Summary. Let \Bbb K {\Bbb K} be either the field of reals or the field of complex numbers, X be an F-space (i.e. a Fréchet space) over \Bbb K {\Bbb K} n be a positive integer, and f : X ? \Bbb K f : X \to {\Bbb K} be a solution of the functional equation¶¶f(x + f(x)n y) = f(x) f(y) f(x + f(x)^n y) = f(x) f(y) .¶We prove that, if there is a real positive a such that the set { x ? X : |f(x)| ? (0, a)} \{ x \in X : |f(x)| \in (0, a)\} contains a subset of second category and with the Baire property, then f is continuous or { x ? X : |f(x)| ? (0, a)} \{ x \in X : |f(x)| \in (0, a)\} for every x ? X x \in X . As a consequence of this we obtain the following fact: Every Baire measurable solution f : X ? \Bbb K f : X \to {\Bbb K} of the equation is continuous or equal zero almost everywhere (i.e., there is a first category set A ì X A \subset X with f(X \A) = { 0 }) f(X \backslash A) = \{ 0 \}) .  相似文献

Given a binary relation R between the elements of two sets X and Y and a natural number k, it is shown that there exist k injective maps f1, f2,...,fk: X \hookrightarrow Y X \hookrightarrow Y with # {f1(x), f2(x),...,fk(x)}=k    and    (x,f1(x)), (x, f2(x)),...,(x, fk(x)) ? R \# \{f_1(x), f_2(x),...,f_k(x)\}=k \quad{\rm and}\quad (x,f_1(x)), (x, f_2(x)),...,(x, f_k(x)) \in R for all x ? X x \in X if and only if the inequality k ·# A £ ?y ? Y min(k, #{a ? A | (a,y) ? R}) k \cdot \# A \leq \sum_{y \in Y} min(k, \#\{a \in A \mid (a,y) \in R\}) holds for every finite subset A of X, provided {y ? Y | (x,y) ? R} \{y \in Y \mid (x,y) \in R\} is finite for all x ? X x \in X .¶Clearly, as suggested by this paper's title, this implies that, in the context of the celebrated Marriage Theorem, the elements x in X can (simultaneously) marry, get divorced, and remarry again a partner from their favourite list as recorded by R, for altogether k times whenever (a) the list of favoured partners is finite for every x ? X x \in X and (b) the above inequalities all hold.¶In the course of the argument, a straightforward common generalization of Bernstein's Theorem and the Marriage Theorem will also be presented while applications regarding (i) bases in infinite dimensional vector spaces and (ii) incidence relations in finite geometry (inspired by Conway's double sum proof of the de Bruijn-Erdös Theorem) will conclude the paper.  相似文献

We introduce the dimension monoid of a lattice L, denoted by Dim L. The monoid Dim L is commutative and conical, the latter meaning that the sum of any two nonzero elements is nonzero. Furthermore, Dim L is given along with the dimension map, D\Delta from L2L to Dim L, which has the intuitive meaning of a distance function. The maximal semilattice quotient of Dim L is isomorphic to the semilattice Conc L of compact congruences of L; hence Dim L is a precursor of the congruence lattice of L. Here are some additional features of this construction: ¶¶ (1) Our dimension theory provides a generalization to all lattices of the von Neumann dimension theory of continuous geometries. In particular, if L is an irreducible continuous geometry, then Dim L is either isomorphic to \Bbb Z+\Bbb Z^+ or to \Bbb R+\Bbb R^+.¶ (2) If L has no infinite bounded chains, then Dim L embeds (as an ordered monoid) into a power of \Bbb Z+è{¥}.{\Bbb Z}^{+}\cup \{\infty\}.¶ (3) If L is modular or if L has no infinite bounded chains, then Dim L is a refinement monoid.¶ (4) If L is a simple geometric lattice, then Dim L is isomorphic to \Bbb Z+\Bbb Z^+, if L is modular, and to the two-element semilattice, otherwise.¶ (5) If L is an à0\aleph_0-meet-continuous complemented modular lattice, then both Dim L and the dimension function D\Delta satisfy (countable) completeness properties.¶¶ If R is a von Neumann regular ring and if L is the lattice of principal right ideals of the matrix ring M2 (R), then Dim L is isomorphic to the monoid V (R) of isomorphism classes of finitely generated projective right R-modules. Hence the dimension theory of lattices provides a wide lattice-theoretical generalization of nonstable K-theory of regular rings.  相似文献

