We study the static scalar susceptibility of the nuclear medium, i.e., the change of the quark condensate for a small modification of the quark mass. In the linear sigma model it is linked to the in-medium sigma propagator and its magnitude increases due to the mixing with the softer modes of the nucleon-hole excitations. We show that the pseudoscalar susceptibility, which is large in the vacuum, owing to the smallness of the pion mass, follows the density evolution of the quark condensate and thus decreases. At normal nuclear matter density the two susceptibilities become much closer, a partial chiral symmetry restoration effect as they become equal when the full restoration is achieved. The quark condensate in nuclear matter is studied. We relate it to the nuclear sigma commutator, and then treat it as sigma commutator for quasi- particles in a self-consistent way. We find that the deviation from the linear expression is large at high density. Received: 20 November 1997 / Revised version: 24 February 1998 / Published online: 16 September 1998  相似文献

We present results for the spin-1 color-spin-locking (CSL) phase using a NJL-type model in two-flavor quark matter for compact stars applications. The CSL condensate is flavor symmetric and therefore charge and color neutrality can easily be satisfied. We find small energy gaps ≃ 1MeV, which make the CSL matter composition and the EoS not very different from the normal quark matter phase. We keep finite quark masses in our calculations and obtain no gapless modes that could have strong consequences in the late cooling of neutron stars. Finally, we show that the region of the phase diagram relevant for neutron star cores, when asymmetric flavor pairing is suppressed, could be covered by the CSL phase.  相似文献

We investigate the evolutions with density of the QCD scalar susceptibility and of the sigma mass in a chiral relativistic theory of nuclear matter, in the mean-field approximation. In order to reach saturation we need to introduce the scalar response of the nucleons. The consequences are a quite mild density dependence of the sigma mass and the progressive decoupling of the quark density fluctuations from the nucleonic ones at large densities.  相似文献

We calculate the quark condensate in the nuclear matter, taking into account the single-pion and two-pion exchanges between nucleons. We find the dependence of the averaged value of the quark operator¯qq on the density of the matterρ. At very low density the nonlinear terms are proportional toρ 2 and increase the tendency to restoration of the chiral symmetry. At larger values of density the account of interaction inside the matter slower down the restoration of chiral symmetry compared to the gas approximation law. The leading nonlinear term in Fermi momentum power expansion becomes of the orderρ 4/3 . The value of the condensate at the saturation value of density is obtained. The role of multinucleon effects is analyzed.  相似文献

Using the QCD sum rules we calculate the neutron-proton mass difference at zero density as a function of the difference in bare quark massm dm u. We confirm results of Hatsuda, Høgaasen and Prakash that the largest term results from the difference in up and down quark condensates, the explicitC(m dm u) entering with the opposite sign. The quark condensates are then extended to finite density to estimate the Nolen-Schiffer effect. The neutron-proton mass difference is extremely density dependent, going to zero at roughly nuclear matter density. The Ioffe formula for the nucleon mass is interpreted as a derivation, within the QCD sum rule approach, of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio formula. This clarifies theN c counting and furthermore provides an alternative interpretation of the Borel mass.  相似文献

Using the chiral symmetry spontaneous breaking Lagrangian with mean-field approximation, we investigate the in-medium quark condensate 〈qq〉. It is found that the condensate decreases as the nuclear matter density ρ increases. Meanwhile, the desent deviates from the linear decrease and becomes remarkably slow as the density of the nuclear matter further increases. It shows that the chiral symmetry spontaneous breaking is only partially restored in densed nuclear matter.

The status of the investigations on the nucleon mass, nucleon radius and quark condensate in the framework of QCD inspired models and QCD effective field theories is briefly reviewed. The results in the global color symmetry model (GCM) are described a little detailedly. The calculated results indicate that, before the maximal density is reached, the mass of a nucleon in nuclear matter decreases, the radius of a nucleon and the quark condensate increase very slowly, with the increase of the nuclear matter density. As the maximal nuclear matter density is reached, the mass of the nucleon vanishes gradually. The radius becomes infinite and the quark condensate vanishes suddenly. A new mechanism for the chiral symmetry restoration in nuclear matter is proposed.  相似文献

We compute the modification of the quark condensate <ˉq q> in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and estimate the 4-volume, where the quark condensate is small (<ˉqq>/<ˉqq>0≤ 0.1–0.3) using hadron phase-space distributions obtained with the quark-gluon string model. As a function of the beam energy the 4-volume rises sharply at a beam energy Elab/A ≃ (2–5) GeV, remains roughly constant up to beam energies ≃ 20 GeV and rises at higher energies. At low energies the reduction of the condensate is mainly due to baryons, while at higher energies the rise of the 4-volume is due to the abundant mesons produced. Based on our results we expect that moderate beam energies on the order of 10 GeV per nucleon are favourable for studying the restoration of chiral symmetry in a baryon-rich environment in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Deconfinement phase transition and condensation of Goldstone bosons in neutron star matter are investigated in a chiral hadronic model (also referred as to the FST model) for the hadronic phase (HP) and in the color-flavor-locked (CFL) quark model for the deconfined quark phase. It is shown that the hadronic-CFL mixed phase (MP) exists in the center of neutron stars with a small bag constant, while the CFL quark matter cannot appear in neutron stars when a large bag constant is taken. Color superconductivity softens the equation of state (EOS) and decreases the maximum mass of neutron stars compared with the unpaired quark matter. The K0 condensation in the CFL phase has no remarkable contribution to the EOS and properties of neutron star matter. The EOS and the properties of neutron star matter are sensitive to the bag constant B, the strange quark mass ms and the color superconducting gap Δ. Increasing B and ms or decreasing Δ can stiffen the EOS which results in the larger maximum masses of neutron stars.  相似文献

