We consider a polling model of two M/G/1 queues, served by a single server. The service policy for this polling model is of threshold type. Service at queue 1 is exhaustive. Service at queue 2 is exhaustive unless the size of queue 1 reaches some level T during a service at queue 2; in the latter case the server switches to queue 1 at the end of that service. Both zero- and nonzero switchover times are considered. We derive exact expressions for the joint queue length distribution at customer departure epochs, and for the steady-state queue-length and sojourn time distributions. In addition, we supply a simple and very accurate approximation for the mean queue lengths, which is suitable for optimization purposes.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with single server queues having LCFS service discipline. We give a condition to hold an invariance relation between time and customer average queue length distributions in the queues. The relation is a generalization of that in an ordinary GI/M/1 queue. We compare the queue length distributions for different single server queues with finite waiting space under the same arrival process and service requirement distribution of customer and derive invariance relations among them. This research was supported in part by a grant from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The latter part of this paper was written while the author resided at the University of California, Berkeley.  相似文献

We consider an infinite-buffer single server queue where arrivals occur according to a batch Markovian arrival process (BMAP). The server serves until system emptied and after that server takes a vacation. The server will take a maximum number H of vacations until either he finds at least one customer in the queue or the server has exhaustively taken all the vacations. We obtain queue length distributions at various epochs such as, service completion/vacation termination, pre-arrival, arbitrary, departure, etc. Some important performance measures, like mean queue lengths and mean waiting times, etc. have been obtained. Several other vacation queueing models like, single and multiple vacation model, queues with exceptional first vacation time, etc. can be considered as special cases of our model.  相似文献

In this paper martingales methods are applied for analyzing limit non-stationary behavior of the queue length processes in closed Jackson queueing networks with a single class consisting of a large number of customers, a single infinite server queue, and a fixed number of single server queues with large state independent service rates. It is assumed that one of the single server nodes forms a bottleneck. For the non-bottleneck nodes we show that the queue length distribution at timet converges in generalized sense to the stationary distribution of the M/M/1 queue whose parameters explicitly depend ont. For the bottleneck node a diffusion approximation with reflection is proved in the moderate usage regime while fluid and Gaussian diffusion approximations are established for the heavy usage regime.  相似文献

The stability of a cyclic polling system, with a single server and two infinite-buffer queues, is considered. Customers arrive at the two queues according to independent batch Markovian arrival processes. The first queue is served according to the gated service discipline, and the second queue is served according to a state-dependent time-limited service discipline with the preemptive repeat-different property. The state dependence is that, during each cycle, the predetermined limited time of the server’s visit to the second queue depends on the queue length of the first queue at the instant when the server last departed from the first queue. The mean of the predetermined limited time for the second queue either decreases or remains the same as the queue length of the first queue increases. Due to the two service disciplines, the customers in the first queue have higher service priority than the ones in the second queue, and the service fairness of the customers with different service priority levels is also considered. In addition, the switchover times for the server traveling between the two queues are considered, and their means are both positive as well as finite. First, based on two embedded Markov chains at the cycle beginning instants, the sufficient and necessary condition for the stability of the cyclic polling system is obtained. Then, the calculation methods for the variables related to the stability condition are given. Finally, the influence of some parameters on the stability condition of the cyclic polling system is analyzed. The results are useful for engineers not only checking whether the given cyclic polling system is stable, but also adjusting some parameters to make the system satisfy some requirements under the condition that the system is stable.  相似文献

This paper considers polling systems with an autonomous server that remains at a queue for an exponential amount of time before moving to a next queue incurring a generally distributed switch-over time. The server remains at a queue until the exponential visit time expires, also when the queue becomes empty. If the queue is not empty when the visit time expires, service is preempted upon server departure, and repeated when the server returns to the queue. The paper first presents a necessary and sufficient condition for stability, and subsequently analyzes the joint queue-length distribution via an embedded Markov chain approach. As the autonomous exponential visit times may seem to result in a system that closely resembles a system of independent queues, we explicitly investigate the approximation of our system via a system of independent vacation queues. This approximation is accurate for short visit times only.   相似文献

