Particle shape contributes to understanding the physical and chemical processes of the atmosphere and better ascertaining the origins and chemical compositions of the particles. The particle shape can be classified by the aspect ratio,which can be estimated through the asymmetry factor measured with angularly resolved light scattering. An experimental method of obtaining the asymmetry factor based on simultaneous small forward angle light scattering and aerodynamic size measurements is described briefly. The near forward scattering intensity signals of three detectors in the azimuthal angles at 120?offset are calculated using the methods of T-matrix and discrete dipole approximation. Prolate spheroid particles with different aspect ratios are used as the shape models with the assumption that the symmetry axis is parallel to the flow axis and perpendicular to the incident light. The relations between the asymmetry factor and the optical size and aerodynamic size at various equivalent sizes, refractive indices, and mass densities are discussed in this paper. The numerically calculated results indicate that an elongated particle may be classified at diameter larger than 1.0 μm, and may not be distinguished from a sphere at diameter less than 0.5 μm. It is estimated that the lowest detected aspect ratio is around 1.5:1 in consideration of the experimental errors.  相似文献

Characteristic energy-loss measurments of electrons incident on aluminium foils at angles of 0° and 45° to foil normal show peaks corresponding to the ω+ and ω? modes of the surface plasma oscillation. An energy asymmetry about zero scattering angle is observed for the inclined foil, in agreement with the retarded dispersion theory. The intensity ratios of the two modes at different angles of incidence and scattering are in satisfactory qualitative agreement with the theory for oxide coated foils.  相似文献

A transition matrix approach is used to compute the scattering and absorption cross sections, as well as phase functions, asymmetry factors and forward scattering ratios, of clusters of spherical particles. In order to approach the local structure and composition of the nanosized active layer of photoelectrochemical solar cells, some clusters consist of homogeneous non-absorbing anatase spherical pigments, others have anatase particles coated with a monolayer of absorbing dye molecules, and others can consist of both uncoated and dye-coated anatase particles. Orientation average values of the volumetric scattering and absorption cross sections are computed in terms of the size of the spherical particles in the clusters and their number. The degree of scattering and absorption when considering dye-coated anatase particles in the clusters is characterized. The effect of dependent scattering on the average angular distribution of the scattered radiation is also considered.  相似文献

The ability of the finite volume method (FVM) and the discrete ordinates method (DOM) to model radiative heat transfer in acute forward anisotropic scattering media has been investigated. The test case involves a purely scattering medium in a cubic enclosure, irradiated by one boundary with diffuse emission. Four phase functions have been considered: three of the Henyey-Greenstein type with respective asymmetry factors of 0.2, 0.8 and 0.93, and a Mie phase function with a strong forward scattering peak (computed for a size parameter of 245 and corresponding to an asymmetry factor of 0.93). Results obtained with the FVM are in good agreement with Monte Carlo reference solutions, whatever the level of acute anisotropic scattering (for asymmetry factors up to 0.93). The DOM combined with the renormalization procedures of the phase function proposed by Kim and Lee (Effect of anisotropic scattering on radiative heat transfer in two-dimensional rectangular enclosures. Int J Heat Mass Transfer 1988;31:1711-21. [1]) and Wiscombe (On initialization error and flux conservation in the doubling method. JQSRT 1976;18:637-58. [2]) provides accurate results only for the smallest asymmetry factor. As the asymmetry factor increases, the renormalization procedures induce strong modifications in the values of the discretized phase function resulting in an underestimation of the effective attenuation by scattering. This error has been found to increase with optical thickness. In fact, when using the DOM, results would be more accurate combining this method with a Delta-Eddington approximation of the phase function, instead of using the actual phase function which is altered too much by renormalization.  相似文献

The parity violating electron scattering is investigated in the relativistic Eikonal approximation. The parity violating asymmetry parameters for many isotopes are calculated. In calculations the proton and neutron densities are obtained from the relativistic mean-field theory. We take Ni isotopes as examples to analyse the behaviour of the parity violating asymmetry parameters. The results show that the parity violating asymmetry parameter is sensitive to the difference between the proton and neutron densities. The amplitude of the parity violating asymmetry parameter increases with the distance between the minima of proton and neutron form factors. Our results are useful for future parity violating electron scattering experiments. By comparing our results with experimental data one can test the validity of the relativistic mean-field theory in calculating the neutron densities of nuclei.  相似文献

