The effects of magnetic layer thickness on film structural and magnetic properties were studied systematically with emphasis on the thermal effects on thin recording media films. X-ray diffraction measurements reveal structural changes as thickness decreases, and the existence of a “Cr enriched phase” associated with the interface. The saturation magnetization Ms decreases with thickness and the thickness of the “dead layer” was found to be ∼23 Å. Systematic measurements of effective anisotropy, coercivity and saturation magnetization as functions of temperature have been carried out. Magnetic viscosity measurements reveal that thermal stability is affected not only by grain sizes but also by anisotropy reduction associated with nanostructure evolution, as the film thickness decreases.  相似文献

We report the structural and transport properties of NdNiO3 thin films prepared via pulsed laser deposition over various substrates. The films were well textured and c-axis oriented with good crystalline properties. The electrical resistivity of the films undergoes a metal-insulator transition, depending on the deposition process. Well-defined first order metal-insulator phase transition (TMI) was observed in the best quality films without high pressure processing. Various growth conditions such as substrate temperature, oxygen pressure and thickness were varied to see their influence on TMI. Deposition temperature was found to have a great impact on the electrical and structural properties of these films. Further the films deposited on LaAlO3 substrate were found to be highly oriented with uniform grain size as observed from X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy, whereas those on Si substrate were polycrystalline, dense and randomly oriented.  相似文献

Transparent pure and Fe-doped SnO2 thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition technique on LaAlO3 substrates. X-ray diffraction shows that the films are polycrystalline and have the rutile structure. Surprisingly, the pure film presents magnetic-like behavior at room temperature with a saturated magnetization of almost one-third of the doped film (∼3.6 and 11.3 emu/g, respectively) and its magnetization could not be attributed to any impurity phase. Taking into account the magnetic moment measured in the pure film, the effective contribution of the impurity in the doped one can be inferred to be ∼2 μB per Fe atom. A large magnetic moment was also predicted by an ab initio calculation in the doped system, which increases if an oxygen vacancy is present near the Fe impurity.  相似文献

In this study, La0.5Ca0.5MnO3 (LCMO) films, at the boundary between ferromagnetic metallic and charge-ordered antiferromagnetic insulator according to the bulk phase diagram, were epitaxially grown on (0 0 1) SrTiO3 (STO) and SrLaAlO4 (SLAO) substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique. The films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, magnetization and magnetoresistance measurements. A considerably higher magnetization was measured for 290-nm-thick film on SLAO substrate compared to the film on STO substrate, although both films have the same chemical composition, thickness and epitaxial orientation. The film on SLAO shows a metal-insulator (MI) transition, which occurs at higher temperatures with increasing applied magnetic field, whereas only insulating behavior was observed for the 290-nm-thick film on STO except for the highest applied magnetic field (7 T). In addition, transport measurements were performed and analyzed by Mott's variable range hopping (VRH) model to correlate the resistivity of the films with the Jahn-Teller strain (εJ−T) in the structure.  相似文献

CdSe thin films were deposited on glass substrates using Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) method at room temperature and ambient pressure. The relationship between refractive index and energy bandgap was investigated. The film thickness effect on the structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of CdSe thin films was investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies showed that all the films exhibit polycrystalline nature with hexagonal structure and are covered well with glass substrates. The crystalline and surface properties of the films improved with increasing film thickness. The optical absorption studies revealed that the films are found to be a direct allowed transition. The energy bandgap values were changed from 1.93 to 1.87 eV depending on the film thickness. The electron effective mass (me?/mo), refractive index (n), optical static and high frequency dielectric constant (εo, ε) values were calculated by using the energy bandgap values as a function of the film thickness. The resistivity of the films changed between 106 and 102 Ω-cm with increasing film thickness at room temperature.  相似文献

Thin films of In-doped Ge-S in the form of Ge35In8S57 with different film thickness were deposited using an evaporation method. The X-ray diffraction studies demonstrate that the as-prepared films are amorphous in nature for these films. Some optical constants were calculated at a thickness of 150, 300, 450 and 900?nm and annealing temperature of 373, 413, 437 and 513?K. Our optical observations show that the mechanism of the optical transition obeys the indirect transition. It was found that the energy gap, Eg, decreases from 2.44 to 2.20?eV with expanding the thickness of the film from 150 to 900?nm. On the other hand, it was found that Eg increases with annealing temperature from 373 to 513?K. The increment in the band gap can be attributed to the gradual annealing out of the unsaturated bonds delivering a decreasing the density of localized states in the band structure. Using the single oscillator model, the dispersion of the refractive index is described. The dispersion constants of these films were calculated with different both thickness and annealing temperatures. Additionally, both of nonlinear susceptibility, χ(3) and nonlinear refractive index, n2 were calculated.  相似文献

