In previous papers we have developed proof-theoretic techniques for extracting effective uniform bounds from large classes of ineffective existence proofs in functional analysis. Here `uniform' means independence from parameters in compact spaces. A recent case study in fixed point theory systematically yielded uniformity even w.r.t. parameters in metrically bounded (but noncompact) subsets which had been known before only in special cases. In the present paper we prove general logical metatheorems which cover these applications to fixed point theory as special cases but are not restricted to this area at all. Our theorems guarantee under general logical conditions such strong uniform versions of non-uniform existence statements. Moreover, they provide algorithms for actually extracting effective uniform bounds and transforming the original proof into one for the stronger uniformity result. Our metatheorems deal with general classes of spaces like metric spaces, hyperbolic spaces, CAT(0)-spaces, normed linear spaces, uniformly convex spaces, as well as inner product spaces.

The notion of a bead metric space defined here (see Definition 6) is a nice generalization of that of the uniformly convex normed space. In turn, the idea of a central point for a mapping when combined with the “single central point” property of the bead spaces enables us to obtain strong and elegant extensions of the Browder-Göhde-Kirk fixed point theorem for nonexpansive mappings (see Theorems 14-17). Their proofs are based on a very simple reasoning. We also prove two theorems on continuous selections for metric and Hilbert spaces. They are followed by fixed point theorems of Schauder type. In the final part we obtain a result on nonempty intersection.  相似文献

The notion of a metric bead space was introduced in the preceding paper (L.Pasicki: Bead spaces and fixed point theorems, Topology Appl., vol. 156 (2009), 1811–1816) and it was proved there that every bounded set in such a space (provided the space is complete) has a unique central point. The bead spaces themselves can be considered in particular as natural extensions of convex sets in uniformly convex spaces. It appears that normed bead spaces are identical with uniformly convex spaces. On the other hand the “metric” approach leads to new elementary conditions equivalent to the uniform convexity. The initial part of the paper contains the proof that discus spaces (they seem to have a richer structure) are identical with bead spaces.  相似文献

In this paper the concepts of strictly convex and uniformly convex normed linear spaces are extended to metric linear spaces. A relationship between strict convexity and uniform convexity is established. Some existence and uniqueness theorems on best approximation in metric linear spaces under different conditions are proved.  相似文献

In this paper, we show a relationship between strictly convexity of type (I) and (II) defined by Takahashi and Talman, and we prove that any uniformly convex metric space is strictly convex of type (II). Continuity of the convex structure is also shown on a compact domain. Then, we prove the existence of a minimum point of a convex, lower semicontinuous and d-coercive function defined on a nonempty closed convex subset of a complete uniformly convex metric space. By using this property, we prove fixed point theorems for (α, β)-generalized hybrid mappings in uniformly convex metric spaces. Using this result, we also obtain a common fixed point theorem for a countable commutative family of (α, β)-generalized hybrid mappings in uniformly convex metric spaces. Finally, we establish strong convergence of a Mann type iteration to a fixed point of (α, β)-generalized hybrid mapping in a uniformly convex metric space without assuming continuity of convex structure. Our results can be applied to obtain the existence and convergence theorems for (α, β)-generalized hybrid mappings in Hilbert spaces, uniformly convex Banach spaces and CAT(0) spaces.  相似文献

The three classical facts of the theory of normed spaces are considered: the boundedness principle, the Banach-Steinhaus theorem, and the uniform boundedness principle for a compact convex set. By means of Boolean valued analysis, the analogs of the theorems are proven in a lattice-normed space setting.  相似文献

Scalarization method is an important tool in the study of vector optimization as corresponding solutions of vector optimization problems can be found by solving scalar optimization problems. Recently this has been applied by Du (2010) [14] to investigate the equivalence of vectorial versions of fixed point theorems of contractive mappings in generalized cone metric spaces and scalar versions of fixed point theorems in general metric spaces in usual sense. In this paper, we find out that the topology induced by topological vector space valued cone metric coincides with the topology induced by the metric obtained via a nonlinear scalarization function, i.e any topological vector space valued cone metric space is metrizable, prove a completion theorem, and also obtain some more results in topological vector space valued cone normed spaces.  相似文献

