All three components of the vorticity fluctuation have been measured simultaneously in a turbulent wake using a new eight-sensor vorticity probe. The vorticity fluctuation spectra agree reasonably well with those from a direct numerical simulation of a turbulent channel flow at high wavenumbers. The similarity between the instantaneous energy dissipation rate ε and the instantaneous enstrophy ω2 is examined using spectra and probability density functions. The correlation between ω2 and ε is evaluated in some detail. The homogeneous value of ε is strongly correlated with ω2. The full value of ε and, more especially its isotropic value, are less well correlated with the enstrophy. Conditional averaging indicates that high enstrophy regions are associated with high energy dissipation rate regions.  相似文献

The effects of viscous dissipation on unsteady free convection from an isothermal vertical flat plate in a fluid saturated porous medium are examined numerically. The Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model is employed to describe the flow field. A new model of viscous dissipation is used for the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model of porous media. The simultaneous development of the momentum and thermal boundary layers are obtained by using a finite difference method. Boundary layer and Boussinesq approximation have been incorporated. Numerical calculations are carried out for various parameters entering into the problem. Velocity and temperature profiles as well as local friction factor and local Nusselt number are shown graphically. It is found that as time approaches infinity, the values of friction factor and heat transfer coefficient approach steady state.  相似文献

Buoyant flow is analysed for a vertical fluid saturated porous layer bounded by an isothermal plane and an isoflux plane in the case of a fully developed flow with a parallel velocity field. The effects of viscous dissipation and pressure work are taken into account in the framework of the Oberbeck–Boussinesq approximation scheme and of the Darcy flow model. Momentum and energy balances are combined in a dimensionless nonlinear ordinary differential equation solved numerically by a Runge–Kutta method. Both cases of upward pressure force (upward driven flows) and of downward pressure force (downward driven flows) are examined. The thermal behaviour for upward driven flows and downward driven flows is quite different. For upward driven flows, the combined effects of viscous dissipation and pressure work may produce a net cooling of the fluid even in the case of a positive heat input from the isoflux wall. For downward driven flows, viscous dissipation and pressure work yield a net heating of the fluid. A general reflection on the roles played by the effects of viscous dissipation and pressure work with respect to the Oberbeck–Boussinesq approximation is proposed.  相似文献

In this paper, a simple and efficient improvement to the famous Swanson–Turkel matrix dissipation model for the central scheme is proposed. In the new matrix dissipation model, the accuracy is improved by eliminating the second‐difference dissipation added to the characteristic fields representing the vorticity waves. This strategy is proposed based on analyzing the flow‐physics about shock‐vortex interaction using the Rankine–Hugoniot jump condition. In this paper, the behavior of central scheme for rotational flow is also theoretically and numerically analyzed. Results show a newfound problem of the original scalar and matrix dissipation models, in which for rotational flow excessive second‐difference dissipation is added due to the pressure‐based shock sensor. With current new matrix dissipation model improved accuracy is obtained at minimal cost overhead, especially, in the highly vortical region where the second‐difference dissipation is reduced. At the same time, it preserves the excellent shock capturing capability and convergence speed of original method. Numerical properties of this new matrix dissipation model are validated with a series of numerical experiments and results comparison with original model verifies improved performance of current method. The modelling of viscous dissipation in a porous medium saturated by an incompressible fluid is discussed, for the case of Darcy, Forchheimer and Brinkman models. An apparent paradox relating to the effect of inertial effects on viscous dissipation is resolved, and some wider aspects of resistance to flow (concerning quadratic drag and cubic drag) in a porous medium are discussed. Criteria are given for the importance or otherwise of viscous dissipation in various situations.  相似文献

In this paper a unified mathematical theory for the viscous dissipation term in the governing Brinkman equation is derived. This term has, unlike other models, the correct asymptotic behaviour in both the fully Darcy and Newtonian fluid flow limits.  相似文献

Combined, forced, and free flow in a vertical circular duct filled with a porous medium is investigated according to the Darcy–Boussinesq model. The effect of viscous dissipation is taken into account. It is shown that a thermal boundary condition compatible with fully developed and axisymmetric flow is either a linearly varying wall temperature in the axial direction or, only in the case of uniform velocity profile, an axial linear-exponential wall temperature change. The case of a linearly varying wall temperature corresponds to a uniform wall heat flux and includes the uniform wall temperature as a special case. A general analytical solution procedure is performed, by expressing the seepage velocity profile as a power series with respect to the radial coordinate. It is shown that, for a fixed thermal boundary condition, i.e., for a prescribed slope of the wall temperature, and for a given flow rate, there exist two solutions of the governing balance equations provided that the flow rate is lower than a maximum value. When the maximum value is reached, the dual solutions coincide. When the flow rate is higher than its maximum, no axisymmetric solutions exist.

