The elastic and thermodynamic properties of CsCl-type structure CaB6 under high pressure are investigated by first-principles calculations based on plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice parameters of CaB6 under zero pressure and zero temperature are in good agreement with the existing experimental data and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of the elastic constants, bulk modulus B (GPa), and its pressure derivative B′, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, elastic Debye temperature ΘB, Zener's anisotropy parameter A, Poisson ratios σ, and Kleinmann parameter ζ are also presented. An analysis for the calculated elastic constants has been made to reveal the mechanical stability of CaB6 up to 100 GPa. The thermodynamic properties of the CsCl-type structure CaB6 are predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relationship, the variations of the heat capacity CV, Debye temperature ΘD, and the thermal expansion α with pressure P and temperature T, as well as the Grüneisen parameters γ are obtained systematically in the ranges of 0-100 GPa and 0-2000 K.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, and electronic properties of SrZrN2 under pressure up to 100?GPa have been carried out with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters at 0?GPa and 0?K by using the GGA-PW91-ultrasoft method are in good agreement with the available experimental data and other previous theoretical calculations. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants and the elastic-dependent properties of SrZrN2, such as bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Debye temperature Θ, shear and longitudinal wave velocity VS and VL, are also successfully obtained. It is found that all elastic constants increase monotonically with pressure. When the pressure increases up to 140?GPa, the obtained elastic constants do not satisfy the mechanical stability criteria and a phase transition might has occurred. Moreover, the anisotropy of the directional-dependent Young's modulus and the linear compressibility under different pressures are analysed for the first time. Finally, the pressure dependence of the total and partial densities of states and the bonding property of SrZrN2 are also investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

SrClF is an important optical crystal and can be used as pressure gauge in diamond anvil cell at high pressure. In this work, we performed a systematic study on the structural, electronic and elastic properties of SrClF under pressure, as well as its thermal conductivity, by first-principles calculation. Different exchange-correlation functionals were tested and PBESOL was finally chosen to study these properties of SrClF. Studies reveal that SrClF has a bulk modulus of about 56.2 GPa (by fitting equation of states) or 54.3 GPa (derived from elastic constants), which agree well with the experimental result. SrClF is mechanically and dynamically stable up to 50 GPa. Its elastic constants increase with the applied pressure, but its mechanical anisotropy deteriorates as the pressure increases. Investigation of its electronic properties reveals that SrClF is a direct band-gap insulator with a gap value of 5.73 eV at 0 GPa, which decreases with the increasing pressure and the reason is found by analysing the partial density of states. Based on the calculated phonon dispersion curves, thermal conductivity of SrClF is predicated. At ambient conditions, the predicted thermal conductivity is about 3.74 Wm?1 K?1, while that obtained using the simplified Slack model give a slightly larger value of 4.62 Wm?1 K?1.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and electronic properties of BaZnO2 under pressure are investigated by the plane wave pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT). The calculated lattice parameters and unit cell volume of BaZnO2 at the ground state are in good agreement with the available experimental data and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, B/G, Poisson’ s ratio σ, Debye temperature Θ and aggregate acoustic velocities VP and VS are systematically investigated. It is shown that BaZnO2 maintains ductile properties under the applied pressures. Analysis for the calculated elastic constants has been made to reveal the mechanical stability and mechanical anisotropy of BaZnO2. At the ground state, the calculated compressional and shear wave velocities are 8.26 km/s and 1.81 km/s, respectively, and the Debye temperature Θ is 240.8 K. The pressure dependences of the density of states and the bonding property of BaZnO2 are also investigated.  相似文献

To better clarify the physical properties for Al3RE precipitates, first-principles calculations are performed to investigate the vibrational, anisotropic elastic and thermodynamic properties of Al3Er and Al3Yb. The calculated results agree well with available experimental and theoretical ones. The vibrational properties indicate that Al3Er and Al3Yb will keep their dynamical stabilities with L12 structure up to 100 GPa. The elastic constants are satisfied with mechanical stability criteria up to the external pressure of 100 GPa. The mechanical anisotropy is predicted by anisotropic constants AG, AU, AZ and 3D curved surface of Young’s modulus. The calculated results show that both Al3Er and Al3Yb are isotropic at zero pressure and obviously anisotropic under high pressure. Further, we systematically investigate the thermodynamic properties and provide the relationships between thermal parameters and pressure. Finally, the pressure-dependent behaviours of density of states, Mulliken charge and bond length are discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of LuX (X = N, Bi and Sb) based on rare earth into phases, Rocksalt (B1) and CsCl (B2) have been investigated using full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) within density functional theory. Local density approximation (LDA) for exchange-correlation potential and local spin density approximation (LSDA) are employed. The structural parameters as lattice parameters a0, bulk modulus B, its pressure derivate B’ and cut-off energy (Ec) within LDA and LSDA are presented. The elastic constants were derived from the stress–strain relation at 0 K. The thermodynamic properties for LuX using the quasi-harmonic Debye model are studied. The temperature and pressure variation of volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacities, Debye temperature and Gibbs free energy at different pressures (0–50 GPa) and temperatures (0–1600 K) are predicted. The calculated results are in accordance with other data.  相似文献

