Genetic algorithms and other evolutionary algorithms have been successfully applied to solve constrained minimum spanning tree problems in a variety of communication network design problems. In this paper, we enlarge the application of these types of algorithms by presenting a multi-population hybrid genetic algorithm to another communication design problem. This new problem is modeled through a hop-constrained minimum spanning tree also exhibiting the characteristic of flows. All nodes, except for the root node, have a nonnegative flow requirement. In addition to the fixed charge costs, nonlinear flow dependent costs are also considered. This problem is an extension of the well know NP-hard hop-constrained Minimum Spanning Tree problem and we have termed it hop-constrained minimum cost flow spanning tree problem. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method can be seen from the computational results reported.  相似文献

The 2-rooted mini-max spanning forest problem is to find a spanning forest with two given root nodes on an undirected graph, such that the maximum tree cost in this forest is minimized. We introduce a branch-and-bound algorithm based on selecting nodes. On test instances up to 50 nodes the algorithm gives much better computational results than a known algorithm that is based on selecting edges. Furthermore the new algorithm can easily solve problem instances up to 80 nodes.  相似文献

A dual ascent approach for steiner tree problems on a directed graph   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The Steiner tree problem on a directed graph (STDG) is to find a directed subtree that connects a root node to every node in a designated node setV. We give a dual ascent procedure for obtaining lower bounds to the optimal solution value. The ascent information is also used in a heuristic procedure for obtaining feasible solutions to the STDG. Computational results indicate that the two procedures are very effective in solving a class of STDG's containing up to 60 nodes and 240 directed/120 undirected arcs. The directed spanning tree and uncapacitated plant location problems are special cases of the STDG. Using these relationships, we show that our ascent procedure can be viewed as a generalization ofboth the Chu-Liu-Edmonds directed spanning tree algorithm and the Bilde-Krarup-Erlenkotter ascent algorithm for the plant location problem. The former comparison yields a dual ascent interpretation of the steps of the directed spanning tree algorithm.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the problem of scheduling n independent jobs on m identical parallel machines for the objective of minimizing total tardiness of the jobs. We develop dominance properties and lower bounds, and develop a branch and bound algorithm using these properties and lower bounds as well as upper bounds obtained from a heuristic algorithm. Computational experiments are performed on randomly generated test problems and results show that the algorithm solves problems with moderate sizes in a reasonable amount of computation time.  相似文献

We prove new results for approximating the graph-TSP and some related problems. We obtain polynomial-time algorithms with improved approximation guarantees. For the graph-TSP itself, we improve the approximation ratio to 7=5. For a generalization, the minimum T-tour problem, we obtain the first nontrivial approximation algorithm, with ratio 3=2. This contains the s-t-path graph-TSP as a special case. Our approximation guarantee for finding a smallest 2-edge-connected spanning subgraph is 4=3. The key new ingredient of all our algorithms is a special kind of ear-decomposition optimized using forest representations of hypergraphs. The same methods also provide the lower bounds (arising from LP relaxations) that we use to deduce the approximation ratios.  相似文献

Given an undirected network with positive edge costs and a natural number p, the Hop-Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree problem (HMST) is the problem of finding a spanning tree with minimum total cost such that each path starting from a specified root node has no more than p hops (edges). In this paper, we develop new formulations for HMST. The formulations are based on Miller-Tucker-Zemlin (MTZ) subtour elimination constraints, MTZ-based liftings in the literature offered for HMST, and a new set of topology-enforcing constraints. We also compare the proposed models with the MTZ-based models in the literature with respect to linear programming relaxation bounds and solution times. The results indicate that the new models give considerably better bounds and solution times than their counterparts in the literature and that the new set of constraints is competitive with liftings to MTZ constraints, some of which are based on well-known, strong liftings of Desrochers and Laporte (1991).  相似文献