M/G/1 queues with server vacations have been studied extensively over the last two decades. Recent surveys by Boxma [3], Doshi [5] and Teghem [14] provide extensive summary of literature on this subject. More recently, Shanthikumar [11] has generalized some of the results toM/G/1 type queues in which the arrival pattern during the vacations may be different from that during the time the server is actually working. In particular, the queue length at the departure epoch is shown to decompose into two independent random variables, one of which is the queue length at the departure epoch (arrival epoch, steady state) in the correspondingM/G/1 queue without vacations. Such generalizations are important in the analysis of situations involving reneging, balking and finite buffer cyclic server queues. In this paper we consider models similar to the one in Shanthikumar [11] but use the work in the system as the starting point of our investigation. We analyze the busy and idle periods separately and get conditional distributions of work in the system, queue length and, in some cases, waiting time. We then remove the conditioning to get the steady state distributions. Besides deriving the new steady state results and conditional waiting time and queue length distributions, we demonstrate that the results of Boxma and Groenendijk [2] follow as special cases. We also provide an alternative approach to deriving Shanthikumar's [11] results for queue length at departure epochs.  相似文献

We propose a simple way, called the arrival time approach, of finding the queue length distributions for M/G/1-type queues with generalized server vacations. The proposed approach serves as a useful alternative to understanding complicated queueing processes such as priority queues with server vacations and MAP/G/1 queues with server vacations.  相似文献

We study a queueing network with a single shared server that serves the queues in a cyclic order. External customers arrive at the queues according to independent Poisson processes. After completing service, a customer either leaves the system or is routed to another queue. This model is very generic and finds many applications in computer systems, communication networks, manufacturing systems, and robotics. Special cases of the introduced network include well-known polling models, tandem queues, systems with a waiting room, multi-stage models with parallel queues, and many others. A complicating factor of this model is that the internally rerouted customers do not arrive at the various queues according to a Poisson process, causing standard techniques to find waiting-time distributions to fail. In this paper, we develop a new method to obtain exact expressions for the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of the steady-state waiting-time distributions. This method can be applied to a wide variety of models which lacked an analysis of the waiting-time distribution until now.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a detailed analysis of a cyclic-service queueing system consisting of two parallel queues, and a single server. The server serves the two queues with a Bernoulli service schedule described as follows. At the beginning of each visit to a queue, the server always serves a customer. At each epoch of service completion in the ith queue at which the queue is not empty, the server makes a random decision: with probability pi, it serves the next customer; with probability 1-pi, it switches to the other queue. The server takes switching times in its transition from one queue to the other. We derive the generating functions of the joint stationary queue-length distribution at service completion instants, by using the approach of the boundary value problem for complex variables. We also determine the Laplace-Stieltjes transforms of waiting time distributions for both queues, and obtain their mean waiting times. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Two random traffic streams are competing for the service time of a single server (multiplexer). The streams form two queues, primary (queue 1) and secondary (queue 0). The primary queue is served exhaustively, after which the server switches over to queue 0. The duration of time the server resides in the secondary queue is determined by the dynamic evolution in queue 1. If there is an arrival to queue 1 while the server is still working in queue 0, the latter is immediately gated, and the server completes service there only to the gated jobs, upon which it switches back to the primary queue. We formulate this system as a two-queue polling model with a single alternating server and with randomly-timed gated (RTG) service discipline in queue 0, where the timer there depends on the arrival stream to the primary queue. We derive Laplace–Stieltjes transforms and generating functions for various key variables and calculate numerous performance measures such as mean queue sizes at polling instants and at an arbitrary moment, mean busy period duration and mean cycle time length, expected number of messages transmitted during a busy period and mean waiting times. Finally, we present graphs of numerical results comparing the mean waiting times in the two queues as functions of the relative loads, showing the effect of the RTG regime.  相似文献

In this paper, we study an M/G/1 multi-queueing system consisting ofM finite capacity queues, at which customers arrive according to independent Poisson processes. The customers require service times according to a queue-dependent general distribution. Each queue has a different priority. The queues are attended by a single server according to their priority and are served in a non-preemptive way. If there are no customers present, the server takes repeated vacations. The length of each vacation is a random variable with a general distribution function. We derive steady state formulas for the queue length distribution and the Laplace transform of the queueing time distribution for each queue.  相似文献