Abstract

The pressure dependence of the structural, elastic, electronic and thermal properties of Kondo insulator SmB6 have been systematically studied by density functional theory combined with the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The calculated structure at zero pressure is in good agreement with the available experimental results at low temperature. The obtained elastic constants, bulk modulus and shear modulus indicate that SmB6 is mechanically stable and behaves in a brittle manner under the applied pressure 0–20 GPa, consistent with available experimental data. In addition, the elastic-relevant properties, Young’s modulus and the Poisson ratio manifest that increasing pressure results in an enhancement in the stiffness of the compound. It is found that unlike temperature, pressure has little effect on the heat capacity of SmB6. What more important is that we observed an insulator to metal phase transition at about 5.5 GPa through the disappearance of the band gap, well consistent with the experimental data. This transition has little effect on the physical properties of SmB6.  相似文献

The elastic, phonon and thermodynamic properties of the divalent alkaline-earth hexaboride SrB6 are investigated by using plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated structure parameters and bulk modulus are well consistent with the available experiment and theoretical data. The pressure dependences of elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B0, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E and Poisson's ratio σ are also presented. With these elastic parameters, we investigate the mechanical stability and compressibility of SrB6. For the thermodynamic properties, both phonon and quasi-harmonic Debye model methods are adopted. Through the comparison with experimental and other theoretical results, we found the method of quasi-harmonic Debye model is a little better. Moreover, the phonon dispersion relations are also obtained. It is found that there are two LO/TO splitting around 5 THz and 26 THz, respectively.  相似文献

The elastic and electronic structure properties of YNi2B2C under pressure are investigated by performing the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA) correction scheme in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). The pressure dependences of the normalized lattice parameters a/a0 and c/c0, the ratio c/a, and the normalized primitive volume V/V0 of YNi2B2C are also obtained. The lattice constants and bulk modulus obtained are in agreement with the available experimental and other theoretical data. We have also studied the pressure dependences of elastic properties. It is found that, as pressure increases, the elastic constants C11, C33, C66, C12, and C13 increase, the variation of elastic constant C44 is not obvious. Moreover, our compressional and shear wave velocities VL=6.99 km/s and VS=3.67 km/s as well as the Debye temperature Θ=549.7 K at 0 GPa compare favorably with the available experimental data. The pressure dependences of band structures, energy gap and density of states are also investigated.  相似文献

We investigate the structural and elastic properties of LaTiO3 by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The lattice constants, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative are obtained. These properties in the equilibrium phase are well consistent with the available experimental data. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants, ductility, mechanical stabilities, sound velocity and Debye temperatures are investigated for the first time. From the ratio G/B, we conclude that LaTiO3 is ductile at 0 GPa and becomes more ductile at high pressure. In addition, the anisotropy factors for every symmetry plane and axis as well as linear bulk modulus at diverse pressures have been obtained.  相似文献

The lattice constants, elastic properties, electronic structure and thermodynamic properties of Al3Nb with DO22 structure have been investigated by the first-principles calculation. The calculated lattice constants were consistent with the experimental values, and the structural stability was also studied from the energetic point of view. The single-crystal elastic constants (Cij) as well as polycrystalline elastic parameters (bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio υ and anisotropy value A) were calculated, and brittleness of Al3Nb was discussed in detail. Besides, the electronic structure of tetragonal Al3Nb was studied, which indicates a mixture of metallic bond and covalent bond in Al3Nb and reveals the underlying mechanism of the stability and elastic properties of Al3Nb. Finally, the thermodynamic properties of Al3Nb were calculated and the physical properties such as heat capacity and Debye temperature were predicted within the quasi-harmonic approximation.  相似文献

The phase transition of gallium phosphide (GaP) from zinc-blende (ZB) to a rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT). Lattice constant a0, elastic constants cij, bulk modulus B0 and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0' are calculated. The results are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. From the usual condition of equal enthalpies, the phase transition from the ZB to the RS structure occurs at 21.9 GPa, which is close to the experimental value of 22.0 GPa. The elastic properties of GaP with the ZB structure in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 21.9 GPa and those of the RS structure in a pressure range of pressures from 21.9 GPa to 40 GPa are obtained. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, the normalized volume V/V0, the Debye temperature θ, the heat capacity Cv and the thermal expansion coefficient α are also discussed in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 40 GPa and a temperature range from 0 K to 1500 K.  相似文献

