In this paper, we describe a method for the growth of gold nanowires and nanoplates starting from a bilayer array of gold seeds, anchored on electrically conducting indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates. This is based on a seed-mediated growth approach, where the nanoparticles attached on the substrate through molecular linkages are converted to nanowires and nanoplates at certain cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) concentration. Our modified approach can be used to make nanowires of several tens of micrometers length at a lower CTAB concentration of 0.1 M. The length of the nanowires can be varied by adjusting the time of the reaction. As the concentration of CTAB was increased to 0.25 M, the nanoparticles got converted to nanoplates. These Au nanoplates are (111) oriented and are aligned parallel to the substrate.  相似文献

Deposition of small amount of Pt is reported onto polycrystalline Au from H2PtCl6-containing solutions. Spontaneous deposition, yielding about 5% of a full-packed monolayer, has been found at the steady-state open circuit potential. Formation of a somewhat more dense, but still a partial monolayer could be observed at potentials between the steady-state open circuit potential and that of the onset of bulk deposition. A specific difference of monolayer and bulk deposition is that Pt surface area levels off with time and keeps increasing for the former and latter types of deposition, respectively. Pt monolayers with quite high coverages can be formed in a rather narrow, 20?C30?mV potential region only. The surface areas of Pt and of the Pt-free Au have been simultaneously measured as cyclic voltammetry peak charges. From these measurements, the site requirement of the Pt atoms was determined to be around four; that is, each Pt atom blocks the oxidation of about four underlying/neighbouring Au atoms, implying their distant positions. Based on the results, Au surfaces coated with monoatomic Pt layers of quite high coverages can be prepared.  相似文献

The formation of monolayers of alkylsilanes on a gold surface is characterized by X-ray photoelectron and reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopies. The reaction occurs through the activation of multiple Si-H bonds. Reactivity of the newly synthesized systems to oxygen and water is reported.  相似文献

The oxidation of alkylsilane monolayers on Au has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy, contact-angle measurements, and scanning tunneling microscopy. Exposure of the monolayers at 298 K to pure O(2) or H(2)O (>5 x 10(-5) Torr and >150 000 L) does not cause oxidation. Ambient atmosphere only causes oxidation if direct sight lines are maintained to the sample. Ozone exposure results in rapid monolayer oxidation. Oxidation initially occurs only at the Si atom, resulting in formation of a cross-linked siloxane monolayer that retains alkyl surface termination. Prolonged ozone exposures result in the oxidation and subsequent loss of the alkyl chain.  相似文献

The self-assembly of hydrogen-bonded aggregates (rosettes) in solvent mixtures of different polarity has been studied by calorimetry. The C(50) parameter, the concentration when 50 % of the components are incorporated in the assembly, is used to compare assemblies with different stoichiometry. C(50) for the single rosette 1(3).(BuCYA)(3) (1=N,N-di(4-tert-butylphenyl)melamine; BuCYA=n-butylcyanuric acid) in 1,2-dichloroethane is 25 microM, whereas for double rosettes 2 a(3).(BuCYA)(6) and 2 b(3).(BuCYA) (2=calix[4]arene-dimelamine) it is 0.7 and 7.1 microM, respectively. DeltaG degrees, DeltaH degrees, and TDeltaS degrees values indicate that the thermodynamics of double rosettes reflect the independent assembly of two individual single rosette structures or two rosettes reinforced by additional stabilizing interactions. In more polar solvents the stability of double rosettes decreases. From the correlation of DeltaG degrees with solvent polarity it is predicted that it should be possible to assemble double rosettes in methanol or water. The assembly of 2 b(3).(BuCYA)(6) in 100 % MeOH was proven by (1)H NMR and CD spectroscopy.  相似文献

The application of a potential to deposit a monolayer of 3-mercaptopropionic acid-histidinyl-histidinyl-histidinyl-aspartyl-aspartyl (3-MPA-HHHDD-OH) controls the density and molecular structure of the peptide monolayer, which results in different wettabilities of the surface, surface density, orientation of the molecule (extended or bent), and nonspecific adsorption of serum proteins. 3-MPA-HHHDD-OH must be deposited at 200 mV to maintain an extended configuration, which promoted low biofouling properties.  相似文献

