A facile and environmentally friendly synthetic strategy for the production of stable and easily processable dispersions of graphene in water is presented. This strategy represents an alternative to classical chemical exfoliation methods (for example the Hummers method) that are more complex, harmful, and dangerous. The process is based on the electrochemical exfoliation of graphite and includes three simple steps: 1) the anodic exfoliation of graphite in (NH4)2SO4, 2) sonication to separate the oxidized graphene sheets, and 3) reduction of oxidized graphene to graphene. The procedure makes it possible to convert around 30 wt % of the initial graphite into graphene with short processing times and high yields. The graphene sheets are well dispersed in water, have a carbon/oxygen atomic ratio of 11.7, a lateral size of about 0.5–1 μm, and contain only a few graphene layers, most of which are bilayer sheets. The processability of this type of aqueous dispersion has been demonstrated in the fabrication of macroscopic graphene structures, such as graphene aerogels and graphene films, which have been successfully employed as absorbents or as electrodes in supercapacitors, respectively.  相似文献

Graphene nanosheets offer intriguing electronic, thermal and mechanical properties and are expected to find a variety of applications in high‐performance nanocomposite materials. The great challenge of exfoliating and dispersing pristine graphite or graphene sheets in various solvents or matrices can be achieved by facilely and properly chemical functionalization of the carbon nanosheets. Here we reported an efficient way to functionalize graphene sheets with presynthesized polymer via a combination of atom transfer nitroxide radical coupling chemistry with the grafting‐onto strategy, which enable us to functionalize graphene sheets with well‐defined polymer synthesized via living radical polymerization. A radical scavenger species, 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl (TEMPO), was firstly anchored onto ? COOH groups on graphene oxide (GO) to afford TEMPO‐functionalized graphene sheets (GS‐TEMPO), meanwhile, the GO sheets were thermally reduced. Next, GS‐TEMPO reacted with Br‐terminated well‐defined poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) homopolymer, which was presynthesized by SET‐LRP, in the presence of CuBr/N,N,N′,N′,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine to form PNIPAM‐graphene sheets (GS‐PNIPAM) nanocomposite in which the polymers were covalently linked onto the graphene via the alkoxyamine conjunction points. The PNIPAM‐modified graphene sheets are easily dispersible in organic solvents and water, and a temperature‐induced phase transition was founded in the water suspension of GS‐PNIPAM. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)/graphene‐nanosheet (GN, multiple layers of graphene sheets with the thickness of ~5–10 nm) coatings have been deposited by flame spraying. The structure of UHMWPE remained almost intact after the spray processing and addition of GNs resulted in a slightly decreased crystallinity and improved thermal stability of UHMWPE. In addition, the coating containing 1.0 wt.% GNs exhibited a reduction of ~20% in wear rate and 25% in friction coefficient (0.18 versus 0.24). Significantly enhanced anti‐corrosion performances of the UHMWPE–GN coatings were suggested by increased corrosion potential, corrosion current density, and impedance modulus value of the UHMWPE–GN coatings. The very well retained GNs are located mainly at the interfaces between UHMWPE splats and act as bridges connecting the splats, which mainly accounts for the enhanced properties of the composite coatings. The novel UHMWPE–graphene composite coatings show great potential for protecting engineering components for applications against corrosion. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Graphene nanosheets offer intriguing electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties and are expected to find a variety of applications in high‐performance nanocomposite materials. Dispersal of graphene nanosheets in polymer hosts and precise interface control are challenging due to their strong interlayer cohesive energy and surface inertia. Here, an efficient strategy is presented for growing polymers directly from the surface of reduced graphene oxide (GO). This method involves the covalent attachment of Br‐containing initiating groups onto the surface of hydrazine hydrate reduced GO via a diazonium addition and the succeeding linking of poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) chains (71.7 wt % grafting efficiency) via surface‐initiated single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) to graphene nanosheets. The resulting materials were characterized by using a range of testing techniques and it was proved that polymer chains were successfully introduced to the surface of exfoliated graphene sheets. After grafting with PtBMA, the modified graphene sheets still maintained the separated single layers, and the dispersibility was improved significantly. The method is believed to offer possibilities for optimizing the processing properties and interface structure of graphene–polymer nanocomposites. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To bridge the gap between laboratory-scale studies and commercial applications, mass production of high quality graphene is essential. A scalable exfoliation strategy towards the production of graphene sheets is presented that has excellent yield (ca. 75 %, 1–3 layers), low defect density (a C/O ratio of 21.2), great solution-processability, and outstanding electronic properties (a hole mobility of 430 cm2 V−1 s−1). By applying alternating currents, dual exfoliation at both graphite electrodes enables a high production rate exceeding 20 g h−1 in laboratory tests. As a cathode material for lithium storage, graphene-wrapped LiFePO4 particles deliver a high capacity of 167 mAh g−1 at 1 C rate after 500 cycles.  相似文献