The azimuthal asymmetry in deep inelastic scattering is calculated in first order QCD for nonvanishing intrinsic transverse momentum; the hadronization is simulated with a Monte-Carlo program. It turns out that, within our scheme, the asymmetry data are mainly sensitive to the intrinsic transverse momentum. The QCD contribution to the asymmetry is small.  相似文献

以包含灰尘、黑碳和水三种成分的单分散内混合初次气溶胶为例,利用消光、吸收、散射效率因子和不对称因子,探讨了以等效折射率描述具有不同成分的内混合气溶胶粒子系统的适用性。结果表明,在尺度参数为0.1~25时不同半径比下,消光、吸收和散射效率因子的等效性较好,相对误差分别在3%、3%和4%以内;不对称因子的等效性相对稍差,相对误差在13%以内。当半径比a/b小于1/5,即内混合体中所含灰尘和黑碳较少时,等效折射率实部和虚部值基本可以确定,而不必考虑尺度参数的影响。用除散射相函数之外的其他光学量来等效时,较为容易找到等效的气溶胶粒子。  相似文献

通过对不同激光条件产生的等离子体进行Thomson散射实验诊断,发现在距靶面为150 μm的临界密度面内,离子声波双峰强度出现明显的不对称性,而且强峰的位置发生了转移:当等离子体的电子温度较高时,强峰出现在短波方向;当等离子体电子温度较低时,强峰出现在长波方向.光的拉曼散射效应对应地解释了离子声波的双峰结构、双峰强度不对称性及强峰出现的位置.建立了光的拉曼散射与电子的Thomson散射的对应关系.  相似文献

利用Cluster-cluster aggregation (CCA)模型,模拟了由64个球形原始微粒凝聚而成的四种随机取向气溶胶凝聚粒子。结合离散偶极子近似方法,分别得到了不同入射角和不同尺寸参数情况下气溶胶凝聚粒子的吸收、散射、消光效率因子和不对称因子的数值结果,并比较分析了四种形状气溶胶凝聚粒子吸收、散射、消光效率因子和不对称因子的差异。结果显示:对于相同数目原始微粒的气溶胶凝聚粒子,其光学特性明显依赖于入射光的入射角度和气溶胶凝聚粒子的形状;对于不同尺寸参数的气溶胶凝聚粒子,当入射光波长给定时,吸收、散射和消光效率因子最初随尺寸参数增大而快速增大,随后又随尺寸参数增大缓慢变小,但在尺寸参数变化过程中存在一个极大值;不对称因子则随尺寸参数的增大一直呈增大趋势,且随尺寸参数的增大趋近于1。  相似文献

We present a technique for determining the asymmetry parameter and scattering coefficient of turbid media from spatially resolved reflectance measurements. This technique will contribute to the development of medical applications in which it is necessary to predict the distribution and propagation of light in tissue. Based on Monte Carlo simulations, we derived correlations which relate the reduced scattering coefficient and the asymmetry parameter to the relative reflectance curve. Initial estimates of the optical properties are obtained from these correlations. Final values are obtained by adjusting the optical parameters and repeating the Monte Carlo simulations until the simulated reflectance pattern matches the measured reflectance pattern. Preliminary experimental results indicate that this technique can be used to determine the asymmetry parameter to within 10% and the reduced scattering coefficient to within 5%.  相似文献

We present measurements of the Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) resistivity on GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunctions. We compare measurements in which in the same sample the electron density was increased to the same value either by applying a back-gate voltage or illumination. We conclude that both the overlap of the electron wavefunctions in the two-dimensional electron gas with positive and negative scattering centers and the number of positive and negative scatterers determine the asymmetry in the SdH-peaks. The asymmetry in the SdH-peaks depends on the electron density because the scattering on remote and background impurities have a different electron density dependence. After illumination the neutralization rate of the acceptors in the GaAs determines whether the asymmetry increases or decreases. We show that the asymmetry of the SdH-peaks can also be modified by applying uniaxial stress.  相似文献

