Bulky substituents in vinyl trialkylsilyl ethers and vinyl trialkylcarbinyl ethers led to heterotactic polymers (H = 66%). The polymers were converted into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and further to poly(vinyl acetate), and tacticity was determined as poly(vinyl acetate). Vinyl triisopropylsilyl ether in nonpolar solvents yielded a heterotactic polymer with a higher percentage of isotactic triads than syndiotactic triads (Hetero-I). Vinyl trialkylcarbinyl ethers in polar solvents gave a heterotactic polymer with more syndiotactic triads than isotactic (Hetero-II). Heterotactic PVA was soluble in water and showed characteristics infrared absorptions. Interestingly, Hetero-I PVA showed no iodine color reaction, but Hetero-II showed a much more intense color reaction than a commercial PVA. The mechanism of heterotactic propagation was discussed in terms of the Markóv chain model.  相似文献

Active packaging materials are the subject of research because their performance exceeds that of traditional packaging. From this class, antimicrobial materials extend the shelf-life of products and reduce the risk of contamination by pathogens. In this paper, new composite materials with antimicrobial properties are obtained by using polyvinyl alcohol and bacterial cellulose powder. Potassium (2E,4E)-hexa-2,4-dienoate was used as the antimicrobial agent. The films thus obtained were characterised using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Mass transfer phenomena concerning the release of potassium (2E,4E)-hexa-2,4-dienoate were investigated. The results indicated that the new biocomposite films could be used as antimicrobial packaging materials.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) has been converted to an electrically conductive structure by combined electrochemical and photochemical methods. PVC was cast on a polypyrrole (PPy) film electrode which had been electrochemically prepared. The PVC layer in the laminated PVC/PPy films was first dehydrochlorinated under the illumination of UV light, and the generated polyenes were subsequently doped with I2 and FeCl3. The maximum electrical conductivity achieved for such PVC film was 2.51 X 10?2 and 8.63 10?2 S cm?1 after I2 and FeCl3 doping, respectively. The temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity showed different behavior in higher and lower temperature ranges. In the former (T > 243 K), the T?1 law held, and the activation energy and bandgap were estimated as 0.25 and 0.49 eV, respectively. In the latter (T < 243 K), the conductivity mechanism followed the variable range hopping model (T?1/4 law) in which the radius of the localized state wave function and the density of the localized states at the Fermi level were 1.25 × 103 Å and 1.03 X 1015 eV?1 cm?3, respectively. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Dielectric constant, dielectric loss tangent, and electrical conductivity were studied as functions of temperature for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films doped with ammonium metavanadate or polyoxometalate Mo132: (NH4)42[Mo 72 VI Mo 60 V O372(HCOO)30(H2O)72]30HCOONH4·250H2O. The electrophysical characteristics were measured and analyzed as dependent on the concentration and nature of the salt component and ambient humidity. The conductivity of polymer-salt compositions as a function of salt component concentration has a maximum, which is typical of electrolyte solutions. A conductivity mechanism was suggested: electron conductivity due to radical species at relatively low temperatures and proton conductivity at higher temperatures. Inflections on the electrical conductivity versus temperature and other property plots are due to removal of water from the compositions and thermal destruction.  相似文献

Fully-biodegradable bacterial poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/chemosynthetic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend films with compositional gradient from one surface to the other surface of the films were prepared by a dissolution-diffusion technique. Three kinds of PVA samples, high- and low-molecular weight atactic PVA and highly syndiotactic PVA (s-PVA), were used in order to investigate the effects of molecular weight and tactic structure on the generation of compositional gradient. The solution of PHB in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP), which is also a good solvent for PVA, was cast on the PVA film and then the solvent HFIP was evaporated. By selecting the optimum volume of solvent and the evaporation rate, the PHB/PVA blend film with compositional gradient was obtained. The formation of compositional gradient was confirmed by FT-IR microscopy and ATR-FT-IR analysis. The 50%/50% PHB/s-PVA blend film with a nearly ideal compositional gradient, that is, the composition of PHB (or PVA) in the film changing gradually from 100% at one surface to 0% at the other surface of the film was obtained by casting PHB/HFIP solution on to the s-PVA film. Positional dependence of the absorbance of C==O and OH stretching bands along the film thickness direction for the PHB/S-PVA cast films.  相似文献