Controlling the chemistry of graphene is necessary to enable applications in materials and life sciences. Research beyond graphene oxide is targeted to avoid the highly defective character of the carbon framework. Herein, we show how to optimize the synthesis of oxo‐functionalized graphene (oxo‐G) to prepare high‐quality monolayer flakes that even allow for direct transmission electron microscopy investigation at atomic resolution (HRTEM). The role of undesired residuals is addressed and sources are eliminated. HRTEM provides clear evidence for the exceptional integrity of the carbon framework of such oxo‐G sheets. The patchy distribution of oxo‐functionality on the nm‐scale, observed on our highly clean oxo‐G sheets, corroborates theoretical predictions. Moreover, defined electron‐beam irradiation facilitates gentle de‐functionalization of oxo‐G sheets, a new route towards clean graphene, which is a breakthrough for localized graphene chemistry.  相似文献

A water‐soluble surfactant consisting of hexa‐peri‐hexabenzocoronene (HBC) as hydrophobic aromatic core and hydrophilic carboxy substituents was synthesized. It exhibited a self‐assembled nanofiber structure in the solid state. Profiting from the π interactions between the large aromatic core of HBC and graphene, the surfactant mediated the exfoliation of graphite into graphene in polar solvents, which was further stabilized by the bulky hydrophilic carboxylic groups. A graphene dispersion with a concentration as high as 1.1 mg L?1 containing 2–6 multilayer nanosheets was obtained. The lateral size of the graphene sheets was in the range of 100–500 nm based on atomic force microscope (AFM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) measurements.  相似文献

We report a mechanically strong, electrically and thermally conductive, and optically transparent shape‐memory polyurethane composite which was fabricated by introducing a small amount (0.1 wt%) of high‐quality graphene as a filler. Geometrically large (≈4.6 μm2), but highly crystallized few‐layer graphenes, verified by Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, were prepared by the sonication of expandable graphite in an organic solvent. Oxygen‐ containing functional groups at the edge plane of graphene were crucial for an effective stress transfer from the graphene to polyurethane. Homogeneously dispersed few‐layered graphene enabled polyurethane to have a high shape recovery force of 1.8 MPa cm−3. Graphene, which is intrinsically stretchable up to 10%, will enable high‐performance composites to be fabricated at relatively low cost and we thus envisage that such composites may replace carbon nanotubes for various applications in the near future.  相似文献

A novel magnetic adsorbent Fe3O4/reduced graphene oxide‐carbon nanotubes, was prepared by one‐pot solvothermal synthesis method. It was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray powder diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometry. The diameter of Fe3O4 microparticles was about 350 nm, which were covered by carbon nanotubes and reduced graphene oxide sheets, while carbon nanotubes inserted between the reduced graphene oxide sheets effectively prevented their aggregation. The composite had large surface area and good magnetic property, suiting for magnetic solid‐phase extraction and the determination of sulfonamides, by coupling with high‐performance liquid chromatography. Under the optimized conditions (including extraction time, amount of adsorbent, solution pH, ionic strength and desorption conditions), a good linear was achieved in the concentration range of 5–500 μg/L and the low limits of detection and low limits of quantification were 0.35–1.32 and 1.16–4.40 μg/L, respectively. The enrichment factors were estimated to be 24.72 to 30.15 fold. The proposed method was applied for the detection of sulfonamides in milk sample and the recoveries were 88.4–105.9%, with relative standard deviations of 0.74–5.38%.  相似文献

