Two-photon circular dichroism spectra calculated within an origin-invariant density functional theory approximation in the absorption region where the lowest electronic excited states appear are presented for all 19 essential amino acids in the gas phase. A comparison of intensities and characteristic features is made with the corresponding two-photon absorption and one-photon circular dichroism spectra for each species. Also, the contributions of the electric dipole, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole transitions to the rotational strengths are analyzed in some detail. The remarkable fingerprinting capabilities of the two-photon circular dichroism spectroscopy are highlighted.  相似文献

The VUV absorption spectrum of fenchone is re-examined using synchrotron radiation Fourier transform spectrometry, revealing new vibrational structure. Picosecond laser (2+1) resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectroscopy complements this, providing an alternative view of the 3spd Rydberg excitation region. These spectra display broadly similar appearance, with minor differences that are largely explained by referring to calculated one- and two-photon electronic excitation cross-sections. Both show good agreement with Franck-Condon simulations of the relevant vibrational structures. Parent ion REMPI ionization yields with both femtosecond and picosecond excitation laser pulses are studied as a function of laser polarization and intensity, the latter providing insight into the relative two-photon excitation and one-photon ionization rates. The experimental circular-linear dichroism observed in the parent ion yields varies strongly between the 3s and 3p Rydberg states, in good overall agreement with the calculated two-photon excitation circular-linear dichroism, while corroborating other evidence that the 3pz sub-state plays no more than a very minor role in the (2+1) REMPI spectrum. Vibrationally resolved photoelectron spectra are recorded with picosecond pulse duration (2+1) REMPI at selected intermediate vibrational excitations. The 3s intermediate state displays a very strong Δv=0 propensity on ionization, but the 3p intermediate evidences more complex vibronic dynamics, and we infer some 3p→3s internal conversion prior to ionization.  相似文献

Linear dichroism (LD) absorption spectra of 9,10-anthraquinone and a number of derivatives of C2v symmetry have been recorded using specially produced thick stretched polyenthylene sheets as an anisotropic solvent. The spectra were recorded in the infrared region, which provided very precise information on the relevant properties of the solute orientation distribution. Similarly, absorption spectra were recorded in the visible-ultraviolet region which made a separation of the spectrum into contributions from different excited electronic state symmetries possible. This allows a detailed discussion of transition moment directions and the spectral assignment of the electronic transitions.  相似文献

Resonance Raman and resonance hyper-Raman spectra and excitation profiles have been measured for a "push-pull" donor-acceptor substituted conjugated polyene bearing a julolidine donor group and a nitrophenyl acceptor group, in acetone at excitation wavelengths from 485 to 356 nm (two-photon wavelengths for the nonlinear spectra). These wavelengths span the strong visible to near-UV linear absorption spectrum, which appears to involve at least three different electronic transitions. The relative intensities of different vibrational bands vary considerably across the excitation spectrum, with the hyper-Raman spectra showing greater variation than the linear Raman. A previously derived theory of resonance hyper-Raman intensities is modified to include contributions from purely vibrational levels of the ground electronic state as intermediate states in the two-photon absorption process. These contributions are found to have only a slight effect on the hyper-Rayleigh intensities and profiles, but they significantly influence some of the hyper-Raman profiles. The absorption spectrum and the Raman, hyper-Rayleigh, and hyper-Raman excitation profiles are quantitatively simulated under the assumption that three excited electronic states contribute to the one- and two-photon absorption in this region. The transition centered near 400 nm is largely localized on the nitrophenyl group, while the transitions near 475 and 355 nm are more delocalized.  相似文献

Two-photon-resonant hyper-Raman spectra are reported for three "push-pull" conjugated organic chromophores bearing -NO(2) acceptor groups, two dipolar and one octupolar. The excitation source is an unamplified picosecond mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser tunable from 720 to 950 nm. The linear resonance Raman spectra of the same molecules are measured using excitation from the laser second harmonic. Excitation on resonance with the lowest-lying band in the linear absorption spectrum yields nearly identical resonance Raman and resonance hyper-Raman spectra. However, excitation into a region that appears to contain more than one electronic transition gives rise to different intensity patterns in the linear and nonlinear spectra, indicating that different transitions contribute differently to the one-photon and two-photon oscillator strength. The promise of the hyper-Raman technique for examining electronic transitions that are both one- and two-photon allowed is discussed.  相似文献

Gold clusters protected by 3-mercaptophenylboronic acid (3-MPB) with a mean core diameter of 1.1 nm are successfully isolated, and their absorption, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), and chiroptical responses in metal-based electronic transition regions, which can be induced by surface D-/L-fructose complexation, are examined. It is well-known that MCD basically corresponds to electronic transitions in the absorption spectrum, so simultaneous deconvolution analysis of electronic absorption and MCD spectra of the gold cluster compound is conducted under the constrained requirement that a single set of Gaussian components be used for their fitting. We then find that fructose-induced chiroptical response is explained in terms of the deconvoluted spectra experimentally obtained. We believe this spectral analysis is expected to benefit better understanding of the electronic states and the origin of the optical activity in chiral metal clusters.  相似文献

