The make up, properties and applications of suspensions containing magnetic particles with a size of about 10 nm ‐ usually called ferrofluids ‐ will be discussed. The specific interest in these fluids bases on the fact that they show normal liquid behavior coupled with superparamagnetic properties. That means that it is possible to control the flow and the properties of ferrofluids by means of moderate magnetic fields in the order of about 50 mT. The magnetically controllable forces on ferrofluids open wide fields for basic research as well as for technical applications. Some of the applications of ferrofluids entered everyday live meanwhile and gained high commercial importance. Beside the discussion of the basic properties of these liquids, particular interest will be drawn to the change of their viscosity in the presence of magnetic fields. This effect usually called magnetoviscous effect is one of the most vivid fields of ferrofluid research at present.  相似文献

This paper deals with a bi-criteria single machine scheduling problem with a time-dependent learning effect and release times. The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of the makespan and the total completion time. The problem is NP-hard, thus a mixed integer non-linear programming formulation is presented, and a set of dominance properties are developed. To solve the problem efficiently, a procedure is then proposed by incorporating the dominance properties with an ant colony optimization algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, artificial ants construct solutions as orders of jobs based on the heuristic information as well as pheromone trails. Then, the dominance properties are added to obtain better solutions. To evaluate the algorithm performance, computational experiments are conducted.  相似文献

Properties of Bitumens Modified by Thermoplastic Elastomers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The possibilities of modification of bitumens by blend thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with predominantly maximum long main chains are studied. The evaluation of their properties shows that the blend TPEs display a stronger effect in low-viscosity bitumens, which is associated with improved compatibility of TPEs in bitumens, as evidenced by convergence of the solubility parameters of TPEs and of the aliphatic part of the malthene fraction of bitumens. The relaxation properties of the modified bitumens allow us to judge their stability under operating conditions, to evaluate this effect quantitatively, and to determine the activation energy of the relaxation process.  相似文献

Stephen Yablo has recently argued for a novel solution to the mental causation problem: the mental is related to the physical as determinables are related to determinates; determinables are not causal rivals with their determinates; so the mental and the physical are not causal rivals. Despite its attractions the suggestion seems hard to accept. In this paper I develop the idea that mental properties and physical properties are not causal rivals. Start with property dualism, supervenience, multiple realizability, and the claim that no more than one supervenience base for a mental property can be had by a single instance of the mental property. Then a probabilistic account of causation will be unable to certify either mental properties or physical properties as causal factors for effect types. I suggest that this shows that we should not count mental properties as causal rivals with physical properties.  相似文献

Having an MV-algebra, we can restrict its binary operation addition only to the pairs of orthogonal elements. The resulting structure is known as an effect algebra, precisely distributive lattice effect algebra. Basic algebras were introduced as a generalization of MV-algebras. Hence, there is a natural question what an effect-like algebra can be reached by the above mentioned construction if an MV-algebra is replaced by a basic algebra. This is answered in the paper and properties of these effect-like algebras are studied.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate some new properties of the incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations by studying a 3D model for axisymmetric 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with swirl. The 3D model is derived by reformulating the axisymmetric 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations and then neglecting the convection term of the resulting equations. Some properties of this 3D model are reviewed. Finally, some potential features of the incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations such as the stabilizing effect of the convection are presented.  相似文献

Expanded perlite is a lightweight material with remarkable thermal and acoustic insulation properties, rendering it widely useful in the construction and manufacturing industries. Currently applied perlite expansion technology suffers numerous technical disadvantages, which adversely affect product quality and limit the range of its applications. To overcome these established drawbacks, a new perlite expansion process has been designed on the basis of a vertical electrically heated expansion furnace. The novel furnace enables precise control of experimental conditions, in order to allow for efficient adjustment of particle residence time and internal temperature. The quality of expanded perlite strongly depends on raw material thermophysical properties as well as furnace operating conditions, and the experimental investigation of the isolated effect of each parameter on expanded product quality is technically cumbersome and extremely time-consuming and expensive.A mathematical model for perlite grain expansion has been developed in order to perform a detailed numerical investigation of process efficiency, toward the optimization of the expansion process in the novel pilot-scale furnace. The dynamic model consists of ordinary differential equations for both air and particle heat and momentum balances, as well as nonlinear algebraic equations for both air and perlite melt thermophysical and transport properties, probing the air temperature distribution within the vertical electrical furnace as well as the particle velocity, temperature and size along its trajectory inside the heating chamber. The effect of raw material physical properties (raw feed origin, initial particle size, effective water content) as well as operating parameters (air inlet temperature and flowrate, furnace wall temperature) on evolution of the particle state variables is presented and discussed. Model results indicate perlite expansion is strongly affected by raw ore feed origin, size and water content. Moreover, operating conditions affect expansion considerably, and furnace wall temperature has the strongest effect on the final particle expansion ratio attained. The new dynamic model is instrumental towards achieving a detailed comprehension of perlite expansion in the vertical electrical furnace towards multi-parametric sensitivity analysis, process optimization and efficient control.  相似文献