A two-dimensional nonisothermal model of magma flow in a volcanic conduit is proposed. The model makes it possible to investigate the effect of the processes of viscous dissipation and heat conduction on the magma flow. It is established that the effect of these processes is significant, particularly in the case of high flow rates. It is shown that in this case the conduit resistance calculated from the Poiseuille formula widely used in one-dimensional models is highly overestimated. This is related to the formation of a strongly heated fluid layer with reduced viscosity in the near-wall conduit zone. Within the framework of the proposed model it is possible to describe eruptions with flow rates which are several times higher than the flow rates obtained within the framework of one-dimensional models.Translated from Izvestiya Rossiiskoi Academii Nauk, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, 2004, pp. 21–32. External free convection boundary-layer flows are usually treated by neglecting the effect of viscous dissipation. This assumption always results in a non-parallel flow, besides a strong parallel component also a weak transversal component of the (steady) velocity field occurs. The present paper shows, however, that the weak opposing effect of the buoyancy forces due to heat release by viscous dissipation, can give rise along a cold vertical plate adjacent to a fluid saturated porous medium to a strictly parallel steady free convection flow. This boundary-layer flow is described by an algebraically decaying exact analytical solution of the basic balance equations.  相似文献

Fully developed forced convection in a parallel plate channel filled by a saturated porous medium, with walls held either at uniform temperature or at uniform heat flux, with the effects of viscous dissipation and flow work included, is treated analytically. The Brinkman model is employed. The analysis leads to expressions for the Nusselt number, as a function of the Darcy number and Brinkman number.  相似文献

A new method of estimating the extent of the artificial dissipation effects in any solution obtained with a Navier–Stokes flow solver is described. Rather than recalculating the flow on a more refined grid, the solver may be used on the same grid to calculate the flow of an ‘artificially dissipative fluid’, which is a fluid having dissipate properties which arise entirely from the solution method itself. This is done by setting the viscosity and heat conduction coefficients in the Navier–Stokes solver to zero everywhere in the flow, while at the same time applying the usual boundary conditions at solid boundaries. An ‘artificially dissipative flow’ solution will be found where the dissipation effects depend entirely on the solver itself. By comparing this solution with that obtained on the same grid with the solver working in its normal mode, one can estimate whether further grid refinement is required, without necessarily producing an extensive series of solutions on different grids.  相似文献

In this paper, shooting method and homotopy perturbation technique are applied for the flow analysis of temporal energy transport in a deformation channel with isothermal walls. An incompressible viscous fluid fills the space inside the channel. Analytical and numerical solutions are developed for the momentum and energy equations. The viscous dissipation effects are taken into account. Graphs for pertinent flow parameters are sketched and discussed. Comparison between the analytical and numerical solutions indicates an excellent agreement. It is noticed that behaviors of Prandtl and Eckert numbers on the temperature are qualitatively similar. Phase inversion refers to the phenomenon whereby a small change in operational flow conditions causes an oil-in-water dispersed flow pattern to suddenly switch to a water-in-oil flow pattern, and viceversa. This paper proposes an interpretation of phase inversion in terms of minimal dissipation rate. To this end, the dissipation rate is computed by a simple homogeneous model together with available correlations for effective viscosity in dispersed flows. It is shown that the data available in the literature can be reasonably interpreted as a manifestation of minimal dissipation rate. Furthermore, if the assumed effective viscosity correlations take into account pipe wettability, the minimal dissipation rate approach is capable to interpret also the so-called ambivalent range (hysteresis effect) and correlate the available data.  相似文献

