We consider theoretically the interplay between Zeeman coupling and exchange-induced swap action in spin-based quantum dot quantum computer models in the presence of inhomogeneous magnetic fields, which are invariably present in real systems. We estimate quantitatively swap errors caused by the inhomogeneous field, establishing that error correction would, in principle, be possible in the presence of nonuniform magnetic fields in realistic structures.  相似文献

We study a four-electron system in a vertically coupled four-layer quantum dot under a magnetic field by the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian matrix. We find that discontinuous ground-state energy transitions are induced by an external magnetic field. We find that dot-dot distance and electron-electron interaction strongly affect the low-lying states of the coupled quantum dots. The inter-dot correlation leads to some sequences of possible disappearances of ground state transitions, which are present for uncoupled dots.  相似文献

Nanostructures of diluted magnetic semiconductors were fabricated to study novel magneto-optical properties that are derived from quantum confined band electrons interacting with magnetic ions. Quantum dots (QDs) of Cd0.97Mn0.03Se were grown by the self-organization on a ZnSe substrate layer. QDs of Zn0.69Cd0.23Mn0.08Se and quantum wires (QWRs) of Cd0.92Mn0.08Se and Zn0.69Cd0.23Mn0.08Se were fabricated by the electron beam lithography. A single quantum well (QW) of ZnTe/Zn0.97Mn0.03Te and double QWs of Cd0.95Mn0.05Te–CdTe were grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Magneto-optical properties and the formation and relaxation dynamics of excitons were investigated by ultrafast time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Excitons in these nanostructures were affected by the low-dimensional confinement effects and the interaction with magnetic ion spins. The exciton luminescence of the Cd0.97Mn0.03Se QDs shows the confined exciton energy due to the dot size of 4–6 nm and also shows marked increase of the exciton lifetime with increasing the magnetic field. The QDs of Zn0.69Cd0.23Mn0.08Se fabricated by the electron beam lithography display narrow exciton PL spectrum due to the uniform shape of the dots. The exciton luminescence from the QWRs of Cd0.92Mn0.08Se and Zn0.69Cd0.23Mn0.08Se shows the influence of the one-dimensional confinement effect for the exciton energy and the luminescence is linearly polarized parallel to the wire direction. The transient PL from the ZnTe/Zn0.97Mn0.03Te QWs displays, by the magnetic field, the level crossing of the exciton spin states of the nonmagnetic and magnetic layers and the spatial spin separation for the excitons. Cd0.95Mn0.05Te–CdTe double QWs show the injection of the spin polarized excitons from the magnetic well to the nonmagnetic QW.  相似文献

We present an Anderson-type model Hamiltonian with exchange coupling between the localized spins and the confined holes in the quantum dots to study the ferromagnetism in diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) quantum dot arrays embedded in semiconductors. The hybridization between the quantum-confined holes in the quantum dots and the itinerant holes in the semiconductor valence band makes possible hole transfer between the DMS quantum dots, which can induce the long range ferromagnetic order of the localized spins. In addition, it makes the carrier spins both in the quantum dots and in the semiconductors polarized. The spontaneous magnetization of the localized spins and the spin polarization of the holes are calculated using both the Weiss mean field approximation and the self-consistent spin wave approximation, which are developed for the present model.Received: 17 Mars 2003, Published online: 30 January 2004PACS: 75.75. + a Magnetic properties of nanostructures - 75.30.Ds Spin waves - 75.50.Dd Nonmetallic ferromagnetic materials - 75.50.Pp Magnetic semiconductors  相似文献

By embedding a layer of self-assembled quantum dots into a field-effect structure, we are able to control the exciton charge in a single dot. We present the results of photoluminescence experiments as a function of both charge and magnetic field. The results demonstrate a hierarchy of energy scales determined by quantization, the direct Coulomb interaction, the electron–electron exchange interaction, and the electron–hole exchange interaction. For excitons up to the triply charged exciton, the behavior can be understood from a model assuming discrete levels within the quantum dot. For the triply charged exciton, this is no longer the case. In a magnetic field, we discover a coherent interaction with the continuum states, the Landau levels associated with the wetting layer.  相似文献

One of the remarkable properties of the II–VI diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) quantum dot (QD) is the giant Zeeman splitting of the carrier states under application of a magnetic field. This splitting reveals strong exchange interaction between the magnetic ion moment and electronic spins in the QD. A theoretical study of the electron spectrum and of its relaxation to the ground state via the emission of a longitudinal optical (LO) phonon, in a CdSe/ZnMnSe self-assembled quantum dot, is proposed in this work. Numerical calculations showed that the strength of this interaction increases as a function of the magnetic field to become more than 30 meV and allows some level crossings. We have also shown that the electron is more localized in this DMS QD and its relaxation to the ground state via the emission of one LO phonon is allowed.  相似文献

An implementation of a quantum computer based on space states in double quantum dots is discussed. There is no charge transfer in qubits during a calculation, therefore, uncontrolled entanglement between qubits due to long-range Coulomb interaction is suppressed. Encoding and processing of quantum information is merely performed on symmetric and antisymmetric states of the electron in double quantum dots. Other plausible sources of decoherence caused by interaction with phonons and gates could be substantially suppressed in the structure as well. We also demonstrate how all necessary quantum logic operations, initialization, writing, and read-out could be carried out in the computer.  相似文献

Experiments on semiconductor quantum dot systems have demonstrated the coupling between electron spins in quantum dots and spins localized in the neighboring area of the dots. Here we show that in a magnetic field the electrical current flowing through a single quantum dot tunnel-coupled to a spin displays a dip at the singlet–triplet anticrossing point which appears due to the spin–orbit interaction. We specify the requirements for which the current dip is formed and examine the properties of the dip for various system parameters, such as energy detuning, spin–orbit interaction strength, and coupling to leads. We suggest a parameter range in which the dip could be probed.  相似文献

