In this article several characterization techniques developed by the authors for erbium-doped fibers and integrated waveguides are discussed. These techniques are used to obtain the input parameters in the theoretical models that have been developed, too. In this way optical amplifiers and lasers are studied and optimized for different applications. Comparisons between computed values and experimental results are presented.  相似文献

Abstract

The fabrication process of photonic crystal fibers based on a stack-and-draw method is presented in full detail in this article. In addition, improved techniques of photonic crystal fiber preform preparation and fabrication are highlighted. A new method of connecting a handle to a preform using only a fiber drawing tower is demonstrated, which eliminates the need for a high-temperature glass working lathe. Also, a new technique of modifying the photonic crystal fiber structural pattern by sealing air holes of the photonic crystal fiber cane is presented. Using the proposed methods, several types of photonic crystal fibers are fabricated, which suggests potential for rapid photonic crystal fibers fabrication in laboratories equipped with and limited to only a fiber drawing tower.  相似文献

讨论了光纤光栅传感系统中常用的复用技术及其限制,阐述了利用CDMA技术实现光纤布拉格光栅阵列波长解调的复用方式,对系统的原理和性能进行了理论分析。在此基础上通过MATLAB做了基于CDMA的光纤光栅传感仿真分析,仿真结果表明该方法能区分反射波长重叠的光栅,从而提高FBG网络复用的频带利用率。  相似文献

Conventional fiber Bragg grating sensors have a few limitations, such as limited interrogation resolution and speed and difficulty in separating different measurands. In this article, microwave photonic techniques applied to fiber Bragg grating sensors to improve the interrogation resolution and speed are discussed. In this review paper, we first introduce the basic concept of quantum computer-resistant cryptography, which is the cornerstone of security technology for the network of a new era. Then, we will describe the positioning of mathematical cryptography and quantum cryptography, that are currently being researched and developed. Quantum cryptography includes QKD and quantum stream cipher, but we point out that the latter is expected as the core technology of next-generation communication systems. Various ideas have been proposed for QKD quantum cryptography, but most of them use a single-photon or similar signal. Then, although such technologies are applicable to special situations, these methods still have several difficulties to provide functions that surpass conventional technologies for social systems in the real environment. Thus, the quantum stream cipher has come to be expected as one promising countermeasure, which artificially creates quantum properties using special modulation techniques based on the macroscopic coherent state. In addition, it has the possibility to provide superior security performance than one-time pad cipher. Finally, we introduce detailed research activity aimed at putting the quantum stream cipher into practical use in social network technology.  相似文献

In this review article, the development of the double cladding optical fiber for high power fiber lasers is reviewed. The main technology for high power fiber lasers, including laser diode beam shaping, fiber laser pumping techniques, and amplification systems, are discussed in detail. 1050 W CW output and 133 W pulsed output are obtained in Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, China. ABSTRACT

The ion sources for accelerators devoted to medical applications must provide intense ion beams, with high reproducibility, stability and brightness. AISHa (Advanced Ion Source for Hadron therapy) is a compact ECRIS whose hybrid magnetic system consists of a permanent Halbach-type hexapole magnet and a set of independently energized superconducting coils. These coils will be enclosed in a compact cryostat with two cryocoolers for LHe-free operation. The AISHa ion source has been designed by taking into account the typical requirements of hospital-based facilities, where the minimization of the mean time between failures (MTBF) is a key point together with the maintenance operations which should be fast and easy. It is a multipurpose device, operating at 18?GHz, in order to achieve higher plasma densities able to provide enough versatility for future needs of the hadron therapy, including the ability to run at larger microwave power to produce different species and highly charged ion beams. In this paper, the innovative solutions, used for the plasma containment chamber and for the permanent magnet hexapole holder, are presented to solve the insulation and structural issues. The choice of the different materials used is hereinafter discussed together with all the involved processes (spinning, curing and machining). The glass fibers and carbon fibers are used to reinforce polymer matrices and give rise to structural composites and composites by molding. The paper shows also some results of ion source commissioning along with next developments. Innovative active coupling techniques are planned to be tested to optimize the first pass wave absorption, which plays an important role in the coupling optimization of the new-generation ECRIS.  相似文献

In this article, approaches reported in the literature for multi-parameter measurement relying on fiber grating technology are reviewed. Due to its importance, the particular case of temperature/strain simultaneous measurement is addressed in further detail, as well as the techniques and sensing heads for temperature-independent strain measurement. Many schemes designed to simultaneously measure strain and temperature with optical fiber grating sensors have been reported in recent years. In this paper, the influence of systematic errors associated with the measurement process is analyzed and the error formulas are derived. The results are applied to a range of techniques that are of current interest in the literature. The performance of these schemes is contrasted with respect to the influence of wavelength measurement error and sensitivity matrix error.  相似文献

A comprehensive overview is presented about optical fiber‐based tunable photonic delay lines, which have been steadily developed over the last decade for the realization of all‐optically controlled timing functions. The most widely used techniques, such as those based on slow & fast light and wavelength conversion associated to dispersion, are described and their physical limitations are discussed in terms of the maximal achievable delay, the associated signal distortion and signal bandwidth. Besides, an entirely different approach for all‐optical signal delaying is introduced. This technique is based on movable grating reflectors dynamically generated in highly birefringent optical fibers. This type of delay line has experimentally demonstrated large tunable delaying with a moderate signal distortion for high capacity optical data streams and even for wideband analog signals.  相似文献
