The Majorana neutrino mass matrix combines information from the neutrino masses and the leptonic mixing in the flavor basis. Its invariance under some transformation matrices indicates the existence of certain residual symmetry. We offer an intuitive display of the structure of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix, using the whole set of the oscillation data. The structure is revealed depending on the lightest neutrino mass. We find that there are three regions with distinct characteristics of structure. A group effect and the-τ exchange symmetry are observed. Six types of texture non-zeros are shown. Implications for flavor models are discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that the Majorana phases of the neutrino mixing matrix cannot have any effect in neutrino oscillations, contrary to the argument presented in arXiv:0912.5266. It is also shown that in a charged–current weak interaction process it is not possible to create a coherent superposition of different flavor neutrinos which is independent of the associated charged leptons.  相似文献

We present the generic formulas to calculate the ratios of neutrino masses and the Majorana phases of CP violation from the neutrino mass matrix with two independent vanishing entries in the flavor basis where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal. An order-of-magnitude illustration is given for seven experimentally acceptable textures of the neutrino mass matrix, and some analytical approximations are made for their phenomenological consequences at low energy scales.  相似文献

In a theory of neutrino mixing via a Majorana mass term involving only the left-handed neutrinos there exist selection rules for neutrino oscillations if true Dirac and/or exactly zero mass eigenstates are present. In the case of three neutrino flavours no oscillation is allowed if the mass spectrum contains one Dirac and one nondegenerate Majorana massive neutrino. The origin of these selection rules and their implications are discussed and the number of possible CP-violating phases in the lepton mixing matrix when Dirac and Majorana mass eigenstates coexist is given.  相似文献

The most recent experimental data on quark and neutrino mixing angles are discussed. It is indicated that the results of the latest kaon-decay experiments are consistent with the unitarity condition for the first row of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix if the currently available world-average value of the neutron lifetime is used to determine the element V ud of this matrix. The quark mixing angles are calculated within the Fritzsch-Scadron-Delbourgo-Rupp phenomenological approach on the basis of values of the masses of light and heavy constituent quarks. The neutrino mixing angles are calculated to a high precision with the aid of the hypothesis that the quark and neutrino mixing angles are complementary. The results are compatible with experimental data.  相似文献

We have discussed the quark-lepton mass matrices with the U(1) and O(3) flavor symmetry in SU(5), which lead to the large mixing angle MSW solution of solar neutrinos.  相似文献

We show that the Fritzsch texture of lepton mass matrices can naturally lead to the bi-large flavor mixing pattern, if three neutrinos have a normal but weak mass hierarchy (typically, m1:m2:m31:3:10). The effective mass of the tritium beta decay and that of the neutrinoless double beta decay are too small to be observable in this ansatz, but CP violation at the percent level is allowed and could be measured in long-baseline neutrino oscillations.  相似文献

Established results on neutrino mass, mixing and flavor change (as of 2009) are briefly reviewed. Status and prospects of unknown neutrino properties (smallest mixing angle, Dirac/Majorana nature, absolute masses and their hierarchy) are also discussed.  相似文献

We clarify the domain needed for the mixing angles in three flavor neutrino oscillations. By comparing the ranges of the transition probabilities as functions of the domains of the mixing angles, we show that it is necessary and sufficient to let all mixing angles be in . This holds irrespectively of any assumptions on the neutrino mass squared differences.  相似文献

We compute the low energy threshold corrections to neutrino masses and mixing in the standard model (SM) and its minimal supersymmetric version, using the effective theory technique. We demonstrate that they stabilize the results for neutrino masses and mixing with respect to the choice of the scale to which the renormalization group (RG) equation is integrated. (This confirms the correctness of the recent re-derivation of the RGE for the SM in hep-ph/0108005.) Since, as is known, those corrections are potentially very important for phenomenology we derive for them the explicit formulae that can be applied to specific models of neutrino masses and mixing. The left-handed electron and muon neutrinos are considered to be Majorana neutrinos with equal mass. They have oppositeCP parities and are equivalent to a single Dirac neutrino. These neutrinos are shown to have a Majorana mass of about 6.5 eV. The relatively large mass of their charged leptons is due to their γ5 coupling with the Higgs scalars By expressing the Higgs scalars as Clebsch-Gordon type of combinations ofZ andD neutral vector bosons with appropriate quantum numbers, it is shown that 2m e m μ /(m e 2 +m μ 2 )=(gv/g A) 2 , whereg v andg A are the vector and axial vector coupling constants, respectively, ofZ (orD) with the leptonse and μ. Weinberg mixing parametersx L =e2/g L 2 andx R =e 2/g R 2 are determined to be 0.2254 and 0.2746, respectively. In the quark sector the Cabibbo angle is about 13°11′ and the masses oft andb quarks are found to be respectively 134.2 and 4.69 GeV.  相似文献

In this article I review the constraints on neutrino mass and mixing coming from type-II supernovae. The bounds obtained on these parameters from shock reheating, r-process nucleosynthesis and from SN1987A are discussed. Given the current constraints on neutrino mass and mixing the effect of oscillations of neutrinos from a nearby supernova explosion in future detectors will also be discussed.  相似文献

Two-loop contributions to Majorana mass and transition magnetic moment in a gauge model not in conflict with decaying neutrino dark matter (DDM) hypothesis have been studied. Another variant of an earlier model [J Dhar and S Dev,Pramana — J. Phys. 39 541 (1992)] consistent with the DDM hypothesis is proposed and is shown to lead to large enough neutrino magnetic moment and consistent with the phenomenological constraints on neutrino mass.  相似文献

We argue that there exists a simple relation between the quark and lepton mixings, which supports the idea of grand unification and probes the underlying robust bimaximal fermion mixing structure of still unknown flavor physics. In this framework the quark mixing matrix is a parameter matrix describing the deviation of neutrino mixing from exactly bimaximal, predicting theta(sol)+theta(C)=pi/4, where theta(C) is the Cabibbo angle, theta(atm)+theta(CKM)(23)=pi/4 and theta(MNS)(13) approximately theta(CKM)(13) approximately O(lambda(3)), in perfect agreement with experimental data. Both non-Abelian and Abelian flavor symmetries are needed for such a prediction to be realistic. An example flavor model capable of explaining this flavor mixing pattern and inducing the measured quark and lepton masses is outlined.  相似文献
