Inexact Interior-Point Method   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, we introduce an inexact interior-point algorithm for a constrained system of equations. The formulation of the problem is quite general and includes nonlinear complementarity problems of various kinds. In our convergence theory, we interpret the inexact interior-point method as an inexact Newton method. This enables us to establish a global convergence theory for the proposed algorithm. Under the additional assumption of the invertibility of the Jacobian at the solution, the superlinear convergence of the iteration sequence is proved.  相似文献

Inexact Newton methods for the nonlinear complementarity problem   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
An exact Newton method for solving a nonlinear complementarity problem consists of solving a sequence of linear complementarity subproblems. For problems of large size, solving the subproblems exactly can be very expensive. In this paper we study inexact Newton methods for solving the nonlinear, complementarity problem. In such an inexact method, the subproblems are solved only up to a certain degree of accuracy. The necessary accuracies that are needed to preserve the nice features of the exact Newton method are established and analyzed. We also discuss some extensions as well as an application. A smoothing inexact Newton method for nonlinear complementarity problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this article, we propose a new smoothing inexact Newton algorithm for solving nonlinear complementarity problems (NCP) base on the smoothed Fischer-Burmeister function. In each iteration, the corresponding linear system is solved only approximately. The global convergence and local superlinear convergence are established without strict complementarity assumption at the NCP solution. Preliminary numerical results indicate that the method is effective for large-scale NCP.  相似文献

Interior-point methods for nonlinear complementarity problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We present a potential reduction interior-point algorithm for monotone nonlinear complementarity problems. At each iteration, one has to compute an approximate solution of a nonlinear system such that a certain accuracy requirement is satisfied. For problems satisfying a scaled Lipschitz condition, this requirement is satisfied by the approximate solution obtained by applying one Newton step to that nonlinear system. We discuss the global and local convergence rates of the algorithm, convergence toward a maximal complementarity solution, a criterion for switching from the interior-point algorithm to a pure Newton method, and the complexity of the resulting hybrid algorithm. This research was supported in part by NSF Grant DDM-89-22636.The authors would like to thank Rongqin Sheng and three anonymous referees for their comments leading to a better presentation of the results.  相似文献

A Hybrid Smoothing Method for Mixed Nonlinear Complementarity Problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we describe a new, integral-based smoothing method for solving the mixed nonlinear complementarity problem (MNCP). This approach is based on recasting MNCP as finding the zero of a nonsmooth system and then generating iterates via two types of smooth approximations to this system. Under weak regularity conditions, we establish that the sequence of iterates converges to a solution if the limit point of this sequence is regular. In addition, we show that the rate is Q-linear, Q-superlinear, or Q-quadratic depending on the level of inexactness in the subproblem calculations and we make use of the inexact Newton theory of Dembo, Eisenstat, and Steihaug. Lastly, we demonstrate the viability of the proposed method by presenting the results of numerical tests on a variety of complementarity problems.  相似文献

We develop and analyze an affine scaling inexact generalized Newton algorithm in association with nonmonotone interior backtracking line technique for solving systems of semismooth equations subject to bounds on variables. By combining inexact affine scaling generalized Newton with interior backtracking line search technique, each iterate switches to inexact generalized Newton backtracking step to strict interior point feasibility. The global convergence results are developed in a very general setting of computing trial steps by the affine scaling generalized Newton-like method that is augmented by an interior backtracking line search technique projection onto the feasible set. Under some reasonable conditions we establish that close to a regular solution the inexact generalized Newton method is shown to converge locally p-order q-superlinearly. We characterize the order of local convergence based on convergence behavior of the quality of the approximate subdifferentials and indicate how to choose an inexact forcing sequence which preserves the rapid convergence of the proposed algorithm. A nonmonotonic criterion should bring about speeding up the convergence progress in some ill-conditioned cases.  相似文献

We present a modified damped Newton method for solving large sparse linear complementarity problems, which adopts a new strategy for determining the stepsize at each Newton iteration. The global convergence of the new method is proved when the system matrix is a nondegenerate matrix. We then apply the matrix splitting technique to this new method, deriving an inexact splitting method for the linear complementarity problems. The global convergence of the resulting inexact splitting method is proved, too. Numerical results show that the new methods are feasible and effective for solving the large sparse linear complementarity problems.  相似文献

We first propose a new class of smoothing functions for the nonlinear complementarity function which contains the well-known Chen-Harker-Kanzow-Smale smoothing function and Huang-Han-Chen smoothing function as special cases, and then present a smoothing inexact Newton algorithm for the P 0 nonlinear complementarity problem. The global convergence and local superlinear convergence are established. Preliminary numerical results indicate the feasibility and efficiency of the algorithm.  相似文献

An iterative linear programming algorithm for the solution of the convex programming problem is proposed. The algorithm partially solves a sequence of linear programming subproblems whose solution is shown to converge quadratically, superlinearly, or linearly to the solution of the convex program, depending on the accuracy to which the subproblems are solved. The given algorithm is related to inexact Newton methods for the nonlinear complementarity problem. Preliminary results for an implementation of the algorithm are given. This material is based on research supported by the National Science Foundation, Grants DCR-8521228 and CCR-8723091, and by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Grant AFOSR-86-0172. The Josephy-Newton method attacks nonlinear complementarity problems which consists of solving, possibly inexactly, a sequence of linear complementarity problems. Under appropriate regularity assumptions, this method is known to be locally (superlinearly) convergent. Utilizing the filter method, we presented a new globalization strategy for this Newton method applied to nonlinear complementarity problem without any merit function. The strategy is based on the projection-proximal point and filter methodology. Our linesearch procedure uses the regularized Newton direction to force global convergence by means of a projection step which reduces the distance to the solution of the problem. The resulting algorithm is globally convergent to a solution. Under natural assumptions, locally superlinear rate of convergence was established.  相似文献

