The unsteady flow and heat transfer of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the forward stagnation point region of a rotating sphere in the presence of a magnetic field are investigated in this study. The unsteadiness in the flow field is caused by the velocity at the edge of the boundary layer and the angular velocity of the rotating sphere, both varying continuously with time. The system of ordinary differential equations governing the flow is solved numerically. For some particular cases, an analytical solution is also obtained. It is found that the surface shear stresses in x- and y-directions and the surface heat transfer increase with the acceleration, the magnetic and the rotation parameters whether the magnetic field is fixed relative to the fluid or body, except that the surface shear stress in x-direction and the surface heat transfer decrease with increasing the magnetic parameter when the magnetic field is fixed relative to the body. For a certain value of the acceleration parameter, the surface shear stress in the x-direction vanishes while the surface shear stress in the y-direction and the surface heat transfer remain finite. Also, below a certain value of the acceleration parameter, reverse flow occurs in the x-component of the velocity profile. Received on 18 May 1998  相似文献

The unsteady mixed convection of the Al2O3-Cu/H2O hybrid nanofluid flow near the stagnation point past a vertical plate is analyzed. The bvp4c technique is used to solve the resulting ordinary differential equations. The combined effects of the velocity and thermal slip are addressed. The effects of different relevant physical parameters are studied numerically. The results show that the heat transfer rate is reduced when the volume fraction of the nanoparticles increases, while the unsteadiness...

The unsteady two-dimensional laminar mixed convection flow in the stagnation region of a vertical surface has been studied where the buoyancy forces are due to both the temperature and concentration gradients. The unsteadiness in the flow and temperature fields is caused by the time-dependent free stream velocity. Both arbitrary wall temperature and concentration, and arbitrary surface heat and mass flux variations have been considered. The Navier-Stokes equations, the energy equation and the concentration equation, which are coupled nonlinear partial differential equations with three independent variables, have been reduced to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The analysis has also been done using boundary layer approximations and the difference between the solutions has been discussed. The governing ordinary differential equations for buoyancy assisting and buoyancy opposing regions have been solved numerically using a shooting method. The skin friction, heat transfer and mass transfer coefficients increase with the buoyancy parameter. However, the skin friction coefficient increases with the parameter , which represents the unsteadiness in the free stream velocity, but the heat and mass transfer coefficients decrease. In the case of buoyancy opposed flow, the solution does not exist beyond a certain critical value of the buoyancy parameter. Also, for a certain range of the buoyancy parameter dual solutions exist.

A numerical analysis is provided to scrutinize time-dependent magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) free and forced convection of an electrically conducting non-Newtonian Casson nanofluid flow in the forward stagnation point region of an impulsively rotating sphere with variable wall temperature. A single-phase flow of nanofluid model is reflected with a number of experimental formulae for both effective viscosity and thermal conductivity of nanofluid. Exceedingly nonlinear governing partial differential equations(PDEs)subject to their compatible boundary conditions are mutated into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs). The derived nonlinear system is solved numerically with implementation of an implicit finite difference procedure merging with a technique of quasi-linearization. The controlled parameter impacts are clarified by a parametric study of the entire flow regime. It is depicted that from all the exhibited nanoparticles,Cu possesses the best convection. The surface heat transfer and surface shear stresses in the x-and z-directions are boosted with maximizing the values of nanoparticle solid volume fraction ? and rotation λ. Besides, as both the surface temperature exponent n and the Casson parameter γ upgrade, an enhancement of the Nusselt number is given.

The aim of this paper is to study the development of mixed convection flow near the stagnation point region over an exponentially stretching/shrinking sheet in nanofluids. The external flow, stretching velocity and wall temperature are assumed to vary as prescribed exponential functions. Using the local similarity method, it has been shown that dual solutions of velocity and temperature exist for certain values of suction/injection, mixed convection, nanoparticle volume fraction and stretching/shrinking parameters. The transformed non-linear ordinary differential equations along with the boundary conditions form a two point boundary value problem and are solved using Shooting method, by converting into an initial value problem. In this method, the system of equations is converted into a set of first order system which is solved by fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Three different types of nanoparticles, namely copper (Cu), aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and titanium oxide (TiO2) are considered by using water-based fluid with Prandtl number Pr = 6.2. It is also found that the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface are highest for Copper–water nanofluids as compared to Al2O3. The effect of the solid volume fraction parameter φ of the nanofluids on the heat transfer characteristics is also investigated. The results indicate that dual solutions exist only for shrinking sheet. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles are also presented here.

