This paper investigates the pull-in instability and free vibration of functionally graded poly-SiGe micro-beams under combined electrostatic force, intermolecular force and axial residual stress, with an emphasis on the effects of ground electrode shape, position-dependent material composition, and geometrically nonlinear deformation of the micro-beam. The differential quadrature (DQ) method is employed to solve the nonlinear differential governing equations to obtain the pull-in voltage and vibration frequencies of the clamped poly-SiGe micro-beams. The present analysis is validated through direct comparisons with published experimental results and excellent agreement has been achieved. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effects of material composition, ground electrode shape, axial residual stress and geometrical nonlinearity on the pull-in voltage and frequency characteristics.  相似文献

In this study, general non-uniform material-varying micro-beam models under a moving harmonic load/mass are investigated. Material variation is modeled by combining axial and thickness material grading models using exponential, linear, parabolic and sigmoidal functions. Beam is assumed to be resting on an elastic foundation and in this linear foundation model, foundation modulus is assumed to vary axially with respect to space variable in a non-linear manner ignoring the effect of mass density of foundation on the behavior of micro-beam. Cross-section variation through the length is formulated for both thickness and width variation. Governing equations for such comprehensive beam model is achieved using Hamilton's principle in conjunction with modified couple stress theory to add the scale-effects and solved by discussing explicit and implicit finite element methods with using various-steps and Wilson-theta method. Current methodology is verified using previous studies on simplified problems. A comprehensive parametric study is presented in order to indicate the influence of each design, material and fundamental terms on the forced vibration behavior of such structures under a moving harmonic/constant load/mass. It is shown that by appropriately choosing the material variation in bidirectional functionally graded beams dynamic vibration behavior of such structures could change significantly. Moreover, it is shown that varying cross-section, elastic foundation and type of harmonic moving mass can change the dynamic reaction of the general micro-beam model. From the influence of modified couple stress term on mechanical behavior of such structures it is concluded that this term has crucial effect in varying the dynamic deflections and it is important to acknowledge it in analyzing such structures.  相似文献

This paper addresses a 3D elasticity analytical solution for static deformation of a simply-supported rectangular micro/nanoplate made of both homogeneous and functionally graded (FG) material within the framework of modified couple stress theory. The plate is assumed to be resting on a Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundation, and its modulus of elasticity is assumed to vary exponentially along thickness. By expanding displacement components in double Fourier series along in-plane coordinates and imposing relevant boundary conditions, the boundary value problem (BVP) of plate system, including its governing partial differential equations (PDEs) of equilibrium are reduced to BVP consisting only ordinary ones (ODEs). Parametric studies are conducted among displacement and stress components developed in the plate and FG material gradient index, length scale parameter, and foundation stiffnesses. From the numerical results, it is concluded that the out-of-plane shear stresses are not necessarily zero at the top and bottom surfaces of plate. The results of this investigation may serve as a benchmark to verify further bending analyses of either homogeneous or FG micro/nanoplates on elastic foundation.  相似文献

In this paper, to consider all surface effects including surface elasticity, surface stress, and surface density, on the nonlinear free vibration analysis of simply-supported functionally graded Euler–Bernoulli nanobeams using nonlocal elasticity theory, the balance conditions between FG nanobeam bulk and its surfaces are considered to be satisfied assuming a cubic variation for the component of the normal stress through the FG nanobeam thickness. The nonlinear governing equation includes the von Kármán geometric nonlinearity and the material properties change continuously through the thickness of the FG nanobeam according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The multiple scale method is employed as an analytical solution for the nonlinear governing equation to obtain the nonlinear natural frequencies of FG nanobeams. The effect of the gradient index, the nanobeam length, thickness to length ratio, mode number, amplitude of deflection to radius of gyration ratio and nonlocal parameter on the frequency ratios of FG nanobeams is investigated.  相似文献

This work addresses a static analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates using higher order shear deformation theory. In the theory the transverse shear stresses are represented as quadratic through the thickness and hence it requires no shear correction factor. The material property gradient is assumed to vary in the thickness direction. Mori and Tanaka theory (1973) [1] is used to represent the material property of FGM plate at any point. The thermal gradient across the plate thickness is represented accurately by utilizing the thermal properties of the constituent materials. Results have been obtained by employing a C° continuous isoparametric Lagrangian finite element with seven degrees of freedom for each node. The convergence and comparison studies are presented and effects of the different material composition and the plate geometry (side-thickness, side–side) on deflection and temperature are investigated. Effect of skew angle on deflection and axial stress of the plate is also studied. Effects of material constant n on deflection and the temperature distribution are also discussed in detail.  相似文献

