CMS remote center at JINR

The dedicated remote center of CMS Experiment at the LHC has been founded in JINR (Dubna). The main mission of the center is operational and efficient monitoring of the CMS detector systems, including the measurements of performance parameters during the prompt data analysis, monitoring of data acquisition and quality of data. Since 2009 the center is involved in remote shifts and operation works of the CMS.     

Flashlamp pumped color center lasers

Flashlamp pumped tunable operation of F_A(II) and F_B(II) center lasers is reported. Threshold pump energies as low as 400 mJ, output energies of nearly 70 mJ and an efficiency of 0.1% have been achieved. The width of the emission spectrum of initially 70 GHz with a Littrow grating tuner was reduced to 1.5 GHz using a grazing incidence grating configuration. The scalability of the system is discussed.     

A dislocation-bound Coulomb impurity center

The paper discusses localized electron states in semiconductors near a charged impurity situated in the region of the core of a dislocation forming a deep dislocation zone. The energy spectrum is nondegenerate and constitutes a weakly disorted series of Coulomb levels. The corresponding wave functions are highly anisotropic; their localization radius in the direction perpendicular to the dislocation coincides with the localization radius of the wave function of an electron in the dislocation band. Along the dislocation the wave function decreases at a distance of the order of the effective Bohr radius.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 9, pp. 73–78, September, 1981.     

UV-laser excitation of color center lasers

Direct uv-laser excitation of color center lasers is reported. By pumping the L-bands with nitrogen and excimer lasers tunable narrow-band operation in the range from 2.2 μm to 3.2 μm has been achieved using different F_A(II) and F_B(II) center crystals.     

Double-hole aluminum center in α-quartz

EPR studies at ca. 25 K of a single crystal of α-quartz, which had been X-irradiated at 77 K, have disclosed the presence of a new type of impurity center. This is thought to consist of a substitutional aluminum 3+ ion with electron holes at two neighboring oxygen ions, forming a triplet system. The two primary ²⁷Al hyperfine multiples as well as the half-field spectrum have been observed, and have led to an approximate spin-Hamiltonian.     

A trigonal color center in NaF

Uniaxial stress splitting experiments suggest the 5456 Å zero-phonon line in NaF to be due to a transition of the F ₃ ⁺ center. The line and a number of phonon-assisted peaks are observed in absorption and emission.     

Centroaffine surfaces with degenerate center map

We study and classify the centroaffine surfaces with degenerate center map. The centroaffine surface with definite induced centroaffine metric has degenerate center map if and only if it is a proper affine sphere. In particular, we investigate the degenerate center map of the centroaffine ruled surfaces and consider its relationship with the centroaffine space curve.     

Silver atom center in α-quartz

A new paramagnetic center, Afs_Ag?Si, in silver-diffused α-quartz is described and its spin-Hamiltonian parameters are presented. The center is formulated as a silver atom $\text{(S =}\text{1}\text{2}\text{)}$ situated in a c-axis channel, bonded weakly to a normal silicon cation, with four oxygen anions as neighbors. A_Ag?Si is created by X-irradiation and is unstable at room temperature.     

A Savvidy vacuum with center vortices

The one loop SU(2) effective potential of a constant chromomagnetic field and thin vortex has been obtained using the background field method in the scope of the Yang–Mills theory. The possible relationship between a Savvidy vacuum and a spaghetti vacuum is discussed.     

Scattering of electrons by a Coulomb center

New results are obtained from which it follows that systematic use of the one-to-one correspondence between a physical quantity and an operator, which permits the existence of a non-negative quantum distribution function, leads to an effective smearing of the potential and to the appearance of a form factor, i.e., to the existence of structure in the scattering center.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 4, pp. 16–19, April, 1980.     

Magnetic color center on a continuum model

A simple model is proposed for a trapping center in magnetic semiconductors. The model is a hydrogen-like atom immersed in a continuous paramagnetic medium (we confine ourselves to the paramagnetic region of magnetic semiconductors). The 1-s and 2-p levels are calculated for each fixed spin configuration, and are plotted in a diagram against an appropriate single variable which characterizes the configuration.     

Constructing center operator from center-surround top-hat transform

Morphological center operator has been one important operator constructed from the morphological alternating filters, which could be well used in optical signal analysis applications. Alternating operators which have the similar properties as the alternating filters have been constructed from the center-surround top-hat transform, which have superiority in some optical signal analysis applications. In light of this, the center operator which has some good properties could be also constructed from the center-surround top-hat transform. In this paper, the constructed center operator from the center-surround top-hat transform is given. And the properties of the constructed operator are also analyzed, which indicates that the constructed operator may be also useful operators for some optical signal analysis applications.
