions begins to predominate. A number of important results concerning radiation losses in relativistic plasma will be published in a later paper.

The time courses are given of three variations in the intensity of cosmic radiation, which occurred in the first half of 1958. The measuring apparatus is described and the energies of the particles recorded a reestimated. The paper is the partial result of systematic measurements of the intensity of cosmic radiation carried out in Czechoslovakia in the International Geophysical Year.

The paper deals with the collective behaviour of electrons which rotate in a magnetic field used in a betatron. It is shown experimentally that there exists strong interaction between the electrons, which leads to the rapid formation of the equilibrium state with characteristic distribution of the charge density in the cross-section of the toroidal beam. The corresponding relaxation time is of the order of 1 sec. A statistical theory of the equilibrium beam is elaborated. Its main result is that the effective radius of the beam is a function of two parameters, one of which is proportional to the thermal energy of the electrons and the other to the perveance of the beam. The charge contained in a toroidal beam of given effective cross-section is equal to the product of the charge the beam would contain at zero temperature and a coefficient, which is a function of the temperature of the beam. Its value is unity at zero temperature and rapidly decreases with increasing temperature. The cause of cooling of the beam is shown.

A time-harmonic electromagnetic plane wave obliquely incident on a half-space or a slab consisting of a so-called medium is considered. The up- and down-going eigenmodes in the medium are derived and used to calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients for TE and TM modes. The Brewster angles for an half-space are computed.
