In this article, an analytical approach for buckling analysis of thick functionally graded rectangular plates is presented. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived according to the higher-order shear deformation plate theory. Introducing an analytical method, the coupled governing stability equations of functionally graded plate are converted into two uncoupled partial differential equations in terms of transverse displacement and a new function, called boundary layer function. Using Levy-type solution these equations are solved for the functionally graded rectangular plate with two opposite edges simply supported under different types of loading conditions. The excellent accuracy of the present analytical solution is confirmed by making some comparisons of the present results with those available in the literature. Furthermore, the effects of power of functionally graded material, plate thickness, aspect ratio, loading types and boundary conditions on the critical buckling load of the functionally graded rectangular plate are studied and discussed in details. The critical buckling loads of thick functionally graded rectangular plates with various boundary conditions are reported for the first time and can be used as benchmark.  相似文献

The static response of simply supported functionally graded plates (FGP) subjected to a transverse uniform load (UL) or a sinusoidally distributed load (SL) and resting on an elastic foundation is examined by using a new hyperbolic displacement model. The present theory exactly satisfies the stress boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. No transverse shear correction factors are needed, because a correct representation of the transverse shear strain is given. The material properties of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of material constituents. The foundation is modeled as a two-parameter Pasternak-type foundation, or as a Winkler-type one if the second parameter is zero. The equilibrium equations of a functionally graded plate are given based on the hyperbolic shear deformation theory of plates presented. The effects of stiffness and gradient index of the foundation on the mechanical responses of the plates are discussed. It is established that the elastic foundations significantly affect the mechanical behavior of thick functionally graded plates. The numerical results presented in the paper can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of thick functionally graded plates on elastic foundations.  相似文献

In this paper, an efficient and simple refined theory is presented for buckling analysis of functionally graded plates. The theory, which has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The mechanical properties of functionally graded material are assumed to vary according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equations are derived from the principle of minimum total potential energy. The closed-form solutions of rectangular plates are obtained. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of present results. The effects of loading conditions and variations of power of functionally graded material, modulus ratio, aspect ratio, and thickness ratio on the critical buckling load of functionally graded plates are investigated and discussed.  相似文献

The main objective of this research work is to present analytical solutions for free vibration analysis of moderately thick rectangular plates, which are composed of functionally graded materials (FGMs) and supported by either Winkler or Pasternak elastic foundations. The proposed rectangular plates have two opposite edges simply-supported, while all possible combinations of free, simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions are applied to the other two edges. In order to capture fundamental frequencies of the functionally graded (FG) rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation, the analysis procedure is based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) to derive and solve exactly the equations of motion. The mechanical properties of the FG plates are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate and obey a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents, whereas Poisson’s ratio is set to be constant. First, a new formula for the shear correction factors, used in the Mindlin plate theory, is obtained for FG plates. Then the excellent accuracy of the present analytical solutions is confirmed by making some comparisons of the results with those available in literature. The effect of foundation stiffness parameters on the free vibration of the FG plates, constrained by different combinations of classical boundary conditions, is also presented for various values of aspect ratios, gradient indices, and thickness to length ratios.  相似文献

A new sinusoidal shear deformation theory is developed for bending, buckling, and vibration of functionally graded plates. The theory accounts for sinusoidal distribution of transverse shear stress, and satisfies the free transverse shear stress conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factor. Unlike the conventional sinusoidal shear deformation theory, the proposed sinusoidal shear deformation theory contains only four unknowns and has strong similarities with classical plate theory in many aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and stress resultant expressions. The material properties of plate are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton’s principle. The closed-form solutions of simply supported plates are obtained and the results are compared with those of first-order shear deformation theory and higher-order shear deformation theory. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the bending, buckling, and vibration responses of functionally graded plates.  相似文献

In this paper, the wave propagation and transient response of an infinite functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are studied. The thermal effects and temperature-dependent material properties are taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the plate surface and varies in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Considering the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia, the governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded plate are derived from Hamilton’s principle. The analytic dispersion relation of the functionally graded plate is obtained by means of integral transforms and a complete discussion of dispersion for the functionally graded plate is given. Using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions of the functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are obtained. The influences of the volume fraction distributions and temperature field on the wave propagation and transient response of functionally graded plates are discussed in detail. The results carried out can be used in the ultrasonic inspection techniques and provide a theoretical basis for engineering applications.  相似文献

Nonlinear bending analysis is first presented for functionally graded elliptical plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations, and investigations on FGM elliptical plates with immovable simply supported edge are also new in literature. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction. The governing equations of a functionally graded plate are based on Reddy’s high-order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermal effects. Ritz method is employed to determine the central deflection-load and bending moment-load curves, the validity can be confirmed by comparison with related researchers’ results, and it is worth noting that the forms of approximate solutions are well-chosen in consideration of both simplicity and accuracy. Influences played by different supported boundaries, thermal environmental conditions, foundation stiffness, ratio of major to minor axis and volume fraction index are discussed in detail.  相似文献

