We present a framework aimed to reveal directed interactions of activated brain areas using time-resolved fMRI and vector autoregressive (VAR) modeling in the context of Granger causality. After describing the underlying mathematical concepts, we present simulations helping to characterize the conditions under which VAR modeling and Granger causality can reveal directed interactions from fluctuations in BOLD-like signal time courses. We apply the proposed approach to a dynamic sensorimotor mapping paradigm. In an event-related fMRI experiment, subjects performed a visuomotor mapping task for which the mapping of two stimuli (“faces” vs “houses”) to two responses (“left” or “right”) alternated periodically between the two possible mappings. Besides expected activity in sensory and motor areas, a fronto-parietal network was found to be active during presentation of a cue indicating a change in the stimulus-response (S-R) mapping. The observed network includes the superior parietal lobule and premotor areas. These areas might be involved in setting up and maintaining stimulus-response associations. The Granger causality analysis revealed a directed influence exerted by the left lateral prefrontal cortex and premotor areas on the left posterior parietal cortex.  相似文献

Forty normally speaking women sustained /a/ five times in two conditions,untimed and timed. In the untimed condition, phonation began whenever the subject felt ready. The timed task required subjects to begin phonation as quickly as possible after the examiner's signal. Conditions were counterbalanced across subjects. Jitter and shimmer values were obtained on a Kay Elemetrics Computerized Speech Lab (Pine Brook, NJ). Three distinct patterns of change emerged for fitter and shimmer from the untimed to the timed condition, reflecting either decreases, increases, or no change in values. These changes in jitter and shimmer values across conditions are related to a reaction time model of “bias toward accuracy.”  相似文献

Recently a new high-order formulation for 1D conservation laws was developed by Huynh using the idea of “flux reconstruction”. The formulation was capable of unifying several popular methods including the discontinuous Galerkin, staggered-grid multi-domain method, or the spectral difference/spectral volume methods into a single family. The extension of the method to quadrilateral and hexahedral elements is straightforward. In an attempt to extend the method to other element types such as triangular, tetrahedral or prismatic elements, the idea of “flux reconstruction” is generalized into a “lifting collocation penalty” approach. With a judicious selection of solution points and flux points, the approach can be made simple and efficient to implement for mixed grids. In addition, the formulation includes the discontinuous Galerkin, spectral volume and spectral difference methods as special cases. Several test problems are presented to demonstrate the capability of the method.  相似文献

Noncommutative Chern–Simons’ system is non-perturbatively investigated at a full deformed level. A deformed “commutative” phase space is found by a non-canonical change between two sets of deformed variables of noncommutative space. It is explored that in the “commutative” phase space all calculations are similar to the case in commutative space. Spectra of its energy and angular momentum of the Chern–Simons’ system are obtained at the full deformed level. The noncommutative–commutative correspondence is clearly showed. Formalism for the general dynamical system is briefly presented. Some subtle points are clarified.  相似文献

I review the present status of two related models addressing scenarios in which the formation of heavy quarkonium states in high energy heavy ion collisions proceed via “off-diagonal” combinations of a quark and an antiquark. The physical process involved belongs to a general class of quark “recombination”, although technically the recombining quarks here were never previously bound in a quarkonium state. The subject of this paper is the determination of attenuation coefficients of single mode optical fiber standards used in both loss and distance scales calibrations of OTDR instruments by applying “cut-back” method, and “loop transit time” measurements. In cut-back measurements a modified radiometer with InGaAs having 5 mm diameter active area, cooled to 77 K, was constructed and used. To derive attenuation coefficients after the completion of cut-back measurements, the loop transit time measurements were performed for standard fibers. Total expanded uncertainty was calculated as 3.30×10-3 for determination of attenuation coefficients.  相似文献

