The first-principles calculations are employed to provide a fundamental understanding of the structural features and relative thermodynamical, mechanical and phonon stability of TiAsTe compound. The calculated lattice parameters are in good agreement with available experimental results. We have computed elastic constants, its derived moduli and ratios that characterize mechanical properties for the first time. The calculated elastic constants indicate that these materials are mechanically stable at ambient condition. The minimum thermal conductivities of TiAsTe are calculated using both Clarke’s model and Cahill’s model. Furthermore, the elastic anisotropy has been visualized in detail by plotting the directional dependence of compressibility, Young’s modulus and shear modulus. Our results suggest strong elastic anisotropy for this compound. Additionally, the phonon spectra and phonon density of states are also obtained and discussed. The full phonon dispersion calculations confirm the dynamic stability of TiAsTe.  相似文献

The structural, mechanical, and phonon properties of NbRuB, TaRuB, and NbOsB compounds with orthorhombic space groups Pmma (No. 51) and Pbam (No. 55) are investigated by using first-principles calculations. The elastic constants and moduli, Debye temperature, Poisson’s ration, Pugh’s ratio, elastic anisotropy factors, and minimum thermal conductivities have been predicted to understand the mechanical behavior of these ternary compounds. The mechanical anisotropy is discussed via several anisotropy indices and two-dimensional (2D) surface constructions. We observe that all compounds ought to be classified as ductile materials and exhibit elastically anisotropy. Their mechanical and dynamical stability is confirmed via the calculated elastic constants and phonon dispersion curves, respectively. This work should provide a useful guide for designing ternary boride materials that have excellent thermoelectric performance.  相似文献

We have performed the first-principles linear response calculations of the lattice dynamics, thermal equation of state and thermodynamical properties of hcp Os metal by using the plane-wave pseudopotential method. The thermodynamical properties are deduced from the calculated Helmholtz free energy by taking into account the electronic contribution and lattice vibrational contribution. The phonon frequencies at Gamma point are consistent with experimental values and the dispersion curves at various pressures have been determined. The calculated volume, bulk modulus and their pressure derivatives as a function of temperature are in excellent agreement with the experimental results. The calculated specific heat indicates that the electronic contribution is important not only at very low temperatures but also at high temperatures due to the electronic thermal excitation. The calculated Debye temperature at a very low temperature is in good agreement with experimental values and drops to a constant until 100~K.  相似文献

The structural vibrational, thermodynamical, and optical properties of potentially technologically important, weakly coupled MAX compound, Sc2 Al C are calculated using density functional theory(DFT). The structural properties of Sc_2AlC are compared with the results reported earlier. The vibrational, thermodynamical, and optical properties are theoretically estimated for the first time. The phonon dispersion curve is calculated and the dynamical stability of this compound is investigated. The optical and acoustic modes are observed clearly. We calculate the Helmholtz free energy(F), internal energy(E), entropy(S), and specific heat capacity(Cv) from the phonon density of states. Various optical parameters are also calculated. The reflectance spectrum shows that this compound has the potential to be used as an efficient solar reflector.  相似文献

The structural, electronic, vibrational and thermodynamical properties of transition metal carbides RuC, RhC, PdC and AgC are investigated using the plane-wave pseudopotentials method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). There is a good agreement between present theoretical and available experimental theoretical data in the case of ground state properties such as lattice parameter and bulk modulus. The electronic band structure of these compounds show that all compounds except RuC in zinc blende phase are metallic in nature. RuC in zinc blende phase is semiconducting in nature with an indirect band gap. The phonon properties of RhC, PdC and AgC are investigated for the first time. The phonon frequencies in the phonon dispersion curves are positive throughout the Brillouin zone for zinc blende RuC and AgC and rocksalt RhC and PdC indicating dynamical stability for these compounds in the said phases. Temperature variation of thermodynamical properties for noble metal carbides are calculated and discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