A one-step, nontemplated, low-cost electrochemical method for the growth of gold nanostructures with different shapes is reported here. It is the first time that nanopyramidal, nanorod-like, and spherical gold nanostructures were fabricated on polycrystalline gold substrates through electrochemical overpotential deposition (OPD) by easily manipulating the deposited potentials and concentrations of HAuCl4. X-ray diffraction and electrochemical analyses revealed that the pyramidal structures are more extensively dominated by (111) facets in comparison with the other nanostructures. The nanopyramids, which have anisotropic structures, exhibited broad extinction over the visible region, most likely due to plasmon resonance. Oxygen reduction activity of a gold electrode with the pyramidal structures was lower than those of the electrodes with the other nanostructures since the activity at the gold (111) surface is lower than that at the (100) and (110) surfaces.  相似文献

In this report, we describe the visible-laser desorption/ionization of biomolecules deposited on gold-coated porous silicon and gold nanorod arrays. The porous silicon made by electrochemical etching was coated with gold using argon ion sputtering. The gold nanorod arrays were fabricated by electrodepositing gold onto a porous alumina template, and the subsequent partial removal of the alumina template. A frequency-doubled/tripled Nd : YAG laser was used to irradiate the gold nanostructured substrate, and the desorbed molecular ions were mass-analyzed by a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The desorption/ionization of biomolecules for both substrates was favored by the use of the 532-nm visible-laser, which is in the range of the localized surface plasmon resonance of the gold nanostructure. The present technique offers a potential analytical method for low-molecular-weight analytes that are rather difficult to handle in the conventional matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry.  相似文献

The directed placement of Cu nanostructures on surfaces has been studied using a combination of scanning probe lithography and electroless metal deposition onto nanopatterned SAMs of 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (16-MHA) on Au. In situ studies using nanoscale molecular gradients reveal how controlling the areal density of the 16-MHA molecules dictates the nucleation and growth of the metal nanostructures. The influence of controlling pattern line spacing and tip path on pattern feature fidelity is also discussed.  相似文献

XPS and AES are suitable techniques for studying organic monolayers on metals if radiation doses are kept low. The adsorption of self-assembled (SA) mercaptan monolayers on gold is a process in two stages. The adsorption to near completeness is very rapid. However, the process of orientation of the carbon chains, which is responsible for the blocking of electrochemical reactions takes much longer, as could be shown by ARXPS (angle resolved X-ray photo electron spectroscopy). Adsorption under potential control allows electrochemical experiments during the adsorption process as e.g. the measurement of the capacity of the electric double layer. Furthermore the control of the potential guarantees sure that the metal/liquid interface is well defined during the adsorption process.  相似文献

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with metal electrodes, especially thiols on gold, are the subject of this investigation because of the unique properties of SAM-modified surfaces. Normal alkanethiols are used to modify the surface of a conventional gold electrode to block certain ions such as Pb(II) and Cu(II) from the surface of the electrode. Normal alkanethiols are also used to study the SAM-gold interfacial adsorption-desorption behavior of the self-assembled monolayer. The effects of varying chain length of SAMs, varying concentration of the alkanethiol solutions, immersion time of the pure gold electrode in the SAM solution, and the stability of a SAM-modified gold electrode in fresh chloroform are investigated using the oxidation-reduction peaks of gold. Conditions that optimize the surface coverage and the uniformity of the SAMs have been determined. Normal alkanethiols proved to be a good insulator on the electrode surface. Self-assembled monolayers of 1-teradecanethiol on gold were characterized by means of FTIR-ATR measurements, XPS and contact angle measurements. Linear dichroism measurements using FTIR-ATR are used to estimate the orientation of the alkyl chains. An equation for calculating the orientation angles of the alkyls chains was deduced.  相似文献

