本文研究了宽频脉冲光在电磁诱导透明介质中的传播特性.结果表明,如果信号光的载波频率在透明窗口内,且频宽相对于透明窗口较宽时,输出信号光的时域宽度展宽,并出现明显的延迟效应;如果信号光的载波频率在介质吸收峰内,且频宽远大于介质吸收峰线宽时,信号光在传播过程中会发生形变,输出信号出现两个峰,峰值依赖于耦合光的频率和光强以及样品的长度,在适当条件下,在输出信号光中可获取较强的时域窄化的光脉冲. 关键词: 电磁诱导透明 脉冲形变 时间延迟 相干叠加  相似文献

We prove that it is possible to freeze a light pulse (i.e., to bring it to a full stop) or even to make its group velocity negative in a coherently driven Doppler broadened atomic medium via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). This remarkable phenomenon of the ultraslow EIT polariton is based on the spatial dispersion of the refraction index n(omega,k), i.e., its wave number dependence, which is due to atomic motion and provides a negative contribution to the group velocity. This is related to, but qualitatively different from, the recently observed light slowing caused by large temporal (frequency) dispersion.  相似文献

The conditions are investigated under which cooperative or superradiant effects are greatest in an inhomogeneously broadened atomic system that is excited by a coherent light pulse. The coupled non-linear atomic equations of motion are solved numerically for excitation pulses of various areas. It is shown that the absolute intensity of the response decreases strongly with decreasing pulse are below π, but that the relative superradiant contribution increases with decreasing pulse area. The reasons for this are discussed, and it is suggested that excitation by a pulse in the neighborhood of π/2 may represent an optimum compromise for the observation of superradiance.  相似文献

On the basis of an expression obtained earlier for the permittivity in the form of a series in powers of the atomic polarizability, the mechanism of damping of light caused by the processes of reemission between two atoms is considered. It is shown that, on an increase in the polarizability, as a consequence of the light frequency approaching the resonance frequency, this mechanism leads to a sharp increase in the extinction coefficient. This effect is caused by the collective behavior of the atoms and is not connected with the natural absorption near the resonance.  相似文献

We present an assessment of the (6s2) (1)S0 ? (6s6p)(3)P0 clock transition frequency in 199Hg with an uncertainty reduction of nearly 3 orders of magnitude and demonstrate an atomic quality factor Q of ~10(14). The 199Hg atoms are confined in a vertical lattice trap with light at the newly determined magic wavelength of 362.5697±0.0011 nm and at a lattice depth of 20E(R). The atoms are loaded from a single-stage magneto-optical trap with cooling light at 253.7 nm. The high Q factor is obtained with an 80 ms Rabi pulse at 265.6 nm. We find the frequency of the clock transition to be 1,128,575,290,808,162.0±6.4(syst)±0.3(stat) Hz (i.e., with fractional uncertainty=5.7×10(-15)). Neither an atom number nor second order Zeeman dependence has yet been detected. Only three laser wavelengths are used for the cooling, lattice trapping, probing, and detection.  相似文献

We show how the pump‐induced sharp holes in homogeneously or inhomogeneously broadened absorption line shapes can be used for the production of ultra‐slow light. We present a detailed discussion of underlying concepts and results on the pump power dependences of the group index and the bandwidth–delay product. Further, we discuss experimental results, which are in agreement with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate multiple frequency conversion via atomic spin coherence of storing a light pulse in a doped solid.The essence of this multiple frequency conversion is four-wave mixing based on stored atomic spin coherence.Through electromagnetically induced transparency,an input probe pulse is stored into atomic spin coherence by modulating the intensity of the control field.By using two different control fields to interact with the coherently prepared medium,the stored atomic spin coherence can be transformed into three different information channels.Multiple frequency conversion is implemented efficiently by manipulating the spectra of the control fields to scatter atomic spin coherence.This multiple frequency conversion is expected to have potential applications in information processing and communication network.  相似文献

The power broadened absorption lineshapes of 2-level sodium atoms were carefully studied, using a frequency stabilized cw dye laser and a highly collimated atomic beam. At low driving fields the absorption lineshape was lorentzian as expected. However, at field intensities greater than 50 mW/cm2, the lineshape exhibited an asymmetry which was attributed to atomic recoil effects.  相似文献

We investigate the dynamical behavior of the dispersion and the absorption in a V-type three level atomic system. It is shown that in the presence of decay-induced interference the probe dispersion and absorption are phase dependent. We find that an incoherent pumping field provides an additional control parameter for switching the group velocity of a light pulse. The required switching times for switching the group velocity of a probe field from subluminal to superluminal pulse propagation is then discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the group velocity of the probe light pulse in an open V-type system with spontaneously generated coherence. We find that, not only varying the relative phase between the probe and driving pulses can but varying the atomic exit rate or incoherent pumping rate also can manipulate dramatically the group velocity, even make the pulse propagation switching from subluminal to superluminal; the subliminal propagation can be companied with gain or absorption, but the superluminal propagation is always companied with absorption.  相似文献