An analysis is performed for the unsteady mixed convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid about a stagnation point on a stretching sheet in the presence of a variable free stream. The equations of motion and energy are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the governing problem. The results have been discussed by plots. The present values of the function are shown very close to the previous limiting solutions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A mixed convection flow of a third-grade fluid near the orthogonal stagnation point on a vertical surface with slip and viscous dissipation effects is investigated. The governing partial differential equations for the third-grade fluid are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a similarity transformation. The effects of various parameters, including the Weissenberg number, third-grade parameter, local Reynolds number, Prandtl number, Eckert number, mixed convection parameter, velocity slip, and thermal slip on the velocity and temperature profiles, local skin friction coefficient, and local Nusselt number are discussed.

An analytical solution of the governing equations of the interacting shear flows for unsteady oblique stagnation point flow is obtained. It has the same form as that of the exact solution obtained from the complete NS equations and physical analysis and relevant discussions are then presented. The English text was polished by Yunming Chen.

The mixed convection two-dimensional boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid near the stagnation point on a stretching vertical sheet is investigated. The stretching velocity and the surface temperature are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The transformed ordinary differential equations are solved numerically for some values of the parameters involved using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics are analyzed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. Results are presented in terms of the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number with selections of velocity, microrotation and temperature profiles. Dual solutions are found to exist for the opposing flow.

Unsteady supersonic flow regimes in the neighborhood of a stagnation point are investigated on the basis of a system of viscous shock layer equations [10] containing all the terms of the Euler equations and the boundary layer equations. An analytic solution of the unsteady equations valid near the surface of the body is found in the case of strong injection. The unsteady equations of the viscous shock layer are solved numerically on the basis of a divergent implicit scheme of the second order of approximation across the shock layer, using Newtonian linearization and vector sweep methods with allowance for the boundary relations on the surface of the body and at the isolated bow shock. Certain calculation results illustrating the effect of injection, surface cooling, the swirl of the external flow and the angular velocity of the body on the structure of the steady and unsteady viscous shock layer are presented.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 114–122, September–October, 1987.

Summary An analysis is performed to study the unsteady compressible laminar boundary layer flow in the forward stagnation-point region of a sphere with a magnetic field applied normal to the surface. We have considered the case where there is an initial steady state that is perturbed by the step change in the total enthalpy at the wall. The nonlinear coupled parabolic partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer have been solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme. The numerical results are presented, which show the temporal development of the boundary layer. The magnetic field in the presence of variable electrical conductivity causes an overshoot in the velocity profile. Also, when the total enthalpy at the wall is suddenly increased, there is a change in the direction of transfer of heat in a small interval of time.  The effect of a small but fluctuating gravitational field, characteristic of g-jitter, on the flow near the forward stagnation point of a two-dimensional symmetric body resulting from a step change in its surface temperature has been considered in this paper. The transformed equations are solved numerically by a very efficient finite-difference method known as the Keller-box technique to investigate the effects on the shear stress and rate of heat transfer of variations in the Prandtl number, Pr, the forcing amplitude, a, and the forcing frequency, ω. It has been found that these parameters affect considerably the shear stress and the rate of heat transfer. Received on 28 February 2000  相似文献

Similarity solutions are obtained for one-dimensional unsteady isothermal and adiabatic flows behind a strong exponential cylindrical shock wave propagating in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas, which has variable azimuthal and axial fluid velocities. The shock wave is driven by a piston moving with time according to an exponential law. Similarity solutions exist only when the surrounding medium is of constant density. The azimuthal and axial components of the fluid velocity in the ambient medium are assumed to obey exponential laws. The dusty gas is assumed to be a mixture of small solid particles and a perfect gas. To obtain some essential features of the shock propagation, small solid particles are considered as a pseudo-fluid; it is assumed that the equilibrium flow conditions are maintained in the flow field, and that the viscous stresses and heat conduction in the mixture are negligible. Solutions are obtained for the cases when the flow between the shock and the piston is either isothermal or adiabatic, by taking into account the components of the vorticity vector. It is found that the assumption of zero temperature gradient results in a profound change in the density distribution as compared to that for the adiabatic case. The effects of the variation of the mass concentration of solid particles in the mixture \(K_p\) , and the ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas \(G_a\) are investigated. A comparison between the solutions for the isothermal and adiabatic cases is also made.

