Site-specific functionalization of oxide nanostructures gives rise to novel optical and chemical surface properties. In addition, it can provide deeper insights into the electronic surface structure of the associated materials. We applied chemisorption of molecular hydrogen, induced by ultraviolet (UV) light, followed by vacuum annealing to MgO nanocubes to selectively decorate three-coordinated oxygen ions (oxygen corner sites, for simplicity) with protons. Fully dehydroxylated nanocubes exhibit 3.2 +/- 0.1 eV photoluminescence induced by 4.6 eV light, where both emission and absorption are associated with three-coordinated oxygen sites. We find that partially hydroxylated nanocubes show an additional photoluminescence feature at 2.9 +/- 0.1 eV. Interestingly, the excitation spectra of the 2.9 and 3.2 eV emission bands, associated with protonated and nonprotonated oxygen corner sites, respectively, nearly coincide and show well-pronounced maxima at 4.6 eV in spite of a significant difference in their local atomic and electronic structures. These observations are explained with the help of ab initio calculations, which reveal that (i) the absorption band at 4.6 eV involves four-coordinated O and Mg ions in the immediate vicinity of the corner sites and (ii) protonation of the three-coordinated oxygen ions eliminates the optical transitions associated with them and strongly red-shifts other optical transitions associated with neighboring atoms. These results demonstrate that the optical absorption bands assigned to topological surface defects are not simply determined by the ions of lowest coordination number but involve contributions due to the neighboring atoms of higher coordination. Thus, we suggest that the absorption band at 4.6 eV should not be regarded as merely a signature of the three-coordinated O2- ions but ought to be assigned to corners as multiatomic topological features. Our results also suggest that optical absorption signatures of protonated and nonprotonated sites of oxide surfaces can be remarkably similar.  相似文献

For mixed magnesium phosphate hydrate complexes containing Mg2+ and Mg+ cations and HPO42−, HPO4, and H2P2O72− anions, theoretical analysis of the electronic structure and energies has been performed at the model level in order to predict the actual role of these systems in various reactions that occur in the catalytic sites of ATP synthesizing enzymes. The calculations (DFT/B3LYP, MP2 with the 6–31G* basis set) of isolated aqua complexes Mg(H2O) n p (n = 1−6, p = 0, +1, +2) show that their relative stability monotonically increases with increasing n in each series and sharply decreases at a given n in going from the charged systems of Mg2+ (4–16 eV) and Mg+ (2–7 eV) to the neutral systems of Mg (<2 eV). An even higher stability is predicted for mixed magnesium complexes. The energies of fragmentation of mixed Mg2+ complexes into singlet phosphate and Mg2+-containing fragments at n = 0–4 are within 6–27 eV, and the energies of fragmentation into the corresponding radical ions are within 3–10 eV; for the Mg+ complexes, the fragmentation energies are also high (6–14 eV). The reasons for the enhanced stability of the complexes of both types have been analyzed with allowance for the predicted specific features of the electron density redistribution upon complex formation. Typical changes in the geometry of the P- and Mg-containing fragments caused by formation of mixed complexes have been discussed in the framework of the vibronic model of heteroligand systems. The high stability of all mixed magnesium complexes relative to various fragmentation products presumably rules out any dissociative processes in them in the course of ATP synthesis with the participation of phosphorylating enzymes.  相似文献

The results of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations on optical properties of vanadium complexes VOCl3, VOCl4 -, VOCl5 2-, as well as the VO4 3- ion, are presented. The spectra of excited states in the range 25000-60000 cm-1 have been analyzed using the time-dependent DFT method (TDDFT). Spectroscopic features of structural defects (low-coordinated (LC) oxygen ions), as well as surface point defects (F+ and F sites) in MgO, have been studied within the cluster approach. The charge-transfer spectra and frequencies of normal vibrations for a number of active site models of finely dispersed oxides MgO and V2O5 on silica have been calculated. Comparison of the obtained results with experimental electronic diffuse reflectance spectra and fundamental frequencies confirms a hypothesis about the structure of active centers of finely dispersed oxide V2O5 on silica as monomeric forms, (O=V-O n ).  相似文献

We report on electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) of O- ions from δ phase O2 physisorbed on graphite. A production of energetic O- ions is observed with an onset at about 13 eV. The measured onset of the yield of O+ ions is however found at about 20 eV. O- ions yields obtained at different ion kinetic energies and kinetic energy (KE) measurements lead us to postulate a substrate mediated ESD mechanism following direct electronic excitation of physisorbed O2.  相似文献

