Lattice-Boltzmann Simulation of Capillary Rise Dynamics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We report results of extensive two-phase lattice-Boltzmann simulations of capillary rise dynamics. We demonstrate that the method can be used to model the hydrodynamic behaviour inside a capillary tube provided that the diameter of the tube is large enough, typically at least 30 lattice units. We also present results for the dependence of the cosine of the dynamic contact angle on the capillary number Ca. Its deviation from the static advancing contact angle has a power-law form, with the value of the exponent very close to 3/2 for capillary rise at zero gravity, while behaviour is more complex in the presence of gravity.  相似文献

The fractai expressions for flow rate and hydraulic conductivity for power-law fluids in a single capillary are derived based on the fractai nature of tortuous capillaries. Every parameter in the proposed expressions has clear physical meaning. The flow rate and hydraulic conductivity for power-law fluids are found to be related to the tortuosity fractal dimension and the power-law index. The flow rate for power-law fluids increases with the increasing power-law index but decreases with the increasing tortuosity fractal dimension. Good agreement between the model predictions for flow in a fractai capillary and in a converging-diverging duct is obtained. The results suggest that the fractal capillary model can be used to model the power-law fluids with different rheologicai properties.  相似文献

对大气颗粒物进行单颗粒X射线荧光(XRF)分析,是一种识别大气颗粒物来源的有力手段.为了利用实验室X射线光源对大气颗粒物进行单颗粒XRF分析,建立了基于整体毛细管X光透镜和实验室X射线光源的微束X射线谱仪.透镜焦斑处的功率密度增益在103数量级,焦斑直径为30 μm左右.该微束X射线谱仪对Fe-Kα线的最小探测极限为0.7 Pg.在Mo靶光源电压和电流分别为30 kV和50 mA的条件下,利用该谱仪对直径为9 μm的大气颗粒物单颗粒进行XRF分析时,测谱时间在180 s左右.实验表明,基于毛细管X光透镜和实验室X射线光源的微束X射线分析技术在大气颗粒物单颗粒分析中有着潜在的应用价值.  相似文献

We show that a capillary surface in a solid cone, that is, a surface that has constant mean curvature and for which the surface boundary meets the boundary of the cone at a constant angle, is radially graphical if the mean curvature is non-positive with respect to the Gauss map pointing towards the domain bounded by the surface and the boundary of the cone. In the particular case in which the cone is circular, we prove that the surface is a spherical cap or a planar disc. The proofs are based on an extension of the Alexandrov reflection method using inversions about spheres.  相似文献

If a long air bubble is placed inside a vertical tube closed at the top it can rise by displacing the fluid above it. However, Bretherton found that if the tube radius, R, is smaller than a critical value \(R_{c}=0.918 \; \ell _c\), where \(\ell _c=\sqrt{\gamma /\rho g}\) is the capillary length, there is no solution corresponding to steady rise. Experimentally, the bubble rise appears to have stopped altogether. Here we explain this observation by studying the unsteady bubble motion for \(R<R_{c}\). We find that the minimum spacing between the bubble and the tube goes to zero in limit of large t like \(t^{-4/5}\), leading to a rapid slow-down of the bubble’s mean speed \(U \propto t^{-2}\). As a result, the total bubble rise in infinite time remains very small, giving the appearance of arrested motion.  相似文献

Small-angle x-ray and neutron scattering are used to characterize the surface roughness and porosity of a natural rock which are described over three decades in length scales and over nine decades in scattered intensities by a surface fractal dimension D = 2.68+/-0.03. When this porous medium is exposed to a vapor of a contrast-matched water, neutron scattering reveals that surface roughness disappears at small scales, where a Porod behavior typical of smooth interfaces is observed instead. Water-sorption measurements confirm that such interface smoothing is due predominantly to the water condensing in the most strongly curved asperities rather than covering the surface with a wetting film of uniform thickness.  相似文献

This experimental study describes a hysteresis—a vivid manifestation of strongly nonlinear flow physics. A sealed vertical cylindrical container of radius 45 mm and height 90 mm is filled with water and sunflower oil. The rotating lid drives swirl and themeridional circulation of both fluids. As the rotation strength Re increases, the oil–water interface rises near the axis, touches the lid at Re = Re1, and moves toward the container sidewall. Then as Re decreases, the interface returns to the axis and separates fromthe lid at Re = Re2 < Re1. At each Re from the range, Re2 < Re < Re1, two different stable steady flow states are observed, which is typical of hysteresis. The hysteresis only occurs if a volume fraction of oil is small. The hysteresis disappears as the oil fraction exceeds a threshold, which is around 0.4.  相似文献