Polystyrene particles “armoured” with nanosized graphene oxide (GO) sheets have been prepared by aqueous miniemulsion polymerization of styrene, exploiting the amphiphilic properties of GO in the absence of conventional surfactants. The nanoscale GO sheets were prepared from graphite nanofibers of diameter approximately 100 nm based on a novel procedure, thus effectively ensuring the absence of larger sheets. Polymerization proceeded to high conversion with minor coagulation, with final number‐average particle diameters of approximately 500 nm, but relatively broad particle size distributions. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed particles with a textured surface, consistent with the expected morphology. Interestingly, analysis of GO sheets recovered from the polymerization revealed that the GO sheets are partially reduced during the polymerization—approximately 50% of the initial carboxyl groups of the GO were lost, consistent with some loss in colloidal stability at high conversion. The overall approach offers a convenient and attractive synthetic route to novel graphene‐based polymeric nanostructures. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

Zn2GeO4/N‐doped graphene nanocomposites have been synthesized through a fast microwave‐assisted route on a large scale. The resulting nanohybrids are comprised of Zn2GeO4 nanorods that are well‐embedded in N‐doped graphene sheets by in situ reducing and doping. Importantly, the N‐doped graphene sheets serve as elastic networks to disperse and electrically wire together the Zn2GeO4 nanorods, thereby effectively relieving the volume‐expansion/contraction and aggregation of the nanoparticles during charge and discharge processes. We demonstrate that an electrode that is made of the as‐formed Zn2GeO4/N‐doped graphene nanocomposite exhibits high capacity (1463 mAh g?1 at a current density of 100 mA g?1), good cyclability, and excellent rate capability (531 mAh g?1 at a current density of 3200 mA g?1). Its superior lithium‐storage performance could be related to a synergistic effect of the unique nanostructured hybrid, in which the Zn2GeO4 nanorods are well‐stabilized by the high electronic conduction and flexibility of N‐doped graphene sheets. This work offers an effective strategy for the fabrication of functionalized ternary‐oxide‐based composites as high‐performance electrode materials that involve structural conversion and transformation.  相似文献

We report three‐dimensional (3D) nanoporous graphene with preserved 2D electronic properties, tunable pore sizes, and high electron mobility for electronic applications. The complex 3D network comprised of interconnected graphene retains a 2D coherent electron system of massless Dirac fermions. The transport properties of the nanoporous graphene show a semiconducting behavior and strong pore‐size dependence, together with unique angular independence. The free‐standing, large‐scale nanoporous graphene with 2D electronic properties and high electron mobility holds great promise for practical applications in 3D electronic devices.  相似文献

High-yield production of few-layer graphene flakes from graphite is important for the scalable synthesis and industrial application of graphene. However, high-yield exfoliation of graphite to form graphene sheets without using any oxidation process or super-strong acid is challenging. Here we demonstrate a solution route inspired by the lithium rechargeable battery for the high-yield (>70%) exfoliation of graphite into highly conductive few-layer graphene flakes (average thickness <5 layers). A negative graphite electrode can be electrochemically charged and expanded in an electrolyte of Li salts and organic solvents under high current density and exfoliated efficiently into few-layer graphene sheets with the aid of sonication. The dispersible graphene can be ink-brushed to form highly conformal coatings of conductive films (15 ohm/square at a graphene loading of <1 mg/cm(2)) on commercial paper.  相似文献

Thin‐layer 2D materials have been attracting enormous interest, and various processes have been investigated to obtain these materials efficiently. In view of their practical applications, the most desirable source for the preparation of these thin‐layer materials is the pristine bulk materials with stacked layers, such as pristine graphite. There are many options in terms of conditions for the exfoliation of thin‐layer materials, and these include wet and dry processes, with or without additives, and the kind of solvent. In this context, we found that the versatile exfoliant hexahydroxytriphenylene works efficiently for the exfoliation of typical 2D materials such as graphene, MoS2, and hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) by both wet and dry processes by using sonication and ball milling, respectively, in aqueous and organic solvents. As for graphene, stable dispersions with relatively high concentrations (up to 0.28 mg mL?1) in water and tetrahydrofuran were obtained from graphite in the presence of hexahydroxytriphenylene by a wet process with the use of bath sonication and by a dry process involving ball milling. Especially, most of the graphite was exfoliated and dispersed as thin‐layer graphene in both aqueous and organic solvents through ball milling, even on a large scale (47–86 % yield). In addition, the exfoliant was easily removed from the precipitated composite by heat treatment without disturbing the graphene structure. Bulk MoS2 and h‐BN were also exfoliated by both wet and dry processes. Similar to graphene, dispersions of MoS2 and h‐BN of high concentrations in water and DMF were produced in high yields through ball milling.  相似文献