Charge exchange of neutral C3F6 by a variety of atomic and molecular ions in the 1 to 25 eV range of collision energies is used to characterize the energies associated with formation of [C3F6]+˙. The internal energy of the nascent [C3F6]+˙ ion, assessed by observing the degree to which it fragments, increases with the recombination energy of the charge-exchange reagent. The existence of excited states of the reagent ions is identified from the fragmentation behaviour of [C3F6]+˙ in the cases of [CS2]+˙, NO+, O2+˙, [NH3]+˙ and possibly [CH4]+˙. In addition, the data confirm that the [C3F6]+˙ parent ion fragments from both the ground state and a long-lived isolated electronic state. The latter is populated by near-resonant charge transfer. Translational excitation contributes relatively little to internal excitation of the charge-exchanged product ion and even less in the case of the isolated state.  相似文献

Anion photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations at the density functional theory (DFT), coupled cluster theory (CCSD(T)), and complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) theory levels are employed to study the reduced transition metal oxide clusters M(4)O(10)(-) (M = Cr, W) and their neutrals. Photoelectron spectra are obtained at 193 and 157 nm photon energies, revealing very different electronic structures for the Cr versus W oxide clusters. The electron affinity and HOMO-LUMO gap are measured to be 3.68 ± 0.05 and 0.7 eV, respectively, for the Cr(4)O(10) neutral cluster, as compared to 4.41 ± 0.04 and 1.3 eV for W(4)O(10). A comprehensive search is performed to determine the ground-state structures for M(4)O(10) and M(4)O(10)(-), in terms of geometry and electronic states by carefully examining the calculated relative energies at the DFT, CCSD(T), and CASSCF levels. The ground states of Cr(4)O(10) and Cr(4)O(10)(-) have tetrahedral structures similar to that of P(4)O(10) with the anion having a lower symmetry due to a Jahn-Teller distortion. The ground states of W(4)O(10) and W(4)O(10)(-) have butterfly shape structures, featuring two fused five-member rings with a metal-metal multiple bond between the central metal atoms. The much stronger WW bonding than the CrCr bonding is found to be the primary cause for the different ground state structures of the reduced Cr(4)O(10)(0/-) versus W(4)O(10)(0/-) oxide clusters. The photoelectron spectra are assigned by comparing the experimental and theoretical adiabatic and vertical electron detachment energies, further confirming the determination of the ground electronic states of M(4)O(10) and M(4)O(10)(-). The time-dependent DFT method is used to calculate the excitation energies of M(4)O(10). The TD-DFT results in combination with the self-consistently calculated vertical detachment energies for some of the excited states at the DFT and CCSD(T) levels are used to assign the higher energy bands. Accurate clustering energies and heats of formation of M(4)O(10) are calculated and used to calculate accurate reaction energies for the reduction of M(4)O(12) to M(4)O(10) by CH(3)OH, as well as for the oxidation of M(4)O(10) to M(4)O(12) by O(2). The performance of the DFT method with the B3LYP and BP86 functionals in the calculations of the relative energies, electron detachment energies, and excitation energies are evaluated, and the BP86 functional is found to give superior results for most of these energetic properties.  相似文献

Photoabsorption and photoluminescence properties of single and double oxygen vacancy (OV and DOV) defects in quartz-like germanium oxide have been investigated by high-level ab initio calculations. It has been found that photoabsorption for these systems occurs at lower energies as compared to the analogous defects in SiO(2). For OV, the lowest electronic excitations with high oscillator strengths have energies of 6.7-7.0 eV, whereas for DOV, the lowest-energy photoabsorption band is calculated to be in the range of 5.5-5.9 eV. Significant geometry relaxation and large Stokes shift are inherent for these excited states and, as a result, their photoluminescence bands are predicted to peak at 3.1-3.3 eV for OV and at 2.6 eV for DOV. The double oxygen vacancy is suggested to be the most suitable candidate for generating bright blue photoluminescence observed experimentally for substoichiometric quartz-like GeO(2) nanowires, as the calculated optical properties of DOV are in close agreement with the features found in experiment.  相似文献

Surface-induced interactions of the projectile ion C2D4+ with room-temperature (hydrocarbon covered) stainless steel, carbon highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), and two different types of diamond surfaces (O-terminated and H-terminated) were investigated over the range of incident energies from a few eV up to 50 eV. The relative abundance of the product ions in dependence on the incident energy of the projectile ion [collision-energy resolved mass spectra, (CERMS) curves] was determined. The product ion mass spectra contained ions resulting from direct dissociation of the projectile ions, from chemical reactions with the hydrocarbons on the surface, and (to a small extent) from sputtering of the surface material. Sputtering of the surface layer by low-energy Ar+ ions (5–400 eV) indicated the presence of hydrocarbons on all studied surfaces. The CERMS curves of the product ions were analyzed to obtain both CERMS curves for the products of direct surface-induced dissociation of the projectile ion and CERMS curves of products of surface reactions. From the former, the fraction of energy converted in the surface collision into the internal excitation of the projectile ion was estimated as 10% of the incident energy. The internal energy of the surface-excited projectile ions was very similar for all studied surfaces. The H-terminated room-temperature diamond surface differed from the other surfaces only in the fraction of product ions formed in H-atom transfer surface reactions (45% of all product ions formed versus 70% on the other surfaces).  相似文献

