We establish the following new correlation inequalities for the truncated twopoint function of an Ising ferromagnet in a positive external field: j ; l T j ; k T k ; l T , and j ; l T k K j ; k T k l , whereK is any set of sites which separatesj froml. The inequalities are also valid for the pure phases with zero magnetic field at all temperatures. Above the critical temperature they reduce to known inequalities of Griffiths and Simon, respectively.NSERC Postgraduate Fellow, 1978–1981. The slow passage through a steady bifurcation: Delay and memory effects   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We consider the following problem as a model for the slow passage through a steady bifurcation: dy/dt = (t) y – y3 +, where is a slowly increasing function oft given by= i + t ( i,<0). Both and are small parameters. This problem is motivated by laser experiments as well as theoretical studies of laser problems. In addition, this equation is a typical amplitude equation for imperfect steady bifurcations with cubic nonlinearities. When=0, we have found that=0 is not the point where the bifurcation transition is observed. This transition appears at a value = j > 0. We call j the delay of the bifurcation transition. We study this delay as a function of i, the initial position of, and, the imperfection parameter. To this end, we propose an asymptotic study of this equation as 0, small but fixed. Our main objective is to describe this delay in terms of the relative magnitude of and. Since time-dependent imperfections are always present in experiments, we analyze in the second part of the paper the effect of a small-amplitude but time-periodic imperfection given by (t) = cos(t).  相似文献

The change in frequency of quartz piezoelectric resonators in a d-c electric polarizing field cannot be explained merely by a change in the dimensions of the resonator due to the polarizing field caused by the inverse piezoelectric effect and electrostriction. We are forced to admit that the elastic constants also change in a polarizing field. A phenomenological interpretation of the influence of a d-c electric polarizing field on the frequency of quartz resonators is proposed here, based on newly introduced quantities characterizing such a change. In conclusion it is shown in what way the quantities, on which the phenomenological theory is based, can be determined experimentally.

LetH l be the Hamiltonian in aP()2 theory with sharp space cutoff in the interval (–l/2,l/2). LetE l =inf(H l ), (l)=–E l /l, and let l be the vacuum forH l . discuss properties of (l) and l . In particular, asl, there are finite constants <0 and such that (l), ((l)–)l, and hence (l)=+/l+o(l –1). Moreover exp(–c 1 l) l 1exp(–c 2 l) forc 1,c 2 positive constants, where l 1 is theL 1(Q, d0) norm of 1 with respect to the Fock vacuum measure. The object of the present paper is to study the MHD effects on the laminar flow of a viscous, incompressible and conducting fluid in an annulus with arbitrary time-varying pressure gradient and arbitrary initial velocity in presence of a radial magnetic field. Using finite Hankel transform, solutions for both the unsteady and steady flows under different prescribed pressure gradients have been found out.Notation H a constant characterising the intensity of the magnetic field - p hydrostatic pressure - e magnetic permeability - coefficient of viscosity - kinematic coefficient of voscosity - conductivity of the medium - density - a radius of the inner cylinder - b radius of the outer cylinder - parameter - s positive root - J (sr) Bessel's function of first kind of ordergl - Y (sr) Bessel's function of second kind of order  相似文献

A method is suggested for the derivation of finite-size corrections in the thermodynamic functions of systems with pair interaction potential decaying at large distancesr asr d , whered is the space dimensionality and>0. It allows for a unified treatment of short-range (=2) and long-range (<2) interaction. The asymptotic analysis is illustrated by the mean spherical model of general geometryL d–d× d subject to periodic boundary conditions. The Fisher-Privman equation of state is generalized to arbitrary real values ofd, 0d. It is shown that the-expansion may be used to study the breakdown of standard finite-size scaling at the borderline dimensionalities.  相似文献

The development of bounds on the complex effective conductivity tensor * (that relates the average current to the average electric field in a multicomponent composite) has been hindered by lack of a suitable continued-fraction representation for *. Here a new field equation recursion method is developed which gives an expression for * as a continued fraction of a novel form incorporating as coefficients the component conductivities and a set of fundamental geometric parameters reflecting the composite geometry. A hierarchy of field equations is set up such that the solutions of the (j+1)th-order equation generate the solutions of thejth-order equation. Consequently the effective tensor (j) associated with thejth-order field equation is expressible as a fractional linear matrix transformation of (j+1). These transformations combine to form the continued fraction expansion for *=(0) which is exploited in the following paper, Part II, to obtain bounds: crude bounds on (j), forj1, give narrow bounds on *. The continued fraction is a generalization to multivariate functions of the continued fraction expansion of single variable Stieltjes functions that proved important in the development of the theory of Páde approximants, asymptotic analysis, and the theory of orthogonal polynomials in the last century. The results extend to other transport problems, including conduction in polycrystalline media, the viscoelasticity of composites, and the response of multicomponent, multiterminal linear electrical networks.  相似文献

