The compatibility conditions matching macroscopic mechanical fields at the contact surface between fluid-saturated porous solid and adjacent bulk fluid are considered. Special attention is paid to the derivation of conditions for tangential components of the fluid flow velocities and to the verification of validity of the condition postulated by Beavers and Joseph. It has been shown that at the contact surface between two media, a dissipation of mechanical energy due to the fluid viscosity does exist and thus the form of a dissipation function has been proposed. It has been proven that this relation determines the form of two linear compatibility conditions derived for the tangential components of the relative fluid velocities and that these conditions describe the experimental results more precisely than the condition postulated by Beavers and Joseph.  相似文献

The contact boundary conditions at the interface between two fluid-saturated porous bodies are derived. The general derivation is performed within the well-founded framework of the Theory of Porous Media (TPM) based on the constituent balance relations of mass, momentum, and energy accounting for finite discontinuities at the contact surface. Particular attention is drawn to the effects associated with the interstitial fluid flux across the interface. The derived contact conditions include two kinematic continuity conditions for the solid velocity and the fluid seepage velocity as well as two jump conditions for the effective solid stress and the pore-fluid pressure. As an application, the common case of biphasic porous media contact proceeding from materially incompressible constituents and inviscid fluid properties is discussed in detail.   相似文献

Abstract

We consider the nonlinear aeroelasticity problem of the interaction between a viscous, incompressible fluid and Lin elastic solid undergoing large displacement. The non-linearities of the problem formulation include the solid and fluid governing equations. as well as thc dependence of the How geometry on the solid deformation. The resulting coupling is thus two-way. We develop domain-decomposition methods for solution and sensitivity analysis of the coupled problem. The domain decomposition is in the form of a block-Gauss-Seidel-like prcconditioncr that decomposes ihc coupled-domain problem into distinct nonovcrlapping fluid and solid subdotnain problems. The preconditioner thus enables exploitation or single-domain algorithms for solid and fluid mechanics discretization and solution. On the other hand, two-way fluid-solid coupling is retained within the residuals, which is essential for correct sensitivities. Sensitivities of field quantities can be found with little additional work beyond that required for solving the coupled fluid-solid system. The methodology developed here is illustrated by the solution of a problem of viscous incompressible flow about an infinite clastic cylinder. Sensitivities of the resulting velocity and displacement fields with respect to elastic modulus and fluid viscosity are computed.  相似文献

The thermal interaction between a heated solid plate and the acoustically driven working fluid was investigated by visualizing and quantifying the temperature fields in the neighbourhood of the solid plate. A combination of holographic interferometry and high-speed cinematography was applied in the measurements. A better knowledge of these temperature fields is essential to develop systematic design methodologies for heat exchangers in oscillatory flows. The difference between heat transfer in oscillatory flows with zero mean velocity and steady-state flows is demonstrated in the paper. Instead of heat transfer from a heated solid surface to the colder bulk fluid, the visualized temperature fields indicated that heat was transferred from the working fluid into the stack plate at the edge of the plate. In the experiments, the thermoacoustic effect was visualized through the temperature measurements. A novel evaluation procedure that accounts for the influence of the acoustic pressure variations on the refractive index was applied to accurately reconstruct the high-speed, two-dimensional oscillating temperature distributions.  A boundary layer analysis has been presented for interaction of combined convection from vertical surface in a porous medium saturated with a power-low type non-Newtonian fluid with presence suction and injection. The transformed conservation laws are solved numerically for the case of variable surface heat flux conditions. Results for the details of the velocity and temperature fields as well as the Nusselt number have been presented. The effect of fluid suction/injection on the heat transfer rate is discussed. We present a method to measure two-dimensional velocity fields inside an artificial foam-like porous structure using particle image velocimetry and a refractive index matching technique to avoid optical distortion. The porous structure is manufactured by stereolithography with the epoxy resin WaterShed? XC 11122 as solid material, and anisole is used as refractive index-matched fluid. It was found that the direction of build-up of the stereolithographic structure plays an important role for the quality of the recorded images. The velocity fields measured in this study and the turbulent statistics derived thereof allow to characterize the hydrodynamic performance of the artificial foam-like structure and clarify the mechanisms of mixing. Results from this study compare well to results from a large eddy simulation reported by Hutter et?al. (Chem Eng Sci 66:519–529, 2011b) and hence reinforce these simulations.  相似文献

