Some exact sequences for Toeplitz algebras of spherical isometries

A family of commuting bounded operators on a Hilbert space is said to be a spherical isometry if in the weak operator topology. We show that every commuting family of spherical isometries is jointly subnormal, which means that it has a commuting normal extension on some Hilbert space Suppose now that the normal extension is minimal. Then we show that every bounded operator in the commutant of has a unique norm preserving extension to an operator in the commutant of Moreover, if is the commutator ideal in then is *-isomorphic to We also show that the commutant of the minimal normal extension is completely isometric, via the compression mapping, to the space of Toeplitz-type operators associated to We apply these results to construct exact sequences for Toeplitz algebras on generalized Hardy spaces associated to strictly pseudoconvex domains.

     

Homogeneous polynomials on strictly convex domains

We consider a circular, bounded, strictly convex domain with boundary of class . For any compact subset of we construct a sequence of homogeneous polynomials on which are big at each point of . As an application for any circular subset of type we construct a holomorphic function which is square integrable on and such that where denotes unit disc in .

     

Multiple solutions for elliptic problems with singular and sublinear potentials

For certain positive numbers and we establish the multiplicity of solutions to the problem

where is a bounded open domain in containing the origin with smooth boundary while is continuous, superlinear at zero and sublinear at infinity.

     

Artinianess of graded local cohomology modules

Let be a Noetherian homogeneous ring with local base ring and let be a finitely generated graded -module. Let be the largest integer such that is not Artinian. We will prove that are Artinian for all and there exists a polynomial of degree less than such that for all . Let be the first integer such that the local cohomology module is not cofinite. We will show that for all the graded module is Artinian.

     

Equlibrium measure of a product subset of

In this note we show that an equilibrium measure of a product of two subsets of and , respectively, is a product of their equilibrium measures. We also obtain a formula for , where are locally bounded plurisubharmonic functions and .

     

Enriched Reedy categories

We define the notion of an enriched Reedy category and show that if is a -Reedy category for some symmetric monoidal model category and is a -model category, the category of -functors and -natural transformations from to is again a model category.

     

Atomic characterization of the Hardy space of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators with nonnegative potentials

Given a Schrödinger operator on with nonnegative potential , we present an atomic characterization of the associated Hardy space .

     

Local existence of -sets, projective tensor products, and Arens regularity for

Theorem. If are perfect compact subsets of the locally compact metrizable abelian group, then there are pairwise disjoint perfect subsets such that (i) is either a Kronecker set or (ii) for some , is a translate of a -set all of whose elements have order , and (iii) is isomorphic to the projective tensor product .

This extends what was previously known for groups such as or for the case to the general locally compact abelian group. Old results concerning the local existence of Kronecker and -sets are improved.

Noncoherence of some rings of functions

Let , denote the unit disc and unit circle, respectively, in , with center 0. If , then let denote the set of complex-valued functions defined on that are analytic in , and continuous and bounded on . Then is a ring with pointwise addition and multiplication. We prove that if the intersection of with the set of limit points of is not empty, then the ring is not coherent.

     

Counting cusps of subgroups of

Let be a number field with real places and complex places, and let be the ring of integers of . The quotient has cusps, where is the class number of . We show that under the assumption of the generalized Riemann hypothesis that if is not or an imaginary quadratic field and if , then has infinitely many maximal subgroups with cusps. A key element in the proof is a connection to Artin's Primitive Root Conjecture.

     

A sharp result on -covers

Let be a finite system of residue classes which forms an -cover of (i.e., every integer belongs to at least members of ). In this paper we show the following sharp result: For any positive integers and , if there is such that the fractional part of is , then there are at least such subsets of . This extends an earlier result of M. Z. Zhang and an extension by Z. W. Sun. Also, we generalize the above result to -covers of the integral ring of any algebraic number field with a power integral basis.

     

Existence and uniqueness theorems for singular anisotropic quasilinear elliptic boundary value problems

On bounded domains we consider the anisotropic problems in with 1$"> and on and in with and on . Moreover, we generalize these boundary value problems to space-dimensions 2$">. Under geometric conditions on and monotonicity assumption on we prove existence and uniqueness of positive solutions.     

Asymptotic estimates for a two-dimensional problem with polynomial nonlinearity

In this paper we give asymptotic estimates of the least energy solution of the functional

as goes to infinity. Here is a smooth bounded domain of . Among other results we give a positive answer to a question raised by Chen, Ni, and Zhou (2000) by showing that .

Uniqueness for boundary blow-up problems with continuous weights

In this paper, we prove that for the problem in a bounded domain of has a unique positive solution with on . The nonnegative weight is continuous in , but is only assumed to verify a ``bounded oscillations" condition of local nature near , in contrast with previous works, where a definite behavior of near was imposed.

     

Tauberian type theorem for operators with interpolation spectrum for Hölder classes

We consider an invertible operator on a Banach space whose spectrum is an interpolating set for Hölder classes. We show that if , , with and , then for all , assuming that satisfies suitable regularity conditions. When is a Hilbert space and (i.e. is a contraction), we show that under the same assumptions, is unitary and this is sharp.

     

A strong comparison principle for the -Laplacian

We consider weak solutions of the differential inequality of p-Laplacian type

such that on a smooth bounded domain in and either or is a weak solution of the corresponding Dirichlet problem with zero boundary condition. Assuming that on the boundary of the domain we prove that , and assuming that on the boundary of the domain we prove unless . The novelty is that the nonlinearity is allowed to change sign. In particular, the result holds for the model nonlinearity with .

     

A non-Hausdorff model for the complement of a complexified hyperplane arrangement

Given a hyperplane arrangement in a real vector space , we introduce a real algebraic prevariety , and exhibit the complement of in the complexification of as the total space of an affine bundle over with fibers modeled on the dual vector space .