In this paper, a kind of Ishikawa type iterative scheme with errors for approximating a common fixed point of two sequences of uniformly quasi-Lipschitzian mappings is introduced and studied in convex metric spaces. Under some suitable conditions, the convergence theorems concerned with the Ishikawa type iterative scheme with errors to approximate a common fixed point of two sequences of uniformly quasi-Lipschitzian mappings were proved in convex metric spaces. The results presented in the paper generalize and improve some recent results of Wang and Liu (C. Wang, L.W. Liu, Convergence theorems for fixed points of uniformly quasi-Lipschitzian mappings in convex metric spaces, Nonlinear Anal., TMA 70 (2009), 2067-2071).  相似文献

Towards Lim
The paper contains an elegant extension of the Nadler fixed point theorem for multivalued contractions (see Theorem 21). It is based on a new idea of the α-step mappings (see Definition 17) being more efficient than α-contractions. In the present paper this theorem is a tool in proving some fixed point theorems for “nonexpansive” mappings in the bead spaces (metric spaces that, roughly speaking, are modelled after convex sets in uniformly convex spaces). More precisely the mappings are nonexpansive on a set with respect to only one point - the centre of this set (see condition (4)). The results are pretty general. At first we assume that the value of the mapping under consideration at this central point looks “sharp” (see Definition 6). This idea leads to a group of theorems (based on Theorem 7). Their proofs are compact and the theorems, in particular, are natural extensions of the classical results for (usual) nonexpansive mappings. In the second part we apply the idea of Lim to investigate the regular sequences and here the proofs are based on our extension of Nadler's Theorem. In consequence we obtain some fixed point theorems that generalise the classical Lim Theorem for multivalued nonexpansive mappings (see e.g. Theorem 26).  相似文献

We give some sufficient conditions for proper lower semicontinuous functions on metric spaces to have error bounds (with exponents). For a proper convex function f on a normed space X the existence of a local error bound implies that of a global error bound. If in addition X is a Banach space, then error bounds can be characterized by the subdifferential of f. In a reflexive Banach space X, we further obtain several sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of error bounds in terms of the lower Dini derivative of f. Error bounds for set inclusions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A variant of Robinson-Ursescu Theorem is given in normed spaces. Several error bound theorems for convex inclusions are proved and in particular a positive answer to Li and Singer's conjecture is given under weaker assumption than the assumption required in their conjecture. Perturbation error bounds are also studied. As applications, we study error bounds for convex inequality systems.  相似文献

The isometries with respect to the Hausdorff metric of spaces of compact or compact convex subsets of certain compact metric spaces are precisely the mappings generated by isometries of the underlying spaces. In particular this holds when the underlying space is a finite dimensional torus or a sphere in a finite dimensional strictly convex smooth normed space.  相似文献

Nonlinear spectral gaps with respect to uniformly convex normed spaces are shown to satisfy a spectral calculus inequality that establishes their decay along Cesàro averages. Nonlinear spectral gaps of graphs are also shown to behave sub-multiplicatively under zigzag products. These results yield a combinatorial construction of super-expanders, i.e., a sequence of 3-regular graphs that does not admit a coarse embedding into any uniformly convex normed space.  相似文献

In this paper, the Leray–Schauder topological degree theory is developed in a fuzzy normed space. Since the linear topology on this fuzzy normed space is not necessarily locally convex, and since each Menger probabilistic normed space can be considered as a special fuzzy normed space, the degree theory in this paper is different from the degree theory in locally convex linear topological space presented by Nagumo (Amer. J. Math. 73 (1951) 497–511), and it also is an extension of the degree theory in Menger probabilistic normed space studied by Zhang and Chen (Appl. Math. Mech. 10(6) (1989) 477–486). Applying this degree theory, some fixed point theorems for operators are given in fuzzy normed spaces, and some former corresponding results are extended and improved.  相似文献