A ring star in a graph is a subgraph that can be decomposed into a cycle (or ring) and a set of edges with exactly one vertex in the cycle. In the minimum ring-star problem (mrsp) the cost of a ring star is given by the sum of the costs of its edges, which vary, depending on whether the edge is part of the ring or not. The goal is to find a ring-star spanning subgraph minimizing the sum of all ring and assignment costs. In this paper we show that the mrsp can be reduced to a minimum (constrained) Steiner arborescence problem on a layered graph. This reduction is used to introduce a new integer programming formulation for the mrsp. We prove that the dual bound generated by the linear relaxation of this formulation always dominates the one provided by an early model from the literature. Based on our new formulation, we developed a branch-and-cut algorithm for the mrsp. On the primal side, we devised a grasp heuristic to generate good upper bounds for the problem. Computational tests with these algorithms were conducted on a benchmark of public domain. In these experiments both our exact and heuristics algorithms had excellent performances, noticeably in dealing with instances whose optimal solution has few vertices in the ring. In addition, we also investigate the minimum spanning caterpillar problem (mscp) which has the same input as the mrsp and admits feasible solutions that can be viewed as ring stars with paths in the place of rings. We present an easy reduction of the mscp to the mrsp, which makes it possible to solve to optimality instances of the former problem too. Experiments carried out with the mscp revealed that our branch-and-cut algorithm is capable to solve to optimality instances with up to 200 vertices in reasonable time.  相似文献

Evolutionary algorithms are applied to problems that are not well understood as well as to problems in combinatorial optimization. The analysis of these search heuristics has been started for some well-known polynomial solvable problems. Such analyses are starting points for the analysis of evolutionary algorithms on difficult problems. We present the first runtime analysis of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm on a NP-hard problem. The subject of our analysis is the multi-objective minimum spanning tree problem for which we give upper bounds on the expected time until a simple evolutionary algorithm has produced a population including for each extremal point of the Pareto front a corresponding spanning tree. These points are of particular interest as they give a 2-approximation of the Pareto front. We show that in expected pseudopolynomial time a population is produced that includes for each extremal point a corresponding spanning tree.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the following minimax linear programming problem: min z = max1 ≤ jn{CjXj}, subject to Ax = g, x ≥ 0. It is well known that this problem can be transformed into a linear program by introducing n additional constraints. We note that these additional constraints can be considered implicitly by treating them as parametric upper bounds. Based on this approach we develop two algorithms: a parametric algorithm and a primal—dual algorithm. The parametric algorithm solves a linear programming problem with parametric upper bounds and the primal—dual algorithm solves a sequence of related dual feasible linear programming problems. Computation results are also presented, which indicate that both the algorithms are substantially faster than the simplex algorithm applied to the enlarged linear programming problem.  相似文献

We present an exact algorithm for solving the generalized minimum spanning tree problem (GMST). Given an undirected connected graph and a partition of the graph vertices, this problem requires finding a least-cost subgraph spanning at least one vertex out of every subset. In this paper, the GMST is formulated as a minimum spanning tree problem with side constraints and solved exactly by a branch-and-bound algorithm. Lower bounds are derived by relaxing, in a Lagrangian fashion, complicating constraints to yield a modified minimum cost spanning tree problem. An efficient preprocessing algorithm is implemented to reduce the size of the problem. Computational tests on a large set of randomly generated instances with as many as 250 vertices, 1000 edges, and 25 subsets provide evidence that the proposed solution approach is very effective.  相似文献

It is well known that it is an ill-posed problem to decide whether a function has a multiple root. Even for a univariate polynomial an arbitrary small perturbation of a polynomial coefficient may change the answer from yes to no. Let a system of nonlinear equations be given. In this paper we describe an algorithm for computing verified and narrow error bounds with the property that a slightly perturbed system is proved to have a double root within the computed bounds. For a univariate nonlinear function f we give a similar method also for a multiple root. A narrow error bound for the perturbation is computed as well. Computational results for systems with up to 1000 unknowns demonstrate the performance of the methods.  相似文献

The problem is considered of finding in a complete undirected weighted graph a connected spanning subgraph with the given degrees of the vertices having maximum total weight of the edges. An approximate polynomial algorithm is presented for this problem. In this paper we present two lower bounds for the p-median problem, the problem of locating p facilities (medians) on a network. These bounds are based on two separate lagrangean relaxations of a zero-one formulation of the problem with subgradient optimisation being used to maximise these bounds. Penalty tests based on these lower bounds and a heuristically determined upper bound to the problem are developed and shown to result in a large reduction in problem size. The incorporation of the lower bounds and the penalty tests into a tree search procedure is described and computational results are given for problems with an arbitrary number of medians and having up to 200 vertices. A comparison is also made between these algorithms and the dual-based algorithm of Erlenkotter.  相似文献

