In this paper a linear programming-based optimization algorithm called the Sequential Cutting Plane algorithm is presented. The main features of the algorithm are described, convergence to a Karush–Kuhn–Tucker stationary point is proved and numerical experience on some well-known test sets is showed. The algorithm is based on an earlier version for convex inequality constrained problems, but here the algorithm is extended to general continuously differentiable nonlinear programming problems containing both nonlinear inequality and equality constraints. A comparison with some existing solvers shows that the algorithm is competitive with these solvers. Thus, this new method based on solving linear programming subproblems is a good alternative method for solving nonlinear programming problems efficiently. The algorithm has been used as a subsolver in a mixed integer nonlinear programming algorithm where the linear problems provide lower bounds on the optimal solutions of the nonlinear programming subproblems in the branch and bound tree for convex, inequality constrained problems.

Recently, a new algebraic structure called pseudo-equality algebra has been defined by Jenei and Kóródi as a generalization of the equality algebra previously introduced by Jenei. As a main result, it was proved that the pseudo-equality algebras are term equivalent with pseudo-BCK meet-semilattices. We found a gap in the proof of this result and we present a counterexample and a correct version of the theorem. The correct version of the corresponding result for equality algebras is also given.  相似文献

Lotfi et al. [Solving a full fuzzy linear programming using lexicography method and fuzzy approximate solution, Appl. Math. Modell. 33 (2009) 3151–3156] pointed out that there is no method in literature for finding the fuzzy optimal solution of fully fuzzy linear programming (FFLP) problems and proposed a new method to find the fuzzy optimal solution of FFLP problems with equality constraints. In this paper, a new method is proposed to find the fuzzy optimal solution of same type of fuzzy linear programming problems. It is easy to apply the proposed method compare to the existing method for solving the FFLP problems with equality constraints occurring in real life situations. To illustrate the proposed method numerical examples are solved and the obtained results are discussed.  相似文献

We present a feasible directions algorithm, based on Lagrangian concepts, for the solution of the nonlinear programming problem with equality and inequality constraints. At each iteration a descent direction is defined; by modifying it, we obtain a feasible descent direction. The line search procedure assures the global convergence of the method and the feasibility of all the iterates. We prove the global convergence of the algorithm and apply it to the solution of some test problems. Although the present version of the algorithm does not include any second-order information, like quasi-Newton methods, these numerical results exhibit a behavior comparable to that of the best methods known at present for nonlinear programming. In this paper, we develop a saddle-point criterion for convex optimization problems with infinite-dimensional equality constraints. The method used in the derivation of this criterion is based on the property of openness of the equality operator. As an application, we develop necessary and sufficient conditions for an optimal control problem under a suitable controllability assumption. Constructing an optimal solution for a production planning problem is used as an illustrative example.The authors would like to thank Professor R. T. Rockafellar for his suggestions which have resulted in an improved version of the paper.  相似文献

This paper discusses optimization problems with nonlinear inequality constraints and presents a new sequential quadratically-constrained quadratic programming (NSQCQP) method of feasible directions for solving such problems. At each iteration. the NSQCQP method solves only one subproblem which consists of a convex quadratic objective function, convex quadratic equality constraints, as well as a perturbation variable and yields a feasible direction of descent (improved direction). The following results on the NSQCQP are obtained: the subproblem solved at each iteration is feasible and solvable: the NSQCQP is globally convergent under the Mangasarian-Fromovitz constraint qualification (MFCQ); the improved direction can avoid the Maratos effect without the assumption of strict complementarity; the NSQCQP is superlinearly and quasiquadratically convergent under some weak assumptions without thestrict complementarity assumption and the linear independence constraint qualification (LICQ). In this article, a constraint shifting homotopy method (CSHM) is proposed for solving non-linear programming with both equality and inequality constraints. A new homotopy is constructed, and existence and global convergence of a homotopy path determined by it are proven. All problems that can be solved by the combined homotopy interior point method (CHIPM) can also be solved by the proposed method. In contrast to the combined homotopy infeasible interior point method (CHIIPM), it needs a weaker regularity condition. And the starting point in the proposed method is not necessarily a feasible point or an interior point, so it is more convenient to be implemented than CHIPM and CHIIPM. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is feasible and effective.  相似文献