We calculate the contribution of pions to the $\bar qq$-expectation value κ(ρ) =<Mq q|M> in symmetric nuclear matter. We employ exact pion propagator renormalized by nucleon-hole and isobar-hole excitations. Conventional straightforward calculation leads to the “pion condensation” at unrealistically small values of densities, causing even earlier restoration of chiral symmetry. This requires a self-consistent approach, consisting in using the models, which include direct dependence of in-medium mass values on κ(ρ), e.g. the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio–model. We show, that in the self-consistent approach the ρ-dependence of the condensate is described by a smooth curve. The “pion condensate” point is removed to much higher values of density. The chiral restoration does not take place at least while ρ < 2.8ρ0 with ρ0 being the saturation value. Validity of our approach is limited by possible accumulation of heavier baryons (delta isobars) in the ground state of nuclear matter. For the value of effective nucleon mass at the saturation density we found m *0) = 0.6m, consistent with nowadays results of other authors. Received: 8 October 1998  相似文献

It is expected that at very large densities and/or temperatures a quark-hadron phase transition takes place. Lattice QCD calculations at zero baryon density indicate that the transition occurs at T c ∼ 150–170 MeV. The transition is likely to be second order or a cross over phenomenon. Although not much is known about the density at which the phase transition takes place at small temperatures, it is expected to occur around the nuclear densities of few times nuclear matter density. Also, there is a strong reason to believe that the quark matter formed after the phase transition is in colour superconducting phase. The matter densities in the interior of neutron stars being larger than the nuclear matter density, the neutron star cores may possibly consist of quark matter which may be formed during the collapse of supernova. Starting with the assumption that the quark matter, when formed consists of predominantly u and d quarks, we consider the evolution of s quarks by weak interactions in the present work. The reaction rates and time required to reach the chemical equilibrium are computed here. Our calculations show that the chemical equilibrium is reached in about 10−7 seconds. Further more during the equilibration process enormous amont of energy is released and copious numbers of neutrinos are produced. Implications of these on the evolution of supernovae will be discussed.  相似文献

The matrix elements of the operators of strange quark fieldssГs where Г is 1 orγμγ 5 between a proton state is calculated. The sigma term is found to be ≈ 41 MeV and theSU(3) singlet axial matrix element is found to be ≈ 0.22, both in agreement with experiment. The sigma term is found using the trace anomaly, while the determination of the axial vector current matrix element is from QCD sum rules. These correspond to (ie.943-1)≈ 0.12 and for the axial current Δs −0.12, respectively. The role of the anomalies in maintaining flavor symmetry in the presence of substantial differences in quark masses is pointed out. This suggests that there is no need to invoke an intrinsic strange quark component in the proton wave function.  相似文献

In this communication we study symmetric nuclear matter for the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach, using two realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions (CD-Bonn and Bonn C). The single-particle energy is calculated self-consistently from the real on-shell self-energy. The relation between different expressions for the pressure is studied in cold nuclear matter. For best calculations the self-energy is calculated with the inclusion of hole-hole (hh) propagation. The effects of hh contributions and a self-consistent treatment within the framework of the Green function approach are investigated. Using two different methods, namely, G-matrix and bare potential, the hh term is calculated. We found that using G-matrix brought about non-negligible contribution to the self-energy, but this difference is very small and can be ignored if compared with the large contribution coming from particle-particle term. The contribution of the hh term leads to a repulsive contribution to the Fermi energy which increases with density. For extended Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach the Fermi energy at the saturation point fulfills the Hugenholtz-Van Hove relation.  相似文献

We study the baryon-quark phase transition in the molecular dynamics (MD) of the quark degrees of freedom at finite baryon density. The baryon state at low baryon density, and the deconfined quark state at high baryon density are reproduced. We investigate the equations of state of matters with different u-d-s compositions. It is found that the baryon-quark transition is sensitive to the quark width.

A modified version of PQCD considered in previous works is investigated here in the case of retaining only the quark condensate. The Green function generating functional is expressed in a form in which Dirac’s delta functions are now absent from the free propagators. The new expansion implements the dimensional transmutation effect through a single interaction vertex in addition to the standard ones in massless QCD. The new vertex suggest a way for constructing an alternative to the SM, in which the mass and CKM matrices could be generated by the instability of massless QCD under the production of the top quark and other fermions condensates, in a kind of generalized Nambu–Jona-Lasinio mechanism. The results of a two loop evaluation of the vacuum energy indicate that the quark condensate is dynamically generated. However, the energy as a function of the condensate parameter is again unbounded from below in this approximation. Assuming the existence of a minimum of the vacuum energy at the experimental value of the top quark mass m q =173 GeV, we evaluate the two particle propagator in the quark–anti-quark channel in zero order in the coupling and a ladder approximation in the condensate vertex. Adopting the notion from the former top quark models in which the Higgs field corresponds to the quark condensate, the results suggest that the Higgs particle could be represented by a meson which might appear at energies around twice the top quark mass.  相似文献

We discuss the relationship of the forward matrix element of the operator $\bar \psi \psi $ , related to the so-called sigma term, to the quark number. We show that in the naive quark model in the canonical formalism these quantities coincide in the limit of small average quarkmomenta. In the QCD parton model defined through light-front quantization this result is preserved at leading perturbative order but it receives radiative corrections. We analyze the theoretical and phenomenological consequences of this result, which provides a bridge between a current algebra quantity, the sigma term, and a deepinelastic quantity, the parton number.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the evaluation of the pionic scalar density at finite temperature and baryonic density. We express the latter effect in terms of the nuclear response evaluated in the random phase approximation. We discuss the density and temperature evolution of the pionic density which governs the quark condensate evolution. Numerical evaluations are performed.