The state of stress of flat flexible shells with an opening is investigated with allowance for the viscoelastic properties of the material. The equilibrium equations and boundary conditions are written in finite-difference form. A nonlinear system of algebraic equations is solved by successive approximations. A method of accelerating the convergence of slowly converging iteration processes is proposed. The effect of the viscoelastic properties of the shell material on its state of stress is investigated with reference to the example of a polymethyl methacrylate shell. The variations of the ring moment and ring forces at the free edge of the shell are plotted for various moments of time, load values, and flatness parameters. It is shown that as soon as the viscosity factor begins to take effect, the state of stress and strain of the shell changes sharply; the concentration of forces and moments increases in the flexible viscoelastic (as compared with the elastic) shell.Institute of Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev. Basalt fibers are efficient reinforcing fillers for polypropylene because they increase both the mechanical and the tribotechnical properties of composites. Basalt fibers can compete with traditional fillers (glass and asbestos fibers) of polypropylene with respect to technological, economic, and toxic properties. The effect of technological parameters of producing polypropylene-based basalt fiber-reinforced plastics (BFRPs) by combined extrusion on their mechanical properties has been investigated. The extrusion temperature was found to be the main parameter determining the mechanical properties of the BFRPs. With temperature growth from 180 to 240°C, the residual length of the basalt fibers in the composite, as well as the adhesive strength of the polymer-fiber system, increased, while the composite defectiveness decreased. The tensile strength and elastic modulus increased from 35 to 42 MPa and 3.2 to 4.2 GPa, respectively. At the same time, the growth in composite solidity led to its higher brittleness. Thus, a higher temperature of extrusion allows us to produce materials which can be subjected to tensile and bending loads, while the materials produced at a lower temperature of extrusion are impact stable. The effect of the gap size between the extruder body and moving disks on the mechanical properties of the BFRPs is less significant than that of temperature. An increase of the gap size from 2 to 8 mm improves the impregnation quality of the fibers, but the extruder productivity diminishes. The possibility of controling the properties of reinforced polypropylene by varying the technological parameters of combined extrusion is shown. Learning to identify Euclidean figures is an essential content of many elementary school geometry curricula. Students often learn to distinguish among quadrilaterals, for example, by categorizing their geometric properties according to two attributes, namely the length of the edges and the size of the interior angles. But knowing how to differentiate them based on their geometric properties does not necessarily help students to develop the abstract concepts of the inclusive and transitive properties among the quadrilaterals. With the aid of dynamic geometry multimedia software in SmartBoard (SB), a kind of digital whiteboard (DWB), we enhanced the teaching and learning effectiveness by the effect of “animation-on-demand” in classrooms. This is basically a dual delivery of geometric concepts by texts, narrations and words accompanied by pictures, illustrations and animations. The preliminary results of our study on 9-year-old students’ performance in tests given after three such lessons show that those students could differentiate with reasons why a square is a rhombus (inclusion) as well as a parallelogram (transitivity).  相似文献