This paper aims to present a unified vibration analysis approach for the four-parameter functionally graded moderately thick doubly-curved shells and panels of revolution with general boundary conditions. The first-order shear deformation theory is used in this formulation. The functionally graded panels structures consists of ceramic and metal which are set to vary continuously in the thickness direction according to the general four-parameter power-law distribution, and six types of power-law distributions are considered for the ceramic volume fraction. The admissible function of the FG panels and shells of revolution is obtained by the improved Fourier series with the help of the governing equations and the boundary conditions. The solution is obtained by using the variational operation in terms of the unknown expanded coefficients. By a great many numerical examples, the rapid convergence and good reliability and accuracy of the proposed approach are validated. A variety of new results for vibration problems of the FG doubly-curved shells and panels with different elastic restraints, geometric and material parameters are presented. The effects of the elastic restraint parameters, power-law exponent, circumference angle and power-law distributions on the free vibration characteristic of the panels are also presented, which can be served as benchmark data in the research and the actual production process.  相似文献

The theoretical formulation for bending analysis of functionally graded (FG) rotating disks based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is presented. The material properties of the disk are assumed to be graded in the radial direction by a power law distribution of volume fractions of the constituents. New set of equilibrium equations with small deflections are developed. A semi-analytical solution for displacement field is given under three types of boundary conditions applied for solid and annular disks. Results are verified with known results reported in the literature. Also, mechanical responses are compared between homogeneous and FG disks. It is found that the stress couple resultants in a FG solid disk are less than the stress resultants in full-ceramic and full-metal disk. It is observed that the vertical displacements for FG mounted disk with free condition at the outer surface do not occur between the vertical displacements of the full-metal and full-ceramic disk. More specifically, the vertical displacement in a FG mounted disk with free condition at the outer surface can even be greater than vertical displacement in a full-metal disk. It can be concluded from this work that the gradation of the constitutive components is a significant parameter that can influence the mechanical responses of FG disks.  相似文献

Size dependent behavior of materials arises for a structure when the characteristic size such as thickness or diameter is close to its internal length-scale parameter. In these cases, ignoring this behavior in modeling may leads to incorrect results. In this paper, strong effects of size dependence on static and dynamic behavior of electro-statically actuated nano-beams have been studied. The fixed points of the Aluminum nano-beams have been determined and shown that for a given DC voltage, there is a considerable difference between the calculated fixed points using classic beam theory and modified couple stress theory. In addition, it has been also shown that ignoring couple stress theory results in an order of magnitude error in calculated static and dynamic pull-in voltages. Some previous studies have applied the classic beam theory in their models and introduced a considerable hypothetical value of residual stress to justify the discrepancies between experimental and theoretical results.  相似文献

Buckling analysis of functionally graded micro beams based on modified couple stress theory is presented. Three different beam theories, i.e. classical, first and third order shear deformation beam theories, are considered to study the effect of shear deformations. To present a profound insight on the effect of boundary conditions, beams with hinged-hinged, clamped–clamped and clamped–hinged ends are studied. Governing equations and boundary conditions are derived using principle of minimum potential energy. Afterwards, generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method is applied to solve the obtained differential equations. Some numerical results are presented to study the effects of material length scale parameter, beam thickness, Poisson ratio and power index of material distribution on size dependent buckling load. It is observed that buckling loads predicted by modified couple stress theory deviates significantly from classical ones, especially for thin beams. It is shown that size dependency of FG micro beams differs from isotropic homogeneous micro beams as it is a function of power index of material distribution. In addition, the general trend of buckling load with respect to Poisson ratio predicted by the present model differs from classical one.  相似文献

In this paper, a nonlinear static finite element analysis of simply supported smart functionally graded (FG) plates in the presence/absence of the thermal environment has been presented. The substrate FG plate is integrated with the patches of piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) material which act as the distributed actuators of the plate. The material properties of the FG substrate plate are assumed to be temperature dependent and graded along the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The derivation of this nonlinear thermo-electro-mechanical coupled finite element model is based on the first order shear deformation theory and the Von Karman type geometric nonlinearity. The numerical solutions of the nonlinear equations of the finite element model are obtained by employing the direct iteration method. The numerical illustrations suggest the potential use of the distributed actuator made of the PFRC material for active control of nonlinear deformations of smart FG structures. The effects of volume fraction index of the FG material of the substrate plates and the locations of the PFRC patches on the control authority of the patches are investigated. Emphasis has also been placed on investigating the effect of variation of piezoelectric fiber orientation angle in the PFRC patches on their actuation capability for counteracting the large deflections of FG plates.  相似文献