飞秒光学频率梳波长覆盖范围向可见光波长扩展对于碘稳频激光的绝对频率测量以及光钟研究中钟激光的绝对频率测量都具有十分重要的意义. 本文在自行研制掺Er光纤飞秒光学频率梳的基础上, 采用放大-倍频-扩谱的方案, 实现了激光输出波长向可见光波长的扩展. 掺Er光纤飞秒光学频率梳输出的一部分光激光脉冲, 功率约为8 mW, 首先经掺Er光纤放大器将功率提高到531 mW, 此后利用MgO: PPLN晶体倍频, 倍频后激光的功率为170 mW, 倍频效率为32%, 脉冲宽度为85 fs. 倍频后的激光通过光子晶体光纤进行光谱展宽. 通过优化入射光偏振状态可以实现波长覆盖500-1000 nm, 输出功率为85 mW, 耦合效率为50%. 采用小型化碘稳频532 nm Nd: YAG激光器输出激光与光学频率梳光谱展宽后的激光进行拍频可以获得30 dB的拍频信号. 覆盖可见光波长的掺Er光纤飞秒光学频率梳为可见光范围内激光的绝对频率测量提供了技术手段.  相似文献

We report an observation of femtosecond optical fluctuations of transmitted light when a coherent femtosecond pulse propagates through a random medium. They are a result of random interference among scattered waves coming from different trajectories in the time domain. Temporal fluctuations are measured by using cross-correlated frequency optical gating. It is shown that a femtosecond pulse will be broadened and distorted in pulse shape while it is propagating in random medium. The real and imaginary components of transmitted electric field are also distorted severely. The average of the fluctuated transmission pulses yields a smooth profile, probability functions show good agreement with Gaussian distribution.  相似文献

We present an efficient photon-echo experiment based on atomic frequency combs [Phys. Rev. A 79 (2009) 052329]. Echoes containing an energy of up to 35% of that of the input pulse are observed in a Pr3+-doped Y2SiO5 crystal. This material allows for the precise spectral holeburning needed to make a sharp and highly absorbing comb structure. We compare our results with a simple theoretical model with satisfactory agreement. Our results show that atomic frequency combs has the potential for high-efficiency storage of single photons as required in future long-distance communication based on quantum repeaters.  相似文献

We propose a photon echo quantum memory scheme using detuned Raman coupling to long-lived ground states. In contrast to previous three-level schemes based on controlled reversible inhomogeneous broadening that use sequences of pi pulses, the scheme does not require accurate control of the coupling dynamics to the ground states. We present a proof-of-principle experimental realization of our proposal using rubidium atoms in a warm vapor cell. The Raman resonance line is broadened using a magnetic field that varies linearly along the direction of light propagation. Inverting the magnetic field gradient rephases the atomic dipoles and re-emits the light pulse in the forward direction.  相似文献

The analysis of influence of the inhomogeneous distribution of temperature and density of atoms on the probability of absorption of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses in plasma is carried out. A specific example of divertor plasma of tokamaks and absorption in the Lyman series (at the Ly-α line) is considered. It is shown that the absorption probability may exceed relative populations of excited levels in divertor plasma by several orders of magnitude. The influence of the pulse duration on the probability of excitation of an atomic level is considered. The results suggest a possibility of a sharp increase in a fluorescence signal under the action of an ultrashort pulse.  相似文献

We investigate the storage of light in atomic rubidium vapor using a multilevel-tripod scheme. In the system, two collective dark polariton modes exist, forming an effective spinor quasiparticle. Storage of light is performed by dynamically reducing the optical group velocity to zero. After releasing the stored pulse, a beating of the two reaccelerated optical modes is monitored. The observed beating signal oscillates at an atomic transition frequency, opening the way to novel quantum limited measurements of atomic resonance frequencies and quantum switches.  相似文献

We demonstrate the possibility of creating a time gap in the slow light based on spectral hole burning in a fourlevel Doppler broadened sodium atomic system. A time gap is also observed between the slow and the fast light in the hole burning region and near the burnt hole region, respectively. A cloaking time gap is attained in microseconds and no distortion is observed in the transmitted pulse. The width of the time gap is observed to vary with the inverse Doppler effect in this system. Our results may provide a way to create multiple time gaps for a temporal cloak.  相似文献

Starting from the complete set of Maxwell equations and density matrix equations, we derive approximate expressions for the change of pulse envelope and phase in passing samples composed of homogeneously broadened two level systems. The influence of saturation and phase memory on chirped and chirp-free pulses are discussed with respect to characteristic pulse parameters. The phase memory is found to be responsible for the dispersion of the small signal absorption (amplification), the dispersion of the saturation and the inertia of the atomic systems.  相似文献

根据饱和增益理论分析可知,不同抽运光功率对应着介质不同的吸收和增益状态. 在吸收介质中,相干布居振荡效应导致光脉冲经历饱和吸收,光脉冲传输延迟;在增益介质中, 相干布居振荡效应导致光脉冲经历增益饱和,光脉冲传输超前. 本文由铒离子的亚稳态速率方程出发,建立了掺铒光纤中超光速传输的理论模型, 同时得到时间超前的数值解析表达式;讨论了低频率段超光速的饱和现象, 即超光速在低频段并不随着抽运光功率的增强而加强,而在高频率段随抽运光功率的增加而加强.  相似文献

We investigate the dispersion and the absorption properties of a weak field in a three-level Λ and V-type atomic system. We use just an incoherent pumping field to control the group velocity of a light pulse. The slope of dispersion is shown to be changed from positive to negative just by varying the intensity of the indirect incoherent pumping field. Gain-assisted superluminal light propagation appears in this system. No laser field is used in the pumping processes.  相似文献