Ultraviolet excitation of high surface area MgO films using 4.7 eV femtosecond pulses results in neutral Mg-atom desorption with hyperthermal kinetic energies in the range 0.1-0.4 eV. The Mg-atom hyperthermal energies and power dependences are similar to those previously observed using nanosecond pulsed excitation. Femtosecond two-pulse correlation measurements reveal the existence of different dynamical paths for Mg-atom desorption. One mechanism displays a sub-150 fs time scale and involves the simultaneous or near-simultaneous transition of two electrons to a 3-coordinated Mg(2+) site. Other paths display picosecond time scales that we associate with dynamics following electron trapping at 3-coordinated Mg(2+) surface sites.  相似文献

The structural evolution and bonding of a series of early transition-metal oxide clusters, V(n)O(q) (n = 3-9, q = 0,-1), have been investigated with the aid of previous photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) and theoretical calculations. For each vanadium monoxide cluster, many low-lying isomers are generated using the Saunders "Kick" global minimum stochastic search method. Theoretical electron detachment energies (both vertical and adiabatic) were compared with the experimental measurements to verify the ground states of the vanadium monoxide clusters obtained from the DFT calculations. The results demonstrate that the combination of photoelectron spectroscopy experiments and DFT calculation is not only powerful for obtaining the electronic and atomic structures of size-selected clusters, but also valuable in resolving structurally and energetically close isomers. The second difference energies and adsorption energies as a function of the cluster size exhibit a pronounced even-odd alternation phenomenon. The adsorption energies of one O atom on the anionic (6.64 → 8.16 eV) and neutral (6.41 → 8.13 eV) host vanadium clusters are shown to be surprisingly high, suggesting strong capabilities to activate O by structural defects in vanadium oxides.  相似文献

The vibrational and electronic absorption spectra of dibenzo[b,def]chrysene (DBC) and its ions in argon matrixes have been recorded. Assignment of the observed infrared (IR) bands has been made by comparison with the density functional theory (DFT) computations of harmonic vibrational frequencies (with 6-31G(d,p) or 6-311+G(d,p) basis sets). Extensive time-dependent (TD) DFT calculations of vertical excitation energies have aided in the assignment of the experimental electronic absorption transitions. In general, the theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the observed ultraviolet and visible bands. By correlating IR and UV-visible band intensities (after UV photolysis), it has been shown that both DBC cations and anions are formed. The IR band intensity distributions of the DBC ions differ markedly from neutral DBC. A synthetic spectrum composed of neutral, cationic, and anionic DBC contributions compares reasonably well with the interstellar features of the "unidentified infrared" (UIR) bands from the reflection nebula NGC 7023. Finally, it is shown that the electronic absorption bands of the DBC ions lie in close proximity to several of the diffuse interstellar visible absorption bands (DIBs).  相似文献

We compared the photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) process of storage phosphor KCl:Eu under the irradiation of X-ray, 2.0 MeV H+ ions and 2.0 MeV He+ ions. The purpose of the irradiation of H+ and He+ ions was to mimic the irradiation effects of neutrons. In each case, it was revealed that F-centers were involved in the PSL process. We observed an entirely different fluence-dependent PSL behavior between the X-ray and the ion irradiation, whereas the behavior of the F-center absorption was quite similar. This difference was due to the different yields of the trapping sites for the electrons liberated from the F-centers, and the difference in the yield was ascribed to the difference in the excitation density. This result clearly indicated a marked difference in the PSL process under X-ray and neutron irradiations and indicated that the analysis of the PSL process under ion irradiation is highly important for the application of PSL phosphors to neutron radiography.  相似文献

Collisions of organofluorine ions at a metal surface result in efficient emission of adsorbate species as gas-phase ions. The experiments are done at 120° scattering angle in a hybrid (BQ) mass spectrometer; the primary ions, mass-selected by a magnetic sector (B), are allowed to collide with a target at a selected kinetic energy in the tens of eV range and the emitted ions are mass-analyzed using a quadrupole mass filter (Q). It is proposed that the impinging ions undergo neutralization accompanied by desorption of hydrocarbon ions and that the amount of internal energy deposited in the desorbed ions is strongly dependent on the collision energy and affects their degree of fragmentation. Competing processes include reflection and fragmentation of the colliding particle, along with such ion/adsorbate reactions as hydrogen atom abstraction by the fluorinated ion. Small even-electron ions, such as [CHF2]+ and [C2H2F]+ are more effective in promoting chemical sputtering of the surface adsorbate as compared to larger ions (e.g. [C3F5]+) and odd-electron ions (e.g. [C2F4]+˙ and [C2HF2]+˙). At low energies some odd-electron fluorinated ions undergo collision without any secondary ions being emitted from the surface. In these cases the parent ions are apparently neutralized, but without sufficient energy transfer to cause hydrocarbon ion desorption. Non-fluorinated organic ions yield fragment ions and ion/surface reaction products under the condition of these experiments, but do not cause significant desorption of hydrocarbon ions.  相似文献

