On the group matrices for a generalized dihedral group

For the generalized dihedral group, an effective method is given to construct a matrix which transforms group matrices to a convenient block-diagonal form.     

Resultants and group matrices

In this paper, we study the resultants of polynomials which are the determinants of polynomial matrices, and we show that the determinant of a group matrix can be expressed in terms of an iterated resultant of a system of polynomials in several variables which are explicitly given in terms of first row entries. We also show how to obtain the block triangulation of block group matrices over a finite field.     

Information about group matrices

Each ordering for the elements of a finite group G of order n defines a corresponding class of group matrices for G. First, this paper proves that the number of distinct classes of group matrices for G equals (n ? 1)!/m, where m is the number of automorphisms of G. Then, a study is made of a block-diagonal reduction for the group matrices of any particular class.     

Subgroups of the general symplectic group containing the group of diagonal matrices

There are described the subgroups of the general symplectic group =GSp(2n, R) over a commutative semilocal ring R, containing the group of symplectic diagonal matrices. For each such subgroup P there is uniquely defined a symplectic D-net a such that ()pN(), where () is the net subgroup in corresponding to (cf. RZhMat, 1977, 5A288), and N() is its normalizer. The quotient group N × ()/() is calculated. There are also considered subgroups in Sp(2n, R). Subgroups of the orthogonal group that contain a group of quasidiagonal matrices

Cumulants for random matrices as convolutions on the symmetric group

In this paper, we show that free cumulants can be naturally seen as the limiting value of ``cumulants of matrices'. We define these objects as functions on the symmetric group by some convolution relations involving the generalized moments. We state that some characteristic properties of the free cumulants already hold for these cumulants.     

Free group of infinite unitriangular matrices

Minimal rank of abelian group matrices

The minimal rank of abelian group matrices with positive integral entries is determined.The corresponding problem for circulant matrices have been investigated by Ingleton and more recently by Shiu-Ma-Fang. Our work can be viewed as a generalization of their results, since a group matrix becomes circulant when the group is cyclic.     

Further results on the group inverse of some anti-triangular block matrices

Suppose ? is a right Ore domain with unity 1. In this paper, we investigate the existence of the group inverse of some anti-triangular block matrices over ? and obtain the sufficient and necessary conditions for such existence. Further, the representations of the group inverse for the following two classes are given. (i) , where CA=C; (ii) , where B ^? exists and BA=BAB ^? B. The results extend the earlier works of Liu et al. (in Appl. Math. Comput. 218:8978–8986, 2012) and Zhao et al. (in E. J. Linear Algebra 21:63–75, 2010). Some results in special cases are also generalized to any ring.     

Oblique projectors and group involutory matrices

In this work, conditions characterizing when a lineal combination of two projectors of the same order is a group involutory matrix are analyzed. In particular, a representation of an involutory matrix as a sum or difference of two projectors is given. In addition, some results are applied to control problems. An application to obtain a state feedback control is given.     

On the trace of idempotent matrices over group algebras

Let G be a group and E an idempotent matrix with entries in the group algebra CG. In this paper, we consider the embedding of CG into the von Neumann algebra G and use the center-valued trace on the latter, in order to obtain some information about the coefficients of the Hattori-Stallings rank of E. Our results generalize the inequalities obtained previously by Kaplansky [11], Passi, Passmann, Luthar and Alexander [1,10,12], while providing at the same time a unified and coherent presentation of these, via the notion of moments that are associated with E.     

Finite groups of matrices over group rings

We investigate certain finite subgroups of , where is a finite nilpotent group. Such a group gives rise to a -module; we study the characters of these modules to limit the structure of . We also exhibit some exotic subgroups .