This report describes the reactivity of acid fluoride (AF)-terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold toward amine and alcohol compounds and the potentiality of AF as a reactive intermediate for surface functionalizations. The AF group was generated in situ on a gold surface by reacting the terminal carboxylic acid group in the SAM of 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid with cyanuric fluoride and pyridine under the optimized conditions. AF was found to be highly reactive toward various amine groups, such as primary and secondary amines, but it did not react effectively with alcohol. In addition, the amide coupling reaction by microcontact printing (microCP) was compared with the solution-based reaction: when amine-derivatized ferrocene compound was used for 1-min microCP on the AF-activated surface, the surface coverage of the reaction product was about 83% of 3.45 x 1014 cm-2, the coverage obtained in the solution-based reaction. On the basis of the high reaction efficiency of microCP, the AF-activated surface was also used as a platform for patterning a biological ligand, biotin.  相似文献

Stability of self-assembled monolayers on titanium and gold   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Methyl- and hydroxyl-terminated phosphonic acid self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were coated on Ti from aqueous solution. Dodecyl phosphate and dodecyltrichlorosilane SAMs were also coated on Ti using solution-phase deposition. The stability of SAMs on Ti was investigated in Tris-buffered saline (TBS) at 37 degrees C using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, contact angle goniometry, and atomic force microscopy. For comparison purposes, a hydroxyl-terminated thiol SAM was coated on Au, and its stability was also investigated under similar conditions. In TBS, a significant proportion of phosphonic acid or phosphate molecules were desorbed from the Ti surface within 1 day, while the trichlorosilane SAM on Ti or thiol SAM on Au was stable for up to 7 days under similar conditions. The stability of hydroxyl-terminated phosphonic acid SAM coated Ti and thiol SAM coated Au was investigated in ambient air and ultraviolet (UV) light. In ambient air, the phosphonic acid SAM on Ti was stable for up to 14 days, while the thiol SAM on Au was not stable for 1 day. Under UV-radiation exposure, the alkyl chains of the phosphonic acid SAM were decomposed, leaving only the phosphonate groups on the Ti surface after 12 h. Under similar conditions, decomposition of alkyl chains of the thiol SAM was observed on the Au surface accompanied by oxidation of thiolates.  相似文献

We studied the incorporation of various small guest molecules into calix[4]hydroquinone nanotubes and nanoclusters using solid-state proton NMR spectroscopy in combination with quantum chemical calculations. While the molecules exhibit different types of hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions, they show different affinities to the nanotube host structures. As the guest molecules are located inside the complexes, they experience a shift in the NMR resonance line caused by screening effects from the aromatic electrons of the host superstructure. The abilities to fill the otherwise empty space within the tubes can hence be measured indirectly by the displacement of the NMR lines relative to the free molecules. In this way, we can probe which guest molecules are recognized by the calix[4]hydroquinones as suitable for filling their nanoporous superstructures. Selective guest-host interactions have been successfully achieved for the three component mixture of water and acetone with either 2-methyl-2-propanol or 2-propanol. In both cases, the alcohols were superior to acetone in filling the CHQ tubes.  相似文献

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been widely used in studying interfacial phenomena, biological processes, electrochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, photoactivity and molecular interaction. Much research has been carried out in fabricating and removing SAMs on different substrates. In this work, we report for the first time, to our knowledge, that SAMs of thiolates on gold can be removed by immersing SAMs in 0.5 M NaBH 4 solution for 10 min. The procedure of removing thiolates was very convenient. Cyclic voltammetry, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize this process. The results indicated that the SAMs of thiolates on gold can be removed efficiently by NaBH 4.  相似文献

Self-assembled aggregates of amphiphilic surfactant molecules formed on solid surfaces are similar to biological membranes. To understand the formation mechanism of these aggregates, we have studied the formation of self-organized monolayers from low-concentration sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aqueous solutions (concentration below the critical micelle concentration) on gold surfaces. The study has been carried out by using simultaneously quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and open circuit potential measurements in situ. We have developed a model which explains the variation of the QCM frequency and open circuit potential following SDS additions to water. The dominant growth mechanism during the major part of film formation was demonstrated to be surface diffusion of surfactant molecules.  相似文献