A new algorithm for the solation of large-scale nonlinear complementarity problems is introduced. The algorithm is based on a nonsmooth equation reformulation of the complementarity problem and on an inexact Levenberg-Marquardt-type algorithm for its solution. Under mild assumptions, and requiring only the approximate solution of a linear system at each iteration, the algorithm is shown to be both globally and superlinearly convergent, even on degenerate problems. Numerical results for problems with up to 10 000 variables are presented. Partially supported by Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, Roma, Italy.  相似文献

We study the problem of solving a constrained system of nonlinear equations by a combination of the classical damped Newton method for (unconstrained) smooth equations and the recent interior point potential reduction methods for linear programs, linear and nonlinear complementarity problems. In general, constrained equations provide a unified formulation for many mathematical programming problems, including complementarity problems of various kinds and the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker systems of variational inequalities and nonlinear programs. Combining ideas from the damped Newton and interior point methods, we present an iterative algorithm for solving a constrained system of equations and investigate its convergence properties. Specialization of the algorithm and its convergence analysis to complementarity problems of various kinds and the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker systems of variational inequalities are discussed in detail. We also report the computational results of the implementation of the algorithm for solving several classes of convex programs. Interior–point algorithms are among the most efficient techniques for solving complementarity problems. In this paper, a procedure for globalizing interior–point algorithms by using the maximum stepsize is introduced. The algorithm combines exact or inexact interior–point and projected–gradient search techniques and employs a line–search procedure for the natural merit function associated with the complementarity problem. For linear problems, the maximum stepsize is shown to be acceptable if the Newton interior–point search direction is employed. Complementarity and optimization problems are discussed, for which the algorithm is able to process by either finding a solution or showing that no solution exists. A modification of the algorithm for dealing with infeasible linear complementarity problems is introduced which, in practice, employs only interior–point search directions. Computational experiments on the solution of complementarity problems and convex programming problems by the new algorithm are included.  相似文献

For exact Newton method for solving monotone semidefinite complementarity problems (SDCP), one needs to exactly solve a linear system of equations at each iteration. For problems of large size, solving the linear system of equations exactly can be very expensive. In this paper, we propose a new inexact smoothing/continuation algorithm for solution of large-scale monotone SDCP. At each iteration the corresponding linear system of equations is solved only approximately. Under mild assumptions, the algorithm is shown to be both globally and superlinearly convergent.  相似文献

By using the F–B function and smoothing technique to convert the nonlinear complementarity problems to smoothing nonlinear systems, and introducing perturbation parameter μk into the smoothing Newton equation, we present a new smoothing Levenberg–Marquardt method for general nonlinear complementarity problems. For general mapping F, not necessarily a P0 function, the algorithm has global convergence. Each accumulation point of the iterative sequence is at least a stationary point of the problem. Under the local error bound condition, which is much weaker than nonsingularity assumption or the strictly complementarity condition, we get the local superlinear convergence. Under some proper condition, quadratic convergence is also obtained.  相似文献

My master thesis concerns the solution linear complementarity problems (LCP). The Lemke algorithm, the most commonly used algorithm for solving a LCP until this day, was compared with the piecewise Newton method (PLN algorithm). The piecewise Newton method is an algorithm to solve a piecewise linear system on the basis of damped Newton methods. The linear complementarity problem is formulated as a piecewise linear system for the applicability of the PLN algorithm. Then, different application examples will be presented, solved with the PLN algorithm. As a result of the findings (of my master thesis) it can be assumed that – under the condition of coherent orientation – the PLN-algorithm requires fewer iterations to solve a linear complementarity problem than the Lemke algorithm. The coherent orientation for piecewise linear problems corresponds for linear complementarity problems to the P-matrix-property. (© 2013 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper, inexact Gauss–Newton methods for nonlinear least squares problems are studied. Under the hypothesis that derivative satisfies some kinds of weak Lipschitz conditions, the local convergence properties of inexact Gauss–Newton and inexact Gauss–Newton like methods for nonlinear problems are established with the modified relative residual control. The obtained results can provide an estimate of convergence ball for inexact Gauss–Newton methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate a class of nonlinear complementarity problems arising from the discretization of the free boundary problem, which was recently studied by Sun and Zeng [Z. Sun, J. Zeng, A monotone semismooth Newton type method for a class of complementarity problems, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 235 (5) (2011) 1261–1274]. We propose a new non-interior continuation algorithm for solving this class of problems, where the full-Newton step is used in each iteration. We show that the algorithm is globally convergent, where the iteration sequence of the variable converges monotonically. We also prove that the algorithm is globally linearly and locally superlinearly convergent without any additional assumption, and locally quadratically convergent under suitable assumptions. The preliminary numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献