A capillary NMR flow probe was designed to generate high-resolution 1H NMR spectra at 600 MHz from the cleaved product of individual 160-μm Tentagel combinatorial chemistry beads. By injecting a dissolved sample sandwiched between an immiscible, perfluorinated organic liquid directly into the probe, NMR spectra of the product cleaved from single beads were acquired in just 1 h of spectrometer time without diffusional dilution. Sample handling efficiency on the single bead scale was comparable to that obtained with a bulk sample. Using the relative intensity of the DMSO-d5H versus the analyte signals in a fully relaxed CPMG spectrum, the amount of product cleaved from a single bead was determined to be 540±170 pmol in one of the samples. Following the NMR data collection, the samples were examined with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry to provide additional structural information. By coupling with microliter-volume fluidic capabilities, the capillary flow probe described here will enable multidimensional characterization of single solid-phase resin products in an online manner.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulation has been used to characterize the capillary force due to the condensation of a liquid meniscus between a tip with a nanoscale asperity and a flat surface. To consider both hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecules coating the tip as a model of dip-pen nanolithography, tips with various wettabilities are studied. The capillary force due to the meniscus is calculated for various saturations (humidities). We have implemented a thermodynamic integration technique that can project the force into energetic and entropic contributions. In most cases, the force is mainly energetic in origin. At the snap-off separation where the meniscus disappears, the tip feels a significant entropic force at high saturation. Our calculation shows nonmonotonic behavior of the pull-off force as a function of saturation, which is in qualitative accord with experiments.  相似文献

Using density-functional theory, we have analyzed the phase behavior of a model liquid crystal confined between two parallel, planar surfaces (i.e., the so-called slit pore). As a result of confinement, a rich phase behavior arises. The complete liquid-crystal phase diagram of the confined fluid is mapped out as a function of wall separation and chemical potential. Strong commensuration effects in the film with respect to wall separation lead to enhanced smectic ordering, which gives capillary smectization (i.e., formation of a smectic phase in the pore), or frustrated smectic ordering, which suppresses capillary smectization. These effects also produce layering transitions. Our nonlocal density-functional-based analysis provides a unified picture of all the above phenomena.  相似文献

从几何光学出发,推导了毛细管干涉仪的从柱面透镜到接收屏的光线的光程.对光线追迹模拟,结果表明毛细管干涉仪的干涉条纹的形成可用双光束的干涉来解释.从柱面不同位置入射的两条光线可能具有相同的光程,而且从柱面透镜不同位置出发的两条光线可能到达接收屏的同一点,当它们满足相干条件时,就会形成干涉条纹.建立了干涉条纹的计算机模拟程序, 模拟了毛细管中液体折射率、毛细管内径、外径对干涉条纹的影响. 结果表明实验中应使用薄壁毛细管, 由于干涉条纹对柱面透镜到毛细管之间的距离非常敏感, 为提高精度, 建议在实验中用已知折射率的标样来确定这一距离.  相似文献

To understand capillary interactions between probe tips and nanoparticles under ambient conditions, a theoretical model of capillary forces between them is developed based on the geometric relations. It is found that the contribution of surface tension force to the total capillary force attains to similar order of magnitude as the capillary pressure force in many cases. It is also shown that the tip shape and the radial distance of the meniscus have great influence on the capillary force. The capillary force decreases with the increasing separation distances, and the variance of the contact angles may change the magnitudes of capillary forces several times at large radial distances. The applicability of the symmetric meniscus approximation is discussed.  相似文献

In this talk, the interaction of a single photon injected to a single atom is studied, for which initially the photon is uncorrelated with the atom. The spontaneous emitted photon will then evolve to be entangled with the atom on their continuous kinetic variables (momentum) in the process of resonant scattering. We find the relations between the entanglement and their physical control parameters (such as the linewidth of the injected photon wave packet, and that of the atomic wave packet, etc. ), which indicates that high entanglement can be reached by broadening the scale of the atomic wave or squeezing the linewidth of the incident single-photon pulse.  相似文献

Single particles moving in a reflection-asymmetric potential are investigated by solving the Schr ¨odinger equation of the reflectionasymmetric Nilsson Hamiltonian with the imaginary time method in 3 D lattice space and the harmonic oscillator basis expansion method. In the 3 D lattice calculation, the l2 divergence problem is avoided by introducing a damping function, and the(l~2) Nterm in the non-spherical case is calculated by introducing an equivalent N-independent operator. The efficiency of these numerical techniques is demonstrated by solving the spherical Nilsson Hamiltonian in 3 D lattice space. The evolution of the single-particle levels in a reflection-asymmetric potential is obtained and discussed by the above two numerical methods, and their consistency is shown in the obtained single-particle energies with the differences smaller than 10~(-4)[hω_0].  相似文献

We present a three-dimensional geometry model for tortuosity of streamlines in porous media with randomly placed cylindrical particles. The proposed model is expressed as functions of porosity and geometrical parameters with no empirical constant. This might be helpful for understanding the physical mechanism for tortuosity of streamlines in three-dimensional porous media. The model predictions are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data available.  相似文献

Dispersion relations are derived for the capillary oscillations of a charged viscous spheroidal droplet by scalarization within perturbation theory using an expansion in two small parameters, viz., the magnitude of the perturbation of the spheroidal surface as a result of thermal fluctuations and the magnitude of the deviation of the equilibrium spheroidal droplet shape from a spherical shape. It is shown analytically that the motion spectrum of the liquid consists of two components that interact in the linear theory: toroidal vortex motion and poloidal potential motions. A numerical analysis reveals that the instability growth rates of the higher modes of a highly charged droplet increase with enhancement of the degree of spheroidal strain and decrease rapidly as the viscosity of the liquid increases.
