Fabrication of Micro‐ and Nanoscale Crystals and Thin Films of a Phthalocyanine

Micro‐ and nanosized crystals of 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25–octabutoxy–29H, 31H–phthalocyanine (Pc) were successfully fabricated through the reprecipitation approach followed by ultrasonication treatment from acetone solution. Phthalocyanine thin films were prepared by vacuum sublimation, spin‐coating and drop‐cast methods, respectively. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy, polarizing optical microscopy and luminescence spectrometry were applied to study phthalocyanine crystal's surface morphology, electronic absorption, birefringence and light emission properties accordingly. The electronic absorption maximum of Pc nanocrystals shifts to longer wavelength compared to that in acetone solution. Birefringence phenomena exist for Pc crystals with different sizes. Fluorescence is observed for both the Pc in acetone solution and thin film.     

Synthesis and antitumor activity of a group of diosgenyl glycosides

Using orthogonal protection-deprotection glycosylation strategy, a series of diosgenyl glycosides with same of monosaccharides component but different in sequence were synthesized. The antitumor activity in vitro of synthesized diosgenyl glycosides was evaluated by standard MTT assay. It was observed that diosgenyl glycosides with a rhamnopyranosyl at C2′ of glucopyranosyl residue show potent antitumor activity in vitro.     

Synthesis and characterization of a monomeric and a dihydroxo-bridged dimeric complexes of iron(III) with α-benzoinoxime

The reaction of α-benzoinoxime, H₂BNO with FeCl₃ in the presence of Et₃N as a base gives the mononuclear Fe(III) complex, Fe(HBNO)₃ (1). Treatment of 1 with a methanolic solution of KOH at room temperature leads to a dinuclear Fe(III)–Fe(III) complex, [Fe(HBNO)₂OH]₂ (2). The complexes were initially characterized on the basis of their elemental, mass and thermal analyses. The IR studies were useful in assigning the coordination mode of the benzoinoxime ligand to the iron metal. In addition, the presence of a hydroxo-bridge in the dimeric complex 2 is inferred from the IR spectral studies. Room-temperature Mössbauer studies indicated octahedral, high-spin iron(III). Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements supported the existence of the μ-dihydroxo-bridging structure core, Fe^III(μ-OH)₂Fe^III in the dinuclear complex 2. Theoretical modelling of the magnetic data indicated a weak antiferromagnetic spin exchange between the iron(III) centers (J = −8.35 cm⁻¹, g = 2.01, ρ = 0.02 and TIP = 1.7 × 10⁻⁴ cm³ mol⁻¹ for H = −2JS₁ · S₂). The electronic spectra of the complexes revealed two bands due to d–d transitions and one band assignable to an oxygen (p_π) → Fe(d_π∗) LMCT transition observed in each complex. An additional charge-transfer transition, assignable to μ-hydroxo(p_π) → Fe(d_π∗), was observed for the dimeric complex 2. The structural and vibrational behaviors of these complexes have been elucidated with quantum mechanical methods.

Vapour pressures and enthalpies of vaporization of a series of δ-lactones

Vapour pressures and molar enthalpies of vaporization of a series of δ-lactones (δ-valerolactone (CAS#542-28-9), δ-hexanolactone (CAS#823-22-3), δ-octanolactone (CAS#698-76-0), δ-nonanolactone (CAS#3301-94-8), and δ-decanolactone (CAS#705-86-2)) have been determined by the transpiration method. A linear correlation of enthalpies of vaporization ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_{\text{l}}^{\text{g}}{H}_{\text{m}}$ at T = 298.15 K of the δ-lactones studied with the number of carbon atoms has been found.     

Synthesis and Properties of a Novel Photochromic Compound

A new photochromic compound containing pyrazolone-ring was synthesized, and its crystal structure was determined on X-ray singlecrystal diffraction, which belongs to monoclinic crystal system, space group P21/c. The UV spectrum of the compound is studied.     

Screening and Identification of a Fungal β-Glucosidase and the Enzymatic Synthesis of Gentiooligosaccharide

After screening with 0.1% esculoside and 0.03% FeCl₃, we identified from rotten wood a fungal isolate HML0366 that produces high amount of β-glucosidase. Phenotypic and rDNA internal transcribed spacer sequence analyses indicated that the isolate belongs to Aspergillus oryzae. The β-glucosidase produced by HML0366 had an activity of 128 U/g. high performance liquid chromatography analysis also demonstrated a high transglycosylation activity of the crude enzyme. The β-glucosidase was stable between pH 4–10 at 60 °C. A gentiobiose yield of 30.86 g/L was achieved within 72 h of the enzymatic reaction at pH 5 and 55 °C using 50% glucose as the substrate. For the first time, we report here the isolation of an A. oryzae strain producing β-glucosidase with high hydrolytic activities. The crude enzyme has a high transglycosylation activity, which enables the enzymatic synthesis of gentiooligosaccharides.     

Synthesis and Structure of a Novel Disulfide-Containing Aniline

A novel disulfide-containing aniline, 8-dihydro-1H,4H-2,3,6,7-tetrathia-anthracen-9-ylamine (5) was synthesized.The single-crystal X-ray analysis of 4 indicates that the molecular has a non-planar structure, with its four sulfur atoms out of the plane of benzene ting. The designed molecular has the advantage of high theoretic specific capacity and reversibility,[1,2] when it is to be polymerized and used as the cathode material of the secondary lithium batteries.     

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Genistein-derived Compound

A genistein derivative, 5-hydroxy-3-（4-hydroxyphenyl）-7-（2-（piperidin- 1-yl）ethoxy）- 4H-chromen-4-one 3, was designed, prepared and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray structure analysis reveals that 3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca, with a = 16.238（3）, b = 10.308（2）, c = 22.987（5）A, V = 3847.6（13）A3, Z = 8,μ= 0.093 mm^-1, Dc = 1.317 g/cm^3, F（000） = 1616, R = 0.0789 and wR = 0.1554 for 1463 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ（I）.

The synthetic approach involves the coupling reaction of polystyrene(PS) backbone bearing 1,1-diphenylethene(DPE) pendant groups,produced by ATRP and Wittig reaction,with living polystyryllithium(PSLi) ,and subsequent polymerization of the resulting 1,1-diphenylmethyl anions with methy methacrylate. The centipede-like copolymer was characterized by 1H NMR,IR,SEC,SLS,and DSC measurements.

Gene Cloning and Characterization of a Novel Salt-Tolerant and Glucose-Enhanced β-Glucosidase from a Marine Streptomycete

The gene BglNH encoding a β-glucosidase was cloned from a marine streptomycete. Sequence analysis revealed that BglNH encoded a 456-aa peptide with a calculated mass of 51 kDa. The deduced amino acid sequence of BglNH showed the highest identities of 61 % with known β-glucosidases and contained a catalytic domain which belonged to the glycoside hydrolase family 1. The gene BglNH was expressed in Escherichia coli and the recombinant enzyme (r-BglNH) was purified. The optimum pH and temperature of r-BglNH were pH?6.0 and 45 °C, respectively. The r-BglNH displayed the typical salt-tolerant and glucose-enhanced characteristics. Its activity was remarkably enhanced in the presence of 0.5 M NaCl (rose more than 1.6-fold) and 0.1 M glucose (rose more than 1.4-fold). Moreover, r-BglNH displayed good pH stability and metal tolerance. It remained stable after incubating with buffers from pH?4.0 to 10.0, and most metal ions had no significant inhibition on its activity. These properties indicate that r-BglNH is an ideal candidate for further research and industrial applications.