Photoconductivity has been measured in well-dried poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVAl) films containing Cu2+ complexes prepared by treatment with Cu(NO3)2, CuSO4, CuCl2, and CuBr2. When the ratio [Cu2+]/[MU] ([MU] denoting the concentration of PVAl monomer residues) is greater than 0.015, illumination at the charge-transfer (UV) band produces a strong photocurrent in PVAl-CuCl2 and PVAl-CuBr2, but not in PVAl-Cu(NO3)2 or PVAl-CuSO4. Optical absorption spectra suggest that two halide ions enter the first coordination sphere in the cis configuration. The temperature dependence of ESR indicates the existence of antiferromagnetic superexchange interaction via intervening halide ions. Hence, there exists a network structure of the PVAl-CuCl2 or PVAl-CuBr2 complex. The dependence of the photocurrent on the polarity of the illuminated electrode shows that the majority of carriers are holes. Holes in the network structure produced by charge transfer from halogen to Cu2+ ions are concluded to be responsible for the photoconduction.  相似文献

During the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as stabilizer and potassium persulfate as initiator, the VAc reacts with PVA forming PVA-graft-PVAc. When the grafted polymer reaches a critical size it becomes water-insoluble and precipitates from the aqueous phase contributing to the formation of polymer particles. Since particle formation and therefore the properties of the final latex will depend on the degree of grafting, it is important to quantify and to characterize the grafted PVA. In this work, the quantitative separation and characterization of the grafted water-insoluble PVA was carried out by a two-step selective solubilization of the PVAc latex, first with acetonitrile to separate PVAc homopolymer, followed by water to separate the water-soluble PVA from the remaining acetonitrile-insoluble material. After the separation, the water-soluble and water-insoluble PVA were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses, from which the details of the PVA-graft-PVAc structure were obtained. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Optical and ESR spectra of polymer-Cu(II) complexes in polymer films have been studied. The dependence on F1 = [Cu2+]/[MU] and F2 = [OH?]/[Cu2+], where [MU] is the molar concentration of monomeric units of the polymer, has been obtained. Optical spectra and potentiometric titration curves in solution have also been studied. There exists a buffer region 0 ? F2 ? 2. Optical spectra in films are slightly different from those in solutions. At least five different ESR signals, designated as A, B, C or D, and E, have been found in poly(vinyl alcohol)-Cu(II). These signals appear successively with increasing F2. Assignments are proposed as follows. Signal A (F2 ≈ 0), also found in poly(acrylamide)-Cu(II) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)-Cu(II), is due to a single Cu(II) coordinated with two water molecules and chelated with two oxygens or nitrogens attached to the polymer. A chain of Cu(II) ions singly and double bridged with OH? ions is responsible for the B signal (F2 ≈ 1). The C and D signals (F2 ≈ 2) appear to be caused, respectively, by a dimeric Cu(II) complex singly or doubly bridged with OH? ions. The E signal (F2 ≈ 7) appears to be due to a monomeric Cu(II) complex, different from that responsible for the A signal.  相似文献

Films of biodegradable blends based on sodium alginate for applications in agriculture, as films for the solarization of soils, were prepared and characterized in terms of the mechanical parameters and optical properties. The films analyzed in this study were transparent in the visible region and opaque in the infrared region. This ensured a micro greenhouse effect on the soil. One of the films was also characterized optically in the ultraviolet–visible–infrared region. The optical data were analyzed with a theoretical model, which was able to predict the temperature of the soil at different depths and at different times of the day. The susceptibility time of the film was compatible with its use in agriculture as a film for solarization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 43: 1205–1213, 2005  相似文献

The possible incorporation of water molecules within the crystal structure of poly(vinyl alcohol) is discussed. Modelling of the crystal structure suggested that water could be incorporated without severe disruption, and the effect on the X-ray powder diffraction trace was simulated. The effect of variation in tacticity is discussed in terms of the nature of the hydrogen bonding. Simulated traces are compared with experimental data from atactic samples in which a change in the diffraction peak intensities is observed for samples crystallised with water present. This is compared with samples produced from nonaqueous solutions.  相似文献

It is a common view that poly(vinyl acetate) has many branches at the acetyl side group, but that the corresponding poly(vinyl alcohol) has little branching. In order to study the branching in poly(vinyl acetate) and poly(vinyl alcohol) which is formed by chain transfer to polymer, the polymerization of 14C-labeled vinyl acetate in the presence of crosslinked poly(vinyl acetate), which was able to be decrosslinked to give soluble polymers, was investigated at 60°C and 0°C. This system made it possible to separate as well as to distinguish the graft polymer from the newly polymerized homopolymer. Furthermore, the degree of grafting onto the acetoxymethyl group and onto the main chain were estimated. It became clear that, in the polymerization of vinyl acetate, chain transfer to the polymer main chain takes place about 2.4 times as frequently at 60°C as that to the acetoxy group and about 4.8 times as frequently at 0°C.  相似文献

Hybrid blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and collagen hydrolyzate (CH), an added value waste from leather indutry, have been converted by blown molding extrusion, to environmentally degradable films. Blown extruded films comprising 5-15% of CH, were tested as sel fertilizing mulching films and analyzed for their propensity to enviromental degradation. PVA/CH films rapidly disintegrate when buried in soil, and resulted promising for application such as transplanting films, with additional fertilizing action of CH.  相似文献