A generalized Hlawka's inequality says that for any n (\geqq 2) (\geqq 2) complex numbers¶ x1, x2, ..., xn,¶¶ ?i=1n|xi - ?j=1nxj| \leqq ?i=1n|xi| + (n - 2)|?j=1nxj|. \sum_{i=1}^n\Bigg|x_i - \sum_{j=1}^{n}x_j\Bigg| \leqq \sum_{i=1}^{n}|x_i| + (n - 2)\Bigg|\sum_{j=1}^{n}x_j\Bigg|. ¶¶ We generalize this inequality to the trace norm and the trace of an n x n matrix A as¶¶ ||A - Tr A ||1 \leqq ||A||1 + (n - 2)| Tr A|. ||A - {\rm Tr} A ||_1\ \leqq ||A||_1 + (n - 2)| {\rm Tr} A|. ¶¶ We consider also the related inequalities for p-norms (1 \leqq p \leqq ¥) (1 \leqq p \leqq \infty) on matrices.  相似文献

Let n be an integer and Bn \mathcal B_n be the variety defined by the law [xn,y][x,yn]-1 = 1.¶ Let Bn* \mathcal B_n^* be the class of groups in which for any infinite subsets X, Y there exist x ? For $ n \in {\pm 2, 3\} $ n \in {\pm 2, 3\} we prove that¶ Bn* = Bn èF \mathcal B_n^* = \mathcal B_n \cup \mathcal F , F \mathcal F being the class of finite groups. Also for $ n \in {- 3, 4\} $ n \in {- 3, 4\} and an infinite group G which has finitely many elements of order 2 or 3 we prove that G ? Bn* G \in \mathcal B_n^* if and only if G ? Bn G \in \mathcal B_n .  相似文献

An algebra is called finitary if it consists of finite-rank transformations of a vector space. We classify finitary simple Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of zero characteristic. It is shown that any such algebra is isomorphic to one of the following¶ (1) a special transvection algebra \frak t(V,P)\frak t(V,\mit\Pi );¶ (2) a finitary orthogonal algebra \frak fso (V,q)\frak {fso} (V,q); ¶ (3) a finitary symplectic algebra \frak fsp (V,s)\frak {fsp} (V,s).¶Here V is an infinite dimensional K-space; q (respectively, s) is a symmetric (respectively, skew-symmetric) nondegenerate bilinear form on V; and P\Pi is a subspace of the dual V* whose annihilator in V is trivial: 0={v ? V | Pv=0}0=\{{v}\in V\mid \Pi {v}=0\}.  相似文献

In this paper we present homogenization results for elliptic degenerate differential equations describing strongly anisotropic media. More precisely, we study the limit as e? 0 \epsilon \to 0 of the following Dirichlet problems with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients:¶¶ . \cases {{ -div(\alpha(\frac{x}{\epsilon}}, \nabla u) A(\frac{x}{\epsilon}) \nabla u) = f(x) \in L^{\infty}(\Omega) \atop u = 0 su \eth\Omega\ } ¶¶where, p > 1,     a: \Bbb Rn ×\Bbb Rn ? \Bbb R,     a(y,x) ? áA(y)x,x?p/2-1, A ? Mn ×n(\Bbb R) p>1, \quad \alpha : \Bbb R^n \times \Bbb R^n \to \Bbb R, \quad \alpha(y,\xi) \approx \langle A(y)\xi,\xi \rangle ^{p/2-1}, A \in M^{n \times n}(\Bbb R) , A being a measurable periodic matrix such that At(x) = A(x) 3 0A^t(x) = A(x) \ge 0 almost everywhere.¶¶The anisotropy of the medium is described by the following structure hypothesis on the matrix A:¶¶l2/p(x) |x|2 £ áA(x)x,x? £ L 2/p(x) |x|2, \lambda^{2/p}(x) |\xi|^2 \leq \langle A(x)\xi,\xi \rangle \leq \Lambda ^{2/p}(x) |\xi|^2, ¶¶where the weight functions l \lambda and L \Lambda (satisfying suitable summability assumptions) can vanish or blow up, and can also be "moderately" different. The convergence to the homogenized problem is obtained by a classical compensated compactness argument, that had to be extended to two-weight Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

Let A ì BA\subset B be rings. We say that A is t-closed in B, if for each a ? Aa\in A and b ? Bb\in B such that b2-ab,b3-ab2 ? Ab^2-ab,b^3-ab^2\in A, then b ? Ab\in A. We present a sufficient condition for the ring A[[X1,?,Xn]]A[[X_1,\ldots ,X_n]] to be t-closed in B[[X1,?,Xn]]B[[X_1,\ldots ,X_n]]. By an example, we show that our condition is not necessary. Even though the question is still open, some important cases are treated. For example, if A ì BA\subset B is an integral extension, or if A is p-injective, then A[[X1,?,Xn]]A[[X_1,\ldots ,X_n]] is t-closed in B[[X1,?,Xn]]B[[X_1,\ldots ,X_n]] if and only if A is t-closed in B.  相似文献

