In this paper we consider standard fixed tree games, for which each vertex unequal to the root is inhabited by exactly one player. We present two weighted allocation rules, the weighted down-home allocation and the weighted neighbour-home allocation, both inspired by the painting story in Maschler et al. (1995) . We show, in a constructive way, that the core equals both the set of weighted down-home allocations and the set of weighted neighbour allocations. Since every weighted down-home allocation specifies a weighted Shapley value (Kalai and Samet (1988)) in a natural way, and vice versa, our results provide an alternative proof of the fact that the core of a standard fixed tree game equals the set of weighted Shapley values. The class of weighted neighbour allocations is a generalization of the nucleolus, in the sense that the latter is in this class as the special member where players have all equal weights.  相似文献

A core concept is a solution concept on the class of balanced games that exclusively selects core allocations. We show that every continuous core concept that satisfies both the equal treatment property and a new property called independence of irrelevant core allocations (IIC) necessarily selects egalitarian allocations. IIC requires that, if the core concept selects a certain core allocation for a given game, and this allocation is still a core allocation for a new game with a core that is contained in the core of the first game, then the core concept also chooses this allocation as the solution to the new game. When we replace the continuity requirement by a weak version of additivity we obtain an axiomatization of the egalitarian solution concept that assigns to each balanced game the core allocation minimizing the Euclidean distance to the equal share allocation.  相似文献

This paper deals with cooperation situations in linear production problems in which a set of goods are to be produced from a set of resources so that a certain benefit function is maximized, assuming that resources not used in the production plan have no value by themselves. The Owen set is a well-known solution rule for the class of linear production processes. Despite their stability properties, Owen allocations might give null payoff to players that are necessary for optimal production plans. This paper shows that, in general, the aforementioned drawback cannot be avoided allowing only allocations within the core of the cooperative game associated to the original linear production process, and therefore a new solution set named EOwen is introduced. For any player whose resources are needed in at least one optimal production plan, the EOwen set contains at least one allocation that assigns a strictly positive payoff to such player.  相似文献

We consider several related set extensions of the core and the anticore of games with transferable utility. An efficient allocation is undominated if it cannot be improved, in a specific way, by sidepayments changing the allocation or the game. The set of all such allocations is called the undominated set, and we show that it consists of finitely many polytopes with a core-like structure. One of these polytopes is the $L_1$ -center, consisting of all efficient allocations that minimize the sum of the absolute values of the excesses. The excess Pareto optimal set contains the allocations that are Pareto optimal in the set obtained by ordering the sums of the absolute values of the excesses of coalitions and the absolute values of the excesses of their complements. The $L_1$ -center is contained in the excess Pareto optimal set, which in turn is contained in the undominated set. For three-person games all these sets coincide. These three sets also coincide with the core for balanced games and with the anticore for antibalanced games. We study properties of these sets and provide characterizations in terms of balanced collections of coalitions. We also propose a single-valued selection from the excess Pareto optimal set, the min-prenucleolus, which is defined as the prenucleolus of the minimum of a game and its dual.  相似文献

We present a unifying framework for transferable utility coalitional games that are derived from a non-negative matrix in which every entry represents the value obtained by combining the corresponding row and column. We assume that every row and every column is associated with a player, and that every player is associated with at most one row and at most one column. The instances arising from this framework are called pairing games, and they encompass assignment games and permutation games as two polar cases. We show that the core of a pairing game is always non-empty by proving that the set of pairing games coincides with the set of permutation games. Then we exploit the wide range of situations comprised in our framework to investigate the relationship between pairing games that have different player sets, but are defined by the same underlying matrix. We show that the core and the set of extreme core allocations are immune to the merging of a row player with a column player. Moreover, the core is also immune to the reverse manipulation, i.e., to the splitting of a player into a row player and a column player. Other common solution concepts fail to be either merging-proof or splitting-proof in general.  相似文献

We consider a class of coalition formation games called hedonic games, i.e., games in which the utility of a player is completely determined by the coalition that the player belongs to. We first define the class of subset-additive hedonic games and show that they have the same representation power as the class of hedonic games. We then define a restriction of subset-additive hedonic games that we call subset-neutral hedonic games and generalize a result by Bogomolnaia and Jackson (2002) by showing the existence of a Nash stable partition and an individually stable partition in such games. We also consider neutrally anonymous hedonic games and show that they form a subclass of the subset-additive hedonic games. Finally, we show the existence of a core stable partition that is also individually stable in neutrally anonymous hedonic games by exhibiting an algorithm to compute such a partition.  相似文献

We consider the problem of efficiently managing a fishery where pollution externalities are present. The open‐access bionomic model is analyzed in an ‐player differential game framework with two‐state variables, that is, the fish stock and the pollution stock. We characterize the noncooperative feedback‐Nash equilibrium and cooperative solution, and define an egalitarian sharing rule to allocate the joint welfare maximizing payoff over an infinite time horizon, and show that this rule is time consistent. This paper considers a subclass of minimum cost spanning tree games, called information graph games. It is proved that the core of these games can be described by a set of at most 2n — 1 linear constraints, wheren is the number of players. Furthermore, it is proved that each information graph game has an associated concave information graph game, which has the same core as the original game. Consequently, the set of extreme core allocations of an information graph game is characterized as the set of marginal allocation vectors of its associated concave game. Finally, it is proved that all extreme core allocations of an information graph game are marginal allocation vectors of the game itself, though not all marginal allocation vectors need to be core allocations.  相似文献