An analysis is developed to study the unsteady mixed convection flow over a vertical cone rotating in an ambient fluid with a time-dependent angular velocity in the presence of a magnetic field. The coupled nonlinear partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme. The local skin friction coefficients in the tangential and azimuthal directions and the local Nusselt number increase with the time when the angular velocity of the cone increases, but the reverse trend is observed for decreasing angular velocity. However, these are not mirror reflection of each other. The magnetic field reduces the skin friction coefficient in the tangential direction and also the Nusselt number, but it increases the skin friction coefficient in the azimuthal direction. The skin friction coefficients and the Nusselt number increase with the buoyancy force.

Bodies of power-law shape with a generator of the form y=x, 0.5<<1, have at the apex a vertical tangent (like blunt bodies) and infinite curvature (like sharp ones). Supersonic flow past axisymmetric bodies with power-law longitudinal profile has been studied by Radvogin in [1, 2], where on the basis of the analysis of a large quantity of numerical calculations certain empirical laws of similarity were formulated. It follows from these relations that the position and form of the subsonic sector of the shock wave are not determined by the singularity in the body's profile, but by the position on the body of the sonic point and its bluntness in relation to the cone of the critical opening angle. In O. V. Titov's work the results obtained in [1, 2] are confirmed analytically, but here it is assumed that the curvature of the shock wave and the second derivative of the curvature with respect to the longitudinal curvilinear coordinate are finite at the apex. This assumption imposes a limitation on the contour of the body; if it is satisfied, the curvature of the profile past which the flow takes place is also finite. Therefore it is natural to consider the case when this assumption is not made. In this paper we study the flow past bodies of power-law shape with shock waves of infinite curvature at the apex and finite curvature but an infinite second derivative of the curvature with respect to the longitudinal coordinate.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 138–142, May–June, 1985.

The unsteady mixed convection boundary-layer flow near the two-dimensional stagnation point on a vertical permeable surface embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium with suction and a temperature slip effect is studied numerically. Similarity equations are obtained through the application of a similarity transformation technique. The shooting method is used to solve these similarity equations for different values of the mixed convection, wall mass suction, the unsteadiness and the slip parameters. Results show that multiple solutions exist for certain ranges of these parameters. Some limiting forms are then discussed, namely strong suction, the free convection limit, the situation when there is a large temperature slip and when the time dependence dominates.

The objective of the present study is to develop a novel similarity model for analysis of mixed convection heat and mas transfer in combined stagnation and rotation-induced flows over a rotating disk. Thermal and concentration (solutal) buoyancy effects stemmed from temperature and concentration gradients in rotational as well as gravitational forces fields are all taken into account. The influences of the forced flow, disk rotation, thermal buoyancy, buoyancy ratio and the fluid properties, i.e. Prandtl and Schmidt numbers, on the flow, temperature and concentration fields and the associated friction factors, heat and mass transfer rates are investigated. The present results reveal the effects of various buoyancy modes with combined forces on the transport phenomena in rotating-disk flows, and the analysis is also useful in understanding the mechanisms of mixed convection in the class of rotating fluids. We consider the flow past a sphere held at a fixed position in a uniform incoming flow but free to rotate around a transverse axis. A steady pitchfork bifurcation is reported to take place at a threshold \(Re^\mathrm{OS}=206\) leading to a state with zero torque but nonzero lift. Numerical simulations allow to characterize this state up to \(Re\approx 270\) and confirm that it substantially differs from the steady-state solution which exists in the wake of a fixed, non-rotating sphere beyond the threshold \(Re^\mathrm{SS}=212\). A weakly nonlinear analysis is carried out and is shown to successfully reproduce the results and to give substantial improvement over a previous analysis (Fabre et al. in J Fluid Mech 707:24–36, 2012). The connection between the present problem and that of a sphere in free fall following an oblique, steady (OS) path is also discussed.
