Free vibration and static analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates are studied using higher order shear deformation theory with a special modification in the transverse displacement in conjunction with finite element models. The mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction by a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The fundamental equations for FGM plates are derived using variational approach by considering traction free boundary conditions on the top and bottom faces of the plate. Results have been obtained by employing a continuous isoparametric Lagrangian finite element with 13 degrees of freedom per node. Convergence tests and comparison studies have been carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the present model. Numerical results for different thickness ratios, aspect ratios and volume fraction index with different boundary conditions have been presented. It is observed that the natural frequency parameter increases for plate aspect ratio, lower volume fraction index n and smaller thickness ratios. It is also observed that the effect of thickness ratio on the frequency of a plate is independent of the volume fraction index. For a given thickness ratio non-dimensional deflection increases as the volume fraction index increases. It is concluded that the gradient in the material properties plays a vital role in determining the response of the FGM plates.  相似文献

In this paper, the second order statistics of post buckling response of functionally graded materials plate (FGM) subjected to mechanical and thermal loading with nonuniform temperature changes subjected to temperature independent (TID) and dependent (TD) material properties is examined. Material properties such as material properties of each constituent’s materials, volume fraction index are taken as independent random input variables. The basic formulation is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear kinematic using modified C0 continuity. A direct iterative based C0 nonlinear finite element method (FEM) combined with mean centered first order perturbation technique (FOPT) proposed by last two authors for the composite plate is extended for Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) plate with reasonable accuracy to compute the second order statistics (mean and coefficient of variation) of the post buckling load response of the FGM plates. The effect of random material properties with amplitude ratios, volume fraction index, plate thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions and types of loadings subjected to TID and TD material properties are presented through numerical examples. The performance of outlined present approach is validated with the results available in literatures and independent Monte Carlo simulation (MCS).  相似文献

Based on Giannakopoulos’s 2-D functionally graded material (FGM) contact model, a modified contact model is put forward to deal with impact problem of the functionally graded shallow spherical shell in thermal environment. The FGM shallow spherical shell, having temperature dependent material property, is subjected to a temperature field uniform over the shell surface but varying along the thickness direction due to steady-state heat conduction. The displacement field and geometrical relations of the FGM shallow spherical shell are established on the basis of TimoshenkoMidlin theory. And the nonlinear motion equations of the FGM shallow spherical shell under low velocity impact in thermal environment are founded in terms of displacement variable functions. Using the orthogonal collocation point method and the Newmark method to discretize the unknown variable functions in space and in time domain, the whole problem is solved by the iterative method. In numerical examples, the contact force and nonlinear dynamic response of the FGM shallow spherical shell under low velocity impact are investigated and effects of temperature field, material and geometrical parameters on contact force and dynamic response of the FGM shallow spherical shell are discussed.  相似文献

Presented herein is the prediction of buckling behavior of size-dependent microbeams made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) including thermal environment effect. To this purpose, strain gradient elasticity theory is incorporated into the classical third-order shear deformation beam theory to develop a non-classical beam model which contains three additional internal material length scale parameters to consider the effects of size dependencies. The higher-order governing differential equations are derived on the basis of Hamilton’s principle. Afterward, the size-dependent differential equations and related boundary conditions are discretized along with commonly used end supports by employing generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method. A parametric study is carried out to demonstrate the influences of the dimensionless length scale parameter, material property gradient index, temperature change, length-to-thickness aspect ratio and end supports on the buckling characteristics of FGM microbeams. It is revealed that temperature change plays more important role in the buckling behavior of FGM microbeams with higher values of dimensionless length scale parameter.  相似文献