The nodal-line semimetals are new and very promising materials for technological applications. To understand their structural, mechanical, lattice dynamical and thermal properties in detail, we have investigated theoretical study of ZrXY (X = Si,Ge; Y = S,Se) using Density Functional Theory for the first time. Obtained lattice parameters are in excellent agreement with previous experimental data. These nodal-line semimetals obey the mechanical stability conditions for tetragonal structure. We obtain Bulk modulus, Shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio, Pugh ratio, sound velocities and thermal conductivity using elastic constant. All the materials behave in brittle manner. Poisson’s ratio data and Bader charge analysis results indicate that the ionic bonding characters are dominant. Next, the lattice dynamical properties are calculated. Phonon density of states shows that nodal-line semimetals ZrXY are also dynamically stable in the tetragonal structure. Raman and IR active phonon modes are determined. Highest optical mode at gamma point corresponds to A2u (IR active) and Eg (Raman active) modes for ZrXSe and ZrXS, respectively. Based on phonon density of states, thermal properties such as Helmholtz free energy, entropy, heat capacity at constant volume and Debye temperature are also presented and discussed.  相似文献

Using first-principles calculations, we have studied the structural, lattice dynamical and thermodynamical properties of the recently synthesized Re2N and Re3N compounds. The generalized gradient approximation is used to model exchange-correlation effects. The phonon dispersion curves are derived using the direct method. The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters are in overall agreement with the available experimental and theoretical results. The present phonon dispersion results show that both compounds are dynamically stable for the structures considered. The temperature-dependent behavior of thermodynamical properties, such as free energy, entropy, heat capacity, and internal energy, is also presented.  相似文献

We have studied structural, elastic, thermodynamic (Debye temperature and melting temperature), and lattice dynamical (phonon dispersion curves, heat capacity, and entropy) properties of CaX via ab initio calculations within the local density approximations. The results are compared with the available experimental and other theoretical data, and the agreement is, generally, quite good. We also predict the temperature and/or pressure-dependent behaviors of some mechanical, lattice dynamical, and thermodynamic properties for the same compounds.  相似文献

Surface charges can modify the elastic modulus of nanostructure, leading to the change of the phonon and thermal properties in semiconductor nanostructure. In this work, the influence of surface charges on the phonon properties and phonon thermal conductivity of GaN nanofilm are quantitatively investigated. In the framework of continuum mechanics, the modified elastic modulus can be derived for the nanofilm with surface charges. The elastic model is presented to analyze the phonon properties such as the phonon dispersion relation, phonon group velocity, density of states of phonons in nanofilm with the surface charges. The phonon thermal conductivity of nanofilm can be obtained by considering surface charges. The simulation results demonstrate that surface charges can significantly change the phonon properties and thermal conductivity in a GaN nanofilm. Positive surface charges reduce the phonon energy and phonon group velocity but increase the density of states of phonons. The surface charges can change the size and temperature dependence of phonon thermal conductivity of GaN nanofilm. Based on these theoretical results, one can adjust the phonon properties and temperature/size dependent thermal conductivity in GaN nanofilm by changing the surface charges.  相似文献

An ab initio pseudopotential plane wave method using linear response approach has been employed to study the lattice dynamics of two cubic antiperovskites AsNBa3 and SbNBa3. The bulk properties, elastic constants, phonon dispersion curves, phonon density of states and temperature dependent thermodynamic quantities of both antiperovskites are obtained. The calculated lattice constants, elastic and bulk properties are compared with the available theoretical data. This is the first systematic and quantitative prediction of phonon and thermodynamical properties of these antiperovskite compounds.  相似文献

Inelastic neutron scattering measurements were carried out to determine the phonon density of states of ZnSe and interpreted with lattice dynamical computations (ab initio as well as a potential model). Calculations are also reported for other II-VI compounds, ZnTe and ZnS. Vibrational (phonon spectra and Grüneisen parameters), and thermal (negative thermal expansion and non-Debye specific heat) properties have been calculated and found to be in good agreement with available experimental data. This model has been further employed to study the pressure-induced solid-solid phase transitions exhibited by these compounds and the results have been compared with experimental data. Total energy calculations for zincblende and SC16 phases of ZnSe were carried out employing the pseudopotential approach under the local density approximation (LDA) as well as the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The density functional perturbation theory is applied to study the vibrational properties of the zincblende and SC16 phases of ZnSe. An investigation of the pressure dependence of the phonon frequencies shows that the existence of the (experimentally undetected) SC16 phase as a thermodynamically stable high pressure phase is impeded due to dynamical instabilities. A detailed investigation of the polarization of phonons of different energies for the various phases of these compounds indicates that in the case of the zincblende phase the low energy modes are librational, while in the rocksalt phase the low energy modes are bending modes. Further, in ZnTe the low energy bending modes display a larger amplitude of bending than that in ZnSe and ZnS.  相似文献