In this paper, the relationship between the plastic and intrinsic dissipations is addressed within the normality structure of [Rice, J.R., 1971. Inelastic constitutive relations for solids: an integral variable theory and its application to metal plasticity. J. Mech. Phys. Solids 19, 433–455; Rice, J.R., 1975. Continuum mechanics and thermodynamics of plasticity in relation to microscale deformation mechanisms. In: Argon, A.S. (Ed.), Constitutive Equations in Plasticity. MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, pp. 23–79.] It is shown that the plastic dissipation is generally not equal to the intrinsic dissipation. Within the normality structure, the microscale and macroscale thermodynamic fluxes and forces are related by the conditions of energy and dissipation equivalence. If the plastic dissipation is required to be equal to the intrinsic dissipation, J2 potential and the Levy–Mises equation are recovered from the condition of dissipation equivalence for incompressible plastic flows.  相似文献

The transient problem of coupled heat and mass transfer of a micropolar fluid in magneto‐hydrodynamic free convection from a vertical infinite porous plate with an exponentially decaying heat generating considering the viscous dissipation and ohmic heating effects is studied. Joule heating must be considered when the viscous dissipation and the Prandtl number are large. The non‐dimensional equations for the conservation of mass, momentum, energy and concentration are solved by means a numerical technique based on electric analogy (network simulation method). This method provides the numerical response of the system by running the network in circuit resolution software with the solution to both transient and steady‐state problems at the same time, and its programming does not require manipulation of the sophisticated mathematical software that is inherent in other numerical methods. The effects of the material parameters, viscous dissipation, internal generation and Joule heating on velocity, angular momentum and temperature fields across the boundary layer are investigated. In addition, the skin‐friction coefficient, couple stress coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are shown in tabular form. The numerical results for velocity and temperature distributions of micropolar fluids are compared with the corresponding flow problems for a Newtonian fluid. A direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow with an imposed mean scalar gradient is analyzed with a focus on passive scalar flux modelling and in particular the treatment of the passive scalar dissipation equation. The Prandtl number is 0.71 and the Reynolds number based on the wall friction velocity and the channel half width is 265. Budgets are presented for the passive scalar variance and its dissipation rate, as well as for the individual scalar flux components. These form a basis for a discussion of modelling issues related to explicit algebraic scalar flux modelling. This paper examines the modeling of two-dimensional homogeneous stratified turbulent shear flows using the Reynolds-stress and Reynolds-heat-flux equations. Several closure models have been investigated; the emphasis is placed on assessing the effect of modeling the dissipation rate tensor in the Reynolds-stress equation. Three different approaches are considered; one is an isotropic approach while the other two are anisotropic approaches. The isotropic approach is based on Kolmogorov's hypothesis and a dissipation rate equation modified to account for vortex stretching. One of the anisotropic approaches is based on an algebraic representation of the dissipation rate tensor, while another relies on solving a modeled transport equation for this tensor. In addition, within the former anisotropic approach, two different algebraic representations are examined; one is a function of the Reynolds-stress anisotropy tensor, and the other is a function of the mean velocity gradients. The performance of these closure models is evaluated against experimental and direct numerical simulation data of pure shear flows, pure buoyant flows and buoyant shear flows. Calculations have been carried out over a range of Richardson numbers (Ri) and two different Prandtl numbers (Pr); thus the effect of Pr on the development of counter-gradient heat flux in a stratified shear flow can be assessed. At low Ri, the isotropic model performs well in the predictions of stratified shear flows; however, its performance deteriorates as Ri increases. At high Ri, the transport equation model for the dissipation rate tensor gives the best result. Furthermore, the results also lend credence to the algebraic dissipation rate model based on the Reynolds stress anisotropy tensor. Finally, it is found that Pr has an effect on the development of counter-gradient heat flux. The calculations show that, under the action of shear, counter-gradient heat flux does not occur even at Ri = 1 in an air flow. The total drag force on the surface of a body, which is the sum of the form drag and the skin friction drag in a 2D domain, is numerically evaluated by integrating the energy dissipation rate in the whole domain for an incompressible Stokes fluid. The finite element method is used to calculate both the energy dissipation rate in the whole domain as well as the drag on the boundary of the body. The evaluation of the drag and the energy dissipation rate are post-processing operations which are carried out after the velocity field and the pressure field for the flow over a particular profile have been obtained. The results obtained for the flow over three different but constant area profiles—a circle, an ellipse and a cross-section of a prolate spheroid—with uniform inlet velocity are presented and it is shown that the total drag force times the velocity is equal to the total energy dissipation rate in the entire finite flow domain. Hence, by calculating the energy dissipation rate in the domain with unit velocity specified at the far-field boundary enclosing the domain, the drag force on the boundary of the body can be obtained.  相似文献