In this paper, the vibration and buckling analyses of the FGM (functionally graded material) plates with multiple internal cracks and cutouts under thermal and mechanical loads are numerically investigated using the combined XIGA-PHT (extended isogeometric analysis based on PHT-splines) and FCM (finite cell method). Material properties are graded only in the thickness direction. The effective material properties are estimated by using either the rule of mixture or the Mori-Tanaka homogenization technique. The plate displacement field is based on the HSDT (higher-order shear deformation plate theory) without any requirement of the SCF (shear correction factor). The HSDT model can exactly represent the shear stress distribution and improve the accuracy of solutions. The PHT-splines can naturally fulfill the C1-continuous requirement of the HSDT model. The representation of internal defects is mesh-independent. The discontinuous and singular phenomena induced by the cracks are captured using the enrichment pattern in the XIGA, and the influence of cutouts is implemented by the FCM. The geometries of cutouts are captured by means of adaptive quadrature procedure based on a simple unfitted structural mesh, which avoids the need for multiple patches to describe the complex geometry and eliminates the enforcement of C1-continuity patch-coupling across the patch boundaries. The initial mesh density around the cracks and cutouts can be controlled flexibly utilizing the local refinement property of the PHT-splines. After validating the results of the developed approach with those available in the literature, the effects of material gradient index, side to thickness ratio, boundary conditions, cutout size and crack length on the normalized frequency and the critical buckling parameter are investigated. Numerical results illustrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the present approach.  相似文献

In this paper, effect of random variation in system properties on bending response of geometrically linear laminated composite plates subjected to transverse uniform lateral pressure and thermal loading is examined. System parameters such as the lamina material properties, expansion of thermal coefficients, lamina plate thickness and lateral load are modeled as basic random variables. The basic formulation is based on higher order shear deformation theory to model the system behavior of the composite plate. A C0 finite element method in conjunction with the first order perturbation technique procedure developed earlier by authors for the plate subjected to lateral loading is employed to obtain the second order response statistics (mean and variance) of the transverse deflection of the plate. Typical numerical results for the second order statistics of the transverse central deflection of geometrically linear composite plates with temperature independent and dependent material properties subjected to uniform temperature and combination of uniform and linearly varying temperature distribution are obtained for various combinations of geometric parameters, uniform lateral pressures, staking sequences and boundary conditions. The performance of the stochastic laminated composite model is demonstrated through comparison of mean transverse central deflection with those results available in literature and standard deviation of the deflection with an independent Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

Based on the von Kármán geometric nonlinear plate theory, the displacement⁃type geometric nonlinear governing equations for FGM sandwich circular plates under transverse nonlinear temperature field actions were derived. With the immovable clamped boundary condition, the analytical formula for dimensional critical buckling temperature differences of the system was obtained from the solution of the linear eigenvalue problem. Moreover, the 2⁃point boundary value problem of ordinary differential equations was solved with the shooting method. The effects of geometric parameters, constituent material properties, gradient indexes, temperature field parameters and layer⁃thickness ratios on the critical buckling temperature differences, the thermal postbuckling equilibrium paths, and the buckling equilibrium configurations of FGM sandwich circular plates, were investigated. The results show that, with the increases of the thickness⁃radius ratio, the relative thickness of the FGM layer and the gradient index, the FGM sandwich circular plate's critical buckling temperature difference will increase monotonically. Given a fixed radius and a fixed total thickness, the postbuckling deformation of the FGM sandwich circular plate will decrease significantly with the relative thickness of the FGM layer. © 2023 Editorial Office of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. The strain gradient theory of Zhou et al. is re-expressed in a more direct form and the differences with other strain gradient theories are investigated by an application on static and dynamic analyses of FGM circular micro-plate. To facilitate the modeling, the strain gradient theory of Zhou et al. is re-expressed in cylindrical coordinates, and then the governing equation, boundary conditions and initial condition for circular plate are derived with the help of the Hamilton's principle. The present model can degenerate into other models based on the strain gradient theory of Lam et al., the couple stress theory, the modified couple stress theory or even the classical theory, respectively. The static bending and free vibration problems of a simply supported circular plate are solved. The results indicate that the consideration of strain gradients results in an increase in plate stiffness, and leads to a reduction of deflection and an increase in natural frequency. Compared with the reduced models, the present model can predict a stronger size effect since the contribution from all strain gradient components is considered, and the differences of results from all these models are diminishing when the plate thickness is far greater than the material length-sale parameter.  相似文献

