We present the first direct measurements of the pion valence-quark momentum distribution which is related to the square of the pion light-cone wave function. The measurements were carried out using data on diffractive dissociation of 500 GeV/c pi(-) into dijets from a platinum target at Fermilab experiment E791. The results show that the /q&q> light-cone asymptotic wave function describes the data well for Q2 approximately 10 (GeV/c)(2) or more. We also measured the transverse momentum distribution of the diffractive dijets. 相似文献

The mean lifetime of delocalized parapositronium in alpha-SiO2 has been determined directly for the first time using a newly developed positron lifetime spectrometer based on BaF2 scintillators and a fast digital oscilloscope. The lifetime is found to be 156+/-4 ps, which is much longer than its intrinsic lifetime of 125 ps. This indicates clearly that the primary many-body effect on positronium in alpha-SiO2 is the screening of the Coulomb interaction between the constituent particles by electrons of the medium and that the average distance between the electron and positron in positronium becomes larger than its vacuum value. 相似文献

The slope of the form factor forπ 0→e + e -γ and the real part of the amplitude forπ 0→e + e - are calculated by means of the quark triangle mechanism. The correct sign for the form factor slope is reproduced. Theπ 0→e + e - rate obtained is slightly larger than the unitarity limit and smaller than the present experimental rate. 相似文献

Neutral molecules, isolated in the gas phase, can be prepared in a long-lived excited state and stored in a trap. The long observation time afforded by the trap can then be exploited to measure the radiative lifetime of this state by monitoring the temporal decay of the population in the trap. This method is demonstrated here and used to benchmark the Einstein A coefficients in the Meinel system of OH. A pulsed beam of vibrationally excited OH radicals is Stark decelerated and loaded into an electrostatic quadrupole trap. The radiative lifetime of the upper Lamda-doublet component of the Chi2Pi3/2, v=1, J=3/2 level is determined as 59.0+/-2.0 ms, in good agreement with the calculated value of 58.0+/-1.0 ms. 相似文献

Time-resolved anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy has been applied to probe the dynamics of optical phonons created in single-walled carbon nanotubes by femtosecond laser excitation. From measurement of the decay of the anti-Stokes Raman signal in semiconducting nanotubes of (6,5) chiral index, a room-temperature lifetime for G-mode phonons of 1.1+/-0.2 ps has been determined. This lifetime, which reflects the anharmonic coupling of the G-mode phonons to lower-frequency phonons, is important in assessing the role of nonequilibrium phonon populations in high-field transport phenomena. 相似文献

Double neutral pion photoproduction from the proton has been measured at MAMI for photon energies between threshold and 820
MeV. The reaction was identified by an invariant mass and missing mass analysis. From threshold up to 370 MeV the total cross-section
does not exceed 30 nb. For higher energies it shows a smooth rise until it reaches a maximum of about 10 μb at E
γ = 740 MeV. Dalitz plots of m
2(π0π0) versus
m
2(p,π0) for seven bins of incident photon energy have been analysed. For E
γ > 610 MeV, a strong contribution of a sequential decay is observed with the Δ(1232)-resonance as intermediate state. A comparison
to model calculations shows that these sequential decays presumably originate from the D
13(1520) and also the P
11(1440)-resonance.

A complete FESR-plus-Regge analysis is made of neutral pion photoproduction and electroproduction to understand the Regge cut and its dependence onk 2, the square of the virtual photon mass. A SCRAM type of model is essential, but contrary to previous expectations the range of the photon-proton interaction which gives rise to the cut increases with-k 2, and is not related to the pointlike, scaling behaviour of deep inelastic scattering, which arises from much simpler parton-model diagrams. 相似文献