The structures under different pressures, elastic properties, electronic structures and lattice vibrations of the X_2N_2O(X = C, Si, Ge) compounds are investigated by using the first-principle method. Based on the phonon density of state, the thermodynamic properties of the present compounds are studied under different pressures and at different temperatures. The structural parameters including the bond lengths and bond angles are in agreement with available experimental measurements and theoretical calculations. We employ the elastic theory to calculate the nine independent elastic constants(C_(ij)) and the derived elastic moduli(B, G, E, v). Results indicate that these X_2N_2O(X = C, Si, Ge) compounds are mechanically stable and show the brittle behaviors. The electronic properties of the present compounds are analyzed by using the band structure and density of states. The phonon dispersion calculations imply that the present compounds are dynamically stable. Based on the quasi-harmonic approximation, the calculations of the specific heat indicate that the temperature in a range of 0 K–1500 K and pressure in a range of 0 GPa–40 GPa have a large effect on the thermal quantities of Ge_2N_2O,compared with on those of the C_2N_2O and Si_2N_2O compounds.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic, optical, and vibrational properties of the orthorhombic Pd2Ga compound are investigated using the norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation in the frame of density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters have been compared with the experimental values and found to be in good agreement with these results. The second-order elastic constants and the other relevant quantities, such as the Young’s modulus, shear modulus,Poisson’s ratio, anisotropy factor, sound velocity, and Debye temperature, have been calculated. It is shown that this compound is mechanically stable after analysing the calculated elastic constants.Furthermore, the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function and the optical constants, such as the optical dielectric constant and the effective number of electrons per unit cell, are calculated and presented. The phonon dispersion curves are derived using the direct method. The present results demonstrate that this compound is dynamically stable.  相似文献

In order to investigate the mechanism of the electron and phonon transport in a silicon nanotube(SiNT),the electronic structures, the lattice dynamics, and the thermoelectric properties of bulk silicon(bulk Si)and a SiNT have been calculated in this work using density functional theory and Boltzmann transport theory. Our results suggest that the thermal conductivity of a SiNT is reduced by a factor of 1,while its electrical conductivity is improved significantly, although the Seebeck coefficient is increased slightly as compared to those of the bulk Si.As a consequence, the figure of merit(ZT)of a SiNT at 1200 K is enhanced by 12 times from 0.08 for bulk Si to 1.10.The large enhancement in electrical conductivity originates from the largely increased density of states at the Fermi energy level and the obviously narrowed band gap.The significant reduction in thermal conductivity is ascribed to the remarkably suppressed phonon thermal conductivity caused by a weakened covalent bonding,a decreased phonon density of states,a reduced phonon vibration frequency,as well as a shortened mean free path of phonons. The other factors influencing the thermoelectric properties have also been studied from the perspective of electronic structures and lattice dynamics.  相似文献

The structural, dielectric, lattice-dynamical, and thermodynamical properties of isotopic lithium hydrides (6LiH, 6LiD, 6LiT, 7LiH, 7LiD, and 7LiT) were investigated within density-functional theory. The atomic structure was fully relaxed and the structural parameters were found to differ by less than 2% from the experimental data. The associated electronic band structure and density of states were also presented. A linear-response approach to the density-functional perturbation theory was employed to work out the Born effective charges, dielectric tensors and phonon frequencies, and thermodynamic properties. The compounds with the heavier Li isotope or H isotope have the lower phonon frequencies; 6LiT is more stable than 7LiT, 6LiD, 7LiD, 6LiH, and 7LiH in the temperature range 0-2700 K. These properties of LiT were predicted for the first time. The results were discussed in terms of the isotope effects on phonon dispersion curves and thermodynamic properties.  相似文献

