A note on the theory of the successive production of moving striations in the plasma of inert gases
Approximate expressions are derived on the basis of Pekárek's theoretical paper [1] for the period of the maximum tB of a wave packet produced by the passage of a wave of stratification before the aperture of a photomultiplier, and for its time width in the half-height tB. The relaxation time of a wave of stratification, following from the theory [1], can thus be calculated by means of the experimentally measured velocity of motion of the maximum of a wave packet u and its width tB. The calculation is supplemented by numerical data on the magnitude of errors committed by using approximate expressions.

A method is described for measuring the relative quantum efficiency of the internal photo-electric effect in semi-conductors by simultaneously measuring the photo-magnetoelectric and photo-conductive effect. The results of measurements on indium antimonide are given. The quantum efficiency begins to increase if the energy of the photon exceeds 0·47 eVat room temperature. The quantum efficiency as a function of the energy of the photon is analysed on the basis of the conception of impact ionization and it is shown that a study of the structure of this curve can supply information on the, band structure of a semi-conductor in the region of high energies of electrons and holes.

The two main arguments concern(1) the presence of an enlightened complementarity between philosophic (including scientific) and religious (not including mystic) thought, and(2) the necessity to postulate a threefold relationship whenever one is to gain knowledge of any kind. They are both inspired by physics (from Bohr's strict complementarity, resp. from Newton's fundamental postulate).God's perfection resides at least in Symmetry in a generalized (not restrictively spatial) sense. Yet, as the argument goes, Space does not exist as a thing. Consequently, the Great Geometer (God) cannot dwell within a World He creates, and it is wrong to speak about His (God's) existence; for, existence is bound to the temporal, and Time is, together with the World, part of God's creation. Thus the only possible creation consists in God separating World and Time from Himself: This is the paradigm of Symmetry-breaking.Polytheistic mythologies all assume such and such imperfection of their deities; hence perfection is meaningful for monotheism only. A relationship of a threefold (trinitary) nature must then obtain between God, World, and Time; this is analogous to Newton's postulate relating force, momentum and time. Just as the latter and its specific generalizations must be found true by verification, the said threefold relationship must also be found true: within philosophic thoughtmore geometrico (in a generalized sense), within religious thoughtmore hymnometrico. Yet the complementarity (called enlightened) arising between the two kinds of thought is of a higher nature than Bohr's strict complementarity. The thermodynamic limit is taken using a sequence of regions all the same shape as a given region of volume ||, with a specified distribution of normal field component on . Absorption and dispersion on NaCl Ni crystals
The results of measuring the absorption and dispersion of light on NaCl Cd crystals were compared with the X-ray diffraction measurements by Toman [10]. The comparison showed that under certain conditions micro-regions of segregated impurities are produced in NaCl Ni crystals, apparent in an increased dispersion of light in the ultra-violet region.

The losses caused by bremsstahlung during electron-ion and electron-electron collisions in a completely ionized plasma (in Born's approximation) are calculated. The calculation can be carried out analytically for a sufficiently dilute plasma (plasma with infinitely large Debay-Hückel radius). This assumption is satisfied very well by the known classification to actual controlled thermonuclear reaction. A dependence of the formI=an 2. (1+3/2), wherea=0·73×10–16 MeV.cm3.sec–1,n is the number of ions per cm3 and =kT/mc 2, is determined for the amount of energy radiated from 1 cm3 of plasma per sec. In the relativistic temperature regionkTmc 2 the influence of electron-electron collisions begins to predominate. A number of important results concerning radiation losses in relativistic plasma will be published in a later paper.

We consider a new expression for the dependence of mass on velocity, more general than the corresponding law of the special theory of relativity (STR). The deviations from the STR become large with increasing rest mass. One should therefore measure the dependence of mass on velocity for objects with a large rest mass. The theory predicts that particles with real mass can travel with hyperlight velocities. The space-time picture discussed here is close to Mach's conception: It is assumed that the dynamical behavior of a particle in uniform translational motion is due to the action of all the other masses in the universe. Space-time is eliminated as an active cause and, in contrast to the STR, is not absolute within the theory discussed here. It turns out that effects based on the new transformation formulas (from the coordinates and time in a stationary frame to the coordinates and time in a moving frame) are identical to those expected from the Lorentz transformations. For example, it is known that rapidly moving mesons decay with a longer half-life than stationary mesons and the STR describes this effect quantitatively. However, there is no strong evidence for the validity of the STR because the theory given in this paper predicts the same result.  相似文献