We report structural, magnetic and electronic structure study of Mn doped TiO2 thin films grown using pulsed laser deposition method. The films were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), dc magnetization, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy measurements. XRD results indicate that films exhibit single phase nature with rutile structure and exclude the secondary phase related to Mn metal cluster or any oxide phase of Mn. Magnetization studies reveal that both the films (3% and 5% Mn doped TiO2) exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism and saturation magnetization increases with increase in concentration of Mn doping. The spectral features of XMCD at Mn L3,2 edge show that Mn2+ ions contribute to the ferromagnetism. NEXAFS spectra measured at O K edge show a strong hybridization between Mn, Ti 3d and O 2p orbitals. NEXAFS spectra measured at Mn and Ti L3,2 edge show that Mn exist in +2 valence state, whereas, Ti is in +4 state in Mn doped TiO2 films.  相似文献

Epitaxial TbMnO3 films have been fabricated on SrTiO3(001) and LaAlO3(001) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD), the structure and surface morphology of the films were characterized by X-ray diffraction with Cu Kα radiation and atomic force microscopy. The electrical transport and magnetic properties of the TbMnO3 films and bulk were examined, the resistivity and the forbidden band width Eg change with epitaxial orientation, semiconductor transport properties are found in the films and bulk, the average of the Eg of the films on SrTiO3 and on LaAlO3 is equal to the Eg of the bulk. The two TMO films have different magnetization mode, the magnetization of the film on SrTiO3 have an analogy to that of TbMnO3 single crystal.  相似文献

VO2 thin films are grown on glass substrates by pulsed laser deposition using vanadium metal as a target. In this study, a ZnO thin film was used as a buffer layer for the growth of VO2 thin films on glass substrates. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the VO2 thin film had b-axis preferential orientation on a c-axis oriented ZnO buffer layer. The thickness of the ZnO buffer layer and the oxygen pressure during VO2 deposition were optimized to grow highly b-axis oriented VO2 thin films. The metal-insulator transition properties of the VO2 film samples were investigated in terms of infrared reflectance and electrical resistance with varying temperatures.  相似文献

The Morin transition of very thin Ir-doped α-Fe2O3 films, which is not detectable with conventional magnetization measurements, was studied by conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy using a 57Co source and nuclear resonant scattering using a synchrotron light source. It was found that (i) the Morin transition temperature increases as the Ir ratio increases, (ii) it decreases when the film thickness decreases, and (iii) the transition becomes irreversible when Ir ratio is small and the thickness is thin. These tendencies were found reproducible and systematic, although the mechanisms are to be clarified by further studies.  相似文献

The Sm2Co17-based intermetallic films with additives of Fe, Cu, and Zr have been deposited on Si(1 0 0) substrates by dc magnetron sputtering process. Subsequent thermal treatment and the film thickness are found to have significant contribution to the crystal structure and grain structure, which determines the magnetization reversal process and intrinsic coercivity (HC) of these films. The conventional thermal annealing (CTA) treatment almost failed to crystallize the as-deposited films, leading to a very low HC. Continuous and homogeneous domain walls cannot form in this deteriorated microstructure, so that the pinning mechanism can be excluded. Contrarily, the films with thickness exceeding 0.8 μm treated by rapid recurrent thermal annealing (RRTA) show an improved HC, which is attributed to the observed completed crystallization and compact microstructure. It is suggested that this film structure is responsible for providing continuous and homogeneous domain walls, leading to a magnetization reversal process controlled by domain wall pinning model. In special, the HC of the RRTA-treated film with thickness of 1.8 μm shows a good temperature dependence from 25 to 300 °C, with intrinsic coercivity temperature coefficient β of −0.23%/°C.  相似文献

High-k polycrystalline Pr2O3 and amorphous LaAlO3 oxide thin films deposited on Si(0 0 1) are studied. The microstructure is investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Optical properties are determined in the 0.75-6.5 eV photon energy range using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The polycrystalline Pr2O3 films have an optical gap of 3.86 eV and a dielectric constant of 16-26, which increases with film thickness. Similarly, very thin amorphous LaAlO3 films have the optical gap of 5.8 eV, and a dielectric constant below 14 which also increases with film thickness. The lower dielectric constant compared to crystalline material is an intrinsic characteristic of amorphous films.  相似文献

~2 μm thick Mn1.56Co0.96Ni0.48O4 (MCN) films have been prepared on a Al2O3 substrate by the chemical solution deposition method. X-ray diffraction and microstructure analyses show good crystallization and the thickness of the films is 2.12 μm. Mid-infrared optical properties of MCN films have been investigated using transmission spectra and infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry. The optical band gap of the MCN film has been derived to be 0.64 eV by assuming a direct transition between valence and conduction bands. The optical constants and thickness of the thin films have been obtained by fitting the measured ellipsometric parameter data with the classical infrared model. The refractive index n of the MCN films decreases as the wavelength increases, but the extinction coefficient k monotonously increases in the wavelength range of 2–7 μm. The maximal n value is 2.63, and the maximal k value is only 0.024. The above results are instructive for the applications of MCN films in infrared detecting.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of thin epitaxial films BaTiO3/MgO is studied by the dynamic 3ω method in the thickness range 50–500 nm. It is revealed that the heat capacity exhibits diffuse anomalies due to phase transitions. The temperature of the ferroelectric phase transition T C increases with decreasing film thickness. The reasons for the strong diffuseness of the transition and the nonlinear dependence of the transition temperature on the film thickness are discussed.  相似文献