The preparation of chemically modified graphene (CMG) generally involves the reduction of graphite oxide (GO) by using various reducing reagents. Herein, we report a free‐radical‐promoted synthesis of CMG, which does not require any conventional reductant. We demonstrated that the phenyl free radical can efficiently promote the conversion of GO into CMG under mild conditions and produces phenyl‐functionalized CMG. This pseudo‐“reduction” process is attributed to a free‐radical‐mediated elimination of the surface‐attached oxygen‐containing functionalities. This work illustrates a new strategy for preparing CMG that is alternative to the conventional means of chemical reduction. Furthermore, the phenyl‐functionalized graphene shows an excellent performance as an electrode material for lithium‐battery applications.  相似文献

Poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) has been employed as a modifying material for the development of new functional materials; then, the functionalized graphene was employed as a support for Pd nanoparticles through a facile method. The structures and morphologies of the as‐synthesized Pd/PDDA–graphene composites were extensively characterized by Raman spectroscopy, XRD, XPS, and TEM. Morphological observation showed that Pd NPs with average diameters of 4.4 nm were evenly deposited over the functionalized graphene sheets. Moreover, the electrochemical experiments indicated that the Pd/PDDA–graphene catalyst showed improved electrocatalytic activity toward alcohol‐oxidation reactions compared to the Pd/graphene and commercial Pd/C systems, as well as previously reported Pd‐based catalysts. This study demonstrates the great potential of PDDA‐functionalized graphene as a support for the development of metal–graphene nanocomposites for important applications in fuel cells.  相似文献

Electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valued products is one of the most important issues but remains a great challenge in chemistry. Herein, we report a novel synthetic approach involving prolonged thermal pyrolysis of hemin and melamine molecules on graphene for the fabrication of a robust and efficient single‐iron‐atom electrocatalyst for electrochemical CO2 reduction. The single‐atom catalyst exhibits high Faradaic efficiency (ca. 97.0 %) for CO production at a low overpotential of 0.35 V, outperforming all Fe‐N‐C‐based catalysts. The remarkable performance for CO2‐to‐CO conversion can be attributed to the presence of highly efficient singly dispersed FeN5 active sites supported on N‐doped graphene with an additional axial ligand coordinated to FeN4. DFT calculations revealed that the axial pyrrolic nitrogen ligand of the FeN5 site further depletes the electron density of Fe 3d orbitals and thus reduces the Fe–CO π back‐donation, thus enabling the rapid desorption of CO and high selectivity for CO production.  相似文献

Zeolites with molecular dimension pores are widely used in petrochemical and fine‐chemical industries. While traditional solvothermal syntheses suffer from environmental, safety, and efficiency issues, the newly developed solvent‐free synthesis is limited by zeolite crystal aggregation. Herein, we report well‐dispersed and faceted silicalite ZSM‐5 zeolite crystals obtained using a solvent‐free synthesis facilitated by graphene oxide (GO). The selective interactions between the GO sheets and different facets, which are confirmed by molecular dynamics simulations, result in oriented growth of the ZSM‐5 crystals along the c‐axis. More importantly, the incorporation of GO sheets into the ZSM‐5 crystals leads to the formation of mesopores. Consequently, the faceted ZSM‐5 crystals exhibit hierarchical pore structures. This synthetic method is superior to conventional approaches because of the features of the ZSM‐5 zeolite.  相似文献

A novel and universal approach towards the unique encapsulation of nanoparticles in the sandwiched graphene sheets is presented here. In the method, a low‐cost, sustainable and environmentally friendly carbon source, glucose, is firstly applied to yield the high‐quality, uniform and coupled graphene sheets in a large scale, and the pre‐fabricated hydrated nanosheets act as the sacrificial templates to generate the enveloped metallic nanoparticles. After controllable oxidation or removal of the encapsulated nanoparticles, sandwiched nanocomposite with oxidizes nanoparticles encapsulated in graphene sheets or pure phase of sandwich‐like and coupled graphene sheets would be achieved. Moreover, the synergic effect on energy storage via Li‐ion batteries is solidly verified in the Co3O4@graphene nanocomposite. More importantly, the unique structure of the nanoparticles‐encapsulated sandwiched graphene sheets will definitely result in additional applications, such as biosensors, supercapacitors and specific catalyses. These results have enriched the family of graphene‐based materials and recognized some new graphene derivatives, which will be considerably meaningful in chemistry and materials sciences.  相似文献
