We give the solution of the Delsarte extremal problem for even entire functions of exponential type that are Jacobi transforms and prove the uniqueness of the extremal function. The quadrature Markov formula on the half-line with zeros of the modified Jacobi function are used.  相似文献

We find the polynomials of the best one-sided approximation to the Heaviside and sign functions. The polynomials are obtained by Hermite interpolation at the zeros of some Jacobi polynomials. The multivariate extremal index function is a direction specific extension of the well-known univariate extremal index. Since statistical inference on this function is difficult it is desirable to have a broad characterization of its attributes. We extend the set of common properties of the multivariate extremal index function and derive sharp bounds for the entire function given only marginal dependence. Our results correspond to certain restrictions on the two dependence functions defining the multivariate extremal index, which are opposed to Smith and Weissman’s (1996) conjecture on arbitrary dependence functions. We show further how another popular dependence measure, the extremal coefficient, is closely related to the multivariate extremal index. Thus, given the value of the former it turns out that the above bounds may be improved substantially. Conversely, we specify improved bounds for the extremal coefficient itself that capitalize on marginal dependence, thereby approximating two views of dependence that have frequently been treated separately. Our results are completed with example processes.   相似文献

We use Jacobi theta functions to construct examples of Jacobi forms over number fields. We determine the behavior under modular transformations by regarding certain coefficients of the Jacobi theta functions as specializations of symplectic theta functions. In addition, we show how sums of those Jacobi theta functions appear as a single coefficient of a symplectic theta function.  相似文献

In this paper, an extremal function of a Banach space of analytic functions in the unit disk (not all functions vanishing at 0) is a function solving the extremal problem for functions f of norm 1. We study extremal functions of kernels of Toeplitz operators on Hardy spaces Hp, 1<p<∞. Such kernels are special cases of so-called nearly invariant subspaces with respect to the backward shift, for which Hitt proved that when p=2, extremal functions act as isometric divisors. We show that the extremal function is still a contractive divisor when p<2 and an expansive divisor when p>2 (modulo p-dependent multiplicative constants). We give examples showing that the extremal function may fail to be a contractive divisor when p>2 and also fail to be an expansive divisor when p<2. We discuss to what extent these results characterize the Toeplitz operators via invariant subspaces for the backward shift.  相似文献

We introduce a class of action integrals defined over probability measure-valued path space. We show that extremal point of such action exits and satisfies a type of compressible Euler equation in a weak sense. Moreover, we prove that both Cauchy and resolvent formulations of the associated Hamilton–Jacobi equations, in the space of probability measures, are well-posed.  相似文献

The study of sharp Sobolev inequalities starts with the notion of best constant and leads naturally to the question to know whether or not there exist extremal functions for these inequalities. We restrict ourselves in this paper to the -Sobolev inequality. Then, we extend the notion of best constant to that of critical function, and, with the help of this notion, we answer the question to know whether or not there exist extremal functions for the sharp -Sobolev inequality. Partial answers to the more general question to know whether or not an extremal function always comes with a critical function are also given. We obtain a characterization of local Besov spaces of functions on [-1,1] in terms of algebraic polynomial operators. These operators are constructed using the coefficients in the orthogonal polynomial expansions of the functions involved. The example of Jacobi polynomials is studied in further detail. A by-product of our proofs is an apparently simple proof of the fact that the Cesàro means of a sufficiently high integer order of the Jacobi expansion of a continuous function are uniformly bounded.  相似文献

The form of the Schiffer differential equation puts severe restrictions on the class of functions that can occur as extremal functions for arbitrary coefficient-functionals of finite degree. Theorem 1 characterizes the algebraic extremal functions for coefficient-functionals of finite degree. Furthermore it is shown that the extremal function either is an algebraic function or it must possess a non-isolated singularity, or must have a transcendental branch-point. The results are closely related to the Malmquist-Yosida theorems. However Nevanlinna's Theory of Value Distribution is not the mainly used tool but the special form of the Schiffer differential equation and the multiplicity of certain values together with the Great Picard Theorem are exploited.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to present solutions to constrained finite-horizon optimal control problems with linear systems, and the cost functional of the problem is in a general form. According to the Pontryagin’s maximum principle, the extremal control of such problem is a function of the costate trajectory, but an implicit function. We here develop the canonical backward differential flows method and then give the extremal control explicitly with the costate trajectory by canonical backward differential flows. Moreover, there exists an optimal control if and only if there exists a unique extremal control. We give the proof of the existence of the optimal solution for this optimal control problem with Green functions.  相似文献

We obtain an inequality on a measure of the spread in time of periodic functions that are ε-concentrated in frequency, i.e. all but a fixed finite number of Fourier coefficients vanish with mean-squared error up to ε. We characterize an extremal function and give an asymptotic formula for the measure of spread of this extremal function as ε approaches 0. We also consider the corresponding problem for functions on the real line that are ε-concentrated in time or frequency. When ε=0, the above reduce to inequalities on time-limited or band-limited functions and these are discussed in more detail. We establish the general form of extremal cubature formulas on multidimensional spheres. The domains of definition for the cubature formulas under consideration are Sobolev-type spaces on the sphere. The smoothness of the class function under study may be fractional. We prove that, for a given set of nodes, there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the set of extremal functions of cubature formulas on the sphere and the set of natural spherical splines with zero spherical mean.  相似文献

We investigate monotonicity properties of extremal zeros of orthogonal polynomials depending on a parameter. Using a functional analysis method we prove the monotonicity of extreme zeros of associated Jacobi, associated Gegenbauer and q-Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials. We show how these results can be applied to prove interlacing of zeros of orthogonal polynomials with shifted parameters and to determine optimally localized polynomials on the unit ball.  相似文献
