Based on the conjugate point theory in calculus of variations, the extensibility effects on the stability of Euler elasticas with one clamped end and the other clamped in rotation in the post-buckling are investigated. For a slender rod, it is shown that: (1) the buckling load is a little bigger than Euler critical load, (2) the addition of extensibility to the elastica does not affect its stability in the post-buckling, in the sense that those Euler elasticas with one inflexion point are stable while those Euler elasticas with more than one inflexion point are unstable.  相似文献

This study deals with the post-buckling behavior of an inextensible elastic prismatic cantilevered column of length L which is loaded by a cable attached at the tip of the cantilever and at mid-length and terminate at the fixed support. The post-buckling behavior of the column–cable system is solved analytically in terms of elliptic integrals using the principle of elastic similarity.It was shown that for a given prescribed angle of inclination for the lower segment of the cable, four equilibrium configurations exist with two of these are of symmetrical type. Moreover, in order to generalize the present study for n-segment column, the case of the three-segment column has been investigated. For such case, the results showed that eight post-buckling equilibrium configurations existed with four of these configurations as a symmetrical type. This study has several interesting engineering applications in ultra-lightweight aerospace engineering such as in solar sails technology, flexible robotics arms, biomedical instrumentation and it can be used as a flexible fixing rod in space technology.  相似文献

We propose a wavelet method in the present study to analyze the large deflection bending and post-buckling problems of rods composed of non-linearly elastic materials, which are governed by a class of strong non-linear differential equations. This wavelet method is established based on a modified wavelet approximation of an interval bounded L2-function, which provides a new method for the large deflection bending and post-buckling problems of engineering structures. As an example, in this study, we considered the rod structures of non-linear materials that obey the Ludwick and the modified Ludwick constitutive laws. The numerical results for both large deflection bending and post-buckling problems are presented, illustrating the convergence and accuracy of the wavelet method. For the former, the wavelet solutions are more accurate than the finite element method and the shooting method embedded with the Euler method. For the latter, both bifurcation and limit loads can be easily and directly obtained by solving the extended systems. On the other hand, for the shooting method embedded with Runge–Kutta method, to obtain these values usually needs to choose a good starting value and repeat trial solutions many times, which can be a tough task.  相似文献

The large-deflection analysis and post-buckling behavior of laterally braced or unbraced slender beam-columns of symmetrical cross section subjected to end loads (forces and moments) with both ends partially restrained against rotation, including the effects of out-of-plumbness, are developed in a classical manner. The classical theory of the “Elastica” and the corresponding elliptical functions utilized herein are those presented previously by Aristizabal-Ochoa [1]. The proposed method can be used in the large-deflection analysis and post-buckling behavior of elastic slender beam-columns with rigid, semi-rigid, and simple flexural connections at both ends including linear and non-linear inelastic connections like those that suffer from flexural degradation (such as flexural cracking and elasto-plastic connections) or flexural stiffening. Only bending strains are considered in the proposed analysis. Results from the proposed method are theoretically exact from small to very large curvatures and transverse and longitudinal displacements for laterally braced or unbraced slender beam-columns under bending caused by end loads. The large-deflection analysis and post-buckling behavior of slender beam-columns with both supports partially restrained against rotation and with sway inhibited or uninhibited are complex problems requiring the simultaneous solution of two coupled non-linear equations with elliptical integrals whose unknowns are the limits of the integrals. The validity of the proposed method and equations are verified against solutions available in the technical literature. Three comprehensive examples are included that show the effects of linear and non-linear connections at both ends on the large-deflection analysis and post-buckling behavior of slender beam-columns.  相似文献

The non-linear governing differential equations of immovably simply supported functionally graded material (FGM) rod subjected to thermal loads were derived. The thermal post-buckling behaviors of FGM rod made of ZrO2 and Ti-6Al-4Vwere analyzed by shooting method. Firstly, the thermal post-buckling equilibrium paths of the FGM rod with different gradient index in the uniform temperature field were plotted, and compared with the behaviors of the homogeneous rods made of ZrO2 and Ti-6A1-4V materials, respectively. For given value of end rotation angles, the influence of gradient index on the thermal post-buckling behaviors of FGM rod was discussed. Secondly, the thermal post-buckling characteristics of the FGM rod were analyzed when the temperature difference parameter is changed while the bottom temperature parameter remains constant, and when the bottom temperature parameter is changed while the temperature difference parameter remains constant, and compared with the characteristics of the two homogeneous material rods.  相似文献

