Stereocontrolled (E,Z and erythro, threo) synthesis of ⊙-hydroxyallylic sulphides

All four isomers of substituted 3-alkylthio-4-hydroxybutenes have been synthesised: both the geometry of the double bond and the relative stereochemistry of the two chiral centres are controlled.     

Synthesis of l,l-puromycin

l,l-Puromycin, a diastereomer of the natural peptidyl nucleoside antibiotic puromycin, has been synthesized from l-xylose in 13 steps.     

Diastereoselective synthesis of N-acetyl-D,L-acosamine and N-benzoyl-D,L-ristosamine

N-Acyl derivatives of $\text{D}$,$\text{L}$-acosamine and $\text{D}$,$\text{L}$-ristosamine were synthesized with high stereo selectivity utilizing intramolecular Michael addition of γ- and δ-carbomoyloxy-α,β-unsaturated esters.     

Die Schwingungsspektren der isomeren Komplexe N,N′-Bis(dimethylgallium)-cis- und trans-N,N′-dimethyloxamideine kritische Analyse

Reaction of Ga(CH₃)₃ with N,N′-dimethyloxamide affords two isomeric N,N′-bis(dimethylgallium)-N,N′-dimethyloxamide complexes, characterized by crystal structure analysis as having cis-and trans-configuration with respect to the central oxamide CC bond and belonging to the point groups C_2v (cis) and C_2h (trans), respectively. Both isomers which are formed in varying ratio, depending upon the reaction conditions, have been isolated in pure form; their vibration spectra (IR/RE) are analyzed in detail in points of alternative behaviour, and are assigned in all bands, especially in the G-C and Ga-X frequency region. The assignment receives further confirmation from a comparison with the vibrational data of the homologous N,N′-bis(dimethylgallium)oxamide (cis/trans isomer mixture).     

Racemization behavior of l,l-lactide during heating

To control the depolymerization process of poly(l-lactic acid) into l,l-lactide for feedstock recycling, the racemization of l,l-lactide as a post-depolymerization reaction was investigated. In the absence of a catalyst, the conversion to meso-lactide increased with increase in the heating temperature and time at a higher rate than the conversion into oligomers. The resulting high composition of meso-lactide suggests that the direct racemization of l,l-lactide had occurred in addition to the known racemization mechanism that occurs on the oligomer chains. In the presence of MgO, the oligomerization rapidly proceeded to reach an equilibrium state between monomers and oligomers. The equilibrium among l,l-, meso-, and d,d-lactides was found to be a convergent composition ratio l,l-:meso-:d,d-lactides = 1:1.22:0.99 (wt/wt/wt) after 120 min at 300 °C. This composition ratio also indicates that in addition to the known racemization reaction on the oligomer chains, direct racemization among the lactides is also a frequent occurrence.     

Autorecycling oxidation of alcohol catalyzed by 1,3,7,9,11,12,14-heptazapentacene-2,4,8,10 (14H,3H,9H,12H)-tetraones (mixed flavins)

1,3,7,9,11,12,14-Heptazapentacene-2,4,8,10 (14$\text{H}$,3$\text{H}$,9$\text{H}$,12$\text{H}$)-tetraones (mixed flavins) were prepared by the cyclization of 1,5-dihydro-8-[N-alkyl-N-(5-nitrouracil-6-yl)-amino-5-deazaflavins with Vilsmeier reagent. The mixed flavins oxidized alcohol under neutral condition in sunlight and a remarkable autorecycling was observed.     

Olefin metathesis in polycyclic frames 1. A new way to cis, syn, cis - tricyclopentanoids (acs-C11-triquinanes)

A novel olefin metathesis sequence permits ready access to functionalised $\text{cis}$, $\text{syn}$, $\text{cis}$-tricyclo [6.3.0.0^2,6] undecane based bis-enones. These bis-enones have been shown to undergo cage cyclisation in sunlight with remarkable ease and efficiency.     

New highly oxidized fusicoccane diterpenoids from the liverwort plagiochilaacanthophylla subsp. japonica

Four novel fusicoccane diterpenoids, fusicoplagins A, B, C, and D, have been isolated from the liverwort $\text{Plagiochila}$$\text{acanthophylla}$ subsp. $\text{japonica}$ and the structures determined by spectroscopic methods, chemical transformations, and X-ray crystallographic analysis.     

Synthesis of (1s,5r)-karahana ether and (1s,5r)-karahana lactone,the optically active forms of unique monoterpenes wit

(1$\text{S}$,5$\text{R}$)-(-)-Karahana ether (8,8-dimethyl-2-methylene-6-oxabi-cyclo[ 3.2.1]octane) and (1$\text{S}$,5$\text{R}$)-(-)-karahana lactone (8,8-dimethyl-2-methylene-6-oxabicyclo [3.2.1]octan-7-one) were synthesized from ($\text{S}$)-3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylcyclo-hexanone. The natural karahana lactone was shown to be almost racemic ($\text{ca}$. 1.3 % e.e.).     

Phase behavior of biodegradable amphiphilic poly(l,l-lactide)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(l,l-lactide)

This study describes the miscibility phase behavior in two series of biodegradable triblock copolymers, poly(l-lactide)-block-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(l-lactide) (PLLA-PEG-PLLA), prepared from two di-hydroxy-terminated PEG prepolymers (M_n = 4000 or 600 g mol⁻¹) with different lengths of poly(l-lactide) segments (polymerization degree, DP = 1.2-145.6). The prepared block copolymers presented wide range of molecular weights (800-25,000 g mol⁻¹) and compositions (16-80 wt.% of PEG). The copolymer multiphases coexistance and interaction were evaluated by DSC and TGA. The copolymers presented a dual stage thermal degradation and decreased thermal stability compared to PEG homopolymers. In addition, DSC analyses allowed the observation of multiphase separation; the melting temperature, T_m, of PLLA and PEG phases depended on the relative segment lengths and the only observed glass transition temperature (T_g) in copolymers indicated miscibility in the amorphous phase.

The structure of phaseolotoxin, a toxin produced by cultured $\text{Pseudomonas}$$\text{syringae}$ pv. $\text{phaseolicola}$, the causal agent of halo blight disease in bean plants is revised to 3. The structure of octicidin, isolated from leaves of bean plants infected with pv. $\text{phaseolicola}$. has been determined to be 4, a protease degradation product of 3 which is formed in the plant.     

Tetrahydrofuran-mediated radical processes: stereoselective synthesis of d,l-hexestrol

The highly stereoselective synthesis of d,l-hexestrol (1), an inhibitor of microtubule assembly, is developed by using, as a key step, an intermolecular coupling of Co₂(CO)₆-complexed propargyl radicals. The latter are generated by novel complementary processes involving an interaction of tetrahydrofuran with Co₂(CO)₆-complexed propargyl alcohols and cations. An isomerically pure d,l-μ-η²-[3,4-di(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,5-hexadiyne]-bis-dicobalthexacarbonyl (d,l-6) is isolated in 69-91% yield with intermolecular coupling reactions exhibiting an excellent chemo- (0.5-7%) and d,l-diastereoselectivity (90-94%). The structure of d,l-6 is determined by X-ray diffraction. The subsequent steps include BBr₃-induced demethylation of 4-methoxyaryl groups, demetalation with cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate, and hydrogenation of acetylenic termini affording d,l-hexestrol (1).
