Barlow-Wu continuum structure functions have been introduced in the past as one particularly interesting family of continuum structure functions. In this paper we provide an alternative characterization for such continuum structure functions, showing other interesting properties. Interpolatory quadrature rules exactly integrating rational functions on the unit circle are considered. The poles are prescribed under the only restriction of not lying on the unit circle. A computable upper bound of the error is obtained which is valid for any choice of poles, arbitrary weight functions and any degree of exactness provided that the integrand is analytic on a neighborhood of the unit circle. A number of numerical examples are given which show the advantages of using such rules as well as the sharpness of the error bound. Also, a comparison is made with other error bounds appearing in the literature. Consider the problem, usually called the Pólya–Chebotarev problem, of finding a continuum in the complex plane including some given points such that the logarithmic capacity of this continuum is minimal. We prove that each connected inverse image ${\mathcal {T}}_{n}^{-1} ([-1,1])$ of a polynomial  ${\mathcal {T}}_{n}$ is always the solution of a certain Pólya–Chebotarev problem. By solving a nonlinear system of equations for the zeros of ${\mathcal {T}}_{n}^{2}-1$ , we are able to construct polynomials ${\mathcal {T}}_{n}$ with a connected inverse image.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of determining the absolute center of a network, taking into account two objective functions. These functions consist of minimizing the maximum of the distances from any point on the network to the vertices, using two independent lengths on each edge. We propose an algorithm in polynomial time to obtain the non-dominated location points on the network, using the Kariv and Hakimi method (1979). The Nevalinna–Pick algorithm yields a continued fraction expansion of every Schur function, whose approximants are identified. These approximants are quotients of rational functions which can be understood as the rational analogs of the Wall polynomials. The properties of these Wall rational functions and the corresponding approximants permit us to obtain a Khrushchev’s formula for orthogonal rational functions. An introduction to the convergence of the Wall approximants in the indeterminate case is presented. In this paper, we consider shifted tridiagonal matrices. We prove that the standard algorithm to compute the LU factorization in this situation is mixed forward-backward stable and, therefore, componentwise forward stable. Moreover, we give a formula to compute the corresponding condition number in O(n) flops. Generalized Pólya frequency functions are introduced through inverse Mellin transformations of the reciprocals of real entire functions with all zeros in sectors A ? and ? In this note we show by means of a simple example that, if the maximin problem with (nonlinear) concave increasing utility functions is solved by inspecting the extreme points of the (generalized) Voronoi diagram (as usually proposed), one may have to inspect an infinite number of candidate points. We obtain strong restrictions on the structure of a Sylow 2-subgroup of a group with at most three real valued irreducible characters. This extends results of Iwasaki, who studied groups with at most two real valued irreducible characters. Computing estimates in functional principal component analysis (FPCA) from discrete data is usually based on the approximation of sample curves in terms of a basis (splines, wavelets, trigonometric functions, etc.) and a geometrical structure in the data space (L 2 spaces, Sobolev spaces, etc.). Until now, the computational efforts have been focused in developing ad hoc algorithms to approximate those estimates by previously selecting an efficient approximating technique and a convenient geometrical structure. The main goal of this paper consists of establishing a procedure to formulate the algorithm for computing estimates of FPCA under general settings. The resulting algorithm is based on the classic multivariate PCA of a certain random vector and can thus be implemented in the majority of statistical packages. In fact, it is derived from the analysis of the effects of modifying the norm in the space of coordinates. Finally, an application on real data will be developed to illustrate the so derived theoretic results. We consider the problem of approximating functions by sums of few exponentials functions, either on an interval or on the positive half-axis. We study both continuous and discrete cases, i.e. when the function is replaced by a number of equidistant samples. Recently, an algorithm has been constructed by Beylkin and Monzón for the discrete case. We provide a theoretical framework for understanding how this algorithm relates to the continuous case.  相似文献

It is shown that it is possible to construct an analogue of the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition for the Morrey spaces Morλ for the entire interval λ ∈ (0,1]. Moreover, for λ ∈ (1-,1] it is possible to construct a smooth analogue of the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition. The reason why we do not have any smooth analogues for the entire interval λ ∈ (0,1] is related to the following interesting property of cubes in the Whitney decomposition lemma: The sum of the volumes of Whitney cubes to the power λ is equal to infinity for λ ∈ (0,1-(1/n)].  相似文献

In this paper we deal with the maximal subspace in BMOA where a general semigroup of analytic functions on the unit disk generates a strongly continuous semigroup of composition operators. Particular cases of this question are related to a well-known theorem of Sarason about VMOA. Our results describe analytically that maximal subspace and provide a condition which is sufficient for the maximal subspace to be exactly VMOA. A related necessary condition is also proved in the case when the semigroup has an inner Denjoy-Wolff point. As a byproduct we provide a generalization of the theorem of Sarason. Consider the Clifford algebra of the antieuclidean vector space of dimension 2m + 1. Let x be the identity mapping on the space of scalars + vectors. The holomorphic Cliffordian functions may be viewed roughly as generated by the powers of x, namely xn , their derivatives, their sums, their limits (cf: zn for classical holomorphic functions). LetE be a complex Banach space with open unit ballB e. The structure of the space of composition operators on the Banach algebra H∞, of bounded analytic functions onB e with the uniform topology, is studied. We prove that the composition operators arising from mappings whose range lies strictly insideB e form a path connected component. WhenE is a Hilbert space or aC o(X)- space, the path connected components are shown to be the open balls of radius 2. The existence of infinite dimensional closed linear spaces of holomorphic functions f on a domain G in the complex plane such that Tf has dense images on certain subsets of G, where T is a continuous linear operator, is analyzed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for T to have the latter property are provided and applied to obtain a number of concrete examples: infinite order differential operators, composition operators and multiplication operators, among others.