Let k be a principal ideal domain with identity and characteristic zero. For a positive integer n, with n \geqq 2n \geqq 2, let H(n) be the group of all n x n matrices having determinant ±1\pm 1. Further, we write SL(n) for the special linear group. Let L be a free Lie algebra (over k) of finite rank n. We prove that the algebra of invariants LB(n) of B(n), with B(n) ? { H(n), SL(n)}B(n) \in \{ H(n), {\rm SL}(n)\} , is not a finitely generated free Lie algebra. Let us assume that k is a field of characteristic zero and let áSem(n) ?\langle {\rm Sem}(n) \rangle be the Lie subalgebra of L generated by the semi-invariants (or Lie invariants) Sem(n). We prove that áSem(n) ?\langle {\rm Sem}(n) \rangle is not a finitely generated free Lie algebra which gives a positive answer to a question posed by M. Burrow [4].  相似文献

For a convex planar domain D \cal {D} , with smooth boundary of finite nonzero curvature, we consider the number of lattice points in the linearly dilated domain t D t \cal {D} . In particular the lattice point discrepancy PD(t) P_{\cal {D}}(t) (number of lattice points minus area), is investigated in mean-square over short intervals. We establish an asymptotic formula for¶¶ òT - LT + L(PD(t))2dt \int\limits_{T - \Lambda}^{T + \Lambda}(P_{\cal {D}}(t))^2\textrm{d}t ,¶¶ for any L = L(T) \Lambda = \Lambda(T) growing faster than logT.  相似文献

Let B\cal B be a p-block of cyclic defect of a Hecke order over the complete ring \Bbb Z[q] áq-1,p ?\Bbb {Z}[q] _{\langle q-1,p \rangle}; i.e. modulo áq-1 ?\langle q-1 \rangle it is a p-block B of cyclic defect of the underlying Coxeter group G. Then B\cal B is a tree order over \Bbb Z[q]áq-1, p ?\Bbb {Z}[q]_{\langle q-1, p \rangle } to the Brauer tree of B. Moreover, in case B\cal B is the principal block of the Hecke order of the symmetric group S(p) on p elements, then B\cal B can be described explicitly. In this case a complete set of non-isomorphic indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay B\cal B-modules is given.  相似文献

Let K be a convex body in \mathbbRn \mathbb{R}^n with volume |K| = 1 |K| = 1 . We choose N 3 n+1 N \geq n+1 points x1,?, xN x_1,\ldots, x_N independently and uniformly from K, and write C(x1,?, xN) C(x_1,\ldots, x_N) for their convex hull. Let f : \mathbbR+ ? \mathbbR+ f : \mathbb{R^+} \rightarrow \mathbb{R^+} be a continuous strictly increasing function and 0 £ in-1 0 \leq i \leq n-1 . Then, the quantity¶¶E (K, N, f °Wi) = òKK f[Wi(C(x1, ?, xN))]dxN ?dx1 E (K, N, f \circ W_{i}) = \int\limits_{K} \ldots \int\limits_{K} f[W_{i}(C(x_1, \ldots, x_N))]dx_{N} \ldots dx_1 ¶¶is minimal if K is a ball (Wi is the i-th quermassintegral of a compact convex set). If f is convex and strictly increasing and 1 £ in-1 1 \leq i \leq n-1 , then the ball is the only extremal body. These two facts generalize a result of H. We consider quadratic matrix polynomials of the form L(l) = l2A + elB + CL(\lambda) = \lambda^{2}A + \epsilon\lambda B + C, where e\epsilon is a real parameter, A is positive definite and B and C are symmetric. The main results of the paper are the characterization of the class of symmetric matrices B for which the spectrum of the polynomial is symmetric with respect to the imaginary axis and solutions of the corresponding differential equation oscillate in time. We also extend the results in [2] to allow us to study the asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues for large e\epsilon.  相似文献

In 1999, for lattices A and B, G. Grätzer and F. Wehrung introduced the lattice tensor product, A?B. In Part I of this paper, we showed that for a finite lattice A and a bounded lattice B, this construction can be "coordinatized,'' that is, represented in B A so that the representing elements are easy to recognize. In this note, we show how to extend our method to an arbitrary bounded lattice A to coordinatize A?B.  相似文献

Let V = G\G/KV =\Gamma\backslash G/K be a Riemannian locally symmetric space of nonpositive sectional curvature and such that the isometry group G of its universal covering space has Kazhdan's property (T). We establish strong dichotomies between the finite and infinite volume case. In particular, we characterize lattices (or, equivalently, arithmetic groups) among discrete subgroups G ì G\Gamma\subset G in various ways (e.g., in terms of critical exponents, the bottom of the spectrum of the Laplacian and the behaviour of the Brownian motion on V).  相似文献