Localised configurations of the free electromagnetic field are constructed, possessing properties of massive, spinning, relativistic particles. In an inertial frame, each configuration travels in a straight line at constant speed, less than the speed of lightc, while slowly spreading. It eventually decays into pulses of radiation travelling at speedc. Each configuration has a definite rest mass and internal angular momentum, or spin. Each can be of electric or magnetic type, according as the radial component of the magnetic or electric field vanishes in the rest frame, and each has an antiparticle. Any such configuration, of electric or magnetic type, is characterized in part by a set of labels (, 0, ,l, m), where 0 is the mean of the angular frequencies of the plane waves making up the configuration, is the variance of those frequencies, is a positive constant with dimensions of action, andl, m are angular momentum quantum numbers withl a positive integer andm an integer such that ml. The time evolution of a damped quantum particle is discussed. Dissipation is modeled by the bilinear coupling to a set of harmonic oscillators. Using a functional integral technique that accounts for initial correlations between the particle and the reservoir, one can express the dynamics of the damped particle entirely in terms of equilibrium correlation functions. The long-time behavior of these correlations is determined for memory damping arising from the coupling to a reservoir with spectral densityI() at low frequencies, where > 0. The time evolution of nonequilibrium initial states of the damped particle is discussed. At finite temperatures an initially localized state is found to spread subdiffusively or superdiffusively, depending on . For > 2 the damping becomes ineffective for long times, and the width of a state grows kinematically. At zero temperature and for < 1, an initially localized state remains localized for all times. For 1 the state spreads, but with a slower rate than at finite temperatures. Study of arbitrary initial states indicates that the process is ergodic at finite temperatures only for 2 and at zero temperature for 1 2.  相似文献

Since the asymmetry of X-ray emission lines was found to influence the exact measurements of lattice parameters of powdered samples the author has revised the results she once obtained when carrying out exact measurements of the lattice parameter with radiations of various wavelengths for tungsten crystals containing admixtures of different elements. It is shown that with samples having an inhomogeneous distribution of the admixtures in the crystals the typical graphs of lattice parameter found originally remain when respecting the influence of the spectral asymmetry. On the other hand, with a sintered sample which has been homogeneized by long annealing the introduction of corrections to spectral asymmetry leads to an adjustment of the differences measured originally, for which it was difficult to find a probable explanation.

In a systematic study of the transfer process to sulphur dioxide, in seven different H2 + SO2 gas mixtures, the time spectra of the muonic sulphur X-rays yield muon transfer rates to the SO2 molecule, deduced from the lifetimes of the p atoms, which agree all well with each other. The muonic oxygen time spectra show an additional structure as if p atoms of another kind were present. Reduced transfer ratesO are reproducible if one uses the model of ephemeral p atoms. The intensity ratios between the different kinds of p atoms are also discussed in the framework of this model and the one of black and white p atoms.  相似文献

Within the framework of the conditions ; » –1 ( –1 is the mean time of momentum relaxation), the coefficient of absorption () of a weak electromagnetic wave by the free carriers of a polar semiconductor is calculated in the presence of a strong wave (of frequency ), for arbitrary values of and . Photon absorption by band electrons is due to these latter interacting with optical phonons (of frequency o). The problem is solved by using an analogous approach to the theory of the linear Kubo reaction. The results are valid in the absence of electron heating, when a strong wave only influences the scattering probability. The appearance of a photostimulated tail of absorption is predicted for < o, including the jump () for ( – o + ) 0T as well as peaks in the function () at the points s=s (s=1, 2, 3,...). Hardening in modulated structure is evaluated using the periodic approximation. The critical shear stress increment due to the periodic structure is calculated in the constant line energy approximation. The results are applicable to any periodic structure (concentration waves must be neither homophase nor symmetric) exerting on the dislocation local glide forces with an amplitude smaller than ( denotes the line energy of corresponding straight dislocation directed along the concentration variations with the wave vector).