There is a commonly perceived difference in the sound produced in the approximate range D4-D5 by female singers in the western opera and concert tradition, on the one hand, and certain other styles, including rock, pop, folk, and some Broadway musicals, on the other. The term “belting” is sometimes used to refer to at least one approach to such “nonclassical” singing. In this study, based on spectrographic, electroglottographic, and sub- and supraglottal pressure measurements on representative voices of the “operatic” and “nonclassical” tradition, acoustic and laryngeal differences between the two traditions are described, and an objective, specific definition of “belting” is offered.  相似文献

Using spatially modulated illumination (SMI) light microscopy it is possible to measure the sizes of fluorescent structures that have an extension far below the conventional optical resolution limit (“subresolution size”). Presently, the sizes are determined as the object extension along the optical axis of the SMI microscope. For this, however, “a priori” assumptions on the fluorochrome distribution (“shape”) within the examined fluorescent structure have to be made. Usually it is assumed that the fluorochrome follows a Gauss-distribution or a spherical distribution. In this report we overcome the necessity to make an assumption on the shape of the fluorochrome distribution. We introduce two new experimentally obtained parameters which allow the determination of a shape measure to describe the spatial distribution of the fluorescent dye. This becomes possible by independent measurements with different excitation wavelengths. As an example, we present shape parameter measurements on individual fluorescent microspheres with a nominal geometrical diameter (“size”) of 190 nm. In the case investigated, the experimental shape correlated well with a homogeneous fluorochrome distribution (“spherical shape”) but not with a variety of other “shapes”.  相似文献

Singers are extremely conscious of health problems that affect their voices and well-being and often take an active role in seeking care for these problems. They frequently seek treatment from providers or with modalities considered “alternative” to traditional medical care. A survey of singers was completed to elucidate their attitudes and practices regarding “alternative modalities” of medical care. Frequently singers will self-medicate or take advice from people not well versed in the special needs of a professional voice user. They will fail to share this information with the physician when seeking “traditional” medical care. These practices may predispose the singer to suboptimal or even dangerous care. These results are discussed, as well as the implications for the medical physician treating the singer. The possible detrimental pharmacologic effects of “natural therapies” widely used by singers are presented, with special attention to the particular concerns for the professional singer  相似文献

A new approach to the theory of temporal aberration for cathode lenses is given in the present paper. A definition of temporal aberration is given in which a certain initial energy of electron emission along the axial direction εz1 (0εz1ε0max) is considered. A new method to calculate the temporal aberration coefficients of cathode lenses named “direct integral method” is also presented. The “direct integral method” gives new expressions of the temporal aberration coefficients which are expressed in integral forms. The difference between “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” is that the “τ-variation method” needs to solve the differential equations for the three of temporal geometrical aberration coefficients of second order, while the “direct integral method” only needs to carry out the integral calculation for all of these temporal aberration coefficients of second order.All of the formulae of the temporal aberration coefficients deduced from “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” have been verified by an electrostatic concentric spherical system model, and contrasted with the analytical solutions. Results show that these two methods have got identical solutions and the solutions of temporal aberration coefficients of the first and second order are the same as with the analytical solutions. Although some forms of the results seem different, but they can be transformed into the same form. Thus, it can be concluded these two methods given by us are equivalent and correct, but the “direct integral method” is related to solve integral equations, which is more convenient for computation and could be suggested for use in practical design.  相似文献

The growth and morphological evolution of molybdenum-oxide microstructures formed in the high temperature environment of a counter-flow oxy-fuel flame using molybdenum probes is studied. Experiments conducted using various probe retention times show the sequence of the morphological changes. The morphological row begins with micron size objects exhibiting polygonal cubic shape, develops into elongated channels, changes to large structures with leaf-like shape, and ends in dendritic structures. Time of probe–flame interaction is found to be a governing parameter controlling the wide variety of morphological patterns; a molecular level growth mechanism is attributed to their development. This study reveals that the structures are grown in several consecutive stages: material “evaporation and transportation”, “transformation”, “nucleation”, “initial growth”, “intermediate growth”, and “final growth”. XRD analysis shows that the chemical compositions of all structures correspond to MoO2.  相似文献