The usual approach to Newton's method for mathematical programming problems with equality constraints leads to the solution of linear systems ofn +m equations inn +m unknowns, wheren is the dimension of the space andm is the number of constraints. Moreover, these linear systems are never positive definite. It is our feeling that this approach is somewhat artificial, since in the unconstrained case the linear systems are very often positive definite. With this in mind, we present an alternate Newton-like approach for the constrained problem in which all the linear systems are of order less than or equal ton. Furthermore, when the Hessian of the Lagrangian at the solution is positive definite (a situation frequently occurring), all our systems will be positive definite. Hence, in all cases, our Newton-like method offers greater numerical stability. We demonstrate that the convergence properties of this Newton-like method are superior to those of the standard approach to Newton's method. The operation count for the new method using Gaussian elimination is of the same order as the operation count for the standard method. However, if the Hessian of the Lagrangian at the solution is positive definite and we use Cholesky decomposition, then the order of the operation count for the new method is half that for the standard approach to Newton's method. This theory is generalized to problems with both equality and inequality constraints.  相似文献

A new dual problem for convex generalized fractional programs with no duality gap is presented and it is shown how this dual problem can be efficiently solved using a parametric approach. The resulting algorithm can be seen as “dual” to the Dinkelbach-type algorithm for generalized fractional programs since it approximates the optimal objective value of the dual (primal) problem from below. Convergence results for this algorithm are derived and an easy condition to achieve superlinear convergence is also established. Moreover, under some additional assumptions the algorithm also recovers at the same time an optimal solution of the primal problem. We also consider a variant of this new algorithm, based on scaling the “dual” parametric function. The numerical results, in case of quadratic-linear ratios and linear constraints, show that the performance of the new algorithm and its scaled version is superior to that of the Dinkelbach-type algorithms. From the computational results it also appears that contrary to the primal approach, the “dual” approach is less influenced by scaling. The method of centers is a well-known method for solving nonlinear programming problems having inequality constraints. Pironneau and Polak have recently presented a new version of this method. In the new method, the direction of search is obtained, at each iteration, by solving a convex quadratic programming problem. This direction finding subprocedure is essentially insensitive to the dimension of the space on which the problem is defined. Moreover, the method of Pironneau and Polak is known to converge linearly for finite-dimensional convex programs for which the objective function has a positive-definite Hessian near the solution (and for which the functions involved are twice continuously differentiable). In the present paper, the method and a completely implementable version of it are shown to converge linearly for a very general class of finite-dimensional problems; the class is determined by a second-order sufficiency condition and includes both convex and nonconvex problems. The arguments employed here are based on the indirect sufficiency method of Hestenes. Furthermore, the arguments can be modified to prove linear convergence for a certain class of infinite-dimensional convex problems, thus providing an answer to a conjecture made by Pironneau and Polak.  相似文献

One of the most interesting topics related to sequential quadratic programming algorithms is how to guarantee the consistence of all quadratic programming subproblems. In this decade, much work trying to change the form of constraints to obtain the consistence of the subproblems has been done. The method proposed by De O. Pantoja J.F. A. and coworkers solves the consistent problem of SQP method, and is the best to the authors’ knowledge. However, the scale and complexity of the subproblems in De O. Pantoja’s work will be increased greatly since all equality constraints have to be changed into absolute form. A new sequential quadratic programming type algorithm is presented by means of a special ε-active set scheme and a special penalty function. Subproblems of the new algorithm are all consistent, and the form of constraints of the subproblems is as simple as one of the general SQP type algorithms. It can be proved that the new method keeps global convergence and Local superlinear convergence. Project partly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