The miscibility of poly(viny1 alcohol)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVA/PVP) blends is investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle x-ray diffraction (WAXD). The molecular orientation induced by uniaxial stretching of the blends is also examined by WAXD and birefringence measurements. It is shown by the DSC thermal analysis that the polymer pair is miscible, since a single glass transition temperature (Tg) is situated between the Tgs of the two homopolymers at every composition. The Tg versus composition curve does not follow a monotonic function but exhibits a cusp point at a PVP volume fraction of a little under 0.7, as in a case predicted by Kovacs' theory. The presence of a specific intermolecular interaction between the two polymers is suggested by an observed systematic depression in the melting point of the PVA component. A negative value of the polymer-polymer interaction parameter, χ12 = 0.35 (at 513 K), is estimated from a thermodynamic approach via a control experiment using samples crystallized isothermally at various temperatures. The extent of optical birefringence (Δn) of the drawn blends decreases drastically with increasing PVP content up to 80 wt %, when compared at a given draw ratio, and ultimately Δn is found to change from positive to negative at a critical PVP concentration of a little over 80 wt %. Discussion of the molecular orientation behavior takes into consideration a birefringence compensation effect in the miscible amorphous phase due to positive and negative contributions of oriented PVA and PVP, respectively.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohols) derived from the product of polymerization of vinyl acetate in methanol have been characterized by various physical and chemical methods before and after NaIO4 cleavage. The 220-MHz 1H-NMR spectra confirm the reliability of NaIO4 titrimetry for estimating 1,2-glycol content and help explain the tendency for viscometry to grossly underestimate the 1,2-glycol content for low molecular weight polymers. The spectra and related chemical evidence indicate that the major endgroups are HOCH2CH2? and CH3CH(OH)CH(OH)CH2? . ß-Hydroxyethyl groups also occur as short chain branches, mainly attached to α carbon atoms in the normal head-to-tail polymer chain sequence. The concentrations of the branch and endgroups depend on polymerization conditions and help explain polymerization “solvent” effects on physical properties.  相似文献

Miscibility of poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) and poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (P2VP) with poly(viny acetate) (PVAc), poly(vinyl alcohol) PVA and poly(vinyl acetate-co-alcohol) (ACA copolymers) has been investigated over a wide composition range. Differentiaal scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicate that P2VP is immiscible with PVAC, PVA, and their copolymers over the whole composition range. In turn, P4VP appears to be immiscible with PVAC and PVA, but miscible with some ACA copolymers in certain range of composition. The P4VP-ACA phase diagram for different copolymer compositions has been determined. The variation of the glass transition temperature with composition for miscible mixtures was found to follow the Gordon-Taylor equation, with the parameter κ dependent upon copolymer composition. FTIR analysis of blends reveal the existence of specific interactions via hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl groups and the nitrogen of the pyridinic ring, which appear to be decisive for miscibility. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A system of hydrogen bonds in weakly hydrated PVA films containing up to ≤8.5 wt % water is investigated via IR spectroscopy. It is shown that water molecules bind to only part of the hydroxyl groups of the polymer that are available for hydration and form the first hydrating layer. In a completely dehydrated film, practically every hydroxyl group of PVA forms hydrogen bonds with two other hydroxyl groups and serves as both a proton donor and a proton acceptor. In the hydrated film, one to three water molecules directly bind with one hydroxyl group of PVA.  相似文献

Hydrogen bonding between poly(methyl vinyl ether-co-maleic acid) (PMVE-MA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) has resulted in films with lower oxygen transmission rates (OTR) than pure PVOH. In the range 20-30% (w/w) PMVE-MA, complexation between the two polymers in the blend was maximized, as shown by viscometry, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) analysis. OTR measurements have shown that the maximum interpolymer complexation ratio also correlates with the lowest OTR values of the resulting film. The improved oxygen barrier properties are believed to be a combination of the relatively intact PVOH crystalline regions as shown with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and a higher degree of hydrogen bonding in the amorphous regions of the PVOH and PMVE-MA films as indicated by glass transition temperature (Tg) shifts. This leads to denser amorphous regions that reduces the rate of gases diffusing through the polymer film, hence the reduced OTR.  相似文献

The isotherms of water sorption by poly(vinyl alcohol) have been obtained by static sorption methods in a wide range of vapor activities. The properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) at various values of relative humidity have been studied by DSC, X-ray diffraction analysis, and mechanical testing. It has been shown that the correct thermodynamic analysis of sorption isotherms for sorbents with complex organization requires knowledge of their structural features. A method of allowing for the effect of osmotic pressure on the polymer sorption capacity is proposed. The pair interaction parameters estimated in this study are compared with the published data.  相似文献