Using an equation-of-motion technique,we theoretically study the Kondo-Fano effect in the T-shaped double quantum dots coupled to two ferromagnetic leads by the Anderson Hamiltonian. We calculate the density of states in this system by solving Green function. Our results reveal that the density of states show some noticeable characteristics not only depending upon the interdot coupling t ab,the energy level ε d1 of the side coupled quantum dot QD b,and the relative angle θ of magnetic moment M,but also the asymmetry parameter α in ferromagnetic leads and so on.All these parameters greatly influence the density of states of the central quantum dot QD a.This system is a possible candidate for spin valve transistors and may have potential applications in the spintronics.  相似文献

The supercurrent through a double Aharonov–Bohm interferometer formed by parallel-coupled four quantum dots is investigated theoretically. The possibility of controlling the supercurrent of the system is explored by tuning the interdot coupling, dot energy levels, and magnetic flux treading the ring connecting dots and leads. Whether the supercurrent sign can be changed depends not only on the magnetic flux but also on the quantum dot energy levels. By tuning the quantum dot energy levels, the behavior of the supercurrent shows swap effects, which might be used to design a qubit. It is also found that the oscillation period of the supercurrent with respect to the magnetic flux depends on the ratio of the two parts fluxes.  相似文献

Self-assembled Cd(Mn)Se/Zn(Mn)Se quantum dots have been investigated by means of spatially and time-resolved magneto-optical spectroscopy. In such quasi zero-dimensional diluted magnetic semiconductors, the exchange interaction couples the spins of optically generated charge carriers with localized magnetic ion spins. We demonstrate that this can be used on the one hand to monitor nanoscale magnetization with a resolution of <100 μB by a purely optical technique and on the other hand to optically manipulate the magnetization in a semiconductor quantum dot.  相似文献

We make use of spin selection rules to investigate the electron spin system of a carbon nanotube double quantum dot. Measurements of the electron transport as a function of the magnetic field and energy detuning between the quantum dots reveal an intricate pattern of the spin state evolution. We demonstrate that the complete set of measurements can be understood by taking into account the interplay between spin-orbit interaction and a single impurity spin coupled to the double dot. The detection and tunability of this coupling are important for quantum manipulation in carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

A double quantum dot in the few-electron regime is achieved using local gating in an InSb nanowire. The spectrum of two-electron eigenstates is investigated using electric dipole spin resonance. Singlet-triplet level repulsion caused by spin-orbit interaction is observed. The size and the anisotropy of singlet-triplet repulsion are used to determine the magnitude and the orientation of the spin-orbit effective field in an InSb nanowire double dot. The obtained results are confirmed using spin blockade leakage current anisotropy and transport spectroscopy of individual quantum dots.  相似文献

We study level mixing in the single-particle energy spectrum of one of the constituent quantum dots in a vertical double quantum dot by performing magneto-resonant-tunneling spectroscopy. The device used in this study differs from previous vertical double quantum dot devices in that the single side gate is now split into four separate gates. Because of the presence of natural perturbations caused by anharmonicity and anisotropy, applying different combinations of voltages to these gates allows us to alter the effective potential landscape of the two dots and hence influence the level mixing. We present here preliminary results from one three level crossing and one four level crossing high up in the energy spectrum of one of the probed quantum dots, and demonstrate that we are able to change significantly the energy dispersions with magnetic field in the vicinity of the crossing regions.  相似文献

This article reviews the current state of research involving semiconductor quantum dots, provides a brief review of the theory behind their unique properties, and an introduction explaining the importance of quantum dot research. The characteristic shifting of the band gap energy with quantum dot size, as predicted from the density of states for low-dimensional structures, allows experimental measurements to determine the extent to which quantum confinement effects play a role in the resulting properties. A few of the current techniques used to measure the presence and physical characteristics of quantum dots and their energy levels is reviewed, including transmission electron microscopy, optical transmission, and Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Finally, some of the more exciting applications for quantum dots currently being researched for use in the field of optoelectronics are reviewed, including quantum dot infrared photodetectors, quantum dot lasers, and quantum dot solar cells. Comments are made on the current progress and the future prospects of quantum dot research and device applications.  相似文献

The energy spectra of low-lying states of an exciton in a single and a vertically coupled quantum dots arestudied under the influence of a perpendicularly applied magnetic field. Calculations are made by using the method ofnumerical diagonalization of the Hamiltonian within the effective-mass approximation. We also calculated the bindingenergy of the ground and the excited states of an exciton in a single quantum dot and that in a vertically coupledquantum dot as a function of the dot radius for different values of the distance and the magnetic field strength.  相似文献

Intersublevel transitions in semiconductor quantum dots are transitions of a charge carrier between quantum dot confined states. In InAs/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots, optically active intersublevel transitions occur in the mid-infrared spectral range. These transitions can provide a new insight on the physics of semiconductor quantum dots and offer new opportunities to develop mid-infrared devices. A key feature characterizing intersublevel transitions is the coupling of the confined carriers to phonons. We show that the effect of the strong coupling regime for the electron–optical phonon interaction and the formation of mixed electron–phonon quasi-particles called polarons drastically affect and control the dynamical properties of quantum dots. The engineering of quantum dot relaxation rates through phonon coupling opens the route to the realization of new devices like mid-infrared polaron lasers. We finally show that the measurement of intersublevel absorption is not limited to quantum dot ensembles and that the intersublevel ultrasmall absorption of a single quantum dot can be measured with a nanometer scale resolution by using phonon emission as a signature of the absorption.