The possible dynamical pathways which are likely to occur in collisional encounters between BH(X 1Σ+) molecules and protons in the centre-of-mass energy range of a few eV are discussed. The DIM model is used to described the potential energy surfaces (PESs) of the BH2)+ system which are most relevant at the considered energies. Possible processes include inelastic scattering and charge-transfer events which can produce different electronic states of BH+ ions depending on the relative orientations of colliding partners during encounters.  相似文献

The influence of beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium cations on the electronic system of 3-nitrobenzoic acid was studied in comparison with studied earlier alkali metal ions [1]. The vibrational FT-IR (in KBr and ATR techniques) and 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded for 3-nitrobenzoic acid and its salts. Characteristic shifts in IR and NMR spectra along 3-nitrobenzoates of divalent metal series Mg → Ba were compared with series of univalent metal Li → Cs salts. Good correlations between the wavenumbers of the vibrational bands in the IR spectra for 3-nitrobenzoates and ionic potential, electronegativity, inverse of atomic mass, atomic radius and ionization energy of metals were found for alkaline earth metals as well as for alkali metals. The density functional (DFT) hybrid method B3LYP with two basis sets: 6-311++G** and LANL2DZ were used to calculate optimized geometrical structures of studied compounds. The theoretical wavenumbers and intensities of IR spectra as well as chemical shifts in NMR spectra were obtained. Geometric aromaticity indices, atomic charges, dipole moments and energies were also calculated. The calculated parameters were compared to experimental characteristic of studied compounds.  相似文献

For processes of the type K + M
K+ + M? at eV collision energies, measurements are reported of the population of excited states of the product negative ions. For M = Br2 and SF6 only a small excitation (0.5 – 3 eV) is found. For M = O2, the products can be excited up to higher energies (? 5 eV); this is ascribed to a second electronic channel of the process.  相似文献

Translation energy loss (TEL) values have been measured in the collision-induced fragmentation of Li6F5+ cluster ions. TEL values varied between 1 and 8 eV in single collisions and showed a strong dependence on the centre-of-mass (com) collision energy. At large com collision energies (>800 eV) the TEL was small (?1.5 eV) and is explained by internal excitation. At lower com collision energies, TEL values were larger (up to 8 eV), and these are explained in terms of kinetic energy uptake by the target gas. TEL values observed using LiF and CsI clusters are compared.  相似文献

The structural and electronic properties of the fluorene-pyridine copolymer (FPy)(n), (n = 1-4) were investigated theoretically by means of quantum mechanical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) using the B3LYP functional. Geometry optimizations of these oligomers were performed for the ground state and the lowest excited state. It was found that (FPy)(n) is nonplanar in its ground state, whereas a more pronounced trend toward planarity is observed in the S(1) state. Absorption and fluorescence energies have been extrapolated to infinite chain length making use of their good linearity with respect to 1/n. An extrapolated value of 2.64 eV is obtained for vertical excitation energy. The S(1)<--S(0) electronic excitation is characterized as a highest occupied molecular orbital to lowest unoccupied molecular orbital transition and is dominating in terms of oscillator strength. Fluorescence energies and radiative lifetime were calculated as well. The obtained results indicate that the fluorescence energy and radiative lifetime of (FPy)(n) are 2.16 eV and 0.38 ns, respectively. The decrease of fluorescence energy and radiative lifetime with the increase in the chain length is discussed.  相似文献

The fulvenallenyl radical was produced in 6 K neon matrices after mass‐selective deposition of C7H5? and C7H5+ generated from organic precursors in a hot cathode ion source. Absorption bands commencing at λ=401.3 nm were detected as a result of photodetachment of electrons from the deposited C7H5? and also by neutralization of C7H5+ in the matrix. The absorption system is assigned to the 1 2B1←X 2B1 transition of the fulvenallenyl radical on the basis of electronic excitation energies calculated with the MS‐CASPT2 method. The vibrational excitation bands detected in the spectrum concur with the structure of the fulvenallenyl radical. Employing DFT calculations, it is found that the fulvenallenyl anion and its radical are the global minima on the potential energy surface among plausible structures of C7H5.  相似文献