We investigate the elastic and the thermodynamic properties of nanolaminate V2GeC by using the ab initio pseudopotential total energy method. The axial compressibility shows that the c axis is always stiffer than the a axis. The elastic constant calculations demonstrate that the structural stability is within 0-800 GPa. The calculations of Young's and shear moduli reveal the softening behaviour at about 300 GPa. The Possion ratio makes a higher ionic or a weaker covalent contribution to intra-atomic bonding and the degree of ionicity increases with pressure. The relationship between brittleness and ductility shows that V2GeC is brittle in ambient conditions and the brittleness decreases and ductility increases with pressure. Moveover, we find that V2GeC is largely isotropic in compression and in shear, and the degree of isotropy decreases with pressure. The Gr黱eisen parameter, the Debye temperature and the thermal expansion coefficient are also successfully obtained for the first time.  相似文献

<正>The elastic and thermodynamic properties of NbN at high pressures and high temperatures are investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory(DFT).The generalized gradient approximation(GGA) with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof(PBE) method is used to describe the exchange-correlation energy in the present work. The calculated equilibrium lattice constant a0,bulk modulus B0,and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0’ of NbN with rocksalt structure are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. The elastic properties over a range of pressures from 0 to 80.4 GPa are obtained.Isotropic wave velocities and anisotropic elasticity of NbN are studied in detail. It is indicated that NbN is highly anisotropic in both longitudinal and shear-wave velocities. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model,in which the phononic effect is considered, the relations of(V-V0)/V0 to the temperature and the pressure, and the relations of the heat capacity CV and the thermal expansion coefficientαto temperature are discussed in a pressure range from 0 to 80.4 GPa and a temperature range from 0 to 2500 K.At low temperature,CV is proportional to T3 and tends to the Dulong-Petit limit at higher temperature. We predict that the thermal expansion coefficientαof NbN is about 4.20×10-6/K at 300 K and 0 GPa.  相似文献

Numerical calculations based on the full potential muffin-tin orbitals method (FP-LMTO) within the local density approximation (LDA) and the local spin-density approximation (LSDA) to investigate the structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of filled skutterudite EuFe4Sb12 are presented. The electronic band structure and density of states profiles prove that this material is a conductor. The present investigation is also extended to the elastic constants, such as the bulk modulus B, anisotropy factor A, shear modulus G, young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio ν, and the B/G ratio with pressure in the range of 0–40 GPa. The sound velocities and Debye temperatures are also predicted from the above constants. The variations of the primitive cell volume, expansion coefficient α, bulk modulus B, heat capacity (Cp and Cv), Debye temperature θD, Helmholtz free energy A, Gibbs free energy G, entropy S, and internal energy U with pressure and temperature in the range 0–3000 K are calculated successfully.  相似文献

Nanostructured topological insulator materials such as ultrathin films, nanoplates, nanowires, and nanoribbons are attracting much attention for fundamental research as well as potential applications in low-energy dissipation electronics, spintronics, thermoelectrics, magnetoelectrics, and quantum computing due to their extremely large surface-to-volume ratios and exotic metallic edge/surface states. Layered Bi2Se3 and Bi2Te3 serve as reference topological insulator materials with a large nontrivial bulk gap up to 0.3 eV (equivalent to 3600 K) and simple single-Dirac-cone surface states. In this mini-review, we present an overview of recent advances in nanostructured topological insulator Bi2Se3 and Bi3Te3 from the viewpoints of controlled synthesis and physical properties. We summarize our recent achievements in the vapor-phase synthesis and structural characterization of nanostructured topological insulator Bi2Se3 and Bi2Te3, such as nanoribbons and ultrathin nanoplates. We also demonstrate the evolution of Raman spectra with the number of few-layer topological insulators, as well as the transport measurements that have succeeded in accessing the surface conductance and surface state manipulations in the device of topological insulator nanostructures.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic properties and Debye temperature of Ni3Ta under different pressures are investigated using the first-principles method based on density functional theory. Our calculated equilibrium lattice parameters at 0 GPa well agree with the experimental and previous theoretical results. The calculated negative formation enthalpies and elastic constants both indicate that Ni3Ta is stable under different pressures. The bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E and Poisson’s ratio ν are calculated by the Voigt–Reuss–Hill method. The bigger ratio of B/G indicates Ni3Ta is ductile and the pressure can improve the ductility of Ni3Ta. In addition, the results of density of states and the charge density difference show that the stability of Ni3Ta is improved by the increasing pressure. The Debye temperature Θ D calculated from elastic modulus increases along with the pressure.  相似文献
