This article provides classes of unitary operators of L2(R) contained in the commutant of the Shift operator, such that for any pair of multiresolution analyses of L2(R) there exists a unitary operator in one of these classes, which maps all the scaling functions of the first multiresolution analysis to scaling functions of the other. We use these unitary operators to provide an interesting class of scaling functions. We show that the Dai-Larson unitary parametrization of orthonormal wavelets is not suitable for the study of scaling functions. These operators give an interesting relation between low-pass filters corresponding to scaling functions, which is implemented by a special class of unitary operators acting on L2([−π, π)), which we characterize. Using this characterization we recapture Daubechies' orthonormal wavelets bypassing the spectral factorization process. Acknowledgements and Notes. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and to discuss the concept of approximation preserving operators on Banach lattices with a strong unit. We show that every lattice isomorphism is an approximation preserving operator. Also we give a necessary and sufficient condition for uniqueness of the best approximation by closed normal subsets of X+X+, and show that this condition is characterized by some special operators.  相似文献

Recently, A. Cohen, R. A. DeVore, P. Petrushev, and H. Xu investigated nonlinear approximation in the space BV (R 2 ). They modified the classical adaptive algorithm to solve related extremal problems. In this paper, we further study the modified adaptive approximation and obtain results on some extremal problems related to the spaces V σ,p r (R d ) of functions of ``Bounded Variation" and Besov spaces B α (R d ). In this paper we introduce some new sequences of positive linear operators, acting on a sufficiently large space of continuous functions on the real line, which generalize Gauss–Weierstrass operators.We study their approximation properties and prove an asymptotic formula that relates such operators to a second order elliptic differential operator of the form Lu?αu′′+βu+γu.Shape-preserving and regularity properties are also investigated.  相似文献

Let {r n } be a sequence of rational functions deg( r n ≤ n) that converge rapidly in measure to an analytic function f on an open set in C N . We show that {r n } converges rapidly in capacity to f on its natural domain of definition W f (which, by a result of Goncar, is an open subset of C N ). In particular, for f meromorphic on C N and analytic near zero the sequence of Padé approximants n (z, f, λ)} (as defined by Goncar) converges rapidly in capacity to f on C N . January 14, 1999. The paper establishes the decrease rate of the Kolmogorov diameters of entire functions from the space L 2(0, ∞) in terms of minimal Blaschke products on the singularity sets of Borel transforms. By providing a counterexample we show that there exists a shift-invariant spaceS generated by a piecewise linear function such that the union of the corresponding scaled spacesS h (h>0) is dense inC 0(R 2) butS does not contain a stable and locally supported partition of unity. The approximation order provided by a directed set {S h } h>0 of spaces, each spanned by thehZ d -translates of one function, is analyzed. The nearoptimal approximants of [R2] from eachs h to the exponential functions are used to establish upper bounds on the approximation order. These approximants are also used on the Fourier transform domain to yield approximations for other smooth functions, and thereby provide lower bounds on the approximation order. As a special case, the classical Strang-Fix conditions are extended to bounded summable generating functions.The second part of the paper consists of a detailed account of various applications of these general results to spline and radial function theory. Emphasis is given to the case when the scale {s h } is obtained froms 1 by means other than dilation. Abstract

A semi-quantitative theory of covering metric spaces is studied; the theory, involving the concept of a ‘fine cover’, has proved useful in complex analysis. We obtain general results on fine covers, and put forward some conjectures. Most of these remain unanswered (and indeed seem most difficult to answer) for subsets of the real line.  相似文献

Given a function f on [0,1] and a wavelet-type expansion of f , we introduce a new algorithm providing an approximation $\tilde f of f with a prescribed number D of nonzero coefficients in its expansion. This algorithm depends only on the number of coefficients to be kept and not on any smoothness assumption on f . Nevertheless it provides the optimal rate D of approximation with respect to the L q -norm when f belongs to some Besov space B α p,∈fty whenever α>(1/p-1/q) + . These results extend to more general expansions including splines and piecewise polynomials and to multivariate functions. In the paper, joint universality theorems for periodic zeta functions with multiplicative coefficients and periodic Hurwitz zeta-functions are proved. The main theorem of [11] is extended, and two new joint universality theorems on the approximation of a collection of analytic functions by discrete shifts of the above zeta-functions are obtained. Mackey-complete complex commutative continuous inverse algebras generalize complex commutative Banach algebras. After constructing the Gelfand transform for these algebras, we develop the functional calculus for holomorphic functions on neighbourhoods of the joint spectra of finitely many elements and for holomorphic functions on neighbourhoods of the Gelfand spectrum. To this end, we study the algebra of holomorphic germs in weak*weak*-compact subsets of the dual. We emphasize the simultaneous analyticity of the functional calculus in both the function and its arguments and its naturality. The aim of this paper is to present a new class of B-spline-like functions with tension properties. The main feature of these basis functions consists in possessing C3C3 or even C4C4 continuity and, at the same time, being endowed by shape parameters that can be easily handled. Therefore they constitute a useful tool for the construction of curves satisfying some prescribed shape constraints. The construction is based on a geometric approach which uses parametric curves with piecewise quintic components.  相似文献

In this article we consider a simple method of radial quasi-interpolation by polynomials on the unit sphere in ℝ3, and present rates of covergence for this method in Sobolev spaces of square integrable functions. We write the discrete Fourier series as a quasi-interpolant and hence obtain convergence rates, in the aforementioned Sobolev spaces, for the discrete Fourier projection. We also discuss some typical practical examples used in the context of spherical wavelets.  相似文献

We prove a direct theorem for shape preservingL p -approximation, 0p, in terms of the classical modulus of smoothnessw 2(f, t p 1 ). This theorem may be regarded as an extension toL p of the well-known pointwise estimates of the Timan type and their shape-preserving variants of R. DeVore, D. Leviatan, and X. M. Yu. It leads to a characterization of monotone and convex functions in Lipschitz classes (and more general Besov spaces) in terms of their approximation by algebraic polynomials.Communicated by Ron DeVore.  相似文献

Let Emn be the distance in the supremum norm on ¦z¦ ? ? from ez to the set of rational functions of type (m, n). The analog of Braess' result turns out to be Emn ~ m! n! ?m + n +1(m + n)! A two point subdivision scheme with two parameters is proposed to draw curves corresponding to functions that satisfy Hermite conditions on [a, b].