为了有效完成大型铰接单层网壳结构的后屈曲分析,本文采用对杆单元杆端力函数求导的方法推导出了等直杆单元切线刚度矩阵的精确形式。该切线刚度矩阵不受结构小变形限制,适用于结构产生任意大结点位移情况。以六角星桁架、平面圆拱桁架和大跨K8单层网壳结构为算例,采用广义位移控制法进行非线性后屈曲分析,其中预测子采用本文杆单元切线刚度矩阵。算例分析结果表明,本文杆单元切线刚度矩阵在大型铰接单层网壳结构的非线性后屈曲分析中有很强的预测能力。  相似文献

对于铅直圆筒内受交变拉压轴向载荷作用的细长杆柱,当杆柱底端所受到的轴向压力大于杆柱屈曲的临界载荷时,细长杆柱在圆筒内将产生螺旋屈曲,杆柱的屈曲变形将激励杆柱在圆筒内产生横向振动。以细长杆在圆筒内的瞬时屈曲构型作为杆柱横向振动的位移激励,建立了屈曲位移激励下的细长杆在圆筒内横向振动与杆管碰撞规律的仿真模型。采用有限差分法对井深进行离散,Newmark 法对时间进行离散,以恢复系数法建立了细长杆和圆筒的碰撞条件,对细长杆在圆筒内的横向振动数学模型进行了数值仿真。仿真结果表明,细长杆和圆筒内壁的碰撞现象主要发生在细长杆底端受压发生屈曲后,且几乎沿整个圆筒都有发生,从圆筒顶部至底部的碰撞力峰值逐渐增大;而在杆柱底端受拉时碰撞现象很少,碰撞力也较小。  相似文献

The effective width concept has been widely used in engineering practice for the computation of ultimate strength of slender members. Many design codes employ this concept in order to compensate for the stiffness reduction in the post-buckling state. Extensive work was done to develop effective width equations for plates under uniform compression, while little attention has been given for plates under non-homogeneous in-plane loading. North American, British and European design codes provide only expressions for the computation of the elastic buckling loads for plates under this load combination, while the effective width calculation is based on the uniformly compressed plates. It will be shown that due to the non-uniformity of the applied load, the stress characteristics in the post-buckling state are different from the uniform compression case, thus requiring special treatments. The paper presents analytical closed form expressions for the computation of effective width of thin plates under non-homogeneous in-plane loading. The longitudinal edges are assumed to be straight and free to translate in the plane of the plate. The proposed expressions are very useful for limit state design of slender I-sections of beam columns or channel sections under this general type of loading. They enable the designers to compute the effective width of the section with the aid of simple formulas that, for design purposes, are suitable for hand-calculation and avoid the cost and effort that any numerical non-linear analysis may require.  相似文献