In the present paper, a non-classical model for functionally graded annular sector microplates under distributed transverse loading is developed based on the modified couple stress theory and the first-order shear deformation plate theory. The model contains a single material length scale parameter which can capture the size effect. The material properties are graded through the thickness of plates according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The equilibrium equations and boundary conditions are simultaneously derived from the principle of minimum total potential energy. The system of equilibrium equations is then solved using the generalized differential quadrature method. The effects of length scale parameter, power-law index and geometrical parameters on the bending response of annular sector plates subjected to distributed transverse loading are investigated.  相似文献

Free vibration and static analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates are studied using higher order shear deformation theory with a special modification in the transverse displacement in conjunction with finite element models. The mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction by a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The fundamental equations for FGM plates are derived using variational approach by considering traction free boundary conditions on the top and bottom faces of the plate. Results have been obtained by employing a continuous isoparametric Lagrangian finite element with 13 degrees of freedom per node. Convergence tests and comparison studies have been carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the present model. Numerical results for different thickness ratios, aspect ratios and volume fraction index with different boundary conditions have been presented. It is observed that the natural frequency parameter increases for plate aspect ratio, lower volume fraction index n and smaller thickness ratios. It is also observed that the effect of thickness ratio on the frequency of a plate is independent of the volume fraction index. For a given thickness ratio non-dimensional deflection increases as the volume fraction index increases. It is concluded that the gradient in the material properties plays a vital role in determining the response of the FGM plates.

The present study examines the nonlinear stability and free vibration features of multilayer functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced polymer composite (FG-GPLRPC) rectangular plates under compressive in-plane mechanical loads in pre/post buckling regimes. The GPL weight fractions layer-wisely vary across the lateral direction. Furthermore, GPLs are uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix of each layer. The effective Young's modulus of GPL-reinforced nanocomposite is assessed via the modified Halpin–Tsai technique, while the effective mass density and Poisson's ratio are attained by the rule of mixture. Taking the von Kármán-type nonlinearity into account for the large deflection of the FG-GPLRPC plate, as well as utilizing the variational differential quadrature (VDQ) method and Lagrange equation, the system of discretized coupled nonlinear equations of motions is directly achieved based upon a parabolic shear deformation plate theory; taking into account the impacts of geometric nonlinearity, in-plane loading, rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation. Afterwards, first, by neglecting the inertia terms, the pseudo-arc length approach is used in order to plot the equilibrium postbuckling path of FG-GPLRPC plates. Then, supposing a time-dependent disturbance about the postbuckling equilibrium status, the frequency responses of pre/post-buckled FG-GPLRC plate are obtained in terms of the compressive in-plane load. The influences of various vital design parameters are discussed through various parametric studies.  相似文献

This paper addresses a 3D elasticity analytical solution for static deformation of a simply-supported rectangular micro/nanoplate made of both homogeneous and functionally graded (FG) material within the framework of modified couple stress theory. The plate is assumed to be resting on a Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundation, and its modulus of elasticity is assumed to vary exponentially along thickness. By expanding displacement components in double Fourier series along in-plane coordinates and imposing relevant boundary conditions, the boundary value problem (BVP) of plate system, including its governing partial differential equations (PDEs) of equilibrium are reduced to BVP consisting only ordinary ones (ODEs). Parametric studies are conducted among displacement and stress components developed in the plate and FG material gradient index, length scale parameter, and foundation stiffnesses. From the numerical results, it is concluded that the out-of-plane shear stresses are not necessarily zero at the top and bottom surfaces of plate. The results of this investigation may serve as a benchmark to verify further bending analyses of either homogeneous or FG micro/nanoplates on elastic foundation.  相似文献

In this paper a novel numerical method based on the Moving Kriging (MK) interpolation meshfree method, integrated with a simple higher-order shear deformation plate theory for analysis of static bending, free vibration and buckling of functionally graded (FG) plates is presented. In the proposed technique, the shape functions are built by the Kriging technique which possesses the property of Kronecker delta function which makes it easy to enforce essential boundary conditions. The present formulation is based on a refined simple third-order shear deformation theory (R-STSDT), which is based on four variables and it still accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shearing strains and stresses through the thickness of the plate present in the original simple third-order shear deformation theory (STSDT). In this theory, instead of assuming a specific distribution for the displacement field, the theory of elasticity is used for obtaining the kinematics of the plate deformation. We first propose the formulation, and then several numerical examples are provided to show the merits of the proposed approach.  相似文献