Displacement field based on higher order shear deformation theory is implemented to study the static behavior of functionally graded metal–ceramic (FGM) beams under ambient temperature. FGM beams with variation of volume fraction of metal or ceramic based on power law exponent are considered. Using the principle of stationary potential energy, the finite element form of static equilibrium equation for FGM beam is presented. Two stiffness matrices are thus derived so that one among them will reflect the influence of rotation of the normal and the other shear rotation. Numerical results on the transverse deflection, axial and shear stresses in a moderately thick FGM beam under uniform distributed load for clamped–clamped and simply supported boundary conditions are discussed in depth. The effect of power law exponent for various combination of metal–ceramic FGM beam on the deflection and stresses are also commented. The studies reveal that, depending on whether the loading is on the ceramic rich face or metal rich face of the beam, the static deflection and the static stresses in the beam do not remain the same.  相似文献

In this study, the static response is presented for a simply supported functionally graded hybrid beam subjected to a transverse uniform load. Material properties of the beam are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. By varying the fiber volume fraction within a symmetric laminated beam and combining two fiber types to create a hybrid functionally graded material (FGM) can offer desirable increases in axial and bending stiffness. The equations governing the hybrid FGM beams are determined using the principle of virtual work (PVW) arising from the higher order shear deformation theories. Numerical results on the transverse deflection, axial and shear stresses in a moderately thick hybrid FGM beam under uniform distributed load are discussed in depth. The effect of power-law exponent on the deflection and stresses are also commented.  相似文献

This paper studied compressive postbuckling under thermal environments and thermal postbuckling due to a uniform temperature rise for a shear deformable laminated plate with piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) actuators based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermo-piezoelectric effects. The material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and the initial geometric imperfection of the plate is considered. The compressive and thermal postbuckling behaviors of perfect, imperfect, symmetric cross-ply and antisymmetric angle-ply laminated plates with fully covered or embedded PFRC actuators are conducted under different sets of thermal and electric loading conditions. The results reveal that, the applied voltage usually has a small effect on the postbuckling load–deflection relationship of the plate with PFRC actuators in the compressive buckling case, whereas the effect of applied voltage is more pronounced for the plate with PFRC actuators, compared to the results of the same plate with monolithic piezoelectric actuators.  相似文献

England (2006) [13] proposed a novel method to study the bending of isotropic functionally graded plates subject to transverse biharmonic loads. His method is extended here to functionally graded plates with materials characterizing transverse isotropy. Using the complex variable method, the governing equations of three plate displacements appearing in the expansions of displacement field are formulated based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity for a transverse load satisfying the biharmonic equation. The solution may be expressed in terms of four analytic functions of the complex variable, in which the unknown constants can be determined from the boundary conditions similar to that in the classical plate theory. The elasticity solutions of an FGM rectangular plate with opposite edges simply supported under 12 types of biharmonic polynomial loads are derived as appropriate sums of the general and particular solutions of the governing equations. A comparison of the present results for a uniform load with existing solutions is made and good agreement is observed. The influence of boundary conditions, material inhomogeneity, and thickness to length ratio on the plate deflection and stresses for the load x2yq are studied numerically.  相似文献

An analytical approach to investigating the stability of simply supported rectangular functionally graded plates under in-plane compressive, thermal, and combined loads is presented. The material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of constituents. The equilibrium and compatibility equations for the plates are derived by using the first-order shear deformation theory of plates, taking into account both the geometrical nonlinearity in the von Karman sense and initial geometrical imperfections. The resulting equations are solved by employing the Galerkin procedure to obtain expressions from which the postbuckling load–deflection curves can be traced by an iterative procedure. A stability analysis performed for geometrically midplane-symmetric FGM plates shows the effects of material and geometric parameters, in-plane boundary conditions, temperature-dependent material properties, and imperfections on the postbuckling behavior of the plates.  相似文献

Nonlinear bending analysis is first presented for functionally graded elliptical plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations, and investigations on FGM elliptical plates with immovable simply supported edge are also new in literature. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction. The governing equations of a functionally graded plate are based on Reddy’s high-order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermal effects. Ritz method is employed to determine the central deflection-load and bending moment-load curves, the validity can be confirmed by comparison with related researchers’ results, and it is worth noting that the forms of approximate solutions are well-chosen in consideration of both simplicity and accuracy. Influences played by different supported boundaries, thermal environmental conditions, foundation stiffness, ratio of major to minor axis and volume fraction index are discussed in detail.  相似文献