This paper considers stationary queues with multiple arrival streams governed by an irreducible Markov chain. In a very general setting, we first show an invariance relationship between the time-average joint queue length distribution and the customer-average joint queue length distribution at departures. Based on this invariance relationship, we provide a distributional form of Little's law for FIFO queues with simple arrivals (i.e., the superposed arrival process has the orderliness property). Note that this law relates the time-average joint queue length distribution with the stationary sojourn time distributions of customers from respective arrival streams. As an application of the law, we consider two variants of FIFO queues with vacations, where the service time distribution of customers from each arrival stream is assumed to be general and service time distributions of customers may be different for different arrival streams. For each queue, the stationary waiting time distribution of customers from each arrival stream is first examined, and then applying the Little's law, we obtain an equation which the probability generating function of the joint queue length distribution satisfies. Further, based on this equation, we provide a way to construct a numerically feasible recursion to compute the joint queue length distribution.  相似文献

An iterative algorithm is developed for computing numerically the stationary queue length distributions in M/G/1/N queues with arbitrary state-dependent arrivals, or simply M(k)/G/1/N queues. The only input requirement is the Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the service time distribution. In addition, the algorithm can also be used to obtain the stationary queue length distributions in GI/M/1/N queues with state-dependent services, orGI/M(k)/1/N, after establishing a relationship between the stationary queue length distributions inGI/M(k)/1/N and M(k)/G/1/N+1 queues. Finally, we elaborate on some of the well studied special cases, such asM/G/1/N queues,M/G/1/N queues with distinct arrival rates (which includes the machine interference problems), andGI/M/C/N queues. The discussions lead to a simplified algorithm for each of the three cases.  相似文献

This paper considers a class of stationary batch-arrival, bulk-service queues with generalized vacations. The system consists of a single server and a waiting room of infinite capacity. Arrivals of customers follow a batch Markovian arrival process. The server is unavailable for occasional intervals of time called vacations, and when it is available, customers are served in groups of fixed size B. For this class of queues, we show that the vector probability generating function of the stationary queue length distribution is factored into two terms, one of which is the vector probability generating function of the conditional queue length distribution given that the server is on vacation. The special case of batch Poisson arrivals is carefully examined, and a new stochastic decomposition formula is derived for the stationary queue length distribution.AMS subject classification: 60K25, 90B22, 60K37  相似文献

We consider a class of two-queue polling systems with exhaustive service, where the order in which the server visits the queues is governed by a discrete-time Markov chain. For this model, we derive an expression for the probability generating function of the joint queue length distribution at polling epochs. Based on these results, we obtain explicit expressions for the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of the waiting-time distributions and the probability generating function of the joint queue length distribution at an arbitrary point in time. We also study the heavy-traffic behaviour of properly scaled versions of these distributions, which results in compact and closed-form expressions for the distribution functions themselves. The heavy-traffic behaviour turns out to be similar to that of cyclic polling models, provides insights into the main effects of the model parameters when the system is heavily loaded, and can be used to derive closed-form approximations for the waiting-time distribution or the queue length distribution.  相似文献

A class of discrete-timeM/G/1 queues, including both round robin and last come first served service, in which customers are subject to permutations is considered. These time slotted queues, analogous to the symmetric queues of Kelly, are analyzed by examination of the time reversed process. Product form stationary distributions are found for a type of doubly stochastic server of Schassberger [5] and for a Bernoulli arrival process queue model of Henderson and Taylor [2].  相似文献

We establish the optimal asymptotic decay rate of per-session queue length tail distributions for a two-queue system where a single constant rate server serves the two queues using the Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS) scheduling discipline. The result is obtained using the sample-path large deviation principle and has implications in call admission control for high-speed communication networks. We consider a closed queueing network, consisting of two FCFS single server queues in series: a queue with general service times and a queue with exponential service times. A fixed number \(N\) of customers cycle through this network. We determine the joint sojourn time distribution of a tagged customer in, first, the general queue and, then, the exponential queue. Subsequently, we indicate how the approach toward this closed system also allows us to study the joint sojourn time distribution of a tagged customer in the equivalent open two-queue system, consisting of FCFS single server queues with general and exponential service times, respectively, in the case that the input process to the first queue is a Poisson process.  相似文献