After recalling the constitutive equations of finite strain poroelasticity formulated at the macroscopic level, we adopt a microscopic point of view which consists of describing the fluid-saturated porous medium at a space scale on which the fluid and solid phases are geometrically distinct. The constitutive equations of poroelasticity are recovered from the analysis conducted on a representative elementary volume of porous material open to fluid mass exchange. The procedure relies upon the solution of a boundary value problem defined on the solid domain of the representative volume undergoing large elastic strains. The macroscopic potential, computed as the integral of the free energy density over the solid domain, is shown to depend on the macroscopic deformation gradient and the porous space volume as relevant variables. The corresponding stress-type variables obtained through the differentiation of this potential turn out to be the macroscopic Boussinesq stress tensor and the pore pressure. Furthermore, such a procedure makes it possible to establish the necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure the validity of an ‘effective stress’ formulation of the constitutive equations of finite strain poroelasticity. Such conditions are notably satisfied in the important case of an incompressible solid matrix.  相似文献

The momentum and heat transfer characteristics associated with the boundary layer on a continuous moving flat surface in a non-Darcian fluid have been investigated exploiting a local similarity solution procedure. The full boundary layer equations, which describe the effects of convective inertia, solid boundary, and porous inertia in addition to the Darcy flow resistance, were solved using novel transformed variables, deduced from a scale analysis on the momentum and energy conservation equations. Details are provided for the effects of convective inertia and porous inertia on the velocity and temperature profiles. The resulting friction and heat transfer characteristics are found to be substantially different from those of forces convection over a stationary flat plate. Furthermore, useful asymptotic expressions for the local Nusselt number are presented in consideration of possible physical limiting conditions.  相似文献

Flow in a three-layer channel is modeled analytically. The channel consists of a transition layer sandwiched between a porous medium and a fluid clear of solid material. Within the transition layer, the reciprocal of the permeability varies linearly across the channel. The Brinkman model is used for the momentum equations for the porous medium layer and the transition layer. The velocity profile is obtained in closed form in terms of Airy, exponential, and polynomial functions. The overall volume flux and boundary friction factors are calculated and compared with values obtained with a two-layer model employing the Beavers–Joseph condition at the interface between a Darcy porous medium and a clear fluid.  相似文献

A thermomechanical theory for multiphase transport in unsaturated swelling porous media is developed on the basis of Hybrid Mixture Theory (saturated systems can also be modeled as a special case of this general theory). The aim is to comprehensively and non-empirically describe the effect of viscoelastic deformation on fluid transport (and vice versa) for swelling porous materials. Three phases are considered in the system: the swelling solid matrix s, liquid l, and air a. The Coleman–Noll procedure is used to obtain the restrictions on the form of the constitutive equations. The form of Darcy’s law for the fluid phase, which takes into account both Fickian and non-Fickian transport, is slightly different from the forms obtained by other researchers though all the terms have been included. When the fluid phases interact with the swelling solid porous matrix, deformation occurs. Viscoelastic large deformation of the solid matrix is investigated. A simple form of differential-integral equation is obtained for the fluid transport under isothermal conditions, which can be coupled with the deformation of the solid matrix to solve for transport in an unsaturated system. The modeling theory thus developed, which involves two-way coupling of the viscoelastic solid deformation and fluid transport, can be applied to study the processing of biopolymers, for example, soaking of foodstuffs and stress-crack predictions. Moreover, extension and modification of this modeling theory can be applied to study a vast variety of problems, such as drying of gels, consolidation of clays, drug delivery, and absorption of liquids in diapers.  相似文献

The quasisteady axisymmetrical flow of an incompressible viscous fluid past an assemblage of porous concentric spherical shell-in-cell model is studied. Boundary conditions on the cell surface that correspond to the Happel, Kuwabara, Kvashnin and Cunningham/Mehta-Morse models are considered. At the fluid-porous interfaces, the stress jump boundary condition for the tangential stresses along with continuity of normal stress and velocity components are employed. The Brinkman’s equation in the porous region and the Stokes equation for clear fluid are used. The hydrodynamic drag force acting on the porous shell by the external fluid in each of the four boundary conditions on the cell surface is evaluated. It is found that the normalized mobility of the particles (the hydrodynamic interaction among the porous shell particles) depends not only on the permeability of the porous shells and volume fraction of the porous shell particles, but also on the stress jump coefficient. As a limiting case, the drag force or mobility for a suspension of porous spherical shells reduces to those for suspensions of impermeable solid spheres and of porous spheres with jump.  相似文献

