A classification of connected vertex‐transitive cubic graphs of square‐free order is provided. It is shown that such graphs are well‐characterized metacirculants (including dihedrants, generalized Petersen graphs, Möbius bands), or Tutte's 8‐cage, or graphs arisen from simple groups PSL(2, p).  相似文献

A noncomplete graph Γ is said to be (G, 2)‐distance transitive if G is a subgroup of the automorphism group of Γ that is transitive on the vertex set of Γ, and for any vertex u of Γ, the stabilizer is transitive on the sets of vertices at distances 1 and 2 from u. This article investigates the family of (G, 2)‐distance transitive graphs that are not (G, 2)‐arc transitive. Our main result is the classification of such graphs of valency not greater than 5. We also prove several results about (G, 2)‐distance transitive, but not (G, 2)‐arc transitive graphs of girth 4.  相似文献

We classify noncomplete prime valency graphs satisfying the property that their automorphism group is transitive on both the set of arcs and the set of 2‐geodesics. We prove that either Γ is 2‐arc transitive or the valency p satisfies , and for each such prime there is a unique graph with this property: it is a nonbipartite antipodal double cover of the complete graph with automorphism group and diameter 3.  相似文献

A natural topic of algebraic graph theory is the study of vertex transitive graphs. In the present article, we investigate locally 3‐transitive graphs of girth 4. Taking our former results on locally symmetric graphs of girth 4 as a starting point, we show what properties are retained if we weaken the requirement of local symmetry to local 3‐transitivity.  相似文献

Partial cubes are graphs isometrically embeddable into hypercubes. In this article, it is proved that every cubic, vertex‐transitive partial cube is isomorphic to one of the following graphs: , for , the generalized Petersen graph G (10, 3), the cubic permutahedron, the truncated cuboctahedron, or the truncated icosidodecahedron. This classification is a generalization of results of Bre?ar et  al. (Eur J Combin 25 (2004), 55–64) on cubic mirror graphs; it includes all cubic, distance‐regular partial cubes (P. M. Weichsel, Discrete Math 109 (1992), 297–306), and presents a contribution to the classification of all cubic partial cubes.  相似文献

We study a family of digraphs (directed graphs) that generalises the class of Cayley digraphs. For nonempty subsets of a group G, we define the two‐sided group digraph to have vertex set G, and an arc from x to y if and only if for some and . In common with Cayley graphs and digraphs, two‐sided group digraphs may be useful to model networks as the same routing and communication scheme can be implemented at each vertex. We determine necessary and sufficient conditions on L and R under which may be viewed as a simple graph of valency , and we call such graphs two‐sided group graphs. We also give sufficient conditions for two‐sided group digraphs to be connected, vertex‐transitive, or Cayley graphs. Several open problems are posed. Many examples are given, including one on 12 vertices with connected components of sizes 4 and 8.  相似文献

A d‐regular graph is said to be superconnected if any disconnecting subset with cardinality at most d is formed by the neighbors of some vertex. A superconnected graph that remains connected after the failure of a vertex and its neighbors will be called vosperian. Let Γ be a vertex‐transitive graph of degree d with order at least d+4. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the vosperianity of Γ. Moreover, assuming that distinct vertices have distinct neighbors, we show that Γ is vosperian if and only if it is superconnected. Let G be a group and let S?G\{1} with S=S?1. We show that the Cayley graph, Cay(G, S), defined on G by S is vosperian if and only if G\(S∪{1}) is not a progression and for every non‐trivial subgroup H and every aG, If moreover S is aperiodic, then Cay(G, S) is vosperian if and only if it is superconnected.

The class of graphs that are 2‐path‐transitive but not 2‐arc‐transitive is investigated. The amalgams for such graphs are determined, and structural information regarding the full automorphism groups is given. It is then proved that a graph is 2‐path‐transitive but not 2‐arc‐transitive if and only if its line graph is half‐arc‐transitive, thus providing a method for constructing new families of half‐arc‐transitive graphs. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An edge of a 5‐connected graph is said to be 5‐removable (resp. 5‐contractible) if the removal (resp. the contraction) of the edge results in a 5‐connected graph. A 5‐connected graph with neither 5‐removable edges nor 5‐contractible edges is said to be minimally contraction‐critically 5‐connected. We show the average degree of every minimally contraction‐critically 5‐connected graph is less than . This bound is sharp in the sense that for any positive real number ε, there is a minimally contraction‐critically 5‐connected graph whose average degree is greater than .  相似文献