ForA any subset of () (the bounded operators on a Hilbert space) containing the unit, and and restrictions of states on () toA, ent A (|)—the entropy of relative to given the information inA—is defined and given an axiomatic characterisation. It is compared with ent A A (|)—the relative entropy introduced by Umegaki and generalised by various authors—which is defined only forA an algebra. It is proved that ent and ent S agree on pairs of normal states on an injective von Neumann algebra. It is also proved that ent always has all the most important properties known for ent S : monotonicity, concavity,w* upper semicontinuity, etc.  相似文献

The sticking process dt + n, which constitutes the most severe limit to the number of fusions which a muon can catalyze, is reviewed. Many attempts were made to determine by calculations and measurements the probability for initial sticking s 0 (immediately after dt fusion) and for final sticking s (after the came to rest). Previous results based on neutron disappearance rates and on the observation of -X-rays were controversial and also in some disagreement with theory. New data are reported from PSI on direct observation of final sticking, using a setup with the St. Petersburg ionization chamber. These data mark a significant improvement in reliability and may clarify questions concerning previous discrepancies. The new results is s(0.56±0.04)%, lower than the theory prediction s=(0.65±0.03)%, at medium density.  相似文献

The contribution of nonperturbative corrections, proportional to the quark and gluon vacuum condensates, to the ratio R=L/T, where L and T are the cross sections for longitudinal and transversal photon scattering by nucleons, is calculated. It is shown that these condensate corrections amount to 30% in the range 0.1相似文献

We show that ifb andb are two boundary conditions (b.c.) for general spin systems on d such that the difference in the energies of a spin configuration in d is uniformly bounded, |H ,b ()–H ,b()|C < , then any infinite-volume Gibbs states and obtained with these b.c. have the same measure-zero sets. This implies that the decompositions of and into extremal Gibbs states are equivalent (mutually absolutely continuous). In particular, if is extremal,=. Application of this observation yields in an easy way (among other things) (a) the uniqueness of the Gibbs states for one-dimensional systems with forces that are not too long-range; (b) the fact that various b.c. that are natural candidates for producing non-translation-invariant Gibbs states cannot lead to such an extremal Gibbs state in two dimensions.Supported in part by NSF Grant PHY 78–15920 and by the Swiss National Foundation For Scientific Research.  相似文献

A general formulation is given of Simon's Ising model inequality: whereB is any set of spins separating from . We show that b can be replaced by b A whereA is the spin system insideB containing . An advantage of this is that a finite algorithm can be given to compute the transition temperature to any desired accuracy. The analogous inequality for plane rotors is shown to hold if a certain conjecture can be proved. This conjecture is indeed verified in the simplest case, and leads to an upper bound on the critical temperature. (The conjecture has been proved in general by Rivasseau. The paper gives the experimental results of the team-work study of coloured pure and Ca doped NaCl and KC1 crystals. The mechanism of the formation ofR centres by coagulation ofF centres and of the formation ofZ centres fromF centres, cation vacancies and Ca ions is discussed. An alternative model forZ 3 centres is proposed. The possible connections between physical and chemical behaviour are indicated.

The ring (Frobenius algebra) of local observables for topological -models on 1 with values in the grassmannianG(s, n) is known to be the same as the quotient of the homology ring of the target space by the (inhomogeneous) ideal generated by the so-called quantum correction. While the need for a quantum correction comes from algebraic motivations in field theory, the aim of this paper is to understand its geometric meaning. The simple examples of 1 n models tell us that the quantum correction comes by restriction on the boundary of the moduli spaces which allows to compute intersections on moduli spaces of lower degrees. We will check this point of view for the case of 1 G(s,n) models, yielding a proof of the algebraic result from physics in terms of the geometry of the -model itself.Work partially supported by National Project 40% Probabilistic and geometrical methods in Mathematical Physics and by CNR-Gruppo Nazionale di Fisica Matematica.  相似文献

Using wave functions determined from ground-state local-density calculations, we have calculated the wave-dispersed free response of the optical nonlinear polarizability (3)(–3;,,), for the C60 molecule and (3)(–3;,,) i.e. Third-Harmonic Generation (THG) for films using a sum-over-states approach. The influence of screening was determined by applying an external static electric field in separate selfconsistent calculations to evaluate induced dipole moments which was used to determine the static linear and nonlinear polarizabilities. The polarizabilities calculated in the static limit were used to determine an effective screening parameter which was, in turn, used together with an RPA approach to calculate screened wave-dispersed, third-order nonlinear optical properties such as (3)(–3;,,) and (3)(–3;,,). Comparing evaluated polarizabilities with experimental values we found that the non-resonant free polarizability compares well in absolute magnitude with experimental results. Inclusion of screening results in a polarizability about two orders of magnitude below the experimental values.Paper presented at the 129th WE-Heraeus-Seminar on Surface Studies by Nonlinear Laser Spectroscopies, Kassel, Germany, May 30 to June 1, 1994  相似文献

We present upper bounds on the critical temperature of one-dimensional Ising models with long-range,l/n interactions, where 1<2. In particular for the often studied case of =2 we have an upper bound onT c which is less than theT c found by a number of approximation techniques. Also for the case where is small, such as =1.1, we obtain rigorous bounds which are extremely close, within 1.0%, to those found by approximation methods.  相似文献