An analysis of fully developed combined free and forced convective flow in a fluid saturated porous medium channel bounded by two vertical parallel plates is presented. The flow is modeled using Brinkman equation model. The viscous and Darcy dissipation terms are also included in the energy equation. Three types of thermal boundary conditions such as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal, and isothermal–isoflux for the left–right walls of the channel are considered. Analytical solutions for the governing ordinary differential equations are obtained by perturbation series method. In addition, closed form expressions for the Nusselt number at both the left and right channel walls are derived. Results have been presented for a wide range of governing parameters such as porous parameter, ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number, viscosity ratio, width ratio, and conductivity ratio on velocity, and temperature fields. It is found that the presence of porous matrix in one of the region reduces the velocity and temperature.  相似文献

This paper reports a detailed numerical investigation on mixed convection flow of a polar fluid through a porous medium due to the combined effects of thermal and mass diffusion. The energy equation accounts for heat generation or absorption, while the nth order homogeneous chemical reaction between the fluid and the diffusing species is included in the mass diffusion equation. The governing equations of the linear momentum, angular momentum, energy and concentration are obtained in a non-similar form by introducing a suitable group of transformations. The final set of non-similar coupled non-linear partial differential equations is solved using an implicit finite-difference scheme in combination with quasi-linearization technique. The effects of various parameters on the velocity, angular velocity, temperature and concentration fields are investigated. Numerical results for the skin friction coefficient, wall stress of angular velocity, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are also presented.  相似文献

An analysis is presented for the problem of free convection with mass transfer flow for a micropolar fluid via a porous medium bounded by a semi-infinite vertical porous plate in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The plate moves with constant velocity in the longitudinal direction, and the free stream velocity follows an exponentially small perturbation law. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicularly to the porous surface in which absorbs the micropolar fluid with a suction velocity varying with time. Numerical results of velocity distribution of micropolar fluids are compared with the corresponding flow problems for a Newtonian fluid. Also, the results of the skin-friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, the rate of the heat and mass transfers at the wall are prepared with various values of fluid properties and flow conditions.  相似文献

A linear dynamic model of fully saturated porous media with local (either microscopic or mesoscopic) heterogeneities is developed within the context of Biot’s theory of poroelasticity. Viscoporoelastic behavior associated with local fluid flow is characterized by the notion of the dynamic compatibility condition on the interface between the solid and the fluid. Complex, frequency-dependent material parameters characterizing the viscoporoelasticity are derived. The complex properties can be obtained through determining the quasi-static poroelastic parameters, the properties of individual constituents, and the relaxation time of the dynamic compatibility condition on the interface. Relationships among various quasi-static poroelastic parameters are developed. It is shown that local fluid flow mechanism is significant only in the porous media with local heterogeneities. The relaxation time of the compatibility condition on the interface depends upon the details of local structure of porous media that control local fluid pressure diffusion. The new model is used to describe the velocity dispersion and attenuation in fully saturated porous media. The proposed model provides a theoretical framework to simulate the acoustical behavior of fully saturated porous media over a wide range of frequencies without making any explicit assumption about the structure of local heterogeneities.  相似文献

The investigation of flow in essentially inhomogeneous porous systems through the analysis of model periodic structures [1] is considered. In the acoustic approximation, an integrodifferential equation is obtained that describes the motion of a viscous fluid in a rigid porous medium of periodic structure. The velocity vector and pressure are represented in the form of asymptotic series with respect to a small parameter that characterizes the size of the periodicity cell, and the well-known procedure for averaging linearized hydrodynamic equations with small coefficients of viscosity [2, 3] is also used. A solution is presented to the local problem in the periodicity cell for a structure consisting of a doubly periodic system of infinitely long rods of circular section and a compressible viscous fluid that fills the space between them, and also for a structure formed by a system of orthogonal rectilinear channels, filled with viscous fluid, in a solid.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 123–130, March–April, 1988.  相似文献