The Knaster-Kuratowski-Mazurkiewicz covering theorem (KKM), is the basic ingredient in the proofs of many so-called “intersection” theorems and related fixed point theorems (including the famous Brouwer fixed point theorem). The KKM theorem was extended from Rn to Hausdorff linear spaces by Ky Fan. There has subsequently been a plethora of attempts at extending the KKM type results to arbitrary topological spaces. Virtually all these involve the introduction of some sort of abstract convexity structure for a topological space, among others we could mention H-spaces and G-spaces. We have introduced a new abstract convexity structure that generalizes the concept of a metric space with a convex structure, introduced by E. Michael in [E. Michael, Convex structures and continuous selections, Canad. J. Math. 11 (1959) 556-575] and called a topological space endowed with this structure an M-space. In an article by Shie Park and Hoonjoo Kim [S. Park, H. Kim, Coincidence theorems for admissible multifunctions on generalized convex spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 197 (1996) 173-187], the concepts of G-spaces and metric spaces with Michael's convex structure, were mentioned together but no kind of relationship was shown. In this article, we prove that G-spaces and M-spaces are close related. We also introduce here the concept of an L-space, which is inspired in the MC-spaces of J.V. Llinares [J.V. Llinares, Unified treatment of the problem of existence of maximal elements in binary relations: A characterization, J. Math. Econom. 29 (1998) 285-302], and establish relationships between the convexities of these spaces with the spaces previously mentioned.  相似文献

We prove several superrigidity results for isometric actions on Busemann non-positively curved uniformly convex metric spaces. In particular we generalize some recent theorems of N. Monod on uniform and certain non-uniform irreducible lattices in products of locally compact groups, and we give a proof of an unpublished result on commensurability superrigidity due to G.A. Margulis. The proofs rely on certain notions of harmonic maps and the study of their existence, uniqueness, and continuity. Submitted: June 2006, Revision: June 2007, Accepted: July 2007  相似文献

A theorem proved by Hrushovski for graphs and extended by Solecki and Vershik (independently from each other) to metric spaces leads to a stronger version of ultrahomogeneity of the infinite random graph R, the universal Urysohn metric space U, and other related objects. We show how the result can be used to average out uniform and coarse embeddings of U (and its various counterparts) into normed spaces. Sometimes this leads to new embeddings of the same kind that are metric transforms and besides extend to affine representations of various isometry groups. As an application of this technique, we show that U admits neither a uniform nor a coarse embedding into a uniformly convex Banach space.  相似文献

Rådström's embedding theorem states that the nonempty compact convex subsets of a normed vector space can be identified with points of another normed vector space such that the embedding map is additive, positively homogeneous, and isometric. In the present paper, extensions of Rådström's embedding theorem are proven which provide additional information on the embedding space. These results include those of Hörmander who proved a similar embedding theorem for the nonempty closed bounded convex subsets of a Hausdorff locally convex vector space. In contrast to Hörmander's approach via support functionals, all embedding theorems of the present paper are proven by a refinement of Rådström's original method which is constructive and does not rely on Zorn's lemma. This paper also includes a brief discussion of some actual or potential applications of embedding theorems for classes of convex sets in probability theory, mathematical economics, interval mathematics, and related areas.  相似文献

In Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 22 (2001) 641-656, we obtained an effective quantitative analysis of a theorem due to Borwein, Reich, and Shafrir on the asymptotic behavior of general Krasnoselski-Mann iterations for nonexpansive self-mappings of convex sets C in arbitrary normed spaces. We used this result to obtain a new strong uniform version of Ishikawa's theorem for bounded C. In this paper we give a qualitative improvement of our result in the unbounded case and prove the uniformity result for the bounded case under the weaker assumption that C contains a point x whose Krasnoselski-Mann iteration (xk) is bounded. We also consider more general iterations for which asymptotic regularity is known only for uniformly convex spaces (Groetsch). We give uniform effective bounds for (an extension of) Groetsch's theorem which generalize previous results by Kirk, Martinez-Yanez, and the author.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate new properties of the generalized projection operators on convex closed cones in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces; establish decompositions theorems for arbitrary elements both in primary and dual spaces; and prove the Banach space analogue of the Pythagorean-type theorem. Earlier, all these results were known only in Hilbert spaces.  相似文献