The polarisation parameters Σ, P and T have been measured for the process γp→π0p in the photon energy range 1300–2100 MeV and c.m. angles between 30° and 110°, in an experiment with a polarised beam and polarised target. The results are compared with a recent theoretical analysis which fits data from threshold to 16 GeV. We present the first detailed measurement of incoherent photoproduction of neutral pions to a discrete state of a residual nucleus. The 12C(gamma,pi(0))(12)C*(4.4 MeV) reaction has been studied with the Glasgow photon tagger at MAMI employing a new technique which uses the large solid angle Crystal Ball detector both as a pi(0) spectrometer and to detect decay photons from the excited residual nucleus. The technique has potential applications to a broad range of future nuclear measurements with the Crystal Ball and similar detector systems elsewhere. Such data are sensitive to the propagation of the Delta in the nuclear medium and will give the first information on matter transition form factors from measurements with an electromagnetic probe. The incoherent cross sections are compared to two theoretical predictions including a Delta-hole model. 相似文献

The global stability of the uniform ground state of nuclear matter is tested relative to a π0-condensed state characterized by static spin-(isospin-) waves. Strong nuclear correlations are introduced into the trial wave functions for each phase, thereby permitting models of the realistic two-nucleon force to be employed. In low cluster-order comparison, the uniform phases of symmetrical nuclear matter and neutron matter are emphatically favored over the entire density range considered. 相似文献

We investigate near-threshold neutral pion photoproduction off protons to fourth order in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation
theory in the light of the new data from MAMI. We show that the unitarity cusp at the secondary π+
n threshold is in agreement with expectations from the final-state theorem. We also analyze the fourth-order corrections to
the P-wave low-energy theorems and show that potentially large Δ isobar contributions are cancelled by sizeable pion loop effects.
This solidifies the parameter-free third-order predictions, which are in good agreement with the data.

An experiment has been completed at the Daresbury synchrotron to measure the asymmetry in the photoproduction cross section of neutral pions on hydrogen, for photons polarised normal to and in the production plane. The source of polarised photons was coherent bremsstrahlung of electrons traversing the lattice structure of diamond and the polarisation P of the γ beam was calculated from the measured intensity of the coherent spike. The asymmetry parameter Σ, defined as Σ = (σ⊥ ? σ|)/(σ⊥ + σ|) where σ⊥(σ|) are the cross sections for photons polarised perpendicular (parallel) to the production plane, has been measured over a range of photon energies from 1.2 to 2.8 GeV and over a range of ?t (the square of the four-momentum transfer) from 0.13 (GeV/c)2 to 1.4 (GeV/c)2. A marked energy variation in the value of Σ is found over the energy region 1.6–1.8 GeV. 相似文献

We present a new determination of the parity of the neutral pion via the double Dalitz decay pi0-->e+e-e+e-. Our sample, which consists of 30,511 candidate decays, was collected from KL-->pi0pi0pi0 decays in flight at the KTeV-E799 experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. We confirm the negative pi0 parity and place a limit on scalar contributions to the pi0-->e+e-e+e- decay amplitude of less than 3.3% assuming CPT conservation. The pi0gamma*gamma* form factor is well described by a momentum-dependent model with a slope parameter fit to the final state phase-space distribution. Additionally, we have measured the branching ratio of this mode to be B(pi0-->e+e-e+e-)=(3.26+/-0.18)x10(-5). 相似文献

We have reconstructed 695 three-track τ decay vertices using a high resolution drift chamber close to the interaction point.
From the distribution of decay lengths we measure the lifetime to be (3.06 ±0.20±0.14)×10−13 s. Using this result we find that the ratio of charged weak coupling constant for the τ to that of the μ,G
τ/G
μ=0.967±0.040 consistent with the concept of lepton universality.

We show that diffractive production of a single neutral pion in photon-induced reactions at high energy is dynamically suppressed
due to the approximate chiral symmetry of QCD. These reactions have been proposed as a test of the odderon-exchange mechanism.
We show that the odderon contribution to the amplitude for such reactions vanishes exactly in the chiral limit. This result
is obtained in a nonperturbative framework and by using PCAC relations between the amplitudes for neutral pion and axial vector
