A new plant growth regulator of microbial origin

A new plant growth regulator — an inhibitor of the germination of mustard seeds — has been isolated from a culture filtrate of a phytopathogenic fungus of the genusPhoma. The methyl and trimethylsilyl derivatives of this compound have been obtained. Its empirical formula — C₁₆H₂₂O₅ — has been determined. On the basis of the results of IR and NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, the compound isolated has been assigned the structure of 3,5-dihydroxy-2-octanoylphenylacetic acid.All-Union Scientific-Research Institute of Applied Molecular Biology and Genetics. A new N-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid — intebrine, with the composition C₂₀H₁₉NO₇ — has been isolated fromBerberis integerrima Bunge. The spatial structure of intebrine has been reliably determined by the x-ray structural method (diffractometer, CuK radiation, 972 reflections, direct method, R=0.048). The structure of karatavic acid

Conclusions Karatavic acid has been isolated from the resin of the roots ofFerula karatavica Rgl. et Schmalh; this is an ether of umbelliferone and a hydroxy acid C₁₅H₂₄O₃ probably having the humulane type of hydrocarbon skeleton. Synthesis of regecoline

An improved synthesis of the quaternary homoproaporphine alkaloid regecoline from the main alkaloid ofColchicum kesselringii Rgl. — kesselringine — has been carried out by two methods: by photochemical conversion (yield 77%) and by iodine oxidation (yield 86%). The seed oils of some species of the family Cruciferae