An automated scheme is described which locates the centers of cross peaks in two-dimensional correlation spectra, even under conditions of severe overlap. Double-quantum-filtered correlation (DQ-COSY) spectra have been investigated, but the method is also applicable to TOCSY and NOESY spectra. The search criterion is the intrinsic symmetry (or antisymmetry) of cross-peak multiplets. An initial global search provides the preliminary information to build up a two-dimensional “chemical shift grid.” All genuine cross peaks must be centered at intersections of this grid, a fact that reduces the extent of the subsequent search program enormously. The program recognizes cross peaks by examining the symmetry of signals in a test zone centered at a grid intersection. This “symmetry filter” employs a “lowest value algorithm” to discriminate against overlapping responses from adjacent multiplets. A progressive multiplet subtraction scheme provides further suppression of overlap effects. The processed two-dimensional correlation spectrum represents cross peaks as points at the chemical shift coordinates, with some indication of their relative intensities. Alternatively, the information is presented in the form of a correlation table. The authenticity of a given cross peak is judged by a set of “confidence criteria” expressed as numerical parameters. Experimental results are presented for the 400-MHz double-quantum-filtered COSY spectrum of 4-androsten-3,17-dione, a case where there is severe overlap.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the employment of a ternary line coding technique based on Ungerboeck's trellis-coded method in asynchronous optical CDMA systems. The ternary coding we use is predicated upon the equal-weight orthogonal (EWO) scheme. Each user transmits two mutually orthogonal signature sequences to represent “+1” and “−1”, respectively, and nothing is transmitted for “0”. The receiver employs a maximum-likelihood soft-decoder to select the path with minimum Euclidean distance as the preferred path. This trellis ternary coding scheme applies set partitioning with partially overlapping subsets to increase the free Euclidean distance, which considerably improves system performance. Furthermore, due to line coding technique, such scheme comprises sufficient clock information, and thus benefits for baseband timing extraction (i.e. clock recovery). Numerical results reveal that the proposed trellis ternary coding scheme can significantly reduce the error floor and allow more active users to be accommodated in the network.  相似文献

A new concept and the method are presented to obtain a laser beam output with high luminance and quality. Instead of using the conventional concept of “obtaining a single transverse mode through compressing the oscillating mode volume using a small aperture diaphragm”, the large multimode volume and the high output power are obtained by studying the physical mechanism of the expansion and coupling between a Bessel beam and a Gaussian beam. A high quality light beam (close to the diffraction limit) with high luminance and large intensity difference between the center and the edge is achieved simultaneously.  相似文献

We show that the K–K spectrum of IIB string on is described by “twisted chiral” superfields, naturally described in “harmonic superspace”, obtained by taking suitable gauge singlets polynomials of the D3-brane boundary superconformal field theory.To each p-order polynomial is associated a massive K–K short representation with states. The quadratic polynomial corresponds to the “supercurrent multiplet” describing the “massless” bulk graviton multiplet.  相似文献

Although there has been continuing interest in voice quality, much of this research has focused on the vocal folds rather than the supraglottal structures. This paper reports the use of videoendoscopy for studying supraglottal participation in various singing tasks. In a preliminary study presented last year by the present authors, CT scanning was used to corroborate videoendoscopic observation. Vocal tract activities observed included variation of laryngeal height with pitch, variation of pharyngeal wall dimension with pitch and vowel, and marked supraglottic constriction with certain vocal imitations. In order to gain a better understanding of vocal training, and its effect upon vocal tract physiology, a study was designed using videoendoscopy to observe singers with significant experience and training while performing various vocal tasks. The tasks focused on the following: (1) vocal tract activity associated with pitch changes; (2) the physiology involved in the production of “cover”; (3) the structures involved in the production of vibrato; and (4) the physiology of the singer's “ring.” It would appear that videoendoscopy will become increasingly more valuable to the voice community as our understanding of vocal tract physiology improves.  相似文献
