We continue our investigation of the distribution of the fractional parts of αγ, where α is a fixed non-zero real number and γ runs over the imaginary parts of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. We establish some connections to Montgomery’s pair correlation function and the distribution of primes in short intervals. We also discuss analogous results for a more general L-function. The approximation order provided by a directed set {S h } h>0 of spaces, each spanned by thehZ d -translates of one function, is analyzed. The nearoptimal approximants of [R2] from eachs h to the exponential functions are used to establish upper bounds on the approximation order. These approximants are also used on the Fourier transform domain to yield approximations for other smooth functions, and thereby provide lower bounds on the approximation order. As a special case, the classical Strang-Fix conditions are extended to bounded summable generating functions.The second part of the paper consists of a detailed account of various applications of these general results to spline and radial function theory. Emphasis is given to the case when the scale {s h } is obtained froms 1 by means other than dilation. This includes the derivation of spectral approximation orders associated with smooth positive definite generating functions.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the mixed problem for the equation u tt  + A 1 uA 2(u t ) + g(u t ) = f(x, t) in unbounded domain, where A 1 is a linear elliptic operator of the fourth order and A 2 is a nonlinear elliptic operator of the second order. Under natural assumptions on the equation coefficients and f we proof existence of a solution. This result contains, as a special case, some of known before theorems of existence. The classical Gibbs phenomenon for the Fourier sections (bestL 2-trigonometric polynomial approximants) of a jump function asserts that, near the jump, these sections overshoot the function by an asymptotically constant factorg (theL 2-Gibbs constant). In this paper we show that, for a class of one-jump discontinuous functions, a similar phenomenon holds for the trigonometric polynomials of bestL 1-approximation. We determine theL 1-Gibbs constant , which is substantially smaller thang. Furthermore, we prove that uniform convergence of bestL 1-approximants takes place on intervals that avoid the jump. One of the most far-reaching qualities of an orthogonal system is the presence of an explicit product formula. It can be utilized to establish a convolution structure and hence is essential for the harmonic analysis of the corresponding orthogonal expansion. As yet a convolution structure for Fourier-Bessel series is unknown, maybe in view of the unpractical nature of the corresponding expanding functions called Fourier-Bessel functions. It is shown in this paper that for the half-integral values of the parameter ,n=0, 1, 2,, the Fourier-Bessel functions possess a product formula, the kernel of which splits up into two different parts. While the first part is still the well-known kernel of Sonine's product formula of Bessel functions, the second part is new and reflects the boundary constraints of the Fourier-Bessel differential equation. It is given, essentially, as a finite sum over triple products of Bessel polynomials. The representation is explicit up to coefficients which are calculated here for the first two nontrivial cases and . As a consequence, a positive convolution structure is established for . We suggest a three-step strategy to find a good basis (dictionary) for non-linear m-term approximation. The first step consists of solving an optimization problem of finding a near best basis for a given function class F, when we optimize over a collection D of bases (dictionaries). The second step is devoted to finding a universal basis (dictionary) D u D for a given pair (F, D) of collections: F of function classes and D of bases (dictionaries). This means that Du provides near optimal approximation for each class F from a collection F. The third step deals with constructing a theoretical algorithm that realizes near best m-term approximation with regard to D u for function classes from F. In this paper we work this strategy out in the model case of anisotropic function classes and the set of orthogonal bases. The results are positive. We construct a natural tensor-product-wavelet-type basis and prove that it is universal. Moreover, we prove that a greedy algorithm realizes near best m-term approximation with regard to this basis for all anisotropic function classes.  相似文献