A ceramic/metal functionally graded circular plate under one-term and two-term transversal excitations in the thermal environment is investigated, respectively. The effects of geometric nonlinearity and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The material properties of the functionally graded plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness, according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Using the principle of virtual work, the nonlinear partial differential equations of FGM plate subjected to transverse harmonic forcing excitation and thermal load are derived. For the circular plate with clamped immovable edge, the Duffing nonlinear forced vibration equation is deduced using Galerkin method. The criteria for existence of chaos under one-term and two-term periodic perturbations are given with Melnikov method. Numerical simulations are carried out to plot the bifurcation curves for the homolinic orbits. Effects of the material volume fraction index and temperature on the criterions are discussed and the existences of chaos are validated by plotting phase portraits, Poincare maps. Also, the bifurcation diagrams and corresponding maximum Lyapunov exponents are plotted. It was found that periodic, multiple periodic solutions and chaotic motions exist for the FGM plate under certain conditions.  相似文献

An analytical approach to investigating the stability of simply supported rectangular functionally graded plates under in-plane compressive, thermal, and combined loads is presented. The material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of constituents. The equilibrium and compatibility equations for the plates are derived by using the first-order shear deformation theory of plates, taking into account both the geometrical nonlinearity in the von Karman sense and initial geometrical imperfections. The resulting equations are solved by employing the Galerkin procedure to obtain expressions from which the postbuckling load–deflection curves can be traced by an iterative procedure. A stability analysis performed for geometrically midplane-symmetric FGM plates shows the effects of material and geometric parameters, in-plane boundary conditions, temperature-dependent material properties, and imperfections on the postbuckling behavior of the plates.  相似文献

In this study, the static response is presented for a simply supported functionally graded hybrid beam subjected to a transverse uniform load. Material properties of the beam are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. By varying the fiber volume fraction within a symmetric laminated beam and combining two fiber types to create a hybrid functionally graded material (FGM) can offer desirable increases in axial and bending stiffness. The equations governing the hybrid FGM beams are determined using the principle of virtual work (PVW) arising from the higher order shear deformation theories. Numerical results on the transverse deflection, axial and shear stresses in a moderately thick hybrid FGM beam under uniform distributed load are discussed in depth. The effect of power-law exponent on the deflection and stresses are also commented.  相似文献

In this paper, stability and local bifurcation behaviors for a simply supported functionally graded material (FGM) rectangular plate subjected to the transversal and in-plane excitations in the uniform thermal environment are investigated using both analytical and numerical methods. Three kinds of degenerated equilibrium points of the bifurcation response equations are considered, which are characterized by a double zero eigenvalues, a simple zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues as well as two pairs of pure imaginary eigenvalues in nonresonant case, respectively. With the aid of Maple and normal form theory, the explicit expressions of transition curves are obtained, which may lead to static bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation and 2-D torus bifurcation. Finally, the numerical solutions obtained by using fourth-order Runge–Kutta method agree with the analytic predictions.  相似文献

In the present study, higher order shear and normal deformable plate theory is developed for analysis of incompressible functionally graded rectangular thick plates. Also, The effect of incompressibility is studied on the static, dynamic and stability responses of thick plate. It is assumed that plate is incompressible and the incompressibility condition is considered in addition to the governing equations for determining the unknowns. Since the plate is thick, higher order shear and normal deformable theory is applied so that the Legendre polynomials are used for expansion of displacement field components in the thickness direction. Also, it is supposed that material properties vary through the thickness based on the power law function. Utilizing the variational approach, governing equations for static, stability and dynamic analysis of plate are derived. Resulted equations are solved analytically for simply supported plates. Finally, the effects of material properties and dimensions on the response of incompressible plates are investigated in details.  相似文献

The large-amplitude free vibration analysis of functionally graded beams is investigated by means of a finite element formulation. The Von-Karman type nonlinear strain–displacement relationships are employed where the ends of the beam are constrained to move axially. The effects of the transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are included based upon the Timoshenko beam theory. The material properties are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to the power-law distribution. A statically exact beam element which devoid the shear locking effect with displacement fields based on the first order shear deformation theory is used to study the geometric nonlinear effects on the vibrational characteristics of functionally graded beams. The finite element method is employed to discretize the nonlinear governing equations, which are then solved by the direct numerical integration technique in order to obtain the nonlinear vibration frequencies of functionally graded beams with different boundary conditions. The influences of power-law exponent, vibration amplitude, beam geometrical parameters and end supports on the free vibration frequencies are studied. The present numerical results compare very well with the results available from the literature where possible. Some new results for the nonlinear natural frequencies are presented in both tabular and graphical forms which can be used for future references.  相似文献