Consider a problem of minimizing a separable, strictly convex, monotone and differentiable function on a convex polyhedron generated by a system of m linear inequalities. The problem has a series–parallel structure, with the variables divided serially into n disjoint subsets, whose elements are considered in parallel. This special structure is exploited in two algorithms proposed here for the approximate solution of the problem. The first algorithm solves at most min{mν − n + 1} subproblems; each subproblem has exactly one equality constraint and at most n variables. The second algorithm solves a dynamically generated sequence of subproblems; each subproblem has at most ν − n + 1 equality constraints, where ν is the total number of variables. To solve these subproblems both algorithms use the authors’ Projected Newton Bracketing method for linearly constrained convex minimization, in conjunction with the steepest descent method. We report the results of numerical experiments for both algorithms.  相似文献

A regularized version of Steffensen's method is proposed for the minimization of functions on a set in a Hilbert space defined by inequality and equality constraints. We derive conditions linking the regularization parameters and the penalty coefficient with the numerical method parameter, which ensure strong convergence of the method to the normal solution.Translated from Vychislitel'naya Matematika i Matematicheskoe Obespechenie EVM, pp. 5–9, 1985.  相似文献

The master problem in Benders's partitioning method is an integer program with a very large number of constraints, each of which is usually generated by solving the integer program with the constraints generated earlier. Computational experience shows that the subset B of those constraints of the master problem that are satisfied with equality at the linear programming optimum often play a crucial role in determining the integer optimum, in the sense that only a few of the remaining inequalities are needed. We characterize this subset B of inequalities. If an optimal basic solution to the linear program is nondegenerate in the continuous variables and has p integer-constrained basic variables, then the corresponding set B contains at most 2p inequalities, none of which is implied by the others. We give an efficient procedure for generating an appropriate subset of the inequalities in B, which leads to a considerably improved version of Benders's method.  相似文献

Exact penalty function algorithm with simple updating of the penalty parameter   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13
A new globally convergent algorithm for minimizing an objective function subject to equality and inequality constraints is presented. The algorithm determines a search direction by solving a quadratic programming subproblem, which always has an optimal solution, and uses an exact penalty function to compute the steplength along this direction through an Armijo-type scheme. The special structure of the quadratic subproblem is exploited to construct a new and simple method for updating the penalty parameter. This method may increase or reduce the value of the penalty parameter depending on some easily performed tests. A new method for updating the Hessian of the Lagrangian is presented, and a Q-superlinear rate of convergence is established.This work was supported in part by the British Council and the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico & Tecnologico/CNPq, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.The authors are very grateful to Mr. Lam Yeung for his invaluable assistance in computing the results and to a reviewer for constructive advice.  相似文献

Based on an augmented Lagrangian line search function, a sequential quadratically constrained quadratic programming method is proposed for solving nonlinearly constrained optimization problems. Compared to quadratic programming solved in the traditional SQP methods, a convex quadratically constrained quadratic programming is solved here to obtain a search direction, and the Maratos effect does not occur without any other corrections. The “active set” strategy used in this subproblem can avoid recalculating the unnecessary gradients and (approximate) Hessian matrices of the constraints. Under certain assumptions, the proposed method is proved to be globally, superlinearly, and quadratically convergent. As an extension, general problems with inequality and equality constraints as well as nonmonotone line search are also considered.  相似文献

A family of complementarity problems is defined as extensions of the well-known linear complementarity problem (LCP). These are:
(i)  second linear complementarity problem (SLCP), which is an LCP extended by introducing further equality restrictions and unrestricted variables;
(ii)  minimum linear complementarity problem (MLCP), which is an LCP with additional variables not required to be complementary and with a linear objective function which is to be minimized;
(iii)  second minimum linear complementarity problem (SMLCP), which is an MLCP, but the nonnegative restriction on one of each pair of complementary variables is relaxed so that it is allowed to be unrestricted in value.
A number of well-known mathematical programming problems [namely, quadratic programming (convex, nonconvex, pseudoconvex, nonconvex), linear variational inequalities, bilinear programming, game theory, zero-one integer programming, fixed-charge problem, absolute value programming, variable separable programming] are reformulated as members of this family of four complementarity problems. A brief discussion of the main algorithms for these four problems is presented, together with some computational experience.  相似文献