This paper deals with the modeling of fiber-reinforced PMMA. Focus is on the macroscopic mechanical response with emphasis on the fracture properties such as the ultimate strength and the fracture energy. In order to capture the macroscopic mechanical response of PMMA, a finite element formulation is presented. While the elastic response of the fibres and that of the surrounding matrix are modelled in standard manner, i.e., by standard bulk material models, the relevant failure modes such as cracking of the fibres are accounted for by means of the so-called Strong Discontinuity Approach (SDA). Since the fibres are relatively small, their fracture mechanical properties crucially depend on their geometry, i.e., they show a pronounced size effect. Studies are made of the mechanical and friction engineering properties of a copolymer of trioxane-1,3,5 with dioxolan-1,3 reinforced with dressed carbon fibers based on hydrated cellulose. Polyalkyloxysilanes are used as the finishes. The optimum concentrations of the finishes on the fibrous filler are determined. Relations are obtained to describe the dependence of the mechanical properties of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics on the type of finish and its effect on the condition of the phase boundary between filler and the polymer matrix. The effect of adhesion of the polymer to the fibrous filler on the properties of a randomly reinforced thermoplastic composite is also determined. The dependences of the friction engineering properties of polyacetal-based carbon-plastics on the loading parameters of the friction-loading unit are examined. The material that is developed has high values of strength, elastic modulus, and notch toughness and low values of the friction coefficient and shrinkage. The effect of processing parameters of injection molding on the mechanical and tribotechnical properties of carbon plastics based on polyacetals is investigated. The copolymer of 1,3,5-trioxane with 1,3-dioxolane is used as the polymer matrix. Hydrated cellulose Ural LO-24 carbon fibers are used as the reinforcing filler. The effect of molding temperature, pressing time, and temperature of the casting mould on the properties of carbon plastics is investigated. It has been found that for improving the mechanical properties of carbon plastics it is necessary to raise the molding temperature up to 200–210°C. Prolongation of the technological cycle leads to thermal degradation of the polymer in the cylinder of a casting machine. The mould temperature only slightly affects the composite strength properties, but lower temperatures create better conditions for polymer crystallization. A generalized dynamic model to depict the wave propagation properties in surface acoustic wave nano-devices is established based on the Hamilton's principle and variational approach. The surface effect, equivalent to additional thin films, is included with the aid of the surface elasticity, surface piezoelectricity and surface permittivity. It is demonstrated that this generalized dynamic model can be reduced into some classical cases, suitable for macro-scale and nano-scale, if some specific assumptions are utilized. In numerical simulations, Love wave propagation in a typical surface acoustic wave device composed of a piezoelectric ceramic transducer film and an aluminum substrate, as well as the shear-horizontal vibration of a piezoelectric plate, is investigated consequently to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the surface effect. Correspondingly, a critical thickness that distinguishes surface effect from macro-mechanical behaviors is proposed, below which the size-dependent properties must be considered. Not limited as Love waves, the theoretical model will provide us a useful mathematical tool to analyze surface effect in nano-devices, which can be easily extended to other type of waves, such as Bleustein-Gulyaev waves and general Rayleigh waves.  相似文献

Recently a constructive theory of pseudorandomness of binary sequences has been developed and many constructions for binary sequences with strong pseudorandom properties have been given. In the applications one usually needs large families of binary sequences of this type. In this paper we adapt the notions of collision and avalanche effect to study these pseudorandom properties of families of binary sequences. We test two of the most important constructions for these pseudorandom properties, and it turns out that one of the two constructions is ideal from this point of view as well, while the other construction does not possess these pseudorandom properties. The environmental durability of carbon nanotube (CNT)-modified carbon-fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) is investigated. The key problem of these new-generation composites is the modification of their polymer matrix with nanoscaled fillers. It was recently demonstrated that the damage tolerance of these materials, as manifested by their fracture toughness, impact properties, and fatigue life, can be improved by adding CNTs at weight fractions as low as 0.5%. This improvement is mainly attributed to the incorporation of an additional interfacial area between the CNTs and the matrix, which is active at the nanoscale. However, this additional interface could have a negative effect on the environmental durability of the aforementioned systems, since it is well known that the moisture absorption ability of a matrix is enhanced by the presence of multiple interfaces, which serve as an ingress route to water. To examine this problem, CNT-modified CFRPs were exposed to hydrothermal loadings. At specified intervals, the composites were weighted, and the water uptake vs. time was recorded for both the modified and a reference systems. The electrical conductivity of the composites was registered at the same time intervals. After the environmental exposure, the interlaminar shear properties of the conditioned composite systems were measured and compared with those of unmodified composites, as well as with the shear properties of unexposed laminates. The problem of the state of stress of flexible plates with an opening is investigated with allowance for the viscoelastic properties of the material. The basic equations and the corresponding boundary conditions are formulated. The boundary value problem is solved by numerical integration. The effect of the creep properties of the material on the stress redistribution in the plate is investigated with reference to polymethyl methacrylate. Effects of noises and some other network properties on the weak signal propagation are studied systematically in feedforward acupuncture networks (FFN) based on FitzHugh–Nagumo neuron model. It is found that noises with medium intensity can enhance signal propagation and this effect can be further increased by the feedforward network structure. Resonant properties in the noisy network can also be altered by several network parameters, such as heterogeneity, synapse features, and feedback connections. These results may also provide a novel potential explanation for the propagation of acupuncture signal.  相似文献

生长曲线模型是一个典型的多元线性模型, 在现代统计学上占有重要地位. 文章首先基于Potthoff-Roy变换后的生长曲线模型, 采用自适应LASSO为惩罚函数给出了参数矩阵的惩罚最小二乘估计, 实现了变量的选择. 其次, 基于局部渐近二次估计, 对生长曲线模型的惩罚最小二乘估计给出了统一的近似估计表达式. 接着, 讨论了经过Potthoff-Roy变换后模型的惩罚最小二乘估计, 证明了自适应LASSO具有Oracle性质. 最后对几种变量选择方法进行了数据模拟. 结果表明自适应LASSO效果比较好. 另外, 综合考虑, Potthoff-Roy变换优于拉直变换.  相似文献