We call a graph G a platypus if G is non‐hamiltonian, and for any vertex v in G, the graph is traceable. Every hypohamiltonian and every hypotraceable graph is a platypus, but there exist platypuses that are neither hypohamiltonian nor hypotraceable. Among other things, we give a sharp lower bound on the size of a platypus depending on its order, draw connections to other families of graphs, and solve two open problems of Wiener. We also prove that there exists a k‐connected platypus for every .  相似文献

Let denote the graph obtained from the complete graph by deleting the edges of some ‐subgraph. The author proved earlier that for each fixed s and , every graph with chromatic number has a minor. This confirmed a partial case of the corresponding conjecture by Woodall and Seymour. In this paper, we show that the statement holds already for much smaller t, namely, for .  相似文献

A graph G is equimatchable if each matching in G is a subset of a maximum‐size matching and it is factor critical if has a perfect matching for each vertex v of G. It is known that any 2‐connected equimatchable graph is either bipartite or factor critical. We prove that for 2‐connected factor‐critical equimatchable graph G the graph is either or for some n for any vertex v of G and any minimal matching M such that is a component of . We use this result to improve the upper bounds on the maximum number of vertices of 2‐connected equimatchable factor‐critical graphs embeddable in the orientable surface of genus g to if and to if . Moreover, for any nonnegative integer g we construct a 2‐connected equimatchable factor‐critical graph with genus g and more than vertices, which establishes that the maximum size of such graphs is . Similar bounds are obtained also for nonorientable surfaces. In the bipartite case for any nonnegative integers g, h, and k we provide a construction of arbitrarily large 2‐connected equimatchable bipartite graphs with orientable genus g, respectively nonorientable genus h, and a genus embedding with face‐width k. Finally, we prove that any d‐degenerate 2‐connected equimatchable factor‐critical graph has at most vertices, where a graph is d‐degenerate if every its induced subgraph contains a vertex of degree at most d.  相似文献

A star coloring of an undirected graph G is a proper vertex coloring of G (i.e., no two adjacent vertices are assigned the same color) such that no path on four vertices is 2‐colored. The star chromatic number of G is the smallest integer k for which G admits a star coloring with k colors. In this paper, we prove that every subcubic graph is 6‐star‐colorable. Moreover, the upper bound 6 is best possible, based on the example constructed by Fertin, Raspaud, and Reed (J Graph Theory 47(3) (2004), 140–153).  相似文献

In 1983, the second author [D. Maru?i?, Ars Combinatoria 16B (1983), 297–302] asked for which positive integers n there exists a non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph on n vertices. (The term non‐Cayley numbers has later been given to such integers.) Motivated by this problem, Feng [Discrete Math 248 (2002), 265–269] asked to determine the smallest valency ?(n) among valencies of non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graphs of order n. As cycles are clearly Cayley graphs, ?(n)?3 for any non‐Cayley number n. In this paper a goal is set to determine those non‐Cayley numbers n for which ?(n) = 3, and among the latter to determine those for which the generalized Petersen graphs are the only non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graphs of order n. It is known that for a prime p every vertex‐transitive graph of order p, p2 or p3 is a Cayley graph, and that, with the exception of the Coxeter graph, every cubic non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph of order 2p, 4p or 2p2 is a generalized Petersen graph. In this paper the next natural step is taken by proving that every cubic non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph of order 4p2, p>7 a prime, is a generalized Petersen graph. In addition, cubic non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graphs of order 2pk, where p>7 is a prime and k?p, are characterized. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 69: 77–95, 2012  相似文献

A graph is vertex?transitive or symmetric if its automorphism group acts transitively on vertices or ordered adjacent pairs of vertices of the graph, respectively. Let G be a finite group and S a subset of G such that 1?S and S={s?1 | sS}. The Cayleygraph Cay(G, S) on G with respect to S is defined as the graph with vertex set G and edge set {{g, sg} | gG, sS}. Feng and Kwak [J Combin Theory B 97 (2007), 627–646; J Austral Math Soc 81 (2006), 153–164] classified all cubic symmetric graphs of order 4p or 2p2 and in this article we classify all cubic symmetric graphs of order 2pq, where p and q are distinct odd primes. Furthermore, a classification of all cubic vertex‐transitive non‐Cayley graphs of order 2pq, which were investigated extensively in the literature, is given. As a result, among others, a classification of cubic vertex‐transitive graphs of order 2pq can be deduced. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 65: 285–302, 2010  相似文献