This paper deals with a new solution technique for approximately solving certain variational problems in elasticity by using discrete optimization techniques that were originally used in information theory. This allows us to easily and approximately solve large deformation buckling problems for slender cantilever beams (including post-buckling behavior) as well as problems where the strain energy function is non-convex.The core idea is to quantize or discretize the variables describing the possible configurations of the body. This, when combined with the fact that the variational problem has an inherent Markov structure allows us to use computationally efficient search techniques based on dynamic programming (equivalent to finding the shortest path in a weighted directed graph) to find optimal solutions within the quantized state space. The results can be used in two ways: (1) directly as a fast approximate solution to the variational problem (2) As a means for finding very good (nearly minimum energy) initial configurations for application of conventional minimization techniques, which might otherwise fail because of a poor starting configurations which are far from the global minimum. This article presents the behavior of slender elastic rods subjected to axial terminal forces and self-weight. The mathematical formulation is presented, a solution is sought for a double-hinged boundary condition and the analysis is carried out for different values of non-dimensional weight. The formulation derives from geometrical compatibility, equilibrium of forces and moments and constitutive relations yielding a set of six first order non-linear ordinary differential equations with boundary conditions specified at both ends, which characterizes a complex two-point boundary value problem. Furthermore, a perturbation method is used to find the critical buckling loads and initial post-buckling solutions. A numerical integration scheme based on a three parameter shooting method is employed in the post-buckling solutions.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear coupled hydroelastic problem of a general curved and twisted flexible slender structure (i.e. flexible riser, cable system, fish–farm net system, towed arrays, etc.) embedded in a nonuniform flow field such as the ocean environment; the flow direction is arbitrary, relative to the axis of the slender structure. The motion of the elastic structure is coupled with the hydrodynamic loads acting on the slender structure by the ambient flow field. An important input for such hydroelastic problems is the computation of the hydrodynamic loading per unit length experienced by the slender body. A rigorously derived improvement for the inertial loading per unit length over the commonly used Morison-type semi-empirical force (originally obtained for straight long structures in a uniform stream) is used. The structure is also allowed to undergo small (yet finite) deflections from its original reference central-line, due to a particular model of intrinsic elasticity governed by a corresponding nonlinear PDE, which corresponds to the well-known Kirchhoff rod elastic model. The system of coupled hydroelastic equations is investigated in order to derive analytically the influence of the hydrodynamic loading in a uniform stationary stream on the nonlinear stability of the straight rod. It is found that the presence of an ambient stationary stream decreases the critical parameters (critical twist) of the buckling phenomenon which is known to exist for the same rod when placed in a vacuum. Also revealed is a new type of stability loss, which is affected by viscous effects.  相似文献

This paper attempts to investigate the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of piezoelectric nanoplate based on the nonlocal Mindlin plate model and von Karman geometric nonlinearity. An external electric voltage and a uniform temperature rise are applied on the piezoelectric nanoplate. Both the uniaxial and biaxial mechanical compression forces will be considered in the buckling and post-buckling analysis. By substituting the energy functions into the equation of the minimum total potential energy principle,the governing equations are derived directly, and then discretized through the differential quadrature(DQ) method. The buckling and post-buckling responses of piezoelectric nanoplates are calculated by employing a direct iterative method under different boundary conditions. The numerical results are presented to show the influences of different factors including the nonlocal parameter, electric voltage,and temperature rise on the buckling and post-buckling responses.  相似文献

The paper presents a procedure for the analysis of stability and initial post-buckling behaviour of spliced columns in sway and non-sway steel frames. The main assumptions are linear elasticity and geometrically perfect columns that are loaded by a compressive force which retains its direction as the column deflects. An energy-based formulation that includes a polynomial Rayleigh–Ritz approximation into the potential energy function, in combination with the Lagrange’s method of undetermined multipliers, has been found very convenient for this type of problem. The system is thus described by a set of kinematically admissible generalized coordinates and a single loading parameter. First, the critical state is characterized by means of linear eigenvalue analysis. A parametric study is implemented to assess the critical load. The numerical results are used to develop a relatively simple yet reasonably accurate engineering method for predicting the critical behaviour of spliced columns in sway and non-sway steel frames. The energy formulation is then applied to the search of post-buckling branches of bifurcation points. The approach embraces path-following methods based on perturbation schemes built on a Newton type iterative procedure. This is illustrated in the application to post-bifurcation in columns with different splice mechanical characteristics. The findings suggest that the splice tangent stiffness has a major influence on the overall column behaviour.  相似文献

While studies of post-buckling behavior and load-carrying capacities of thin plates subjected to uniaxial compression have been limited to stable conditions, further post-buckling loading generates an unstable condition. The secondary buckling which occurs with snap-through to higher-order deflections under such unstable conditions has not been analyzed in detail as yet. In the first part of this paper, a thin square plate under uniaxial compression, which is simply supported along four edges, is considered. A method based on the second variation of the total potential energy is then proposed for evaluating the stability of the post-buckling equilibrium state and inevitable secondary buckling is derived analytically. The effects of various factors, such as initial imperfections, assumed virtual displacement pattern, post-buckling deflection pattern and in-plane boundary conditions, on the secondary buckling values are discussed. In part 2, secondary buckling of clamped plates is analyzed by use of the finite element method and the resultant numerical results are compared with experimental results.  相似文献