We present here a comparative study on structural and magnetic properties of bulk and thin films of Mg0.95Mn0.05Fe2O4 ferrite deposited on two different substrates using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and dc magnetization measurements. XRD pattern indicates that the bulk sample and their thin films exhibit a polycrystalline single phase cubic spinel structure. It is found that the film deposited on indium tin oxide coated glass (ITO) substrate has smaller grain size than the film deposited on platinum coated silicon (Pt–Si) substrate. Study of magnetization hysteresis loop measurements infer that the bulk sample of Mg0.95Mn0.05Fe2O4 and its thin film deposited on Pt–Si substrate shows a well-defined hysteresis loop at room temperature, which reflects its ferrimagnetic behavior. However, the film deposited on ITO does not show any hysteresis, which reflects its superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature.  相似文献

Influence of both substrate temperature, Ts, and annealing temperature, Ta, on the structural, electrical and microstructural properties of sputtered deposited Pt thin films have been investigated. X-ray diffraction results show that as deposited Pt films (Ts = 300, 400 °C) are preferentially oriented along (1 1 1) direction. A little growth both along (2 0 0) and (3 1 1) directions are also noticed in the as deposited Pt films. After annealing in air (Ta = 500-700 °C), films become strongly oriented along (1 1 1) plane. With annealing temperature, average crystallite size, D, of the Pt films increases and micro-strain, e, and lattice constant, a0, decreases. Residual strain observed in the as deposited Pt films is found to be compressive in nature while that in the annealed films is tensile. This change in the strain from compressive to tensile upon annealing is explained in the light of mismatch between the thermal expansion coefficients of the film material and substrate. Room temperature resistivity of Pt films is dependant on both the Ts and Ta of the films. Observed decrease in the film resistivity with Ta is discussed in terms of annihilation of film defects and grain-boundary. Scanning electron microscopic study reveals that as the annealing temperature increases film densification improves. But at an annealing temperature of ∼600 °C, pinholes appear on the film surface and the size of pinhole increases with further increase in the annealing temperature. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis, existence of a thin layer of chemisorbed atomic oxygen is detected on the surfaces of the as deposited Pt films. Upon annealing, coverage of this surface oxygen increases.  相似文献

(Pb,Ca)TiO3 (PCT) thin films have been deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate by metal-organic decomposition (MOD) technique. The film processing parameters such as drying and annealing temperatures have been optimized to obtain good-quality PCT films. Compositional analysis of the film has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The effect of the annealing temperature on the crystalline structure, microstructure and electrical properties have been investigated by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and impedance analyzer, respectively. Amorphous PCT films form at 350 °C and crystallize in the perovskite phase following the isothermal annealing at ?650 °C for 3 h in oxygen ambient. Typical tetragonal structure of the PCT film is evidenced from X-ray diffraction pattern. The grain size in the PCT films increases with an increase in annealing temperature. Significant improvement in the dielectric constant value is observed as compared to other reported work on PCT films. The observed dielectric constant and dissipation factor at 100 kHz for 650 °C annealed PCT films are 308 and 0.015, respectively. The correlation of the film microstructural features and electrical behaviors is described.  相似文献

Optical non destructive evaluation methods, using lasers as the object illumination source, include holographic interferometry. It is widely used to measure stress, strain, and vibration in engineering structures. Double exposure holographic interferometry (DEHI) technique is used to determine thickness and stress of electrodeposited bismuth trisulphide (Bi2S3) thin films for various deposition times. The same is tested for other concentration of the precursors. It is observed that, increase in deposition time, increases thickness of thin film but decreases stress to the substrate. The structural, optical and surface wettability properties of the as deposited films have been studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical absorption and contact angle measurement, respectively. The X-ray diffraction study reveals that the films are polycrystalline with orthorhombic crystal structure. Optical absorption study shows the presence of direct transition with band bap 1.78 eV. The water contact angle measurement shows hydrophobic nature of Bi2S3 thin film surface.  相似文献

FexNi100−x thin films were produced by galvanostatic electrodeposition on Si (1 0 0), nominal thickness 2800 nm, and x ranging 7-20. The crystalline structure of the sample was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The magnetic properties were investigated by vibration sample magnetometry (VSM) and room temperature 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. Conversion Electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) in both film surfaces for the thick self-supported films showed that the magnetic moment direction is in the plane and conventional transmission (MS) that the directions are out of the plane films. The results were interpreted assuming a three-layer model where the external layer has in-plane magnetization and the internal one, out of plane magnetization.  相似文献