The effects of a solvent on the two-photon absorption of microsolvated formaldehyde and liquid water have been studied using hybrid coupled-cluster/molecular mechanics (CC/MM) response theory. Both water and formaldehyde were considered solvated in water, where the solvent water molecules were described within the framework of molecular mechanics. Prior to the CC/MM calculations, molecular dynamics simulations were performed on the water/formaldehyde and water/water aggregates and many configurations were generated. By carrying out CC/MM response calculations on the individual configurations, it was possible to obtain statistically averaged results for both the excitation energies and two-photon absorption cross sections. For liquid water, the comparison between one- and two-photon absorption spectra is in good agreement with the experimental data available in the literature. In particular, the lowest energy transition occurring in the one-photon absorption spectrum of water only occurs with a relatively small strength in the two-photon absorption spectrum. This result is important for the interpretation of two-photon absorption data as these results show that in the absence of selection rules that determine which transitions are forbidden, the spectral profile of the two-photon absorption spectrum can be significantly different from the spectral profile of the one-photon absorption spectrum.  相似文献

Thin films of 4-tricyanovinyl-N,N-diethylaniline (TCVA) were prepared for the first time using thermal evaporation technique. The molecular structure and electronic transitions of TCVA films were investigated by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectra. The observed vibrational wavenumbers in FTIR spectra were analysed and assigned to different normal modes of the molecule. UV-vis electronic absorption spectral measurements of TCVA films were analysed to obtain the electronic transitions and optical band gap (E(g)). Other important optical parameters such as molar extinction coefficient (varepsilon(molar)), the oscillator strength (f), and the electric dipole strength (q(2)) were also reported.  相似文献

Resonance Raman and resonance hyper-Raman spectra of the "push-pull" conjugated molecule 1-(4'-dihexylaminostyryl)-4-(4"-nitrostyryl)benzene in acetone have been measured at excitation wavelengths from 485 to 356 nm (two-photon wavelengths for the nonlinear spectra), resonant with the first two bands in the linear absorption spectrum. The theory of resonance hyper-Raman scattering intensities is developed and simplified using assumptions appropriate for intramolecular charge-transfer transitions of large molecules in solution. The absorption spectrum and the Raman, hyper-Rayleigh, and hyper-Raman excitation profiles, all in absolute intensity units, are quantitatively simulated to probe the structures and the one- and two-photon transition strengths of the two lowest-energy allowed electronic transitions. All four spectroscopic observables are reasonably well reproduced with a single set of excited-state parameters. The two lowest-energy, one-photon allowed electronic transitions have fairly comparable one-photon and two-photon transition strengths, but the higher-energy transition is largely localized on the nitrophenyl group while the lower-energy transition is more delocalized.  相似文献

Many squaraines have been observed to exhibit two-photon absorption at transition energies close to those of the lowest energy one-photon electronic transitions. Here, the electronic and vibronic contributions to these low-energy two-photon absorptions are elucidated by performing correlated quantum-chemical calculations on model chromophores that differ in their terminal donor groups (diarylaminothienyl, indolenylidenemethyl, dimethylaminopolyenyl, or 4-(dimethylamino)phenylpolyenyl). For squaraines with diarylaminothienyl and dimethylaminopolyenyl donors and for the longer examples of 4-(dimethylamino)phenylpolyenyl donors, the calculated energies of the lowest two-photon active states approach those of the lowest energy one-photon active (1B(u)) states. This is consistent with the existence of purely electronic channels for low-energy two-photon absorption (TPA) in these types of chromophores. On the other hand, for all squaraines containing indolinylidenemethyl donors, the calculations indicate that there are no low-lying electronic states of appropriate symmetry for TPA. Actually, we find that the lowest energy TPA transitions can be explained through coupling of the one-photon absorption (OPA) active 1B(u) state with b(u) vibrational modes. Through implementation of Herzberg-Teller theory, we are able to identify the vibrational modes responsible for the low-energy TPA peak and to reproduce, at least qualitatively, the experimental TPA spectra of several squaraines of this type.  相似文献