The main objective of this research work is to present analytical solutions for free vibration analysis of moderately thick rectangular plates, which are composed of functionally graded materials (FGMs) and supported by either Winkler or Pasternak elastic foundations. The proposed rectangular plates have two opposite edges simply-supported, while all possible combinations of free, simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions are applied to the other two edges. In order to capture fundamental frequencies of the functionally graded (FG) rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation, the analysis procedure is based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) to derive and solve exactly the equations of motion. The mechanical properties of the FG plates are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate and obey a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents, whereas Poisson’s ratio is set to be constant. First, a new formula for the shear correction factors, used in the Mindlin plate theory, is obtained for FG plates. Then the excellent accuracy of the present analytical solutions is confirmed by making some comparisons of the results with those available in literature. The effect of foundation stiffness parameters on the free vibration of the FG plates, constrained by different combinations of classical boundary conditions, is also presented for various values of aspect ratios, gradient indices, and thickness to length ratios.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation on partially fluid-filled cylindrical shells made of functionally graded materials (FGM) surrounded by elastic foundations (Pasternak elastic foundation) in thermal environment. Material properties are assumed to be temperature dependent and radially variable in terms of volume fraction of ceramic and metal according to a simple power law distribution. The shells are reinforced by stiffeners attached to their inside and outside in which the material properties of shell and the stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. The formulations are derived based on smeared stiffeners technique and classical shell theory using higher-order shear deformation theory which accounts for shear flexibility through shell's thickness. Displacements and rotations of the shell middle surface are approximated by combining polynomial functions in the meridian direction and truncated Fourier series with an appropriate number of harmonic terms in the circumferential direction. The governing equations of liquid motion are derived using a finite strip element formulation of incompressible inviscid potential flow. The dynamic pressure of the fluid is expanded as a power series in the radial direction. Moreover, the quiescent liquid free surface is modeled by concentric annular rings. A detailed numerical study is carried out to investigate the effects of power-law index of functional graded material, fluid depth, stiffeners, boundary conditions, temperature and geometry of the shell on the natural frequency of eccentrically stiffened functionally graded shell surrounded by Pasternak foundations.  相似文献

A ceramic/metal functionally graded circular plate under one-term and two-term transversal excitations in the thermal environment is investigated, respectively. The effects of geometric nonlinearity and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The material properties of the functionally graded plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness, according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Using the principle of virtual work, the nonlinear partial differential equations of FGM plate subjected to transverse harmonic forcing excitation and thermal load are derived. For the circular plate with clamped immovable edge, the Duffing nonlinear forced vibration equation is deduced using Galerkin method. The criteria for existence of chaos under one-term and two-term periodic perturbations are given with Melnikov method. Numerical simulations are carried out to plot the bifurcation curves for the homolinic orbits. Effects of the material volume fraction index and temperature on the criterions are discussed and the existences of chaos are validated by plotting phase portraits, Poincare maps. Also, the bifurcation diagrams and corresponding maximum Lyapunov exponents are plotted. It was found that periodic, multiple periodic solutions and chaotic motions exist for the FGM plate under certain conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, the wave propagation and transient response of an infinite functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are studied. The thermal effects and temperature-dependent material properties are taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the plate surface and varies in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Considering the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia, the governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded plate are derived from Hamilton’s principle. The analytic dispersion relation of the functionally graded plate is obtained by means of integral transforms and a complete discussion of dispersion for the functionally graded plate is given. Using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions of the functionally graded plate under a point impact load in thermal environments are obtained. The influences of the volume fraction distributions and temperature field on the wave propagation and transient response of functionally graded plates are discussed in detail. The results carried out can be used in the ultrasonic inspection techniques and provide a theoretical basis for engineering applications.  相似文献

This paper aims to investigate the coupling influences of thermal loading and surface effects on pull-in instability of electrically actuated circular nanoplate based on Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory, where the electrostatic force and thermally corrected Casimir force are considered. By utilizing the Kirchhoff plate theory, the nonlinear equilibrium equation of axisymmetric circular nanoplate with variable coefficients and clamped boundary conditions is derived and analytically solved. The results describe the influences of surface effect and thermal loading on pull-in displacements and pull-in voltages of nanoplate under thermal corrected Casimir force. It is seen that the surface effect becomes significant at the pull-in state with the decrease of nanoplate thicknesses, and the residual surface tension exerts a greater influence on the pull-in behavior compared to the surface elastic modulus. In addition, it is found that temperature change plays a great role in the pull-in phenomenon; when the temperature change grows, the circular nanoplate without applied voltage is also led to collapse.  相似文献

Parametric resonance of a functionally graded (FG) cylindrical thin shell with periodic rotating angular speeds subjected to thermal environment is studied in this paper. Taking account of the temperature-dependent properties of the shell, the dynamic equations of a rotating FG cylindrical thin shell based upon Love's thin shell theory are built by Hamilton's principle. The multiple scales method is utilized to obtain the instability boundaries of the problem with the consideration of time-varying rotating angular speeds. It is shown that only the combination instability regions exist for a rotating FG cylindrical thin shell. Moreover, some numerical examples are employed to systematically analyze the effects of constant rotating angular speed, material heterogeneity and thermal effects on vibration characteristics, instability regions and critical rotating speeds of the shell. Of great interest in the process is the combined effect of constant rotating angular speed and temperature on instability regions.  相似文献

In this paper, the free vibration of a two-dimensional functionally graded circular cylindrical shell is analyzed. The equations of motion are based on the Love’s first approximation classical shell theory. The spatial derivatives of the equations of motion and boundary conditions are discretized by the methods of generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) and generalized integral quadrature (GIQ). Two kinds of micromechanics models, viz. Voigt and Mori–Tanaka models are used to describe the material properties. To validate the results, comparisons are made with the solutions for FG cylindrical shells available in the literature. The results of this study show that the natural frequency of the material can be modified in order to meet the expected results through manipulation of the constituent volume fractions. A comprehensive comparison is then drawn between ordinary and 2-D FG cylindrical shells.  相似文献