Self-consistent band calculations on four intermetallic compounds of the CsCl structure are presented. The calculations were performed employing the self-consistent ultrasoft pseudopotential method based on the density functional theory, within the local density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation. The calculations predicted that the equilibrium lattice constants are in excellent agreement with the experiment for CoAl and are 1% smaller than experimental values for CoBe, CoSc and CoZr, respectively. In the present study, ordered CoAl do not show any magnetic moment, whereas the other three compounds have moderate magnetic moments of about 0.2 and 0.7 Bohr magnetons (μB ) per atom. The elastic constants are calculated using two approaches, the energy-strain method and the use of phonon dispersion curves. The values obtained from the two methods are in reasonable agreement for the studied intermetallic compounds CoZ (Z?=?Al, Be, Sc and Zr). The brittleness and ductility properties of CoZ (Z?=?Al, Be, Sc and Zr) are determined by Poisson’s ratio σ criterion and Pugh’s criterion. The calculated elastic constants satisfy the mechanical stability criterion and the ductility of CoZr and CoSc is predicted by Pugh’s criterion. The band structure and density of states, and phonon dispersion curves have been obtained and compared with the available experimental results as well as with existing theoretical calculations. We studied and discussed the position of Fermi level for the selected four intermetallic compounds.  相似文献

The phase stability and mechanical properties of B2 type IrX (X=Al, Sc and Ga) compounds are investigated. Self-consistenttotal-energy calculations in the framework of density functional theory using the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA) to determine the equations of state and the elastic constants of IrX (X=Al, Sc, and Ga) in the B2 phase have been performed. The calculations predicted the equilibrium lattice constants, which are about 1% greater than experiments for IrAl, 1.81% for IrGa, and 0.71% for IrSc compound. IrAl is shown to be the least compressible, and it is followed by IrGa and the IrSc compound. The phase stability of the studied compounds is checked. The brittleness and ductility properties of IrX (X=Al, Sc, and Ga) are determined by Poisson's ratio σ criterion and Pugh's criterion. IrGa compound is a ductile material; however, IrAl and IrSc show brittleness. The band structure and density of states (DOS), and phonon dispersion curves have been obtained and analyzed. The position of the Fermi level and the contribution of d electrons to the density of states near EF is studied and discussed in detail. We also used the phonon density of states and quasiharmonic approximation to calculate and predict some thermodynamic properties such as constant-volume specific heat capacity of the B2 phase of IrX (X=Al, Sc and Ga) compounds.  相似文献

<正>Within the framework of the quasiharmonic approximation, the thermodynamics and elastic properties of Ta, including phonon density of states(DOS),equation of state, linear thermal expansion coefficient, entropy, enthalpy, heat capacity, elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus,Young’s modulus, microhardness, and sound velocity, are studied using the first-principles projector-augmented wave method. The vibrational contribution to Helmholtz free energy is evaluated from the first-principles phonon DOS and the Debye model. The thermal electronic contribution to Helmholtz free energy is estimated from the integration over the electronic DOS.By comparing the experimental results with the calculation results from the first-principles and the Debye model,it is found that the thermodynamic properties of Ta are depicted well by the first-principles.The elastic properties of Ta from the first-principles are consistent with the available experimental data.  相似文献

We have investigated the structural, mechanical and lattice dynamical properties of ZrW2 and HfW2 compounds in cubic C15 (space group Fd-3m), hexagonal C14 (space group P63/mmc) and C36 (space group P63/mmc) phases using generalized gradient approximation within the plane-wave pseudo-potential density functional theory. We have found that ZrW2 and HfW2 in cubic C15 phase are the most stable among the considered phases. From calculated elastic constants, it is shown that all phases are mechanically stable according to the elastic stability criteria. The related mechanical properties, such as bulk, shear and Young moduli, Poisson’s ratio, Debye temperature and hardness have been also calculated. The results show that ZrW2 and HfW2 compounds are ductile in nature with respect to the B/G and Cauchy pressure analysis. The phonon dispersion curves, phonon density of states and some thermodynamic properties are computed and discussed exhaustively for considered phases.  相似文献