We address a particular case of the quadratic minimum spanning tree problem in which interaction costs only apply for adjacent edges. Motivated by the fact that Gilmore-Lawler procedures in the literature underestimate the contribution of interaction costs to compute lower bounds, we introduce a reformulation that allows stronger linear programming bounds to be computed. An algorithm based on dynamic column and row generation is presented for evaluating these bounds. Our computational experiments indicate that the reformulation introduced here is indeed much stronger than those in the literature.  相似文献

The bi-objective minimum diameter-cost spanning tree problem (bi-MDCST) seeks spanning trees with minimum total cost and minimum diameter. The bi-objective version generalizes the well-known bounded diameter minimum spanning tree problem. The bi-MDCST is a NP-hard problem and models several practical applications in transportation and network design. We propose a bi-objective multiflow formulation for the problem and effective multi-objective metaheuristics: a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm and a fast nondominated sorting genetic algorithm. Some guidelines on how to optimize the problem whenever a priority order can be established between the two objectives are provided. In addition, we present bi-MDCST polynomial cases and theoretical bounds on the search space. Results are reported for four representative test sets.  相似文献

Given an undirected graph G with penalties associated with its vertices and costs associated with its edges, a Prize Collecting Steiner (PCS) tree is either an isolated vertex of G or else any tree of G, be it spanning or not. The weight of a PCS tree equals the sum of the costs for its edges plus the sum of the penalties for the vertices of G not spanned by the PCS tree. Accordingly, the Prize Collecting Steiner Problem in Graphs (PCSPG) is to find a PCS tree with the lowest weight. In this paper, after reformulating and re-interpreting a given PCSPG formulation, we use a Lagrangian Non Delayed Relax and Cut (NDRC) algorithm to generate primal and dual bounds to the problem. The algorithm is capable of adequately dealing with the exponentially many candidate inequalities to dualize. It incorporates ingredients such as a new PCSPG reduction test, an effective Lagrangian heuristic and a modification in the NDRC framework that allows duality gaps to be further reduced. The Lagrangian heuristic suggested here dominates their PCSPG counterparts in the literature. The NDRC PCSPG lower bounds, most of the time, nearly matched the corresponding Linear Programming relaxation bounds.  相似文献

The Multiple Knapsack Problem (MKP) is the problem of assigning a subset of n items to m distinct knapsacks, such that the total profit sum of the selected items is maximized, without exceeding the capacity of each of the knapsacks. The problem has several applications in naval as well as financial management. A new exact algorithm for the MKP is presented, which is specially designed for solving large problem instances. The recursive branch-and-bound algorithm applies surrogate relaxation for deriving upper bounds, while lower bounds are obtained by splitting the surrogate solution into the m knapsacks by solving a series of Subset-sum Problems. A new separable dynamic programming algorithm is presented for the solution of Subset-sum Problems, and we also use this algorithm for tightening the capacity constraints in order to obtain better upper bounds. The developed algorithm is compared to the mtm algorithm by Martello and Toth, showing the benefits of the new approach. A surprising result is that large instances with n=100 000 items may be solved in less than a second, and the algorithm has a stable performance even for instances with coefficients in a moderately large range.  相似文献

In this paper we develop an algorithm to optimise a nonlinear utility function of multiple objectives over the integer efficient set. Our approach is based on identifying and updating bounds on the individual objectives as well as the optimal utility value. This is done using already known solutions, linear programming relaxations, utility function inversion, and integer programming. We develop a general optimisation algorithm for use with k objectives, and we illustrate our approach using a tri-objective integer programming problem.  相似文献

This paper studies a statistical problem called instrumental variable quantile regression (IVQR). We model IVQR as a convex quadratic program with complementarity constraints and—although this type of program is generally NP-hard—we develop a branch-and-bound algorithm to solve it globally. We also derive bounds on key variables in the problem, which are valid asymptotically for increasing sample size. We compare our method with two well known global solvers, one of which requires the computed bounds. On random instances, our algorithm performs well in terms of both speed and robustness.  相似文献

The paper considers the problem of finding a spanning arborescence on a directed network whose arc costs are partially known. It is assumed that each arc cost can take on values from a known interval defining a possible economic scenario. In this context, the problem of finding the spanning arborescence which better approaches to that of minimum overall cost under each possible scenario is studied. The minimax regret criterion is proposed in order to obtain such a robust solution of the problem. As it is shown, the bounds on the optimal value of the minimax regret optimization problem obtained in a previous paper, can be used here in a Branch and Bound algorithm in order to give an optimal solution. The computational behavior of the algorithm is tested through numerical experiments.