We report a new measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron scattering from the proton at backward scattering angles. This asymmetry is sensitive to the strange magnetic form factor of the proton as well as electroweak axial radiative corrections. The new measurement of A = -4.92+/-0.61+/-0.73 ppm provides a significant constraint on these quantities. The implications for the strange magnetic form factor are discussed in the context of theoretical estimates for the axial corrections.  相似文献

We estimate the cross-section and asymmetry relevant for the production of forward jets in polarized deep inelastic scattering in the region of small values of x which can be probed at possible polarized HERA measurements. The kinematical cuts implemented in our analysis are the same as those which were used in the unpolarized deep inelastic scattering at HERA. The calculations are based on the double ln2(1/x) resummation which controls the polarized deep inelastic scattering for small values of the Bjorken parameter x. We show that this resummation substantially enhances the corresponding cross-section and asymmetry. The predicted value of the asymmetry is found to vary between −0.01 and −0.04 within the small x region which can possibly be probed at polarized HERA measurements.  相似文献

The Sivers mechanism for the single-spin asymmetry in unpolarized lepton scattering from a transversely polarized nucleon is driven by the orbital angular momentum carried by its quark and gluon constituents, combined with QCD final-state interactions. Both quark and gluon mechanisms can generate such a single-spin asymmetry, though only the quark mechanism can explain the small single-spin asymmetry measured by the COMPASS Collaboration on the deuteron, suggesting the gluon mechanism is small relative to the quark mechanism. We detail empirical studies through which the gluon and quark orbital angular momentum contributions, quark-flavor by quark-flavor, can be elucidated.  相似文献

The spin asymmetry of elastic and inelastic scattering of nonequilibrium holes injected into Co thin films is examined using a p-type magnetic tunnel transistor. Spin-dependent transmission yields a positive or negative magnetocurrent depending on Co thickness and hole energy. Up to a critical thickness of about 3 nm, (quasi)elastic scattering dominates with a short attenuation length (<1 nm) and preferential attenuation of holes in the majority spin bands, consistent with spin-wave emission. At a larger Co thickness, inelastic scattering dominates with a larger attenuation length ( approximately 4 nm) and opposite spin asymmetry.  相似文献

Elastic scattering of neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons is considered. It is shown that the measurement of the neutrino-antineutrino asymmetry would allow to obtain model independent information on the strange axial and vector form factors. The ratio of the magnetic form factors of the proton and neutron, on which the asymmetry depends, is investigated in detail. The asymmetry is calculated under different assumptions on the behavior of the strange vector and axial form factors.  相似文献

核子中奇异-反奇异夸克分布的不对称性是核子结构研究中的重要非微扰效应, 然而至今未被实验所直接检验.为了探讨测量这种奇异分布不对称性的有效方法,考察了轻味夸克碎裂效应对测量奇异分布不对称性的影响.建议通过直接测量高能中微子和反中微子的带电流深度非弹散射中的带电和中性D介子的微分截面来测量奇异分布的不对称性.这种方法能够使奇异分布不对称性与轻味夸克碎裂的效应相分离.  相似文献

We have measured the beam-normal single-spin asymmetries in elastic scattering of transversely polarized electrons from the proton, and performed the first measurement in quasielastic scattering on the deuteron, at backward angles (lab scattering angle of 108°) for Q2 = 0.22 GeV2/c2 and 0.63 GeV2/c2 at beam energies of 362 and 687 MeV, respectively. The asymmetry arises due to the imaginary part of the interference of the two-photon exchange amplitude with that of single-photon exchange. Results for the proton are consistent with a model calculation which includes inelastic intermediate hadronic (πN) states. An estimate of the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry for the scattering from the neutron is made using a quasistatic deuterium approximation, and is also in agreement with theory.  相似文献