One- and two-photon circular dichroism spectra of R-(+)-3-methyl-cyclopentanone, a system that has been the subject of recent experimental studies of (2+1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization circular dichroism, have been calculated with an origin-invariant density functional theory approximation in the region of the lowest electronic excited states, both for the gas phase and for a selection of solvents. A polarizable continuum model is used in the calculations performed on the solvated system. Two low-lying conformers are analyzed, and a comparison of the intensities and characteristic features is made with the corresponding two-photon absorption for each species, also for the Boltzmann-averaged spectra. The effect of the choice of geometry, basis set, and exchange-correlation functional is carefully analyzed. It is found that a density functional theory approach using the Coulomb attenuating method variant of Becke's three-parameter exchange and the Lee-Yang-Parr correlation functionals with correlation-consistent basis sets of double-zeta quality can reproduce the experimental electronic circular dichroism spectra very well. The features appearing in experiment are characterized in terms of molecular excitations, and the differences in the response of each state in the one- and two-photon processes are highlighted.  相似文献

The influence of geometry variations and solvent environment of N-methylacetamide on its energies and absorption intensities was systematically analyzed with the aid of the time-dependent density functional theory (TD DFT). Selective and often complicated reactions of individual electronic levels on the perturbations were found important for the resultant spectral profile. For example, the n-pi band position varied by tens of nanometers due to the C=O bond length oscillations, while it was rather unaffected by surrounding water. On the contrary, pi-pi type transition energies and intensities were broadly dispersed by the aqueous environment but exhibited a modest coordinate dependence. A simple electrostatic model used previously for absorption in the IR region (J. Chem. Phys. 2005, 122, 144501) explained these changes only partially. Additionally, electronic transfer between the solute and the solvent had to be considered for faithful modeling of the ultraviolet light absorption. The inclusion of the environment and dynamics in the modeling then provided more accurate positions, intensities, and realistic inhomogeneous widths of spectral lines. These factors were found important for absorption and circular dichroism spectra of larger peptides and proteins. This was demonstrated with a combined DFT/coupled oscillator model providing principal features observed in electronic circular dichroism spectra of standard peptide conformations.  相似文献

The electronic absorption spectra of some bisazo-dianils are studied in organic solvents of different polarity and in buffer solutions of varied pH. The different absorption bands are assigned to the corresponding electronic transitions, the solvent effect on the CT band energy is also discussed. The spectral study in buffer solutions is utilized for the determination of the pKa of the phenolic OH-groups. The important bands in the IR spectra as well as the signals of the 1H NMR spectra are assigned and discussed in relation to molecular structure. The fluorescence spectra of the compounds are recorded. The fluorescence quantum yield and pK in the ground and excited states are determined.  相似文献

Two-photon absorption processes were investigated in electropolymerized Fe(III), Mn(III), and Co(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-hydroxytetraphenyl)porphyrin films. Degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) spectroscopy with 100 fs pulses in the near-IR spectral region was used. Metalloporphyrins with strong charge transfer (CT) transitions in the linear absorption spectra also show enhanced two-photon absorption. (Metalloporphyrin two-photon absorption cross section, delta, increases >10 times over that for the metal free porphyrin.) This effect was attributed to a two-photon induced charge transfer between the metal ion's d orbitals and the pi-system of the porphyrin. Correlation of one- and two-photon absorption properties of transition metal porphyrins suggests a new and simple approach to improve organic materials for photonic applications.  相似文献

Abstract— The azo group may be used as a probe to gain information about the molecular surroundings. The circular dichroism (CD) spectra of two azo steroids have been investigated in media of different viscosity and polarity. The CD spectra of the trans -compounds are only slightly affected by the environment while those of the cis -compounds are strongly dependent on the environment. Photoisomerization is analysed by absorption and ellipticity diagrams as tests for chromophoric and conformeric uniformity. Our results support an inversion mechanism of the photoisomerization of azo compounds.  相似文献

The optical absorption, emission, FT Raman, one-photon excitation, two-photon excitation, and luminescence lifetime measurements are reported for UO(2)Cl(4)(2)(-) in 40:60 AlCl(3)-EMIC (where EMIC identical with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride), a room-temperature ionic liquid. Comparison of the spectra with previous results from single crystals containing UO(2)Cl(4)(2)(-) allowed the characterization of four ground-state vibrational frequencies, two excited-state vibrational frequencies, and the location of eight electronic excited-state energy levels. The vibrational frequencies and electronic energy levels are found to be consistent with the UO(2)Cl(4)(2)(-) ion. Comparison of the one-photon and two-photon excitation spectra, and the relative intensities of the transitions in the emission spectrum indicate that the center of symmetry is perturbed by an interaction with the solvent.  相似文献

The x-ray absorption and circular dichroism K-edge spectra for the D(2)-isomer of C(84) have been determined using the complex polarization propagator method in conjunction with Kohn-Sham density functional theory. The circular dichroism spectrum is rich in details and, in comparison to the absorption spectrum, it provides a superior resolution of the electronic transitions below the ionization threshold.  相似文献