A ceramic/metal functionally graded circular plate under one-term and two-term transversal excitations in the thermal environment is investigated, respectively. The effects of geometric nonlinearity and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The material properties of the functionally graded plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness, according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Using the principle of virtual work, the nonlinear partial differential equations of FGM plate subjected to transverse harmonic forcing excitation and thermal load are derived. For the circular plate with clamped immovable edge, the Duffing nonlinear forced vibration equation is deduced using Galerkin method. The criteria for existence of chaos under one-term and two-term periodic perturbations are given with Melnikov method. Numerical simulations are carried out to plot the bifurcation curves for the homolinic orbits. Effects of the material volume fraction index and temperature on the criterions are discussed and the existences of chaos are validated by plotting phase portraits, Poincare maps. Also, the bifurcation diagrams and corresponding maximum Lyapunov exponents are plotted. It was found that periodic, multiple periodic solutions and chaotic motions exist for the FGM plate under certain conditions.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation on partially fluid-filled cylindrical shells made of functionally graded materials (FGM) surrounded by elastic foundations (Pasternak elastic foundation) in thermal environment. Material properties are assumed to be temperature dependent and radially variable in terms of volume fraction of ceramic and metal according to a simple power law distribution. The shells are reinforced by stiffeners attached to their inside and outside in which the material properties of shell and the stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. The formulations are derived based on smeared stiffeners technique and classical shell theory using higher-order shear deformation theory which accounts for shear flexibility through shell's thickness. Displacements and rotations of the shell middle surface are approximated by combining polynomial functions in the meridian direction and truncated Fourier series with an appropriate number of harmonic terms in the circumferential direction. The governing equations of liquid motion are derived using a finite strip element formulation of incompressible inviscid potential flow. The dynamic pressure of the fluid is expanded as a power series in the radial direction. Moreover, the quiescent liquid free surface is modeled by concentric annular rings. A detailed numerical study is carried out to investigate the effects of power-law index of functional graded material, fluid depth, stiffeners, boundary conditions, temperature and geometry of the shell on the natural frequency of eccentrically stiffened functionally graded shell surrounded by Pasternak foundations.  相似文献

This study investigates the nonlinear free vibration of functionally graded material (FGM) beams by different shear deformation theories. The volume fractions of the material constituents and effective material properties are assumed to be changing in the thickness direction according to the power-law form. The von Kármán geometric nonlinearity has been considered in the formulation. The Ritz method and Lagrange equation are adopted to yield the discrete formulations. A direct numerical integration method for the motion equation in matrix form is developed to solve the nonlinear frequencies of FGM beams. Comparing with the global concordant deformation assumption (GCDA), a new deformation assumption named as local concordant deformation assumption (LCDA) is proposed in this study. The LCDA fits with the real deformation of the vibrating beam better, thus more accurate results of the nonlinear frequency can be expected. In numerical results, the comparison study of the GCDA and LCDA is carried out. In addition, the effects of power-law index, slenderness ratio and maximum deflection for different shear deformation theories and boundary conditions on the nonlinear frequency of the beam are discussed.  相似文献

Present research deals with the thermal buckling and post-buckling analysis of the geometrically imperfect functionally graded tubes on nonlinear elastic foundation. Imperfect FGM tube with immovable clamped–clamped end conditions is subjected to thermal environments. Tube under different types of thermal loads, such as heat conduction, linear temperature change, and uniform temperature rise is analyzed. Material properties of the FGM tube are assumed to be temperature dependent and are distributed through the radial direction. Displacement field satisfies the tangential traction free boundary conditions on the inner and outer surfaces of the FGM tube. The nonlinear governing equations of the FGM tube are obtained by means of the virtual displacement principle. The equilibrium equations are based on the nonlinear von Kármán assumption and higher order shear deformation circular tube theory. These coupled differential equations are solved using the two-step perturbation method. Approximate solutions are provided to estimate the thermal post-buckling response of the perfect/imperfect FGM tube as explicit functions of the various thermal loads. Numerical results are provided to explore the effects of different geometrical parameters of the FGM tube subjected to different types of thermal loads. The effects of power law index, springs stiffness of elastic foundation, and geometrical imperfection parameter of tube are also included.  相似文献