In the context of cooperative TU-games, we introduce a recursive procedure to distribute the surplus of cooperation when there is an exogenous ordering among the set of players N. In each step of the process, using a given notion of reduced games, an upper and a lower bound for the payoff to the player at issue are required. Sequentially compatible payoffs are defined as those allocation vectors that meet these recursive bounds. For a family of reduction operations, the behavior of this new solution concept is analyzed. For any ordering of N, the core of the game turns out to be the set of sequentially compatible payoffs when the Davis–Maschler reduced games are used. Finally, we study which reduction operations give an advantage to the first player in the ordering.  相似文献

In cooperative game theory the Shapley value is different from the egalitarian value, the latter of which allocates payoffs equally. The null player property and the nullifying player property assign zero payoff to each null player and each nullifying player, respectively. It is known that if the null player property for characterizing the Shapley value is replaced by the nullifying player property, then the egalitarian value is determined uniquely. We propose several properties to replace the nullifying player property to characterize the egalitarian value. Roughly speaking, the results in this note hint that equal division for players of certain types may lead to the egalitarian allocation.  相似文献

We provide new characterizations of the egalitarian bargaining solution on the class of strictly comprehensive n-person bargaining problems. The main axioms used in all of our results are Nash’s IIA and disagreement point monotonicity—an axiom which requires a player’s payoff to strictly increase in his disagreement payoff. For n = 2 these axioms, together with other standard requirements, uniquely characterize the egalitarian solution. For n > 2 we provide two extensions of our 2-person result, each of which is obtained by imposing an additional axiom on the solution. Dropping the axiom of anonymity, strengthening disagreement point monotonicity by requiring player i’s payoff to be a strictly decreasing function of the disagreement payoff of every other player ji, and adding a “weak convexity” axiom regarding changes of the disagreement point, we obtain a characterization of the class of weighted egalitarian solutions. This “weak convexity” axiom requires that a movement of the disagreement point in the direction of the solution point should not change the solution point. We also discuss the so-called “transfer paradox” and relate it to this axiom.  相似文献

In a multichoice game a coalition is characterized by the level at which each player is acting, and to each coalition a real number is assigned. A multichoice solution assigns, for each multichoice game, a numerical value to each possible activity level of each player, intended to measure the contribution of each such level to reaching the grand coalition in which each player is active at the maximal level. The paper focuses on the egalitarian multichoice solution, characterized by the properties of Efficiency, Zero Contribution, Additivity, Anonymity, and Level Symmetry. The egalitarian solution is also shown to satisfy the property of marginalism: it measures the effect of lowering, ceteris paribus, a certain activity level by one. The solution is compared to a multichoice solution studied in Klijn, Slikker, and Zarzuelo (1999). Finally, it is discussed how the formalism of this paper can be applied to the different framework of multi-attribute utilities.  相似文献

It is shown that no solution concept that selects sequentially rational (perfect, proper, persistent, or members of some stable set of) equilibria satisfies the following consistency property. Suppose that in every solution of the game G, player i's action is a, and denote by G a the game in which player i is restricted to choose a. Then some player ji has an action c that is used with positive probability in both some solution of G and some solution of G a. In this note we consider the pairwise egalitarian solution (Sánchez-Soriano, 2003) on the domain of assignment games and study its relation with the core. Strengthening the dominant diagonal condition (Solymosi and Raghavan, 2001), we introduce k-dominant diagonal assignment games (k≥1), analyzing for which values of k the pairwise egalitarian solution fulfills the standards of fairness represented by the Lorenz domination and the kernel. We also characterize the Thompson’s fair division point (Thompson, 1981) for arbitrary assignment games.  相似文献

The buffer allocation problem (BAP) is a well-known difficult problem in the design of production lines. We present a stochastic algorithm for solving the BAP, based on the cross-entropy method, a new paradigm for stochastic optimization. The algorithm involves the following iterative steps: (a) the generation of buffer allocations according to a certain random mechanism, followed by (b) the modification of this mechanism on the basis of cross-entropy minimization. Through various numerical experiments we demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm and show that the method can quickly generate (near-)optimal buffer allocations for fairly large production lines.  相似文献

Let Γ≡(N,v) be a cooperative game with the player set N and characteristic function v: 2NR. An imputation of the game is in the core if no subset of players could gain advantage by splitting from the grand coalition of all players. It is well known that, for the flow game (and equivalently, for the linear production game), the core is always non-empty and a solution in the core can be found in polynomial time. In this paper, we show that, given an imputation x, it is NP-complete to decide x is not a member of the core, for the flow game. We investigate the implications of two axioms specifying how a value should respond to changes in the set of players for TU games. Population solidarity requires that the arrival of new players should affect all the original players in the same direction: all gain together or all lose together. On the other hand, population fair-ranking requires that the arrival of new players should not affect the relative positions of the original players. As a result, we obtain characterizations of the egalitarian value, which assigns to each player an equal share over an individual utility level. It is the only value satisfying either one of the two axioms together with efficiency, symmetry and strategic equivalence.  相似文献

Given an assignment market, we introduce a set of vectors, one for each possible ordering on the player set, which we name the max-payoff vectors. Each one of these vectors is obtained recursively only making use of the assignment matrix. Those max-payoff vectors that are efficient turn out to give the extreme core allocations of the market. Quitting games are multi-player sequential games in which, at every stage, each player has the choice between continuing and quitting. The game ends as soon as at least one player chooses to quit; each player i then receives a payoff r S i, which depends on the set S of players that did choose to quit. If the game never ends, the payoff to each player is zero.? We exhibit a four-player quitting game, where the “simplest” equilibrium is periodic with period two. We argue that this implies that all known methods to prove existence of an equilibrium payoff in multi-player stochastic games are therefore bound to fail in general, and provide some geometric intuition for this phenomenon.
